Honda S2000 CR review! The Honda S2000 CR is a really special sports car, and I absolutely love it. Today I'm reviewing the S2000 Club Racer to show you around this impressive car, and I'll show you all of its quirks and features. The S2000 has aged incredibly well in my opinion.
It’s timeless

@@pbmcgme176 great steal!
Great review. I had one of these (and previous S2K's) and it remains one of my all time favorite cars. The shifter is still a benchmark among car guys who know their stuff, and the original S2K was a pioneer with electric power steering that was good from the very beginning (some companies -- I'm talking about you BMW -- struggled with EPS for a long time). I totally regret selling all of my S2Ks but my life was moving in a different direction. Wish I still had one of them to hide in my barn.
Regarding power, it's an interesting observation. At the time, one of the joys of the S2K was winding it out and enjoying the shifter. But you could also really enjoy the car at part throttle, shifting at mid RPM (still pretty high). That is not true of many modern sports cars that either have too much power, or rev hang, or both. Or they require you to break traction or break the law to have fun. I have an M2 Competition and most of its identity is about power and the exhilarating point and squirt acceleration. The rev hang -- a trademark of modern engines -- is very noticeable and takes some of the joy out of a manual transmission. But I found an interesting twist -- if I want to enjoy the M2C under legal conditions or part throttle, I need to put the throttle setting in comfort mode, which takes a little of the brute force out of the engine and lets you enjoy the shifter and savor the overall experience while running up to mid RPMs. All that power and modern engine technology needs to be crippled a little bit to get back to the sort of experience the S2K gave you all the time with no conditions. I'd say the S2K had a more honest, more genuine driving experience that most modern sports cars can't give you. Power isn't everything.
If we wish for success in life, it’s essential we commit to making that wish become a reality. The key to success in life is to go from interest to commitment to taking action from personal power.

Yup my 2002 has that as well
False. Hagerty has an article about the origins of the first push start.
There's no way the push button start thing is true. The very early VW Beetles (like 40s to 51) had a push button start and I don't even think that was the first.
@@sjhart14 There is a difference between push button start, which is just a different way to activate the starter, and single press start, where the ECU runs the starter only as long as needed.

Damn, Doug hates the new Type R so much he totally forgot about Honda having a fast manual car after the S2K
Dealership markups and questionable styling killed the Type R. Unless it’s a genuine classic, nobody is paying $40k+ for FWD.
For under $40K, which is what you should be paying it's a phenomenal car. It's handles like a dream, can be daily driven, gets really good fuel economy for a sportier car and is faster than most people realize. With a few upgrades the Type R is pushing close to 400 HP. They're awesome
its more of a trim package instead of a whole separate car
Fun fact: this car wasn't popular at release but got popular later because it was the last analog sport car from Honda.
(Just wanted to make sure you knew that fact since Doug only said it three times in the video)
I love Doug's bobble head shaking around with excitement
It's always fun to see how well the S2000s can still hold their own against newer sports cars at track days. They may be the old guy out there, but they are still way capable.

I remember people complaining about the S2000 “It needs to be driven at high RPM’s”, yet people loved Porsche’s because “It loves to be driven at high RPM’s”. Selective love appeal.
No, not that's not it. It's a Honda. That's it, especially here in the south. People hate em, even though they're arguably the best. 😂
I think the difference is that the older 911s and GT3's are still pretty quick at low rpm's, and even faster up higher. However the S2000 is simply slow at low rpm's
honda still slow when driven at higher rpm, porsche not haha, the s2000 really isnt "slow" but compared to a porsche, come on.
@@jj-fk9ez it’s slow for a “sports” car these days but when it came out it was just pretty average although it’s a great reliable platform to build a sports car if you were inclined
That's a reading comprehension issue on your part. There's a big difference between "needs to be" and "loves to be," in that one requires it and the other is just more exciting that way.
The Porsches still had low-end grunt, it was just more fun to be higher in the rev range. The S2000, on the other hand, feels like an anemic 90s Civic at low RPM and so it's mandatory to keep the revs up to not feel like the shittiest turd you've ever driven in your life (thanks, 2.0 liter displacement).
Its crazy how this car could've been had for today's S2000 prices about 5 years ago
And that the truth. When I first bought my 2002 S2000 back in 2012, I started autocrossing it to get a feel for its full potential. I used to see several and never thought much of it other than it had the aero kit and no soft top. it still amazes me how rare the CR actually is.
