Thank you so much for watching! xx - Jak na to + styl
Thanks for this, it seems not many photographers want to share this kind if in depth detail and it's something I have been struggling with for awhile.
Here I was thinking I had a good workflow... You opened my eyes to a much cleaner & more efficient way to do Post. This video is full of useful info. Thanks, Julia!
Wish my life was this organised haha. Very good video, thank you! 😀👌🏼
My files are organised but I didn't say anything about my life 😂😅
I feel like I randomly stumbled upon photography one day. I've been shooting and editing photos that I'm proud of ever since, but I have continuously struggled to have an efficient workflow. Its turned something that I once enjoyed into a chore. Overwhelming storage space issues, competitive deadlines, and slow downloads have seriously made me want to distance myself from it. However, this video is a step in the right direction for me. It's incredibly helpful and gives me hope that I can take my work to the next level. This is info every photographer needs to know, yet it is hard to come by! Thank you so much for taking the time and effort to share your expertise
LOVE THIS SIMPLISTIC AND SMART FILE MANAGEMENT!

Hi Julia! Love the video! I have been struggling lately keeping track of the files I import, edit, and deliver to clients. Mostly prioritizing which folders to edit first.

This tutorial was very helpful and your work is amazing #inspiration
Amazing video.. thank you 🙏🙏🙏
This is really helpful! Thank you! :)
I had never considered my workflow post shoot and was wondering if I was doing something wrong. I am apparently on the right track but have some great suggestions now for how to preview my photos (I was using Windows photo viewer and a legal pad to write down the ones I wanted to send to post. A bit tedious). Thanks for sharing! One of the things most don’t consider is what happens between the time when the camera goes in the bag and when the “photoshop stuff” happens. I am sure you have helped a lot of folks with this video.
Simple and easy to follow excellent thx
Incredible tips! I feel a little less stressed already. Lol 🤙🏻
this was so helpful, thank you so much! And I loved your preset that you used
Thank you!!
This was really helpful. honestly not so many of us wanna share this kind of information. Thankyou. That preset of yours though, ad love to use it on my images as well.
thanks for the detailed video
Thanks, you are really smart girl! Great and useful video
I loved it!!
Thank you 😄
I just had a friend use your video to make an infographic to help young creators! I now use this file system for all of my personal and professional work as well!
Can I get access to that infographic somehow?? Thanks!
Thank you so much for this video. It helped me a lot! I'm still new in the business and constantly learning helpful things. I'd be really interested in your pre-photoshoot routine! It would be awesome if you could make a video on this topic.
Thank you! I'm glad you liked it. That's an awesome suggestion, I would love to make a video about that! 💛
I found this so helpful
That’s good stuff Julia, thanks( Chris)
I love your accent ! It makes this tutorial a lot more calm and entertaining. Great information !
Thank you so much!
Julia, I always had Photoshop as my favorite. But I tried Lightroom last week because I had a bunch of pictures to edit and I thought it was going to be faster - and it really was. Then I also used Photoshop only to retouch this time and the final results really pleased me. Thanks for your tips!
Thank you! I'm so glad to hear that :)
@@juliatrotti thanks for this great video. is Photo Mechanic really that much faster for culling than using LR? so you keep all your current edit projects on the ssd 'working drive' and backup everything to the hard drive? do you keep the ssd working drive until it's full, then store it away?
@@juliatrotti can't you just import the 'select' folder into LR instead of having a separate 'Lightroom' folder? just curious as to why you need both folders
Finally I found a really good video 🥲
Thank youuuu!!! Very usefuul!!
I want to give more than just one thumbs up!!
1 - I have a very slow laptop and I am REEEAALLLYYY Strugling to select pictures. (after one morning of surf shooting, 650 pictures, I spent almost 3 hours selecting just because the pc was slow to change and load picture). I'll try adobe bridge for it now.
2 - My pictures folders is just a mess. It is difficult to find specific pictures. Loved how you organize. I'll be doing it now.
If you have any more ideas about optmizing workflow, please share!
Thanks for sharing, absolutely helpful! Wondering if you could do a video of a wedding behind the scenes or how you move about at a wedding during each part (ceremony, getting ready, reception) and even your camera settings/ lenses you typically use for those scenarios! I have wedding inquiries and a couple coming up this summer and could use some insight along with second shooting. Thanks!!
Thank you so much! I don't think I'll be able to make a behind the scenes video from a wedding like my typical photoshoots as I don't want to take anything away from the couple on their day! But I actually will have a bunch of wedding related videos and tutorials coming up really soon which I'm really excited to share :D
So good TIPS!@@ thank u soooo much
Thanks for the information. I might suggest looking into GoodSync to automate some of your workflow. I use to to copy newly added folders to both my external drive and NAS.
I like it, I have almost exactly the same routine after a shoot but I definitely think I'm going to try the idea about using separate catalogs.
Thank you! I used to put everything in the one catalogue when I first started as well, it ended up getting so confusing! Especially when your harddrive fills up and you have to start moving files.. eventually half the photos in the catalogue are "missing". Hope you enjoy the new method if you end up trying it :)
Awesome. Thanks for this video. Happened too many times where I lost whole shoots due to faulty computer.
Great Video! Thanks!
SPDTDL Thank you!
I’m about to jump in a high school year photo session because the photographer can’t make it. I am not a professional so learning this workflow is going to make it waaaaaay more easy for me. Thanks!
Hey Julia, very useful video, in process of implementing as fairly new to the whole file organisation (currently an absolute mess!). Any recommendations on SSD's or what hardware two you use for backup?
awesome thank you so much!!
Just finished my first wedding, thank you so much for this :)
Hello Julia, thanks for this very interesting insight. I understand the idea of one LR catalog per project to increase the speed of workflow but in this case you lose the ability to look through photos of different projects AT THE SAME TIME..eg if you want to look all "smiles", or "cars" or whatever tags you can insert in LR...When my catalog became too big I splitted it in a few smaller ones ( France including my family and social events, Asia etc...for example, I find it pleasant to be able to scroll among all my chinese pictures in one catalog. Of course everybody has to find the best way to sort his pictures and catalogs...just my 2 cents and congrats for all your videos and tips !
Thank you this video really saved my messy process 😂
This was a wonderful video and really highlighted that I've been doing things wrong for far too long. My intent was to purchase Lightroom and Bridge and have purchased a 4TB G-Drive and 2 8TB G-Drives for Edit Phase and Archive phase respectively. Now I have a 'Photos' library (44K photos (15K unedited)) that I need to somehow organize and storage off of the iMac. Any advice from my current situation is greatly appreciated! Also, love the presets, I'll be in touch on those once organized! :)
Hi Julia! Thanks so much for this video. As I’ve said in several of my other comments, you’re truly amazing and such a great and organized teacher. You’re my favorite You Tube photographer along with Joe Edelman. This video is an answer to so many prayers for those who need to be taken by the hand (as I do) and walked through all of these different steps. I admire how computer savvy you are and how you can make what seems sometimes as daunting to where it now can be understood, or at least way more than before.
Thank you so much, I really appreciate it!!
Great video, I have a very similar system on my iMac, but when scanning negatives I use my windows laptop and because I have a hard copy I don’t back it up from there until it’s edited. I really like the back to front date idea, that’s very clever.
Thank you! Glad you liked it :)
Hi Julia, thanks a lot for the video! Can you make a video about adobe bridge? how you sort them and edit later in photoshop? thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much for this video! Really helps me out. I still have a question though: do you keep your blurry or dark pictures? Do you erase them in your camera first, before importing? Thanks!
Your workflow is such an eye opener...
Many thanks for the tip of creating catalog for each photoshoot i/o importing all into 1 catalog.
My Lightroom is running so slow, I think this will be life changing! :D .. Ps. I really enjoy your vids
Thank you! Yeah I used to import everything into one catalogue as well.. when I started photographing weddings, I learnt really quickly that it wasn't going to work too well with thousands of images being added in every single week :D I hope this new method helps!
Hey! great video as usually! :) . One question, could you be compromising some future actions, like sharing files, or your folder directory engine, or something related with your OS and things that I don't have so much knowledge about, when you name folders with periods and special characters?
Thank you!
Super helpful!
Glad you liked it!
Your the best Julia! Do you shoot raw + jpeg or raw only? Do you ever run monthly specials on your presets that include Amalfi? That's my favorite. I really love the vintage look. Do these work with all LR versions?
Great tips
Wow! Super organised. You would probably faint if you saw my system.
Love from all over india 🌹🌷♥️ all the tips n tricks are very useful for me thank u so much
Really like what you're doing, you just got a new subscriber :)
Thank you so much!
This video really helped me, hopefully I can be more organised after it! What settings do you export your images at I couldn't really see properly, it would be a massive help to me, thanks!
Great video Julia, do you still use photo mechanic in 2022 for sorting through images or another program?
Thank you!
Amazing
hello! this video was super enlightening and helpful! do you delete the photos off the SD card or keep them there and constantly get new SD cards? also, do you delete any bad photos before backing up all the raw files from the shoot? thanks in advance 😊
While I don't do a lot of editing, I really appreciate your organization and plan to work on developing a similar organization for my photos. Thanks for your presentation!
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed watching :)
Julia Trotti you're very welcome!
Very useful thanks Julia! I like the look of your SSD, can you tell me the make? Also as this video is a couple years old is your workflow the same and would you ever use cloud storage as an option? 😺
Hey Julia, thank you so much for that load of information. Really helpful! I have one question! How do you connect so many harddrives to your iMac? If you use an USB-hub, would you mind sharing which one, and how the speed is? Thank you so much, and greetings from Vienna! Thomas
I loved this! Thank you! I was wondering if you could make a video on how you archive your lightroom catalog? I see you created a new catalog but didn't show how you archived it into that folder and deleted that from your lightroom and computer? Thank you!
Thank you! The Lightroom catalogue gets archived when the rest of the folders move to my NAS when I don’t need them anymore. Once they’re not on the original HD anymore, it won’t pop up in your recents Lightroom list.
