As an infp I can talk to myself so well. And maybe that’s because I know I’ll understand myself. But as soon as it’s the time to express my ideas/feelings with other people in a non creative way I lose all my communication skills and end up not really saying anything of substance because you dont really have the time to think deeply about things when you’re in a conversation.

This is exactly what I do too! And then long after the conversation is over, it still wraps around and around in my head till I have every side and view on the topic. But of course by this point the topic never comes up again. I always feel overwhelmed by words in a active conversation, like no matter what I say it wont be what I mean.

Would you call it scatter brained? Maybe I have better control over it. I do relate a little to what you say. But I know where all my stuff is. And don't tend loss anything. But say this morning I was so engrossed in a discussion that was simulating to me prior to tea break at work. When I sat down with everyone I forgot to eat, or couldn't be bother as I was still really mulling over something's from the earlier conversation. And joining into the talk at the table. The part I might call scatter brain is that I have some many references of past experience flying around my head that relate to the topic at hand I have to pause now and the to sift thru them to find the authentic one, or the one that feels right.

"Having a hard time expressing himself verbally" God I burst out laughing at this point. I'm simultaneously very verbose and yet I have a hard time explaining myself. It's like there's this level of feeling that exists beyond words and I have these nonconceptual feelings or ideas that move too quickly for me to express unless I can somehow engage my Ne (like I'm doing right this second).

And then again public speaking is a no go zone, we don't work well together (bestman at a wedding). Actually just being a groomsmen at the alter I need 6 shots before I step up there. Put me up singing in front of my band, no problem. Joking with the crowd all good. Explain that one someone.

I totally understand. I just had a presentation representing a company today in class (I am infp-ti grip and studying business major). I was so nervous I couldn't eat food until around 6pm because I knew it might get worse plus with AC on full blast, I was shaking so much. I was sort of angry at myself. I was talking to myself "It's just a presentation. The most important thing is to make my points get across and introducing the ideas. Even if some details are left out the most important are the main points. It's the written deliverable that is important." I practiced so many hours beforehand and had run through at least 3 times with my team. After the presentation, I was glad it was okay since I was prepared but during the presentation I froze at one detail I forgot. I felt my brain kinda went blank and just shut down on me. I was struggling to remember but felt I will hold the presentation up so I just jumped to the next point. It was the data/information analysis that are difficult for me to remember but if it was just casual conversation with my friend I tend to speak really fast and all the info just flow out smoothly.. It was just not being able to communicate efficiently (in chronological orderly manner) and exactly to what I was thinking makes me frustrated as hell. Even in writing sometimes I have to look up for words on dictionary to describe whatever the heck I want to say. Out of all work I have done though I just hate presentation the most.

Spot on!!! I've gotten into the habit now of asking people "does that make sense?" or "you know what I mean?"
because I find that I often don't make sense when I'm speaking... it's like I can't access the right information to answer a question/reply or something. I never feel satisfied with the way I've described something. Like I never feel like I REALLY got the meaning/message across to someone. That's solidified when I see the confusion in their eyes... :P

      @AZN234 Před 5 lety +87

      Wow. You're definitely not alone.
      Update:
As an INFP we need a really safe space to create and express our ideas where mostly it's usually free from others' judgements, where we can exercise our creative freedom (freedom to create), where these expressions of our ideas can be immortalized (think song writing/book writing/poetry/design/movie/video/art performance/comedy/humanitarian work/human development coaching/counseling/etc).
Our Extroverted Intuition/Ne (exploration of ideas and experiences) cognitive is our path to self-development and growth.
Make sure you work your way down starting from Fi (feeling based personal core values) to -> Ne (exploration of ideas and experiences). And only then, as we grow older (30-40 upwards) our Si and -> Te will eventually sort themselves through the healthy process of starting to operate from your core values and inner guide, Fi. Accessing our Fi in a healthy way is where our "state of flow" comes from.
Just be ready to ask others' for help, especially from the people we can trust dearly, to help with our weaker cognitive functions (Si/Te) on day to day basis. Ask them and you'll receive.
Lastly, try practicing/developing and also have a mindful experience our Shadow Function (5th/6th/7th/8th Function), which are Fe/Ni/Se/Ti. Try finding a trusted mentor that you're truly comfortable learning with to develop these (when finding a mentor, think of that mentor/tutor/school teacher/friends/family members of yours back in the days who you will always remember forever because they have given you a safe space to learn, endless uplifting encouragement, and also had devoted their time to give you their endless support to grow your true potential at the time). Just go one by one step by step at any given times, it will truly unlock some hidden potentials inside yourself that you never knew existed all these times.
I hope that you will see this comment, my dear fellow INFPs.

I think that playing this video and the Al Pacino one would be a clear demonstration about the differences between the types (INFP Vs INFJ)
    1) Chris Martin doesn't mind sharing his varied ideas and ambitions with the interviewer. Al Pacino seemed to evade questions revolving around that. (Ne Vs Ni)
    2) Al Pacino quite readily spoke about how lonely he was as a child and how depressed he was. An INFP would be a lot more reserved about mentioning that because it's so embarrassing and personal. (Fe Vs Fi)
    3) Al Pacino's speech seemed to have a consistent tone throughout, which was interjected with random moments of smiling at the interviewer to create rapport. Chris Martin's speech was similar (calm, soothing, etc) but he had random moments of becoming very animated, especially when the interviewer mentioned his experiences briefly, giving Chris the green light to ask him questions, to satiate his curiosity (Ni Fe/ Fi Ne- also the J Vs P difference)
    4) Al Pacino was able to express his insights (Ni) quite succinctly and directly (Fe). Chris could have arrived at the exact same insights, but he would have had to verbalise those thoughts, explore a bunch of other ideas and essentially find his way to that point externally (Ne) so that he can explain it clearly and directly (Te). (This wouldn't be the case if it was something Chris had thought of before).
    3) Chris seemed to be more conscious of whether his scattered speech would be understood and he seemed to be hurrying himself to get to the point. (Te).
    4) Al Pacino was a lot more conscious about making sure that his Ni- Ti honesty sounded socially appropriate and humble at all times. (Fe)
    5) Chris is clearly very eager to learn more about the inner workings of people's minds and he is very curious (Ne) but he holds back from asking thise questions because he doesn't want to overstep someone's Fi boundaries- so he becomes noticeably excited when someone's willing to share things with him.
    5) Al Pacino wouldn't have too much of a problem second guessing the appropriateness of a question (more conscious awareness of Fe) and wouldn't hesitate to ask someone such questions directly- he wouldn't need to wait for someone to drop hints about what they like to talk about (my own guess)
    6) Chris could have gone through emotionally taxing experiences and we would not know (Fi). Al Pacino was sad, lonely and depressed and we did get to know (Fe).
    7) Chris has a whole host of ideas and insights and we did get to know (Ne). Al Pacino would have had a lot of insights and ideas and we would not know (Ni).
    8) Chris contradicts and interrupts himself many times, as he's speaking, even when he has a clear idea in mind (Ne- Introverted judgement to extroverted perception). Al Pacino has a hard time drawing out his thoughts from the wells of his mind- he needs to find what he's trying to say, but once he does, he says it clearly and doesn't contradict himself (Introverted perception, extroverted judgement). On the other hand, Chris knows what he wants to say quite clearly, but as he's speaking he finds a way to contradict himself or come up with exceptions. Ne is the function that entertains parallelisms, paradoxes and exceptions to the rule.
    9) Both parties demonstrate humility, soft spoken-ness,concern for the true nature of humanity and the shared human experience.
Now, an INFP or an INFJ could, quite easily, do what the other does, but this is more of an illustration of their natural tendencies. :)

I accept all people of all types as they are; complicated and deeply flawed. I'm an INFJ and as silly as it is, it used to bother me when my type was put up on such a high pedestal. We're described as being these all-seeing, all-knowing intellectual sages. Indigo children with psychic powers who will lead humanity in the right direction, etc., etc., all that nonsense. Knowing all my flaws and that I don't come even close to fitting that description, I thought there was something wrong with me. Whenever I told people interested in MBTI that I'm INFJ, they'd get super excited like, "Ooh! It's like I'm meeting a unicorn!" Then I'd say, "Don't get excited, Honey. I'm not that special, I'm just your average, everyday shlub." Now I realize how ridiculous all of that was. Everyone has their good and bad qualities; some having to do with their MBTI, some with their mental health and some with their own individual experiences. I might be whiny, lazy and I REALLY need to work on my emotional resilience, but I am creative as hell, I think outside the box and I can't even count how many times people have said to me, "Wow, you're right. I've never thought of it like that before!"
I know this is all common knowledge. It's nothing new and eye-opening so I'm sorry if I come off as pretentious and condescending.
I'm also a great procrastinator, especially when I try to do any kind of creative writing. Creative ideas come to my mind so naturally, but trying to get them through my hands and onto paper or the computer screen feels like an intense workout.

You don't come off as pretentious at all. You're worrying too much about coming off as superior. You're just fine. Procrastination is different for us a bit, I guess, in the sense mine, and probably my type's is because we don't want to share our thoughts and feelings with the world, while you seem to be fine with sharing, but couldn't bother about picking up the tools needed for it.

Just so you all know. ( I'm an INFP) when he looks at the sky pretending to think , it's not that he is thinking , he is only analyzing if what he is about to say would sound valid or not. And most of the time the analysis fails cuz we INFPs tend to think that we are taking somone else's time , so we just say whatever without giving it much of thought ,it's not really a useful thing , but we just do it as INFPs

I think people who confuse infj and infp will really see the difference with your videos. One thing i noticed is how different the eyes organise themselves while they talk. Infj's have this intense static stare while they talk and then look back at the interviewer whereas the infp is looking all over the place as if sussing out with Ne what they want to say. The other thing i noticed in the infj interview is that a few times he said "What do you think?" Or asked the interviewer questions (Fe) whereas the infp got excited at a new perspective with someone else's opinion of their work (Ne). Not that I'm a pro but that's my 2 cents.

As an INFP I static stare not directly at the person when I've really locked into something on the topic of discussion and I'm really searching hard to see it that feels correct to me. When my eyes are darting around, I'm reading what's going on around a little, but I'm more so searching all the ideas and past experience that are flying around in my head. But I may have to try and take more notice.

INFJs have a much more intimidating or strong presence than INFP. For sure. Every INFJ I’ve met. I’m an INFP. Even if INFP dares to be bold, INFJ reeks of quiet strength even when they struggle or feel weak. (:

    • @muffkinns9669
      @muffkinns9669 Před 5 lety +9

I sometimes stare directly at people's eyes, sometimes everywhere, mainly cos while it may seem like I am looking outside I am actually seeing the inside of my head and attempting to 'collect' my thoughts and also cos I tend to have a million different thoughts at once. I would suddenly think of something and then link that to something completely different and so on and so forth. Also, sometimes I see in pictures, other times we may interrupt suddenly cos of an eureka moment flashed by and we didn't want to forget. Also, yes, we get excited when our views are challenged with a new perspective. It's like reading a book with gazillion different plot twists and endings but same characters. I swear the inside of my head is crazy.

This resembles one of my friends to an uncanny extent. All about the looks to the behavior, only the voice is a little different and he laughs a lot more. Though through him I got to see a quite mature infp playing out his inferior functions. We were in the band playing a revue for our highshcool. He, who was the leader of the band, had been quite whimsical for the whole year. But a week before the premiere, it was like he snapped into a different mindset. Started to make sure we arrived on time, took control of rehearsals, went out to buy equipment several times and discussed profusely with the leaders of the other parts of the revue to get more than just the band in order, god knows we needed it. All this without ever losing his charm or empathy. It was like he tapped into his Te in a controlled manner, as if he was flexing his well concealed organisational muscles. He somehow was the best of both worlds, and who'd expect that out of an infp?
It's also worth mentioning that when he first learned of MBTI, he rejected the system all together, stating that people are too unique to ever be put within the confines of a label haha.

It's true though! Definition restricts the possibility of change. We can attempt to categorize ourselves but the more we try to do that the more u'll realize it's nearly impossible cos the same thing experienced by 3 people can produce such different results! We are all similarly different.

Imagery encompasses our heads, and romance.. oh romance is important but very challenging to attain. We have these stories in our heads waiting to come true, but we feel like time is running out. Age becomes our enemy. We want to break out. We seek answers. We need inspiration. We just want to reach what we always dreamed of, yet our internal selves keep distracting and distracting till our energy runs out.

Okay, i guess now i can differentiate INFPs(hi everyone) and INFJs(it's me):
    1. INFPs biggest issue is forming a concrete thoughts, while INFJs biggest issue is focusing on daily basis details.
2.INFPs talk in very "cut-like" way and use authentic and unique self-crafted words, INFJs talk in loose way and use metaphors.
    3. INFPs talk about PAST events or experiences to win an argument, while INFJs talk about imaginitive FUTURE consequences to win an argument.
    4. INFPs prefer music that focuses on authenticity, beauty and past feelings/nostalgia, INFJs prefer music that focuses on bright images, beauty and future dream-like stories.
    5. INFPs do not have struggle with their identity but have struggle with fitting in, INFJs have struggle with their identity but fit in easily and feel empty in crowd.
    6. INFPs know who THEY are, but do not know WHAT THEY WANT, INFJs know WHAT THEY WANT, but do not know who THEY are.
    7. INFPs react to traumatic event by feeling depressed(people do not accept them) and keep to hold on, INFJs react to traumatic event by feeling melancholic(not accepting people) and overanalize everything.
    8. INFPs end up being hurt romantically because want to know why they try A LOT and people DO NOT want them, INFJs end up being hurt romantically because want to know why they DO NOT LIKE ANYONE and DO NOT SEE MEANING.
Hope it helps guys))) your lovely INFJ

      1. I have trouble forming concrete thoughts. I'm absolutely terrible at imporvisation for something like a school presentation, 30 seconds in I malfunction without a script. So I write the script and memorize it. If I miss a line, my whole memory of it can stop, same for playing music on the piano(tertiary si and absolutely aweful ni )-->also corollary to
      6. I don't know what I want(probably the bad ni) but I always think about how I feel and what kind of person I might be(fi)
      2. I can't talk for the life of me so it may seem "cut like" as I think about how to talk.
3.Talking about my past experiences is my go to conversation starter with someone who I like(tertiary si)
      4. My favorite style of music is japanese pop music and they are all about nostalgia(tertiary si preference)
      5. Yea, I can't make friends easily or be in a big social circle
      7. Yes I lost some friends because I was depressed of a "trauma" I had from a failed relationship
      8. Yes when I am in love with someone, I try a hell a lot to get them to like me more. I presented birthday, christmas, valentines day, thanksgiving presents and even some days that weren't holidays. And when they don't reciprocate or something happens, I get so confused.
Thanks to you, I'm sure I'm an infp now.

I'm an INFP 4w5 (some of my other "wings" are rather close to my 5 score though and I have extensive understanding of my brain)..though I am definitely a 4. I relate to this wholeheartedly, obnoxiously. It's hard to actually break it down because it's almost "cringe" worthy. When I write, it comes from my "soul" otherwise I won't do it. I can write about anything, but I'll only ever write whenever something/someone/event has such a hold over to me that I have to write a song to immortalize the feeling, though if the song is for a person - I will give the song to them and never actually "read" it myself, so once that person is gone..that song is gone with them, unless they kept it themselves. I say that but I've only actually given a song to a particular person once as it's a deeply personal thing to share and it makes me incredibly vulnerable -- though -- without _them_ I'd of never actually written the song as their existence was the inspiration for the song. I've been on the computer my entire life (while being big into sports/outdoors) but also programming/scripting and world development (mapping) which world creation for me (my favorite form of art) - adding all the characters and the quests to the world is quite like writing a song, you're bringing something in existence with your own personality and your ability to compliment the world with further pieces of your imagination and having someone "play" it and enjoy it is one of the most addicting, amazing feelings I've ever had.
It's really strange being an "INFP" male in 2022. The internet is bigger than ever, but we're more "alone" than ever. Authenticity has been shaved away for waterfalling facades, reality TV shows have replaced reality - and people base their lives off of shows scripted heavier than a WWE match.
Fun Fact: I remember this entire family of Pentecostals believed "wrestling WWE" was actually real, unscripted - and me being a 7-8 year old had to explain to the father that this isn't real was insane to me, he attempted to belittle and humiliate me. He never apologized.
Also as roughly the same age at the state fair, a preacher asked us as we walked by if we believed in "christ" when I was with my grandmother and I answered "I'm not sure." and apparently found out from that day on I was absolutely hellbound as he was unable to make me conform to this ideal/belief.
I learned young that people will nearly always attempt to alter your beliefs to match theirs - If you don't believe how they do, it's "unacceptable" and I believe as an INFP we're one of the few with the natural resistance to stay authentic in a forever growing virtual cesspool of inauthentic, misinformed, misinformation and any attempts to speak up are drowned out by 100's of "sheep" spamming until you're drowned out by their overpowering sound.
Jokes on them though, as I'd be an amazing cult leader. (Friends would approve this). I might get to that point. >;)

I've been a fan of Coldplay for over 17 years and watching her was like rediscovering Chris Martin's persona all those years ago. This particular interview - if I'm not mistaken - is from around 2005, which would explain why this triggered a burst of nostalgia.

He's obviously ENFP lol. This is one of the few interviews where he acts more introverted and quiet. Usually he's smiling and hyperactive

INFP can get super hyped when they are able to talk about ideas because they dont feel the shame of being selfish and self indulgent it could just be a mood thing. Interviews are the kind of thing INFPs can be really good at.

You’re confusing being an extrovert with being enthusiastic about a subject and outgoing. You can be smiley and hyperactive but ultimately you can be drained by social interactions.

I have to say, one of the things I am most proud of is my ability to articulate myself when I talk. I get so many compliment on how well spoken I am. HOWEVER when you ask me to express my FEELINGS, I suddenly cannot speak and I stutter.
    It's a weird feeling.
INFPS deep thinkers and feelers - however unable to express and verbalise said feelings.

As an INFP myself, I feel like this is a very accurate analysis and I have to say that I love it! It really is difficult to verbalize our internal thoughts sometimes and that "all over the place" stare is SO me! 😂
Sometimes I do it subconsciously and I have to catch myself. Add in being a double Pisces with a Gemini Asc. and it's just like 😲
But this Makes me imagine what Chris would think seeing someone analyze him like that lmao! Thanks for the vid Sara :) appreciate it~♪ definitely Subbing!

Thanks for this video, really appreciate it. If it's not too much to ask, I would love if you do another video someday with another male INFP male. Or female if feel inclined. Being male I would prefer male. Just curious to see the tells of other INFP'S that may have different weaknesses and strengths in their functions. Thanks again.

As a songwriter and a INFP, this is so accurate.
