Man, injuries are on another level this season
worse every year seems like
Mfs is frail
Bc they practice/hit way less
@@BenAlfredo7you replied to the wrong comment bud
This yr has been the worst
As a Bay Area resident, I'm reminded of my sadness when you said this game was in Oakland. 😢😢😢
It’s because Josh Dobbs kept throwing everything high leaving everyone’s ribs open for obliteration. Saw it with Hockenson, Powell, Addison. Everyone. He sets everyone up for injury. This is Dobbs’ fault
It's what he does, seems like everyone but koc knows that
Agreed, Dobbs should be flung to the moon for this.
Those are hospital balls… Dobbs was putting his guys in danger.
Absolutely. 100% his fault.
Good old hospital balls.
Imagine how much happier I'd be if I was born in Missouri and became a chiefs fan and not Minnesota just to become a depressed Vikings fans
You don’t have to root for your home team, I live in VA and I’m a Packers fan lol
thats literally me bro
lol
@@JohnPaul-sh4tu Idk I'm from Texas born and raised but am a diehard LSU and New Orleans fan. The only Texas teams I'm a fan of are the Stars and Rangers.
@lofisfuneral3862 yeah I probably would've ended up a Packers fan too since I love Arod but I got into football the year the vikes made the conference championship and thought we'd be super bowl contenders for a while, guess I was wrong lmao
One of the hardest legal hits I've seen. 100% clean but man that was brutal.
He was a defenseless receiver. Explain again how it was clean?
@@DMBlade4 for it to have been a foul for unnecessary roughness against a defenseless receiver, the defender would have had to either lead with the crown of his helmet (no, he went shoulder first), he would've had to hit the receiver in the head or neck (no, he hit Jefferson in the chest), or he would've had to leave both his feet and jump/launch into the receiver. He didn't do that either. Like I said, totally clean - albeit brutal - hit.
@@tracyelsinger1088 You're wrong, sorry. Here is the ruling: A receiver attempting to catch a pass who has not had time to clearly become a runner. If the player is capable of avoiding or warding off the impending contact of an opponent, he is no longer a defenseless player. Obviously being defenseless has nothing to do with what the defender is doing and everything to do with the receiver.
Dobbs threw a hospital pass
@@DMBlade4Yes if we can’t watch a defender make a big hit on someone then they oughta not even have NFL.
Dobbs fired off a hospital ball.
The Jimmy J and Payton Manning special
What? You mean those big rubber balls they use in PhySical Therapy?
Small correction, the Raiders moved to Las Vegas from Oakland, but same point they can’t fly
Him grabbing his back like that made me think of a possible kidney issue.
Like he needs to be issued a new set of kidneys, stat.
Nah not even close. Just a rib injury.
The grabbing reminds me of a floating rib shot that can knock a boxer down. So that’s my guess as to why
JJ is one of the most most incredible talents at WR this league has ever seen. When he’s healthy and on his game(and ideally has a high level QB) he is a CHEAT CODE. Heal up soon ✈️ the NFL isn’t the same without you dude.
The NFL hasn't missed a beat in his absence. No one even talks about him except for Vikings fans and anyone who has him on their fantasy team.
He just another above average reciever
NFL is just fine without him lol

I really appreciate your in depth analysis on these injuries! I have gotten so much more educated directly because of you. Usually, we have to wait for the official report, and to be honest, sometimes they aren’t even factual. You tell it as you see it. I’m just here to say I really appreciate that!
Thank you Dr Brian we need a lot more of what you do !
I still associate the Raiders with Oakland, but they are in Las Vegas now lol. Your point about flying not being possible when the lung is injured was interesting and definitely something I didn't know before! Thanks for covering this injury!
Prayers up for JJettas 🙏
Love the channel! Thank you, cool stuff!
Why wouldn't you show the play at normal speed at least once lol
Copyright law. He doesn’t want to pay millions to play full speed stuff is my guess
That looks nasty. That's also a QBs job to recognize the coverage and not put his own teammates at risk.
No this is football. Shit happens
@@808bboarder Tom Brady would disagree with that considering he made a big deal about it in several interviews. So I'll take his word for it but thanks for your opinion anyways.
@@BasketballPownagethat's Brady though man. Man played so long he could see everything before it happened and he threw darts. Dobbs a career 3rd stringer that's been there for a few weeks. Can't really compare
@@db-hj9cubut he’s been a qb for a long time. Comes with the job. Doesn’t matter if he’s won a ton of rings or spot starting

KEEP COVERING THE VIKINGS. We love the content. Skol!
Bro just got back and now hes gone again. Get well jj
That was a literal hospital ball from Dobbs. I'm glad he got benched.
Dobbs will take that seriously, putting his guys in danger is not something he’s going to take lightly
Ignorant ill informed comment. Still feel this way after you've seen Mullens & Hall play? What's your opinion about the horrendous O-Line for the Vikings? Still Dobbs fault? Sickening how fans have treated him from "hero to zero". I hope & pray he get's to play this Sunday against the Lions. I really do & leads them to victory. After he takes off his helmet, I hope he turns around to all the fickle fans & gives them the middle finger. That goes for Cardinal fans too. I sincerely hope he gets picked up by the Titans & leaves the Vikings far behind.
Can you do one on CJ Stroud? He took a nasty hit and it looks like a concussion
It was probably Josh Dobbs fault. He get's blamed for everything. Yes, this is a joke but it's unbelievable the amount of expectation & blame that's consistently put on Dobbs.
I’ve had a “slow”pneumothorax, interestingly caused by an uncommon bacterial infection a\at the very bottom of my right lung, that slowly ate its way through the lung. I have had a LOT of weird medical issues, and that was in the top 2 of the most painful things I’ve ever experienced. I feel for him, and hope he gets healthy soon.
[Just in case Dr. B actually scans these comments - I’m currently experiencing a C2-C3 auto fusion (also quite painful, BTW) after having multiple fusions of various vertebrae due to Ankylosing Spondylitis. I’d love to hear an expert’s explanation of how the body does this autofusing thing.]
Thanks for the great explanation of possible scenarios regarding this hit. I am guessing he gets shut down for the rest of the season.
This dude is soo fast with these haha

He traveled home with the team!
Prayers up for Justin Jefferson! :)
I see these comments often. Have a sincere question. Did you pray for Justin Jefferson? Did you actually pray?

Very thorough explanation. I will translate it into layman's terms- He got the crap knocked out of him.
There was a point in which he said that the Vikings were playing in Oakland, just saying that the game was in Las Vegas
Hey doc, could take a look at Ryan Strome's knee on knee collision with Kyle Connor from tonight's WPG/ANA NHL game? I didn't see any videos, at least originating from hockey, in your list of videos. I'm just curious about what the damage is, recovery, and stuff. There's a pretty clear clip of the collision online. 🙂ty🙂
Thanks for the video. You do great work.
Did you say Oakland? Are they playing a special game in Oakland because they were there for so long or are they in Las Vegas? Maybe I just heard "Oakland" because I'm old and followed the Raider throughout my childhood.
Oops meant Vegas haha. Raiders ya know
Yep, he said Oakland. With so many team moves over the last few years, it’s understandable.
No biggie I still catch myself saying San Diego Chargers
@@macmedic892 Absolutely! When I first heard "Oakland," it made perfect sense to me. I had to ask to be sure that I hadn't imagined the whole move to Las Vegas.
@@donnywilliamson5807 Yep, I'm with you.
Can you look into when Gardner Minshew got hit and staggered after the play. Looks like another instance where the spotter didn’t do his job.
CJ stroud, Justin Jefferson, Nico Collins, (injured)
Mike Evans, A St Brown, LaPorter, Swift,
mcmanus, steelers.....
Bad fantsy week. and also my hometown team lost horribly.
The clip didn't even have me thinking ribs, I was thinking kidney or liver.
I played football for years and one thing I never understood is why do you have to hit a player who is very obviously falling to the ground, you can just tag him down and it’s the same result
He's outstanding.
The catch he made against the bills last was ridiculous.
Even tho I'm not rooting for him he's great to watch.
Playing in Vegas* (not Oakland)
Hey any chance you cover the knee injury of Kyle Hamilton, Ravens? He’s not as well known but is one of the best DB in the league, and it was an interesting/confusing injury
Out of curiosity, why is a kidney injury not higher on your differential? Mainly due to how quickly he reached for his lateral low back
What type of hit/events cause hemothorax? Could you see that on a CXR?
Hope Jefferson is alright. If it’s not long term I hope he can play week 17. Jaire vs JJ is always fun :)
What happens if he doesn't lower a shoulder and just catches Jefferson? Can he run with Jefferson?
Latest update says he flew back with the team. What info might that give us about his status??
Makes me think X-rays at stadium were negative or inconclusive and as precaution they sent him to hospital to check for punctured lung or internal bleeding etc. and found nothing of note, allowing him to fly home. Sound plausible?
I once drove my motocross bike over a small cliff, and even though I had a chest protector, my 100kg bike managed to tear all my ribs from my spine and breastbone. Wow! that is so not fun, I had 8 compression fractures in t3,4,5,6 and 8, but it was the rib separations that hurt for much much longer.
Can you cover Herbert’s injury?
A very dressed color matching MD 😝
Btw u were spot on abt kyrie the other day….. bruised heel
It would be nice if you would show these plays in normal speed.
Interesting, I would of thought the floating ribs would be easier to break cool learned something new
I like this guy
This is what happens when you put a current reciever in an era where you got a safety that plays like his in the previous Era and STILL holding back.
I'm also curious how much a CT scanner costs and whether teams might have them in the stadium. For some reason, I think of a CT scanner as having a cost of maybe half a million dollars. That's a huge amount of money, but considering what the teams invest in the players, maybe a CT scanner is a good investment. They could also make the CT scanner available in a local emergency and get some good PR.
All 32 teams have an X-Ray machine at the facility. Cincinnati is the only team with a MRI machine though.
It might also come down more to the ability for the companies to produce CT machines. Like everything else, there's a supply/demand issue with parts coming in from China and such. The teams would likely rather give the machines to hospitals or even local clinics that need one rather than having them in the stadium to be used what once or twice a week on average for 20 weeks of the year? Probably not worth it.
@@CatWith-AHat Thanks! I'm impressed that you know that.
@@BasketballPownage That makes sense. Donating to a clinic or hospital right next to the stadium would make sense. Most of us who have routine CT scans aren't doing that on Sunday, Monday night, or Thursday night. The machine would probably be completely available during a game unless there had been an accident or something.
Between $295k on the low end and $2.1 Million on the high end.
Thanks, Dr. Sutterer for covering this injury. When this injury happened, fickle fans turned on Josh Dobbs & literally over night he went from "hero to zero" . First time I'd heard the term "hospital balls" with 100% of the blame put on Josh Dobbs. I actually thought "hospital balls" were the large rubber balls used in PT. Ha... Thankfully since this occurred, Kurt Warner from the NFL took some time to put together his own analysis of Dobbs which was favorable. I've never seen what's happening to Dobbs happen to anyone else in the NFL. No matter where he goes, he can never do enough. He always has to perform at 100%. I've never seen this high expectation for performance for any QB let alone a young man that literally walked into a program & lead the team to victory with only 3 days of being with the team. You'd think fans would show some appreciation. I guess that's what you get when you have people that are fickle arm chair QB's that most likely live their lives through a fantasy league. Love your channel Doc. You're appreciated. Josh Dobbs, you are also appreciated.
Those kinda bad passes are called ‘hospital balls’ for a reason…
Note to QB's . Don't force your receivers to go airborne across the middle for the ball . 😮
It’s gonna continue to happen wit KO’s play calling.
He flew back with the team which is a good sign.
😢😢😢 not my JJ.
The Raiders are in Las Vegas, just thought I should point that out.
Played in Vegas
This is terrible! Get well soon #18!
This is what Tom Brady was avoiding to do the entire time
Might be a lacerated kidney
Small note, Raiders in Vegas now Doc! Appreciate the quick work as always tho 🫡
5:40 - I also wish they stayed in Oakland...
Maybe they took him to the hospital to get an MRI. To make sure he can fly back to Minnesota.
All these injuries this year really put into perspective how tough those players were in the 2000s.
The level of athleticism has increased drastically.....
@@chef_steff it is crazy hearing comments like the one above about how older players were tougher. As if somehow sports science has worsened and making players weaker. As you said, athleticism has gone up and players are making more explosive plays than ever before, thus putting greater levels of force to and through their bodies.
“Tough” and stupid, these players are bigger faster and stronger but their tendons don’t get big when they do, that’s why so many players are injured the last couple seasons
@@chef_steffsure pal. Always a genz believing they are superior. How about Testosterone pal? Has that level increased or decreased? These modern primadonnas would get ate up by gen x players..
Yes. New age athletes complained about working hard and now they all are overpaid porcelain players
The Hospital Pass. Did Manning throw this?
Looks similar to what happened to Travis hunter
except JJ’s hit was clean
Doc, I think he just grabbed low because of the pads he was wearing didn’t allow his reach to hit the targeted area.
Marcus Epps is the biggest 190 lb man ive ever seen after this hit lol
It’s interesting to contrast the rules of rugby vs football, and the level,of injuries in both sports. Firstly there are no helmets or pads in rugby, so players can’t hit as hard as they would hurt themselves. The energy of most impacts is therefore much lower. Concussion is fairly rare in rugby, even though there is no head protection. Secondly, the rules of rugby are very much based around protecting the players. Especially more recent changes. Purists think that it has made the game “soft”, but it has greatly reduced injuries. “Big hits” basically don’t really exist in rugby any more. Tackling is now about stopping the other player without impact. Of course there are exceptions and people still get hurt, but overall the game seems much safer for players. The number of injuries in the NFL seems to have grown exponentially in the last few seasons. I don’t think the fans are going to accept it if this trend continues, the league will have to find a way to protect players better. To me football is more about the strategy and skill, rather than big hits, but I think I may be in the minority.
Definitely the minority. Big hits are part of the game. But reducing contact because you don't have pads is an interesting idea.
The doctor says the initial hit was to the upper chest 🧐 but my brain from watching the replay his Yelling "look the hit was to the upper back closer to the shoulder blade or the scapula"😅. Plus that would explain why he grabbed his back. A hit near the spine will radiate pain down or up because nerve pain suck.
Literally a hospital pass
Clean hit.
Hope it’s not to serious he is such a stud
Kidney shot?
That hospital ball sent Dobbs to 3rd string
Welcome to the Josh Dobbs experience
I'm afraid that's Justin Jefferson, not a hospital...
This is what Brady talked about.
Yikes, he’s reportedly out for the season as of 8pm EST. Understandable. He’ll be good to go next season at 100%.
Where does it say that?
Lol he was ruled out of the game, not the season.
I think this is what Brady was referring to in terms of mediocrity in QB play -- that was a clean hit per Rule 12, Section 2, Article 9. So it's on the QB to place the ball where the receiver can be downed while avoiding big hits.
But there's much more than performance by a QB. Fickle fans screamed that they wanted Dobbs to be pulled for Mullens or Hall? Neither one of them have did any better. When Dobb's played, he was sacked 13 times. Since, Mullens & Hall have taken over they've been sacked 12 times for a total of 25. Seems like there's some problems with the O-line. How can any QB perform when they've got 4-5 250/300 pound men right in their face wanting to pound them into the ground. Have you seen Kurt Warner's analysis of Dobbs? It's worth the watch especially since it's from a professional.
Not a single player cares about fellow players.
There is no such thing as player safety because the players themselves dont care.
When the defensive players have a small window of where they can hit these things will just happen more unfortunately.
That is called a hospital pass, or at least that is what John Madden told me a couple thousands time while playing his game. Either the Culpepper, Vick or Vince Young verison.
Now, I know where the term came from. Is there a term for a crappy O-Line that allows their QB to be pressured resulting in 13 sacks? Yep, those big guys that can't protect their own QB? Just wondering... thanks!
I just moved to 90 miles east of KC. It's all Chiefs. But....no....still Vikes fan
Kidney?
Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson was taken to a hospital after being hit in the chest during Minnesota's game against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday, according to Fox Sports. The team announced Jefferson was ruled out for the rest of the game with a chest injury after the hit in the second quarter.

god damn i bet that hurt
I didn’t watch this game but does someone know if this play was flagged? I sure hope not, that’s textbook by the defender imo.
I was worried Dobbs murder balls would get JJ injured.
bruh wth
I don’t care what the rules say. That’s a brilliant play by the safety.
So that has to be intent to injure, better be a suspension
Dobbs out here throwing hospital passes😢. Vikings should trade up the draft for their QB of the future.
Hey Doc, do you think that players reduction in weight could be at fault for more injuries. ( for example I feel like in the early 2010s you would be hard pressed to find people under 200 and now I think there are a lot more ) ?
That hit is similar to the one that Brandon Marshall got when his lung collapsed. For how big he was that hit right to his back made him stop dead in his tracks just like JJ. Praying for the best fo JJ
