When I told my friend that the DoD owns the least amount of land of the federal land managers they were suprised, they knew that America has a massive military. And I simply said “with human made machines you can neatly pack them into hangars and warehouses. With forests and parks they are just big empty spaces of nature. The DoD is still the one with the most ‘power’ it just doesn’t have all the land”
Not necessarily the least, just the smallest amount of the top 5 departments that own and use federal land.
The government testing nukes in Nevada is like stealing somebody’s food and licking it so they can’t steal it back
Nevada are you sure you want this land that we’ve nuked dozens of times? You’re cool with me keeping it right? Cool thanks.
That's a perfect analogy
Most underrated comment
@Nunya Business Yes, but the testing was done on a tiny portion of it. Look at the map again. Nevadans were butting heads with an organization called BLM long before it was cool because it controls so much in the state. Whether it’s a farmer’s water rights being violated, a rancher just trying to let his cattle graze, or anyone being bothered by wild animals, BLM is always in somebody’s way. I don’t think most Nevadans would mind the state taking control of a bit of useless land (even if it meant a tax hike) if it meant that the feds weren’t there to make the parts that ARE useful (including land owned by individuals) a pain to use.
To be fair to the federal government, almost all of the state is practically uninhabitable anyways. It's just, a huge desert.

If there's ever any doubt about the Forest Service's mission, just note that it's in the Department of Agriculture. A National Forest is essentially a great big tree farm. And as such, those nearby can get a Christmas Tree for WAY less than you would spend at a Christmas Tree Farm. And by that I mean for a $10 permit you're allowed to take a tree any size up to 20 feet. You just have to be able to haul it yourself (and cut it down without killing yourself or anyone else).
Natural forests are great for legal bonsai poaching as well. 10 bucks for a legal tree, as old and weathered as you can find, all for a low flat rate.
Ah so that's why the federal government is inefficient and has so many legal loopholes.

Super vid! As a Westerner (Utah) I live in fear of the state obtaining ownership of federal land.
Although the Fed's administration is clunky at times, the various bureaus attempt to make rational decisions.
As things stands now great swaths of open land are available for recreation.
I'm pretty certain that the primary focus under state administration would be selling land in order to balance budgets. Once it's gone, it's gone. Ask Arizona about pressure to sell their State Trust Lands.
That’s why military bases have terrible housing. This explains everything
That's terrible. There ought to be federal regulations.
It cant be blamed on them alone, a long time ago they hired contractors to manage the housing, these contractors took the money that they were given, and immediately tried to us as little of it as possible and then charge as much for it as they can, the army is actually in a long legal battle with most of these companies to try and kick them and there money stealing butts off of the installation but they didn't make it easy for themselves back when this all started.
Technically the military has full authority to set standards for base housing which they do. They just suck because reasons. Though the newer barracks are nice as fuck though.

Happy new year!
Really?
Don't get used to it.

I love how you used Magic the Gathering land cards as a representation on actual land. 👍
I love how he included Wastes
@@brandong9145 they aren't even standard legal, what type of basic land isn't standard legal
Heiko Blady also tiles from settlers of catan
@@anna4aa570 the snow covered kind? :D
"Capital Swamp.
Sacrifice Capital Swamp: build a capital city"
Nice
I remember when a Ranger would occasionally stop by my very remote camp site. Nice guy. We got to know each other.
Haven't seen him in decades. Cutbacks.
He’s changing titles too
It's raining Grey videos. What is this madness!
Sorcery!
Think he must've gotten his new animator.
2 videos in 3 weeks constitutes grey video madness apparently
When you need to pay rent.
All jokes aside, I'm loving the massive upload.
*CGP Grey uploads a video*
*Me* "It's been 84 years"
It's been 3 weeks. That is a nanosecond in greytime
@@adamarato17 - he may have made a mistake, because now I'm expecting yet another in just a few weeks.
His little "close book, we'll talk about that later" gag may come back to bite him :P
Did this get renamed? I swear it was called Federal vs State Land at some point
Yeah, it did. For some reason, he went through and renamed seemingly all his visits, and I have no clue why.
@@lugialover09 It's for the algorithm. Titles like these attract more viewers.
Why is the video not called “What is federal land” anymore?
Ikr?
For clicks
The Magic The Gathering Land cards make me happy.
Did you see the Settlers of Catan land tiles?
Oh yes! :D
I was surprised that he had wastes in the binder. Does that mean that he still plays?
@@davec8385 From the sounds of his early podcasts with Brady (Of Periodic Table of Videos and Sixty Symbols fame), probably not. BUT, with WotC starting a new online MtG Game (Loading Ready Run has been playing it for a while), he may do that? The problem is, it doesn't sound the way his day is structured that he does a lot of recreational things. (The man works his stick figure fingers to the bone.)
@Jack Linde: the new online game is called magic the gathering arena. It is new and a good way to play standard but it does not include the set "Oath of the Gatewatch" which is currently the only mtg set to include wastes.
_2 CGP GREY VIDEOS IN A MONTH!?_
*we are a blessed people*
EDIT: The graphics are so much more expressive than they used to be and it's really cool.
we live in a society my friend
I thought this video was about federal land not just Nevada
6:57 I mean they are not wrong they live inside it, it's just not the land of the national park, they're surrounded by it
