    Last year VGK just lit up Bob, so I assumed this would happen with Oilers too, but last year Panthers had a cinderella run of (mainly) Bob and Tkachuk.
    This year Bob has had *significantly* less work before finals and is much fresher, their GM significantly upgraded their D in the offseason, their offence by adding Rodriguez and Tarasenko, Lundell at 22 years is playing like a hardened vet, Luostarinen is not hurt like in last years finals, Barkov is significantly better this year..I guess their stars are just aligned...

    Going into the series Florida had them on every level. Forwards due to depth, defence due to Oilers D being gaff machines, goaltending is obvious, coaching experience and Florida was just there last year and are motivated and calm. Oilers really need the top 2 or 3 guys production on power play and if shut down, they won't win a series.
    The scary part for them is Bobrovsky may have just had his 'bad' game and seals the deal tonight. Let's face it, if not for that lucky one off the guy's elbow and in, the Oilers score just 2. So, 0, 1 and 2 basically in 3 games so far.

    True fans are the ones in the stands. Those fans know the game and there players more than any other fan base in the industry. Just look how they reacted when brown scored his 1st goal. Where did any other fan base ever react that way. Fans over social media are overall hossible and reacting based on their inexperience. Hope the oilers can win game 4. At least that and I will be ecstatic. Great season

    Great episode, but I disagree that some of us talking about transactions aren’t referring to the game itself. The Stanley cup already took place. Rangers vs Panthers. It was an absolute battle. Both teams rolling four lines deep. Near perfect transitions between offense and defense. Near perfect forecheck and back checking. Incredible goaltending. Incredible fire power. Incredible PP and PK. Two full mature clubs, fully realized, very balanced from 1st line to 4th line.
    I respect the Oilers a lot. I respect Connor A LOT. But the team has serious fundamental issues. They’ve done a great job at masking that. But they’re there. They’re not rolling four lines deep consistently. Canadian teams all of a sort of have a God complex. They pay one or two players insane money, then they can’t sign on solid depth players to make their teams truly solid from top to bottom.
    I think it goes back to Gretzky… but Gretzky wasn’t the best player on the dynasty Oilers. Mark Messier was, and proved it again and again. The game is about a lot more than merely point production. Barkov is a PERFECT example of that. He puts up points, plays 200 feet, and highly respects and engages in being defensively responsible. That kind of player is more valuable than any other type of player. It doesn’t matter if you’re putting up 300 points a year. The guys who respects defense are going to win the Stanley cup every time. Because when you’re playing the best offensive players in the world and they all have elite talent. The thing that can make the difference between the two is are they willing and competent to also play a defensive game. The Stanley cup playoffs is always lockdown defense for the best teams.
    With that said… to cut to the chase. The reason some of us are talking about the transactions over the past week. Is because the Oilers appear to need some retooling. The team isn’t built correctly to beat a team like the Panthers. And like the Panthers did a couple of years ago. The Oilers are going to have to make some moves if they want to get back to the finals in the future. Get some solid assets to fill third and fourth lines. It cannot all be on Connor and Draisaitl. One of them is going to have to go before it’s too late to get a return.
    Based on the age of the core. The contracts of the core. And the teams needs to stay a contender. I will repeat this same outcome would’ve happened against the Rangers. It ain’t over until it’s over though. So fingers crossed they can clinch a few. But it’s an uphill battle like never before at this point. Good luck!

      Good and unbiased analysis. Whom of both would you trade?
      I would prefer trading Draisaitl. He is a powerplay specialist and a great strategic mind, but neither particularly technically skilled nor a good skater. He is only beneficial in specific situations to the team.

    • @ericschultz1554
      @ericschultz1554 Před 9 dny

      @@SirVTropic Was about to respond, but figured I would watch the game first. Loved the response from the Oilers tonight in front of the home crowd. It was a great response.
      My initial findings haven't changed though. Some secondary scoring, but still mostly the usual suspects had to carry the team. One of the elite number one centers has to be moved so they can field two more lines of consistent scoring threats, or lock down defensive forwards (bottom 6) who are positive in the p +/-.
      Ideally they wouldn't want to move the captain of the team, unless he wants to be moved (tricky situation with Connor approaching UFA in 2 seasons). Without that insider knowledge, I would say move Draisaitl who has only one year remaining on contracts. Unless they can lock him up on a contract that's mutually beneficial (doubtful).
      The Oilers are going to lose a ton of trade stock if he doesn't resign, or get locked into a deal that's overpaying for a guy who will be outside his prime in a few years. Every team goes through it. Anyways... it ain't over until it's over. Excited to see if they can bring the same heat in Florida's stomping ground.

  • @wainber1
    @wainber1 Před 10 dny

    The lack of defence and solid goaltending have been hurting the Oilers in this Cup final and likely will mean a Panthers' win of game 4 or 5. That's although I still hope that instead the Oilers will hoist that Cup later this month.

  • @stephenlucas5130

    Oilers good team. Subpar goaltending. Just like Hurricanes. Good team great record...subpar goaltending. Skinners gaff letting Florida score didn't endear him to his teammates. Calvin's on the bench waiting his shot. But i believe the braintrust of Oilers will send out Skinner.....subpar goaltending. Until Edmonton & Hurricanes get a true #1 netminder this will always be the outcome. Florida in 5...4 preferably.

    The Oilers want to spend all their money on forwards and defense then run a couple of backup goalies in net expecting to win the cup,doesn't work that way.

    Wait, I see the Panthers score beautiful goals, 4 per have. The Oilers can't score except a few greasy goals. So the whine. There is a reason why the President's Trophy winners go golfing in April every year. The Panthers did a couple of years back. They have the same players for the most part but they play different now.

      You say Florida is built for playoffs wins. Then why are they not a straight up better team? Bouchard has been meh. Barkov is the best two player in the league. They let McDavid run around and shift players on him all night. Can’t score off the boards. Edmonton got a B game Dallas team after Vegas and Colorado. This time I think Edmonton is gassed like Dallas was. Stop taking shots on Bob at the pad level. Cookie jar is hardly a thing in this series. Anyway. Fun analysis. Detailed. I think Edmonton wins one tomorrow. Then it’s over.

    forwards= Florida.. At least they are scoring.
