Honestly got me kinda emotional, even being a white guy from the South, just due to being such a fan of the art coming out of the city. The hate that comes through in so many rappers' lyrics directed towards rival sets is palpable for anyone that hears it, so to see all that blue and red mixed up on the stage was cathartic as hell.

I believe by the end of the summer it isn't going to be just about unifying West Coast. It's going to be about healing half a century of beefs and coming together as a whole culture. Kendrick brought me back to the culture I left in 1989. There are a lot of people i know who grew up on Hip Hop, that left to join other communities being welcomed back without judgment. During the East Coast/West Coast split, it just lost the celebration factor for me. This has healed more than just LA.

I still enjoy the music itself and the actors in roles, but I never formed a habit of wanting to know personal details. I kinda needed to learn technical stuff for work, so my attention is simply always on that aspect of production. Freedom.from industry telling us what is hip hop, drake is rapper , he is not hip hop,
It doesn't mean he isn't black or bi racial. It just re clarifies that hip hop was born our of the struggle of the hood the region as this blogger states it was akin to hymns and old gospel song slave song in the fields while in bandage.
This was also a battle cry or a calk to war of this age of supposed hip hop where industry only allows one type of rap gangster and this trash type female rapper that only raps about money sex and disgusting lyrics..
Kendrick showed us what we hunger for in music 🎶 with streaming and hood shows the tight grip of slavery the record ex has had according to Joe budden might be ending

I'm not a hip hop listener. I fully admit. But I got the message as soon as the info was released. It's about who you are. Not just where you're from (transplants exist). There's some...thing coded into you that makes it all feel whole. I love that this was a holiday to embrace culture.
Growing up in Atlanta, rappers like Luda would come on and I'd enjoy it while acknowledging that my pasty behind was from the suburbs. But if you listen to the world around you, not just music but just people out in public, you can understand the point in defining spaces. Atlanta music ain't gonna be like Houston, NOLA, or Tennessee. Very different histories, styles, and tip off points.

I'm unfamiliar with rap concerts but the way you explained this to me make me understand it *better* (I mean I am pretty familiar with Kendrick v Drake atp, I am otherwise just that clueless about rap/hip hop 🥲🙃).
So great to see Kendrick on top form 🔥🔥🔥

Same, kinda - I enjoy the music but am just learning about the culture around it. I knew enough to know that the concert was a BFD but not enough to really get the whole significance. I love the way Zaid explains the symbolism and the history that gives context to those of us who respect the culture but aren't in it. I hadn't seen the pic so when he showed that part, it made me well up a bit - big Tupac energy 💜

I knew that diss track was gonna be a uniting umbrella for the whole weat coast when i was at a baseball game in San Diego and one of the players walked out to it. Like we’re not even in LA but still had to get invested. And yes. A significant portion of the crowd was singing along.

I thought the way Kendrick brought the gangs/sets together was amazing. The visuals of it being black/white on the screen versus the colors on the stage was a power move. It was incredibly creative. I thought every West Coast performance was fantastic and beautifully done. I’m 44… it’s been a long time since I’ve seen all of their talent in such large numbers in one venue. Great breakdown.
