- Join me on my first fishing venture of 2024 on the Beautiful River Don near Sheffield. The upper reaches of the Don are totally amazing & beautiful & to fish here with this backdrop is very special....
The fishing didn't disappoint with loads of Grayling falling to worms & a few out of season Brownies also....It was a session that will live long in the memory. Hope you guys enjoy & thanks for tuning in again , all the best YRR.

That second peg is one that always produces. I'm pretty certain that it's a spawning griund for the brownies up there too from the amount of parr that I've seen on there. Great stuff.
Cheers man, yeah I loved that 2nd peg with the diagonal crease n deep gully on the far bank... I did catch 4 really small Grayling from there... so you might be right... thanks for watching mate, all the best in your own fishing 🎣

A stunning selection of fish. I had a go for trout last year down there. Drizzled all session ended up with a dunking and never saw a fish.

Nice one mate. I fished that area a couple of weeks ago and noticed a lot of oil/petrol type pollution in the margins of the second swim you fished here. Hope it was gone when you were there.
Hi mate, yeah now you mention it there was a small slick at the side of that swim... hope it's gone now...is a lovely swim that.... how did u get on pal, plenty of Grayling?

Yeah plenty of grayling with four over a pound. No brownies on this last occasion but usually find a few. It’s a lovely stretch of river, been going for a few years now.
Excellent bit of fishing on a very bonny bit of river! Centrepin is the only way, man!!
With experience you start to recognise trout water from grayling water, less obvious in summer, but in winter I tend to avoid the rocky, turbulent pockets that hold trout and look for long, smooth, pacey glides as they usually have a resident shoal of grayling at some point. You did very well anyway, though!
One thing I'd mention, I hope I'm not being negative, but it made me slightly uncomfortable to see those fish out of the water for lengthy periods. Both trout and grayling don't recover well after more than 10 seconds in the air, according to a few different studies. Probably less crucial in cold water??

Hi mate, yeah can't beat Centrepin trotting can you 😊, was by far the best results I've had on this River.... I appreciate the info & advice regarding the wellbeing of the fish , will make sure they are returned much more speedy in the future, makes sense as they need high oxygen water don't they.... I enjoyed your last video in the Y Dales, looked a lovely spot... I must venture up there soon mate. All the best pal 👍🎣
Thanks man! I felt guilty when watching a fly fishing guide on a utube video caught an out of season grayling while fishing for trout, a big one, but he wouldn't hold it for the camera, just slipped it straight back after 2 seconds unhooking it, so we only saw a glimpse of his chest cam footage of it.
I was impressed by his respect for the fish and found it inspiring! On the other hand the Americans appear to fish for trout all winter ????

Cheers man, yeah it was a memorable day that.... yeah I rate these Dynamite vests, loads of pockets for bait n tackle n mobile etc... very handy when walking good distances... yeah the snow melt has put the Rivers well up here in Yorkshire, just dropping a little now... hope you get out soon n bag a few good fish mate , all the best 👍🎣
