@@Kro_NHL The whole point of that kind of play is to catch a team napping and get a scoring chance. They executed it flawlessly. Frankly I don't really blame the Leafs for the OT winner. that sort of thing just happens sometimes.
Now the game tying goal is another matter. The D pairing on the ice was putrid, Both of the mmanaged to screen Samsonov and neither of them was covering Brazeau who was there looking for rebounds. Brazeau is why Sammy couldn't hold the post and there was nobody on him. Both Dmen were in exactly the wrong place doing exactly the wrong thing.

  • @boneseyyl1060
    @boneseyyl1060 Před měsícem

Ok, goalie perspective here. Once that pass comes off the boards, Sammy knows Pasta is going to get to it first. He has already blown by Marner and the defence are just starting to realize what is going on. That right there means he either has to get to that puck before Pasta or he has to face him on basically a breakaway. It is a split second decision and I know which one I would have made. He had to go for it. At first I thought it might have been too far but on replay, he clearly had the time to reach that puck before the player got to it. By letting him get it and with Pasta cutting directly across the net he was in a bad position. You could see he was concerned with the 5 hole and closed up. Good move but Pasta didn't bite and by closing up the 5 hole he gave up the outside corner.
His best chance was get to the puck first. So not blaming him for the goal, that was a defensive breakdown all the way. But when you are the last man you have to step up and make the right play. Sammy seems to lack the confidence to do that a lot of the time. It's what separates the good ones from the great ones.

Bruins fan here. Its a designed play that Boston has been running for going on a decade now. Pasta and Marchy both get sprung for 1-on-1s and 1-on-0s out of that deep corner dump-pass multiple times a season. Boston *WANTS* the goalie to panic and get impatient on it. Samsonov knew what was developing (Toronto absolutely had to have tape of it), and knew that staying home and forcing the play to cross the goalmouth to force Pasta to change to the backhand and buy time for the backcheck (which did not come) was his best bet.

JT won't. Not with 1 year leaf and his family.
It would be stupid to try and move Nylander or Matthews.
Would be nice to move Rielly. Not that he's bad, although his playoffs this year was a shell of how he played last year.

Tavares depending on how a move is done isn't necessarily overpaid for any takers. The vast majority of that pay cheque comes from a signing bonus, so if the Leafs are willing to retain some of that this his base salary is under 1 million per season. So a team could pick that up if they wanted to at a more viable rate and not be overpaying too much. If a team waits till July 2 then his cap hit is just 910,000 since the rest is all bonuses. I am sure the Leafs would be willing to eat at least some of that in order to free up the rest. Maybe they eat 7 million to free up 4. Then overall Tavares is at least a little more manageable for a future suiter. It all depends how much of the bonus money the Leafs are willing to eat. He did still put up 65 points in the regular season.

It was a domino of missed assignments.
    1. Marner doesn't run a pick (doesn't call out for his dman that only the best bruin is coming in hot)
    2. Reilly way too far over to the middle for god knows why. Also clueless to pasta flying.
    3. Nylander on the other side chilling, call out what you see man... Your other 2 guys are sleeping or missing it, but from that view should see pasta flying.
    4. Samsonov is way to passive. But it's the 4th mistake. You're already fucked by now.
Oh yea. Side note. The powerplay was so bad, if they could only score a couple more there, they would have won the series before this ever happens. .

Samsonov was great that last game. There's NO WAY as a goalie you're going to "go out and get the puck" like the twits on TSN were saying. Like you said, a hard fast dump. He moved to where he *could*. That winning goal was close to being saved. If he saved that he'd be the hero, instead he's paying for the poor play of the core four (aside from Nylander, who seems to be the only on of the 4 with heart!)

I think you're right on the money on the first two thirds of the video but misses a bit on the scoring and the role of defense analysis.
A GOOD reliable defense does not only shut down the opponents offense like the Maple Leafs did pretty well most of the time (just not on that Pasta goal) it provides your team with much more quality pucks which this Leafs defense had struggled to do all series. Those top quality pucks have you gain a step, maybe even 2 or 3 when initiating your offense, which not only have you gain miliseconds or more on the defense reaction but also puts them in a state of more constant pressure.
And that's precisely what Kyle Dubas had spent 5 year to come up and build, albeit with key late additions at mid-point last season, but if you look closely most of those good rentals could have been extended at a very reasonable cost.
Treliving ruined that in less than 3 weeks on the job.
And it's not only that he replaced those guys with dubious other profiles (Reaves, Klingberg) it's that he replaced them to begin with.
With that much money allocated to only 4 guys, the Leafs are in a constant state of renewal, not allowing a true bond over time between offense and defense having the forwards only do the fireworks and the defense the fire extinguishing but no real connection between all of them. So whenever Matthews ain't at 100% there's way too little defensive efforts by the forwards and the other team just has to cut them off at mid line so the forwards are deprived of the best zone exits pucks and it makes it easier for said opponents defense to keep Marner & Nylander (& Knies and the other wingers) further away from the cage.

Many, including the guy talking here, are saying that Nylander had a good series. He was OK I guess and he scored 2 goals, one a lucky deflection and the other a wide open net on a nice Matthews feed. Maybe I’m missing something but I didn’t see anything special in his play. And OK, I agree, he only plaed 4 games and probably wasn’t at 100% for them. He did look pretty ‘floaty’ on Pasta’s winner though. I give him 65% overall.
    Guess

The Leafs can get rid of little Mitchie; tell his agent that he is going to sit for the entire season. His skates will not touch the ice once. Make him an 82 game healthy scratch. That will definitely get that NMC eliminated - no agent wants a client going into free agency after an entire year off. And who knows? His replacement might actually make an effort.

I know this is crazy talk, but the 4 players wearing Blue and White uniforms that just watched the puck come off the boards and back in front of the net and showed ZERO urgency in getting to it or covering a Bruins skater! You can't blame the goalie when his own team isn't putting in the work, it's playoff season, hustling to the puck should always be priority #1! A little more crazy talk or maybe a lot crazier talk is that Tyler Bertuzzi has played for both of these teams now, Boston last year at the trade deadline, Toronto this entire season. He seems to be PLAYOFF KRYPTONITE for whatever teams he's on... I like Bertuzzi, I'm A Red Wings fan and have watched him develop. He's a good solid player. Tough kid, plays hard all of the time. Asset to any team. Like I said, crazier talk...lol

You got W's on 2 games that Matthews was not on the ice ... Nylander stepped up as a top tier talent and got the job done.
I know this is not going to be a popular opinion - but... trade Matthews to the West and get some solid defense and picks back.

You need to ship 3 guys out: Tav, Mar, Mat or Nyl. Then you can build a roster for the plays offs for the 3 players you sold. This "core" is not going to win you anything. Even if you ship 2 guys out, those 2 that stay have loser energy in them. Build around Nylander. This is the same thing every team falls for. The Eric Lindros deal. They assume they can win a cup around super stars. More, those "super starts" are only on paper, on their paycheck to be exact. None of them are playing like starts, maybe 1 of them at best.

If I saw Pastrnak curling back towards his zone then passing to a defensemen, and then putting on the jets flying up the wing I would atleast give Pasta a shoulder nudge to take him off his stride at the least, how could you just let the most prolific goal scorer whiz by you(INSERT MITCHELL MARNER) and you not even give him a f%&^&&% nudge or something? From the start of that play, when I saw Pasta make that pass then curling and skating as fast as he can, I would have chased him around the damn rink IN OVERTIME!!!! TO DECIDE A SERIES!!!! and to (INSERT MORGAN REILLY) let Pasta of all players skate right past you to catch a bank pass and skate right in front of your net unmolested and score a doozy of a f$%#$% doozy of a goal..... so to the people that think Im just a keyboard couch player, I did play select hockey until I was 18.

They actually believed he would carry the cup himself to Toronto. How he left the Isles was nothing less than shameful and he is deserving of every boo and jeer each time he steps on the ice there. Spoiler Alert, the Leafs were Never built as a Playoff Team. As for Samsonov the Euro goalies never are aggressive and always play deep, so that’s what he/they are. The Leafs are Puck Possession team, which Isn’t the game in the playoffs. It’s the Cycle game in the playoffs which is big and gritty and the Leafs have none of that. In the end it’s Starts with Management, which has been the case for decades. So move Marner? That’s money in, money out, so which teams paying their #1 D man that amount and willing to get rid of him.
