- Faced with an opportunity to finish off a Toronto Maple Leafs team playing without Auston Matthews, the Boston Bruins were MIA to begin Game 5 and just couldn't get it together in an eventual OT loss.
Jim Montgomery is rightfully facing criticism for a couple lineup changes, but this game was lost because Boston's best players were not very good at all, aside from Jeremy Swayman.
Now, there's renewed hope in Toronto and seeds of doubt planted in Boston, even though the Bruins still have a 75% chance of advancing (per Moneypuck).
Can they regroup and get back to how they played in Toronto? Will David Pastrnak finally break out? Is it Linus Ullmark's turn in net.

I’ve had 0 confidence in this team all year. They are not as good as their points would suggest. They laid down the last 2 games of the regular season just to play Toronto in my opinion. They play when they want to and take whole games off and periods off whenever they feel like it. Bruins fan for 50 years but if they lose, frankly I don’t care at this point🐻

this is how they play on purpose. It was only 1-1 after shit opening g period. 2cd period is where you come out flying. ATTACK them.
So in the 3rd and OT, they finally and the goalie is getting lucky and the Bruins are whiffing on shots and hitting posts.
I mean Heiden scores on that mess up, Marchand omg! Whiffs on an open net...Coyle hit the inside of the post, and tge other guy boquist for got how to shoot on the fly, instead he catches the puck and hesitates?????

I was so ticked off after that 2 shot 1st period that I shut the game off and played some playstation and then went to bed absolutely convinced I would be waking up to yet another game 5 choke job. I dont know what it is but I have no confidence in this team playing in OT. Seeing that they lost game 5 in the 1st 5 minutes of OT was the least surprising thing in the world to me. Just look at Florida the other night in the same position, up 3-1 in the series and as soon as the puck dropped for game 5 they smothered Tampa from beginning to end giving them no hope whatsoever unlike the Bruins who pissed down their leg and couldnt muster barely a shot on a mediocre cold backup goalie. It pains me to say this but the Bruins are a F'n gutless hockey team with no killer instinct whatsoever.

Do Bruins fans actually think the leafs might win? The leafs do not beat Boston in a series. That just doesn’t happen and it won’t happen. The leafs losing to Boston is a constant reality that is forever ingrained in the very fibre of the NHL. Take it from a leafs fan. You guys will win the series no problem 🤣
In fact… the closer the leafs push this to game 7 the more indicative it is that the bruins will win. The leafs are very good at forcing game 7 to only get completely throttled afterwards.
