    Ralph Breaks the Internet is a stunning, fun, quirky journey featuring some extremely compelling and unique lessons on friendship. Its a film I enjoy even more as I embrace its story and view it in tantum with the original Wreck It Ralph, but even though I admire the brilliant way they continued the tale of Ralph and Vanellope, there is one element that, much like Sour Bill, left me feeling a little sour myself: that Vanellope left Sugar Rush for Slaughter Race while the idea of going Turbo existed.

      In a broader sense, Vanellope was being selfish. Her actions caused her game to be unplugged. Her actions are what lead Ralph to earn the money, but be labeled as a joke in most of the comments. Her actions are what lead Ralph to fear he would (again) be left alone while Vanellope ran away; its only thanks to Disney's ex machina that they can still chat together. And, it's her actions that lead to her not wanting to go home.
      Being who you want to be is one thing, but Vanellope seems like a spoiled child in this. She gets tired of her own game, even though all the other characters have been okay with the game for much longer. She has actual programming stuck inside the game, and if something where to ever go wrong again, she isn't there to fix it.
      Turbo was being evil in wanting to hog attention, but he got what he deserved.
      Ralph was wrong in wanting to be something he wasn't made to be, but learned he can play his part while being a metaphorical hero to Vanellope.
      Vanellope on the other hand is wrong because after all the effort she put Ralph through, not herself even though she caused the mess, she ditches him and everyone else to race somewhere else? Even if she isn't crashing the game, she is kinda running away from her problems.

      That isn`t honing on the details, that's up front in the movie.
      And your point about the actual Moral, doesn't play too well either, what was the Moral of the Story for Her? That deep down she wanted to play an online game with no boundaries? When she gets bored, and she will, she`ll just move onto the next online game and the Next. And if she does the same in the movie, at the cost of her friends.

      I think Turbo chose to replace Venelope specifically because she's the princess and he wanted to be the king instead of just a regular racer and that power afforded him the right to do things that effectively barred Venelope from racing, whereas if Venelope had retained her position of Princess she probably wouldn't have been as against the glitched character racing. I also think the reason Venelope was the one that could reboot her game is because if she crossed the finish line the game would try to log that to her character information in some way, possibly flagging her character as one of the random racers chosen, but this would cause an error because she's currently a glitch. In order to resolve this error the system would be forced to reboot from its factory default and restore everyone's memories. But in that case the racer that could reboot the game didn't have to be Venelope, it could have been any of the racers as long as they were the one that Turbo had chosen to displace. The door to the code was also in Venelope's castle, so replacing her granted Turbo permanent access to it.

      Well yeah but both of them got bored in a way. vanellope was being on the top and the same courses and turbo started getting bored because no one wanted to play his game. When I look at it like that, it's hard to feel bad for her. Also, she was considered the best character of the game by those girls. If Vanellope isn't there, players might not play. I know they got along without her before but they didn't know about her because it was a dif generation

    Remember, the term “going turbo” was developed by characters that didn’t know the full story of Turbo. It just meant abandoning your game. Venelope abandoned her game, therefore she went Turbo. Ralph didn’t abandon his game, or even intend to. He was always going to come back after he got his medal.

  • @tny1757
    @tny1757 Před 5 lety +313

    Short answer is... Yes.
    She abandoned her game. Regardless of intent, the first film made it clear that game jumping of any kind is bad aside from after hours. So to justify one case yet vilify all others is hypocritical.
    Especially when the game is now permanently stuck with 15 racers as opposed to the 16 it always had with King Candy or Vanellope taking the 16th spot. It's a glitch that will either
    A. Deter Players away from a slowly dying game.
    Or
    B. Put the Game Out of Order and eventually unplugged.

    @LovelyLivelyV Před 5 lety +2101

    Vanellope DEFINITELY went “bad” Turbo. She not only flat-out ABANDONS her game, but she goes against her role as the leader of Sugar Rush. I get that she wants more out of life, but she doesn’t truly consider what effects it would have on her game. Sure, there’s 15 other racers, but they’re still her responsibility. As insignificant as the “princess” part of her code may seem at first, Vanellope chose to stay their leader albeit changing her title, and suddenly moving to Slaughter Race makes her seem like a horrible president. She didn’t even appoint a new ruler in her absence!
    Overall, Vanellope’s decision was selfish because she didn’t consider the possible consequences Sugar Rush could have (and should have) suffered. Remember when Mr. Litwak said the game made less than $200 a year? That’s a dangerously low amount of money! With Vanellope being the star racer, there was an extreme risk that the players could have eventually stopped coming back and led to the game being unplugged for good. That kind of risk isn’t worth taking.
    Vanellope claiming Slaughter Race feels like home is a weak argument. The game might be chaotic for now, but even chaos has a formula. What happens when it becomes routine and Vanellope memorizes every single outcome that could happen? Give her another six years and she’ll be bored again, moving to the next cheap thrill that catches her eye. To make things worse, she spent only a few minutes there, which isn’t enough to establish a meaningful connection. It’s like when a child goes to a theme park like Disneyland for the first time; they feel like it’s home, but that doesn’t mean they can move there the next day.
    The worst part is that Vanellope didn’t need to take drastic measures to cure her Jack Skellington Syndrome. Ralph was able to build a track for Vanellope, and there’s no reason why it couldn’t have solved Vanellope’s problem. You could make the argument that Ralph’s shortcut was what broke the steering wheel, but in actuality the shortcut had nothing to do with that; wheel broke because Vanellope fought against the player for control. Ralph and Felix could have built and coded so many different tracks into Sugar Rush; with a grand total of 12-16 tracks, Vanellope would have less to be bored about. AND with the WiFi installed, she could easily visit Slaughter Race every day.
    Vanellope shouldn’t be praised for breaking the sacred rule of the arcade. In fact, no one should. Some NPCs leaving might sound harmless at first, but imagine if every single NPC in a video game suddenly disappeared. That’d be disastrous! If the “main” components of the game have to settle for sticking with the program, then so should everyone else. “Good” Turbo shouldn’t even be a thing because it goes against what Ralph learned in the first movie: don’t mess with the program, accept your role and accept your game.
    Also, since I’ve seen this comparison happen a lot, don’t compare Vanellope’s choice to a real-life scenario of a person moving away for college because our reality is not constrained by the arcade’s rules.

      MKartracingqueen i completely agree with you. Vanellope’s decision to leave her game had so many problems with it. There is something called categorical law, which is to act only in a way that everyone can act. If everyone can’t do it, then we probably shouldn’t do it. What I’m getting at is Vanellope should not be an exception for leaving her game because if everyone left their games their games would shut down. It’s not fair to the other racers that she can leave cause “there 15 other racers”. Vanellope’s decision was selfish as she only thought how she felt and dismissed anyone’s else’s thoughts or feelings.

    She did go Turbo; regardless of whether it was for a good or bad reason, the reality is that it goes against the teachings of the first film. Even though Ralph got his happy ending, the reality was that he learned how badly his game relied on him and he made peace with that. It might not be that great, but it was his role to play and nobody could play it better than him.
    Vanellope's decision counteracts that lesson and, instead of fortifying it, focuses more on Ralph's choice to let her go. Yes, Ralph is the main character of the movies, but a protagonist's growth should never bring previous lessons into question this much.

    Did anyone else think the ending was weird/unsatisfactory? I just thought that her leaving her game would be selfish and she was just blind to what would come from her actions because of her love for Slaughter Race. She's an arcade character going to an internet game. Wouldn't that be weird for not only the characters in the arcade, but for the company behind Slaughter Race and the players of Sugar Rush and Slaughter Race?
    Like you mentioned, the characters in Sugar Rush would be without a ruler. Vanellope just left all responsibilities to run off to a game she liked. Ralph doesn't have anyone to spend actual physical time with. Sure, he has that weird communication device to talk to Vanellope, but that's so much different than actually having someone physically with you. Imagine it like a long distance relationship. You both have a relationship with one another, but you can never have the same type of relationship as a close-distance couple. I think that Sugar Rush would be in disarray and Ralph would be pretty damn lonely.
    For the company behind Slaughter Race, wouldn't it be weird for a random character to just appear in their game without any programming on their part? This AI, with their own car and special abilities just appearing in your game and messing with the players. I'd think they'd take action. For example, deleting whatever code is keeping Vanellope in the game/safe in the game? Brings more trouble. For the players, there's now a random character with teleportation powers in a seemingly realistic game. This would mess with the gameplay, and I'm sure some players would consider her glitch unfair and report it to the company. This makes it more likely for the company to delete her character file(s). It's fairly obvious for the Sugar Rush players. This fan-favorite character suddenly disappears, and now they're stuck with the same 15 racers as before. The game would most likely lose all business it had previously had (assuming Sugar Rush truly wasn't getting much players) and Mr. Litwak would find it better for the arcade if Sugar Rush be replaced anyways.
    Overall, it just seemed out of place for Disney, but that's just me. Thoughts?

      You hit the right buttons here. Her being in an always online MMO game will hurt her and the game itself. Also Sugar Rush will be left with no ruler to guard the data server which is very dangerous, we also know the other racer isn't really "qualified" to replace her because they're even more childish than Vanellope here. So yeah she doomed both of them games.

    I watched this movie in the cinema with a friend for her birthday and never got to see the movie before it, but I had really mixed feelings about this one. The ending just felt really sad to me. Vanellope felt really selfish though I could understand where she was coming from. She should be allowed to do her own thing if that makes her happy. But she didn't stop to think about the consequences. Instead she went behind her best friend's back and refused to be honest with him. When he finds out on his own and gets upset, triggering his biggest insecurity, which she seems very aware of, she gets upset with him. It rubbed me the wrong way how Ralph was made the complete bad guy while he worked his hardest to make her happy and earn all the money to fix her game and she just seemed to... not appreciate it that much? I might have not completely experienced it right, but just... I'm by far not saying she owes him, because friendship isn't for sale, but it felt a bit like a one way street to me.
    And yeah, I remember her saying nearing the end she would go back to her own game with Ralph, but it didn't change how off it felt.
    That said, Ralph was very much in the wrong with trying to ruin the game she had been so attached to just to have her back. Obsessing so much over someone is by far not healthy.

      Well it's pronounced Vanelope, but other than that I see what you mean, but you gotta remember the first movie, Ralph lived all his life for 30 years being under appreciated and casted aside, he felt he wanted something more, he wanted to fill the void in him, Vanelope on the other hand was a victim of Turbo's actions, leaving her as an outcast and discriminated, in other words, Vanelope filled the void that Ralph had, Ralph viewed her more than just a friend, he viewed as someone worth fighting for and dying for, which is why he goes out of his way to get the wheel, Vanelope felt the same way Ralph did, but instead she wanted the thrills of having that, but she should've learned from the last movie, of course I get it, it was like 6 years ago, but Felix or Ralph should've explained what going Turbo means and what effect it could have on other games, sometimes good intentions don't always leave with the best choices, it could lead into a path that could lead to chaos and something far worse than you could imagine

      Isaiah Lozano whoops, edited the name quickly. I know it was wrong but I couldn't change it while typing on my tablet without it deleting everything, which was why I avoided her name as much as possible 😂
      I indeed didn't watch the first movie, so maybe I would be a bit more sympathetic towards her if I did. They both were clearly in the wrong here, but it felt like Ralph was getting most of the blame and anger, which probably was because his response actions had the most consequences. Most anger in general from Vanellope. It was a very clear case of lack of communication. I could understand her frustration, but it caused her to hurt her best friend who gave his all (and probably too much from himself) to her.
      The movie covers a wide area of grey like that in general. No character is completely in the right nor in the wrong.
      What I do wonder though... Slaughter Race is an online game. It isn't contained to just one copy of the game. The game developers would probably sooner or later find out about this new character that would be copyright infringement... wouldn't they try and delete her from the game to quickly fix the issue? Will she be bound to be eventually deleted? Or would they get away with it because the game has been out of business for some time?

      And for zootopia ALL predators killed all prey. If a fox sees a rabbit the rabbit dies if it can't run fast enough. If a black person sees a white person that white person isnt necessarily in danger. The animals still call each other predator/prey even though they haven't played those roles in thousands of years. Predatory animals still have fangs and claws. They're still genetically designed to "murder" prey animals. Plus there are lots of different animal species. Ralph, Felix, and Calhoun sees this problem and tries to warn Vanellope about this. But Vanellope just can't get to get over the fun she had in Slaughter Race. But in the game, she's also not safe. Because Vanellope can still glitch, her glitch would sometimes causes a bug that resulted in she's in risk of patched and deleted from the game code. Along with Shank, Ralph and his other friends are trying to persuade Vanellope to return to her own game. But Vanellope's selfish behavior insists she wants to be in Slaughter Race. With desperation, Ralph asks her "Vanellope.... are you going Turbo?" Those words hit hard for Vanellope, because she realizes that she's what Turbo is. I didn’t really like Vanellope in this movie. I mean when you compare Vanellopes persona in this movie to the 1st movie she’s a completely different person!
    Now here’s why I dislike Vanellope in the 2nd movie. Vanellope does a complete 360 on her personality and becomes selfish, not caring what the effects it will have on others as long as she gets what she wants. Now here’s what really gets me.... VANELLOPE IS THE FRICKEN QUEEN OF HER GAME (or president) SHE IS 100% NEEDED FOR HER GAME. I’m sure that as she took control of sugar rush she was given normal queen duties of maintaining her game and helping/caring for her people etc. which means that she’s now a very important person in her game. NOT TO MENTION THAT THERES A HUGE FRICKEN PHOTO OF HER CHARACTER ON THE SIDE OF THE MACHINE!!!!! How can U miss that!? Which means that if Vanellope left (which she did) and some human decided to play sugar rush and specifically had the character Vanellope in mind. When they start up the game there’ll notice that her slot is missing. Which shouldn’t happen since she’s obviously a part of the game. WHICH CANNOT BE DENIED DUE TO HER PHOTO BEING ON THE SIDE OF THE FUCKING MACHINE. Meaning that something must be wrong with the game. Which could lead to the game being unplugged.
    I understand that people have the right to be happy! But when your a QUEEN! You kinda have a responsibility to your people, your people and game should come first. NOT YOU!!! How could Vanellope just take this huge risk of messing up her game for the sake of her selfish happiness. What happened to her love for her game. Vanellope worked to hard to get to where she is. She accomplished every task given to her in order to become an official sugar rush racer. This has been her dream .

If she were any other character it wouldn't be as controversial, but her not appearing in her own game would be like playing Pokemon Let's Go without either Eevee or Pikachu, and if my memory serves her crossing the finishing line was a plot point in the first movie.
    Also, there's nothing really stopping her from going back and forth between games when the arcade is closed, much like how she and all the other characters already did, so her staying in Slaughter Race indefinitely made no sense. In short, she totally went Turbo.

    I think the destructive nature of the act plays a huge difference. “Turbo” got its moniker for a day and age where code was pretty fragile, and any one missing piece or added piece without decent consideration could easily render it unplayable, so it makes sense that it was summed up to “leave your game = going Turbo.”
    Modern games are built to handle that. Heck, there are even games that are built with defaults and error codes so that if something is missing or something that isn’t there shouldn’t be, _____ happens. It’s the reason why if you manage to hack Aerith into the game after she dies in FFVII, she does have some basic dialogue in cutscenes because it was included as a failsafe to prevent the game from crashing if she ever showed up in those scenes. Sugar Rush and the other racing game are built more fluidly like that.
    Additionally, I think playing by the rules of the land also plays a big role. Turbo deliberately jeapordized the other game, and only managed to “pass” in Sugar Rush for so long because he started to play by their rules (sort of). Part of the problem with Ralph’s disappearance was not just the impact on his game, but also the fact that he caused quite a bit of chaos in Hero’s Duty and nearly destroyed Sugar Rush. Vanellope didn’t have too hard of a time because the other racing game was pretty chaotic, but she was playing by the world’s established rules, and was actively concerned when she thought she crashed it. I think it overall works if the old game can run fluidly without the character, and the new game can run fluidly with the character, if that makes much sense.

      If you want to take that level of realism then i can say this to you. Doing the turbo wasn't a question of can or cannot. It was a question of will or will not. First of all you have to understand what type of game slaughter race is and what type of game Sugar Rush is. As i understand that you're a gamer i take it you also understand the implication of a character that have an innate glitching power now served as an npc that will be the player's antagonist in a highly competitive online game. Yes, as we all know Slaughter Race is GTA-like online competitive game with heists like mechanic and shank and the other were the "raid boss" or some sort of antagonist npc. Now you're telling me adding another npc that not only is on par or even better at driving than shank is plus a glitching ability to the list of enemy npc WILL NOT threw the balance of the game off. Of course it will, vaneloppe's existence there is harmful to the game especially the competitive aspect of the game and the online environment. The balance will be broken and so does the game economy. She will have herself got patched out by player's demand because she simply cannot be nerfed (her glitchyness is part of her character trait) and player will absolutely see her glitching as a mistake. In Sugar Rush such problem didn't prevalent because she's there as an AVATAR not as an NPC that goes against the player.
      She was going turbo, in all sense. She IS bringing harm to both games.

      @Aivre Escend I do get the point that you’re making, but once again I return to the idea of playing by the rules of the land. While Vanellope certainly isn’t the pinnacle of impulse control, she definitely understands the concept of playing by the game as it’s laid out for her, and exhibits care and concern for this game. Whether or not she is able to play by the rules and not cause utter chaos for the player characters is not something that we experience based on the scope of the film (and it would be a tad unfair to judge her on her actions as an NPC-style glitch in Sugar Rush during the first Wreck it Ralph, considering she was also ostracized and mistreated and only knew that she was “meant” to race). If we somehow get a third film that shows her definitely overdoing it and abusing her glitch to her advantage against the players, then I would agree that she will have indeed gone Turbo at that point. Until then, it’s clear she’s taking every step possible to make the transition as smooth as possible and ensure she is a part of the game, not above it.
      Not to mention, at least to the extent that we get to see Slaughter Race, it seems as if part of the gimmick is that getting to Shank is difficult as hell, and beating her is impossible. I have definitely played games where that difficulty spike is made even higher by the Dev team. Whether she’d be patched out or not is a different story, and would be more of a question to if this could feasibly even be possible, not whether or not a character is moralistically in the right to do so or if she’s breaking the established taboo of one specific arcade.
      Additionally, you emphasize that she’s harming both games, but you never mention the impact on Sugar Rush, so I can only assume you’re arguing in the same vein as the points placed in the film. For the characters it would likely be a blessing, considering you exhibit their sheer anger and frustration with Vanellope being the main choice. The theoretical “workload” placed on them is not one that is actually exhibited as a problem - in fact, we see these sugar kids literally fighting to be on the daily roster in the first game, and the lack of a playable character would just make it easier on them. As for its impact on the outside world, it could be logically explained. Vanellope appeared after years of it being plugged in, and disappeared when the game was unplugged. At least to most gamers, that would imply a hidden unlock requirement to make her accessible. It could either push kids to play it more to unlock her again, or it would just slightly increase the speed in which the game eventually falls out of use; which it was clearly already doing at the start of the film. Heck, if you really wanted to go down the track of speculation and real life gaming, the same reset function that ended up saving the original game would probably just re-establish the code for another Vanellope, just not our Vanellope.. But, of course, that’s going down a rabbit hole, and I think this post is getting a touch too long for that, haha.
      Nonetheless, thank you for your input :)

    You know what would make the 2nd one better? Make Vanellope a villain, but redeemed similar to Ralph-Zilla. Instead of the virus, Vanellope wants Slaughter race more than Sugar Rush, but she isn't aware of the consequences.
    I think the Climax should be Vanellope and Ralph's conflicts and Ralph tries to convince her to return to Sugar Rush, to the point where Ralph mentions Turbo, to which Vanellope took lil offense to it as she's doing it the same way, results in her Glitching uncontrollably, infecting the Internet. She begins to lose it, but Ralph tries to calm her down and mentions that if she's not back in her game, where everyone said she's the best character there, Sugar Rush will be unplugged and would also risk Slaughter race being disconnected. Vanellope continued her glitching rampage and stops where she saw her reflection of the puddle (Similar to the one before "There's no place like Slaughter Race" song.), implying that she's gonna go turbo and never realized it. She then calms herself and started crying. Ralph comforts her and tries one last time to convince her. Vanellope then accepts it as she, the president of Sugar Rush, shouldn't abandon her game and friends and returns home with Ralph as the Internet fixes itself by Anti-Virus software, in which Ralph and Vanellope returned to the Game Central safely. Vanellope knew her home is Sugar Rush, but is gonna miss Slaughter Race. Learning that it's also his fault she went berserk with her Glitching the Internet, Ralph has an Idea to make up for it. The next day, Ralph goes to Slaughter Race and asked Shank to put Vanellope's code in Slaughter Race. She did so and Ralph returns to Vanellope and told her she can go play in Slaughter Race after the Arcade is closed. Vanellope then hugs Ralph, forgiving and Thanking him for letting her be in Slaughter Race.
    Yes, in the actual ending, she mentioned she'll come back to Sugar Rush, but it just doesn't feel impactful enough IMHO.

I bet if she approached him and said. "Hey I'm just a glitch here. Recently I saw the movie about 2 weeks ago online and I liked it, you know with the sappy little message of friendship and stuff. But I noticed aLOT of plot holes and this video made me realize it even more.
    The whole thing with Vanellope leaving Sugar Rush at the end of the movie broke my heart. I understood that she needed a change, but she’s technically the biggest part of Sugar Rush. Yeah there’s 15 other racers, but she’s the LEADER. The game is still REMOTELY popular because of her. The first movie was even entirely about not leaving your game. Vanellope doesn’t realize that if she’s gone, that one and only game console will be unplugged because Litwak will think the game is broken.
    My other biGGEST pet peeve in the wHOLE DAMN MOVIE, is the concept that you don’t know whether it’s day or night when you’re in the internet. HELLO? REALLY? Ralph and Vanellope were in there for hOW MANY DAYS? Did no one just not notice they were gone??? What about the WiFi guard??? Did the Fix it Felix game not run for awhile? Because that game depends on Ralph being there.
    And just to point out, there wasn’t a scene showing that Litwak received the wheel for Sugar Rush. Don’t you think it’s old that he would just think it’s absolutely fine that it magically came in the mail?
    Other than that, yeah I do think Vanellope went turbo. It seems all innocent because she’s a child character, but she really did abandon her game and I really don’t think that’s right. What she should’ve done was go back to Sugar Rush and go to Slaugther Race when the arcade closes. Wouldn’t that be better? She gets to race all day in two different games. Then Ralph would call her on that mini phone and tell her when to come back.
    WHY DIDNT THAT HAPPEN
    I WOULDA BEEN MORE SATISFIED WITH THAT ENDING THEN RALPH BEING ALL ALONE AT THE ARCADE

    I think its important to remember that Vanelopes game got "Turboed". In the first movie, no one missed her, the game was still played, but Turbo was actually in control. So the first movie introduces her as a "flexible" character, she should be there but bc of turbos actions, its clear she isnt necessarily needed. I think thats why she has this ability to game switch, without necessarily going "turbo" because her game had been tampered with already. Its a domino effect, one characters choice affecting others. Maybe it even changed her code to want more. If she didnt develope a need to do more, she would not have had the persistence in the first movie to go after turbo!

Sound familiar? Vannelopie’s glitch would have been such a trait, even the children who knew nothing about how special those games are loved her glitch. It’s likely that her glitch would have saved her game from fading into obscurity, from disappearing, from dying. • @5SakuraHaruno
      @5SakuraHaruno Před 5 lety +33

      Let me try to explain this, so bear with me. In the first movie, Vanellope was unable to leave her game because Turbo hijacked her game. However, he was unable to fully remove her character from the game's entirety, so he removed her data connections, causing her to lose her position in the game and glitch out at times. The only way for her to regain her position in the game was if she managed to cross the finish line (she didn't have to be the winner, she just needed to complete a race). However, Turbo (as King Candy) did everything to ensure that she was unable to race, going so far as to lock away all the memories of the Sugarland inhabitants and ostracize her from the other players. At the end of the first movie, after Ralph manages to defeat Turbo, he pushes Vanellope's car across the finish line, restoring her code so that she would be able to travel outside her game. She actually is seen at Calhoun and Felix's wedding as Calhoun's maid of Honor in Calhoun's game. As for the glitching out, she was able to keep this ability as when her code was restored, she managed to gain control over her glitching so that it would not be able to cause any negative consequences in Sugar Rush should she be picked as the player character.

    • @phlpcockrell

      Volcanoblade - I think it’s more she’s able to wilfully manipulate her own character code into a glitch-like superpower. Back when she was disconnected, her character code was unstable so emotional swells and outbursts caused her to spaz out. I think if she never learnt to “control” her code while she was disconnected, she would’ve lost her power once she was restored.

    • @Rikalonius
      @Rikalonius Před 5 lety +7

      She couldn't get out in the first game, not because she had a glitching power, but because King Candy had separated her from the code from all the other interconnected objects. But that separation wasn't what caused her glitch. KC also removed the characters memories, so she didn't know that was perfectly normal for her. So he, and the other racers, gas lighted her into thinking she was abnormal. So a reboot would have wiped her out entirely. KC just convinced Ralph that her glitch wasn't intended.

    • @aislinnlujan424
      @aislinnlujan424 Před 5 lety +3

      @@Rikalonius Eh, I disagree just a little. I do believe the "glitch" was a consequence of King Candy seperating her from her code, and that her "glitching" was actually a place holder for another special ability that Vanellope has, to wit, time jumping or hammerspace. In other words, not dissimilar to her "glitch" powers, but because of the way she was ripped from her game, the visual of her using her power looks glitchy, whereas if King Candy hadn't ripped her from the game, would have been a smoother, more appealing, less garbled visual.
      Why did she decide to keep the visuals afterwards? Well, like Dr. Who liked the whoosh sound the Tardis made, so he kept the landing break on, Vanellope loved the way the glitch looked, so kept the visual in her code, even after she was incorporated back into the game.

    Thank you for discussing this! Wreck it Ralph 2 had a beautiful message but, this plot hole bothered me! Although it wasn’t out of jealousy, YES she went turbo simply out of boredom with her current game. Like you stated Turbo left his game for evil reasons, Ralph left his game because he didn’t feel appreciated for his important role in the game - they treated him like he was a real villain instead of this is just the job he does that makes the game work! That’s why he wanted to be considered a good guy so he would feel appreciated and honored like Felix. The reason this act is deemed “going Turbo” is because Turbo was the first in the arcade to game hop, just he did it for evil & selfish purposes. Vanellope did go Turbo, she ditched her game & her responsibilities as the main character/and leader of sugar rush because she yearned for something new. I definitely think there will be consequences for her choice if Disney expands more on the Wreck it Ralph Universe. I don’t think she had to permanently leave. Slaughter Race is an online game humans can play at anytime, while Sugar Rush is only active during the open hours of the arcade. Why couldn’t she do her job during the day & enjoy Slaughter Race after arcade hours and be back before the arcade opens?

    Ah, thank you, I'm glad that this came up and I'm also glad to see that I'm not the only one who has been bothered by this. In a way the answer is both yes and no. Turbo's motives were more on the malicious side while in Vanellope's case she made sure that it turned out well...(sort of). We also heard in the first movie that wanting more out of life and abandoning one's game is considered going turbo and Vanellope did both in the sequel. You also made a good point about the other Sugar Rush kids getting their former challenge back without her but also now being left without a leader, so who is in charge now? I certainly wouldn't trust Taffyta with such a huge responsibility because she is to much of a little snot. Not to mention that Vanellope expressed how much she has come to love Ralph and yet now she is going to leave him. Ummm...okay. Also, how did Shank "add" Vanellope's code to Slaughter Race because I'm pretty sure it doesn't work that way. In the first movie it was established that they shouldn't "mess with the program". That would be the job of the human programmers (hence their job title), not the characters in the games, so what gives Shank the authority to do that anyway? Also, Vanellope is wrong about something: "Oh please, I'm one of sixteen playable characters, no one will miss me" Uh, wrong honey, you will be missed. Did she not see how those two little girls at the beginning of the movie loved her so much? That pretty much renders her statement null and void. It would seem that while Ralph has learned a lot in the way of life lessons so far, Vanellope has learned absolutely nothing, THROUGH TWO WHOLE MOVIES AND A SIX YEAR GAP! This is one of several things in this movie that bothered me but it is, without a doubt, the biggest. I have a WAY better idea of how this movie could have ended than what the folks at Disney Animation came up with. Sorry, just being honest here.

    I hate this sequel so much. What really pissed me off was that Vanellope doesn’t stick to the program and goes off course mid race during arcade hours and no one even mentions it. The game getting unplugged is HER fault. Sure, Ralph made the course, but they BOTH know that in mid gameplay it’s not a good idea to do whatever you want; especially after the events of first movie. The first movie had real consequences and higher stakes. The tension was more vivid and the message was unique. It respected and honored nostalgic games. Plus, Vanellope in Slaughter Race is supposed to be an obstacle for the player; how would they react to see such a childish character model in a GTA style game? Don’t give me that BS of Vanellope being added into the code of Slaughter Race because last movie Turbo was also implemented in the code and died anyways. Yeah he was a virus at that point, but his goofy King Candy mode would’ve regenerated at least. Vanellope is in two movies and gets no real development. What she wants, she gets with no consequences or growth. They had the Internet plot at their disposal and they wasted it. They completely obliterated the message from the last movie. They wrote the characters to make them unlikeable. They disregarded good characters like Felix and Calhoun. The sequel doesn’t exist to me. The first movie is the only movie in my book.

      Of course, that's what I forgot there. I mean Turbo found a way to add his code in Sugar Rush, yet once he was a cy-bug he still managed to die and never regenerate. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that he was exposed by Vanellope and his code was no longer protecting him, depending on how he managed to hack himself. Unless any other game sprite has found a way to add their code in any other game without being exposed or erased, it would be a miracle for them to do that in the modern world, especially if there might come a day when the arcade closes down and everyone will have no choice but to find new homes on the internet like Vanellope did.

    After watching WiR2, I felt conflicted because the first movie spent so much time reinforcing loyalty and friendship just for this one to seem to throw all that away. Then I had a thought... what if Vanelope went "turbo" because of Turbo to begin with? He did intentionally mess with her code and in the process put himself in her spot. Then, once Vanelope regained her spot, some of Turbo's leftover code and his own messing with her's could have permanently damaged her character making her feel like she didn't belong in Sugar Rush. Even though she didn't abandon her game for maniacal reasons, she did leave for selfish reasons just like Turbo. The point at which Vanelope decides to abandon the main focus of the movie (which was to save Sugar Rush) and instead focus on how to become part of Slaughter Race was where the movie died for me. Vanelope then defends her selfish decision by giving even more selfish justifications. Ralph becoming the bad guy in this movie just because he wants everything to stay the same was the absolute worst plot imaginable. Even the thought of it not being entirely Vanelope's fault for "going turbo" is slightly redeeming, the selfish tones of "do what you want regardless of how it affects others" completely ruins this movie for me. It even sort of ruins the first movie because now I know what Vanelope turns into and I just can't accept that. Bad move Disney...

      Throughout the Sonic the Hedgehog game and movie, it's preached that if a character dies outside their game, they won't regenerate, and it's game over. However, this rule is forgotten in the movie. Even characters who weren't supposed to be in a particular game appear in it, which can confuse players. For instance, they may wonder why a cotton candy anime character is in the game or why a character who's not supposed to be in the game is there. Such limitations were established, but the movie seems to have ignored them.

  • @PrinceMarc22
    @PrinceMarc22 Před 5 lety +9

    I definitely think Vanellope went Turbo! To me, Ralph Breaks the Internet was one big double standard. As you eloquently pointed out, Turbo and Ralph are criticized and in Turbo's case, demonized for stepping out of their roles and while the first did it for selfish reasons, we see the negative consequences of Ralph's actions when he leaves Fix-It Felix Jr. Yet, 6 years after Ralph's escapades, Vanellope finds herself struggling with the same desires but rather than being criticized by her fellow gamers for feeling this way, she is given the option to leave and her fellow racers are simply shifted to another gaming format (with Felix and Calhoun as their adoptive parents). In affect, what this film is telling the audience is some people are allowed to pursue their dreams but not others i.e. Ralph wanting to go somewhere he would be accepted like Vanellope did. True, once he returned to his game, his situation improved but it's the principle of the matter. Why is it okay for some to achieve their dreams but not others? Basically, Disney totally contradicted themselves with this film but then, this isn't the first time a Disney sequel has completely contradicted the original!

    I'd say Vanellope didn't went Turbo for Slaughter Race but for Sugar Rush.

  • @nervatel3782
    @nervatel3782 Před 4 lety +5

    TL:DR Yes, Vanellope went Turbo
    The first and prime rule of every arcade game is "don't fight the player/program"
    Vanellope was being selfish, she fought the player for control, breaking the controller, and as such, is directly responsible for Sugar Rush getting unplugged. She really didn't do anything to help raise the money for a replacement controller.
    She abandoned her role and responsibilities in Sugar Rush. She isn't just the queen of the kingdom, she is the game's mascot and as such, she is plaster all over the cabinet, let alone she is the most popular character.
    You probably won't ever read the rest of this, but...
    It is established that the most important rule of every arcade game is "Don't mess with the program," which Ralph specifically gets scolded about this in multiple instances.
    The first time is during the bad guy meeting, when he first says "I don't want to be the bad guy." At this point he doesn't have any intention to actually go into another game (he just wants to feel appreciated), but he is faced with the accusation of wanting to go turbo.
    The second time is when his actions result in the First Person Shooter dying in Hero's Duty, Ralph gets scolded and knocked upside the head by Calhoun ("Don't interfere with the FPS")
    Vanellope is the mascot of Sugar Rush, she is programmed to be the ruler of the game, she fought the player's control, she broke the game controller, she went turbo and by leaving Sugar Rush forever she is abandoning her role of being Sugar Rush's mascot.
    You can't really blame Ralph for building onto a level, Vanellope was being selfish when she fought the player to explore it, something that is clearly establish as a bad thing to do, and because of it she broke the game controller.
    At the end you ask:
    1. "is it going turbo to leave your game ?"
    Yes, she is the game's Mascot and is supposed to be the queen, she is abandoning her responsibilities
    2. "If it is about the intention of going against who you are and selflessly destroying games"
    Yes, she absolutely did, her selfish actions are directly responsible for destroying Sugar Rush's controller and getting the game unplugged. Sure, they get a replacement controller, but Ralph was the reason they got enough money for it.
    You can't put the blame Ralph for destroying the controller, the player didn't want to go on the path, and Vanellope broke the first rule of all the arcade games, "Don't fight the player/programming".
    She didn't need to go on that path, she was being completely selfish.
    She didn't mitigate her actions to avoid hurting others, she was being completely reckless.

    It was specifically stated at the end of the movie that Vanellope had been added to the code of the game.
    Either way, it appears that Turbo was an '80s video game character. This was WAY before the Internet, and crossovers almost never happened in video games. The first instance I can think of is Smash Bros.

She wasn't even allowed to DRIVE in a RACING GAME. She was taken out of power by a guy who left his own busted game. For her to just leave the game and want something more makes her feel much more unlikeable. She had dreamed of being on the same level as her fellow racers. She lived with trash! All that Ralph did for her, and yet she wants to bounce. She wants to leave because she's bored now. She doesn't appreciate what she has anymore. She could easily go back to having nothing. I get WHY the decision was made for Vanellope to transfer games; Disney realized the huge ethical cowpat they'd put their foot in by having the moral of a story be "even if you've been abused and forced into a horrible situation, it's okay as long as you have one friend and people start being nice to you". I'm more surprised there wasn't a huge backlash from abuse victim support groups chastising that. Putting the message in kids' heads that they have to stay in neglectful, abusive, and degrading places because that's their place is TERRIBLE.
    SO, naturally, they had to use the same characters and franchise to roll that message back and give the world a positive message.... trouble is, they messed up again, and now the moral compass of this franchise is FUBAR. Vanellope is extremely selfish and in the wrong in this situation, mainly because she's the most popular racer at this point. She's keeping Sugar Rush afloat.... if she stops popping up in the roster, players will be less and less interested in a game that has a rapidly declining player base. I mean, you said it yourself, Sugar Rush is down to one machine.... A new, more advanced racing game will be the nail in their coffin, especially since by the point of this movie, kids will have noticed another character missing that was nearly always in the racer roster: King Candy. He would have previously had the best ability and car, because he was Turbo, able to make his character as he wished, and he was using Princess Vanellope's car, the Royal Racer, which is the best cart.
    After the first movie, kids were probably confused when King Candy and the Royal Racer vanished and Vanellope von Schweetz appeared with some weird mash up cart. But she likely started appearing every day, and her glitch jump made her popular. By the second movie, she's probably the only racer chosen, since the second machine is gone and only single player mode is available now. Sure, the other sugar kids are happy now that they'll get a chance to race more, I'm sure they'll figure out pretty quickly that their player base is going to dwindle again. And the population of Sugar Rush Speedways is massive because of the audience candies... It's shown when they all pour out of the cybug infested world; there are hundreds of them! They can't all just bum around in Game Central Crossing, and a major gag/conflict of the second movie is the other games trying to organize and find living space for them all. Sure, they could go to the internet like Vanellope... but they wouldn't be happy, because they love their home and their game. Only Vanellope wasn't satisfied, even though she'd gotten what she'd always wanted: to be a part of her game and race.

    But, like I said before, Vanellope can go back & visit Sugar Rush. Her not being on the daily roster for a bit would be strange but she can come visit so that game players don't think there's something wrong. So she could come home to visit with new challenge ideas & track designs from web games that they can program into Sugar Rush as an upgrade, to revive it's popularity.
    Now that the arcade is online, they could add in the new programming along with a notice appearing on the screen the next morning that says something like "Thanks for joining us online! Updates have arrived, press start to load." Then the arcade owner wouldn't be suspicious, & Sugar Rush would get popular again. All the arcade gamers would think that the game's maker or a big Sugar Rush fan with hacking skills had uploaded the new features, & with these features Vanellope would like visiting home, as there would be new challenges. Her & her "glitch" superpower appearing occasionally but not all the time would be thought of as part of the newly added programming, with more randomness to keep players challenged & playing. With web access they could spread these changes to any other copies of Sugar Rush still functiong in other arcades. Those arcades might or might not have had a "Turbo" event at their arcade, depending on how & when new racing games were added. Therefore, their Vanellope might be a version that hasn't had her life as princess interrupted, not found the incomplete bonus level in the volcano, not met & befriended Ralph. But she & the other Sugar Rush racers would still likely feel bored, or players might be getting tired of it as they had played all the levels, & so they'd welcome the upgrades.
    They could also inspire other displaced characters from Turbo & other games to do the same. They can explore the internet for update ideas to add themselves to other arcade or online games. Like when Ralph & the Nicelanders had the characters come be on a bonus level of their game.
    As long as they're careful about viruses on the web, it could actually help the games at the arcade.

And left her old game to rot, despite being the most POPULAR character in the game who would be missed by many. And due to her abilities coming off as buggy or glitchy, and being on an ONLINE game.. There would be definitely be those angry gamers who would complain to the game devs, who would realize "wait we never added a character like that". Resulting in them pulling the game off since it was an ONLINE ONLY game, which would be faster than pulling a plug. And with how her code was added into it... She would NOT be able to leave. Plus would probably be disconnected MID race since that happens during emergency patches. Her code would be fully deleted from it, leaving not even a bit of data even memories.. Gone.

    I think she went Turbo, and selfishly so because lack of bad intentions does not mean no one will get hurt just because she "didn't mean" to cause harm. It would've probably been more or less okay if: 1) it were not a sequel to a film that put such a great emphasis on how ditching your game is bad and dangerous in the long run; 2) Vanellope were not so desperate to belong in said film, she loved Sugar Rush and wanted to be in it; 3) we didn't have so many recent Disney sequels ending similarly (Woody leaving made more sense than this).
    Vanellope is a character that really made her game shine. The game was popular, but she is the character people love and choose to play as the most after discovering her. The game was doing fine without her because the players simply did not know about her. Now they do, and they love her, they play the game for her and as her. Her absence will cause a decline in an already struggling game's popularity (it makes less than 200 dollars a year with Vanellope in it, and Litwak wasn't too eager to buy a wheel for the game, implying it wasn't paying off all that much and was not worth all the trouble, so I am assuming that it is her presence that directly contributes to this game reaching a break-even point, otherwise it would be unplugged as soon as it stopped making money), and it'll be a matter of time before it gets unplugged and replaced, Ralph himself stated that it happened to lots of games. There will always be a minority that will always prefer other racers, but if the game is not profitable, why keep it? It's like Final Fantasy VII without Cloud - other characters are solid, but without him, it would not be the same (yes, we did get games like, say, Crisis Core, but they expand the story instead of throwing Cloud out of the window), or like any Persona title without its protagonist. Vanellope's absence does not break the game from a technical standpoint, but it will affect its financial performance and popularity.
    It would still be kind of a stretch, but if we saw her come to fellow racers and discuss it with them like Woody did with Buzz with the latter telling him that everything will be fine, I'd still struggle to accept the ending, but it would be a more solid conclusion, not perfect, but more covered. But we see none of that. She just leaves after all the trouble Ralph went through to save her game TWICE, in the first movie and now the sequel. I understand that Ralph went overboard with his unhealthy idea of a friendship, but frankly, I am more willing to sympathize with him in this situation. He does have the right to be upset and even angry. She leaves just so that SHE can have fun, she does something that was HEAVILY frowned upon in the original movie, but this time it's suddenly touching and empowering? The first film showed us in fine and vivid detail what exactly is going to happen if a character leaves their game and hops from place to place. It made it perfectly clear that it's not just bad, it puts everyone in danger: characters will be either homeless or they can even die by being erased if they don't make it out of the game. But hey, we can sweep a few ones and zeros under the rug so that this one girl can seek some extra thrill, right? Right? No.
    Not meaning to do harm does not suddenly lift all responsibility off her shoulders or prevent said harm from happening.

    If Vanellope did not ignore Ralph's warnings about Slaughter Race being dangerous, she would not go Turbo. But at least Ralph earned $30k for the Sugar Rush wheel. Shank was just peer pressuring Vanellope to go Turbo and abandon Ralph

    I agree. In the first movie they make the idea of going Turbo seem really black and white; if you leave your game, you've gone turbo, and that's just not the case
