In this video we take an old school single stack 45 ACP we found at Moss Pawn and Guns out to play. The older "P" Series from Ruger represent a very good value today on the used market for a reliable and rugged handgun. Stay tuned, much more on the way.

Back in 1993 I was working as an engineer designing commercial door locks. Ruger was supplying the investment castings I was using so I made a trip to their factory to review their processes. While I was there they took me to their "scratch and dent" store where I purchased a Mark II .22, and SP101 .357 and a P90. My host at Ruger took the guns to their custome shop to "clean them up" for me. The gunsmith went over them and gave them each a trigger job so they're extra smooth. My only regret was not buying more guns. The next year Ruger won a giant bid to make mini 14's for the government of India and they no longer had the capacity to make our investment castings. I now own "better guns" but if the house was on fire I grab my Rugers first. I love my P90.
Ruger p series guns may be amongst the most underrated pistols of all time
Ruger P 85 was my first 9mm The price was affordable and a chunky -ass pistol that was a great shooter! I now own 3 P series a slimmer P -95 and my favorite a P -90 that I bought used which was in great condition with case extra mags and a really nice Don Hume leather holster which really makes the !ook of my pistol .
They absolutely are. Thank you for you observance.
That's why I have 2 P90's, P 89, P95, P345, and a P94.
@@JO-ly3hi Killer collection.
@@evin98 P90 is a tack driver!
Desperado with Antonio Banderas is the first and only thing that comes to mind with this pistol. Favorite movie of all time and this pistol was such an integral part of it. Love it!
True lies
Movie was bad ass!!! Antonio Banderas rocked those p90's!!
Ours was the first Police Department in S.C. to adopt the P90 for duty/off duty (which was a rare thing to do with the pistol but some of us did) carry. We were also the first department to actually conduct in house testing of more than one pistol at the same time and with more than one type/manufacturer of ammo. In the end the ONLY semi-auto we tested that could hang with the P90 was our "control" pistol.....A bone stock, GI model, 1911A1. Our little department (only fourteen Officers counting the Chief on a good day) fired many hundreds of rounds through our P90s without a single malfunction that I was ever made aware of and the pistols were all in very good to excellent condition when a new Chief and Firearms Instructor came along and decided we needed "new and improved" pistols which lead to the adaptation of the Sig P220 also in .45ACP. Did I mention we were also the first department to make the .45ACP our standard duty cartridge despite initial derision from other departments and state agencies? One other thing....And no insult intended....At the time we were investigating converting from revolvers to semi-automatics the state required that ALL LEOs had to qualify at ranges from as close as "contact" out to (a measured) fifty yards from standing Weaver/Modified Weaver, kneeling (left and right knee), strong and weak hand , from behind barriers (strong and weak hands), and prone. The P90s were amazingly accurate even in the hands of Officers with very little if any previous handgun experience at the longer ranges or handguns period! If I were to run up on a decent P90 and five or six magazines today I'd buy them and feel extremely well armed indeed.....After all, I felt that way with the P90 I purchased out of pocket all those years ago and included in the testing cycle as well as carried on duty for several years after the model and cartridge combination were adopted. Excellent video on a fine handgun that never got the credit or acceptance it deserved. Keep up the great work!
I've had my P90 for almost 23 years I carry it as my ccw all the time. It is still considered one of the most accurate out of the box pistols made.
I love this gun .
When you run out of ammo it makes a wonderful club .
😂😂😂
Yes, yes it does! lol
Exactly why I love it! 😂
I find your lack of ammo truly disturbing.
Truth! 😅
For those of you confused, we had an editing error on the first upload, so we had to pull the video down and re upload. Sorry for the confusion. We are dealing with remnants of Hurricane Irma at the moment, but uploads should continue as planned.
Iraqveteran8888 No problem it's a good reason to watch the video twice. Lol
As long as you guys are safe that's all we care about.
Iraqveteran8888 I literally just got done shooting mine before watching this
Shot a P89 this past weekend. Love it.
My P89 9mm and P90 45 Rock's, thanks for making the video!
first handgun I ever bought when I turned 21 because I was afraid of a all plastic glock haha. Still have it and love it.
Boz Boz the P95 was my first gun I bought when I turned 21. regretfully traded mine in
Boz Boz My first gun when I turned 21 was the P89 followed a 5 years later by a P94. Still have them both and love them both.
The first gun I ever bought / owned was this two tone p90. I was in Cali in the Navy. I regretfully sold mine during hard times. Best first gun ever!
Wow, my first at 21 was the two tone P90 as well. I still have it and take it to the range quite often. Beast of a gun!
Il take a polymer glock over this p90 junk
Love my P89. Simple, affordable, reliable. A gun that I don't mind taking it to the ends and back.
They're built like tanks! I bought mine from my dad after it went through a car wreck and skipped dozens of yards down the road. Two thousand rounds later it's covered in scratches but still works perfectly.
Love me some old school!
same. have my P97DC and wouldn't sell it for anything
Mrgunsngear Channel hg. ;
I want one so bad.
indeed
I've been a Ruger fan since 1985 when I bought a GP100 357...after that a p89. Then a p90.......I have NEVER had a misfire that wasn't ammo related....taking the gp100 to my grave.....love it that much
My father gifted me his P90-DC from 1993 (maybe 1994). It's one of my most appreciated possessions.
The very first handgun I bought, as soon as I turned 21, was the Ruger P345. It was an absolutely amazing handgun. I miss it.
A P90 was my first handgun, I bought it in 1992 and I still have it. It’s always been a good gun.
My dad bought a new P90 in 93, it's in mint condition with less than 200rds thru it and shoots great. He passed away and now I keep it in the original box with the paperwork, loaded with his old Black Talon ammo. Maybe one year I'll shoot it for old times sake
U guys are great! I've had my P90 since 92....never miss fired....ever! Keep'm cleaned and keeps me smiling!
That's about when I got mine, and it is indeed a tank. I had my first feed failure last week and only because I was burning through a few boxes of ancient wrapped in wax paper and twine vintage ammo. Very accurate and reliable.
My first gun was a P90. Bought it in 1992. The only gun I have never has any type of jam or mis-fired with. It's not perfect but it is ultimately reliable. Still the one I keep in my night stand.
The P series were indeed great pistols. Here in Las Vegas Nevada the P89, P95, and P95DC were very popular affordable 9mm pistols back in the late 1990s and early 2000s as self defense and security guard pistols. I called these the "Security Guard Special" since I sold so many of them to armed security guys and gals back then. These pistols are very reliable and shoot every brand of 9mm ammo to include reloads. I have never ever seen any of these get destroyed through normal use. I only saw 3 P95/DC models get destroyed, 2 by a house fire and the other got run over by a truck when the guys who bought them from me showed it to me.
5 minutes in, I want to stop and say my first pistol ( still own it today, 15,000 rounds later ) was a p89. bought new in 2005, I still love it. only problem I ever had was going 600-700 rounds without cleaning it, had failure to feed. cleaned up , ran like champ. other than that, I replaced 2 mags cuz I felt the springs were getting weak. recoil is slightly more than a cz75, but still less than polymer framed pistol out there today. keep up the good vids.
I have 2 P89DCs. Works like a hungry Irishman. Wolf springs for the mag. Clean it < 100 rounds.
The P90 45 was the second pistol I bought & I still love it. I've had it for 26 years & it's still in great condition. I also like how easy it is to break down to clean.
I've been taking my daughter to the range with me since she was young & she was a little intimidated bc of the size, but with a little coaching I finally got her to shoot it.
Once she shot it, she was hooked. She could handle the recoil & loved how light the trigger pull was. She started off shooting my .38 Special, but found out the P90 was much easier to shoot bc of the light trigger pull. Now she hates my .38 special LOL . . .
I ended up getting her a Springfield XD 9mm for her 1st gun. I chose it bc of the safety features. Great video & keep up the good work.
P85, P85 MkII, P89, P90, P91, P93, P94, P944, P95, P97....no they did not make a 357Sig... I still love (and shoot very well) my P89!
glockensig Don't forget the P345 too.
Right! That too!
texascoaster 92 Have you looked online?
The P90 was the first handgun I purchased when I turned 21. I carried it daily for over 20 years, still have it but have retired it for a more concealable daily carry. Never had an issue with my P90.
That exact pistol has been my EDC for years now. She has never let me down. Thank you so much for putting that video out.
I have a p90 and two Smith 5906.
Love those old tanks.
My father carried a P85 as an officer for years until his small police department made everyone change to Glock 22's, which was hated by most of them. LoL.!
Outsider 503 *carries the gun mentioned in a back concealed holster instead of extra mag! Lol!
x0xCRUSHERx0x
Might just work. Glock for show, Ruger for when it counts. LoL.!
Outsider 503 big bullets for starters and bigger ones if the job isn't finished by then!
x0xCRUSHERx0x
LoL.! Nah, his P85 was a 9, but more accurate than his Glock .40.
I saw a P89 on an officer about a month ago. Thought that was pretty cool.
My first, never choked, runs in filth, holds enough ammo to finish the job. Nice to see it on TV...
purchased my P90 in 1999 and it has never failed me. I have 20 guns and this has been my bed gun since then.
Hi Eric and Chad. Love your videos, keep up the good work. I bought my P90D (decock only) around '95. Used it as a daily carry on the ranch for YEARS, never skipped a beat. Shot countless armadillos and coyotes with it from horseback. Just a tank. About 3 years ago the magazine release button spring went south. Sent it to Ruger, they replaced the spring and completely went through it for $30. I'll never get rid of this one. It has my grandsons name on it. VietVet69.
The sound effects of those P series rugers is like no other. You can literally hear the cycling of the gun as it shoots and also mag reloads sound just as loud as the movies.
These are loved in the hood. Harsh times
Good light hearted video .
Two of my favorite guys on CZcams .
My dad bought his p89dc in 95. Still has it n loves it. He passed it on to me. Thing is awesome. They dony make guns like they used to
I got P89 for my first gun and polished it I would never would trade her for even a Glock! I love the P series! Thanks for uploading man I've thought I never see this day
I love my P90DC in stainless. Once I ditched those slippery plastic panels off and replaced with a Hogue it became my baby. It's my fave 45 and I wouldn't want it gram lighter in that caliber as a HDG. It eats everything still looks good doing it.
I had a P-85 back in the day and still have my P-90 and one of my favorites. Thanks for the video. Keep up the awesome content.
this is great you made a video on the ruger p90. my dad gave me his when I turned 21 as a gift. back in the day when he got it, I remember as a kid always wanting to shoot it. it's a chunky pistol, but I love the trigger. the softest shooting .45 I've ever shot. just a damn good built pistol.
Thank you guys for doing this video. I have a Ruger P-95 as my CCW and I love it. You were very accurate on how they will start to surface rust quite quickly. The slide on mine started to get some surface rust and now I oil it down every night when I put it away and it has stopped rusting for the most part. Does not affect they way it operates just is there and I can see it a little bit and it's more annoying that anything else. Thank you guys again for a great video and for what you guys do.
I own a p95. It was my first pistol I ever bought and I love it. It has had a lot of ammo through it and never had a malfunction or any type of issue.
I've had mine for about 25 years, love the way it shoots and breaks down
Heh I have a P95, the thing is a tank of pistol. It eats any ammo you put in it, and functions well even when filthy. Trigger leaves a lot to be desired though. *:-)*
I kinda like the trigger. Mostly because I'm so use to it.
Yeah in single action it's as mushy as Feinstein's head. I've learned the reset point in mine though and just let off enough to reset the trigger so it's not so bad.
Oh, and don't forget those slick assed grips. :D
They're not hard to make the trigger pull and reset less. Polish down one half of the trigger sear, it worked for me. I have a little more take up because of it but it reduced the reset length and pull weight.
i had the P95DC, trigger became unreliable, wouldnt fire when trigger was pulled. Sold it and got a RIA 1911 tactical compact.
I have one as well threw a slip on rubber grip on it and got some mecgar 17 rd mags great gun
I have always enjoyed my Ruger P90DC and just recently bought some G10 Grips to replace the Pachmayr grips that were on it. I bought it used a few years ago for $260 OTD and it came with 3 mags. It has always been reliable. Great video on a nice bargain handgun. Stay Awesome Eric and Chad.
I wish that never stopped making them wish they would go back to making them maybe upgrade him a little bit but keep them away they are
Bobby Parker Obviously no pleasing you...
love those P models. I had a P89 and a P90 back in the late 90s and loved em both.
I have the P89, P90 and P95. Had them for over 25 yrs and my kids learned on them. Been hiding in the safe for the last 20.
My grandmother carried the p90 when she worked as a guard for GE. Works like a clock and i love the decocking feature.
Haven't even watched the video yet but the title has me so excited already. My dad has had a Ruger P90 for about 15-16ish years now. It's such a great gun! (Has is anything from Ruger) I love it.
I love my p90dc! Over two thousand rounds fired and it has never failed to fire, failed to extract or eject, every time I've pulled the trigger it fires. Any ammo, steel, brass, it eats it all. I have to pretend to have jams for training. It's the most reliable weapon I've owned. Sure, it's heavy and bulky. Makes a great melee weapon too, even more dangerous if you throw it with the slide locked open... it's a friggin four and a half pound shuriken! Great, great guns.
I still have my P90 and love it. Although I have moved on to Glock for every day carry now that I can afford them, all my Ruger pistols including my 89s and 94s I will never get rid of. Thank you for the video.
I have a P90 and P95DC. I love these pistols from Ruger. Another great video, man. Thanks!
I love my P95. My buddy got it for 350 new and then I bought it. It was his first pistol and then mine as well and it still runs great.
Great video!!!! Love my P94, my dad has a P89, love that gun too. It was the gun I learned how to shoot on....he also had a Tarus M9, what a piece of junk it would jam every other round, but that P89 would run all day. My EDC is a Glock 19 that I trust my life with, but I always will have a special place in my heart for the Ruger P series.
I have a P89 and it's a sweet old gun. I know polymer is in now. I my heart have a real soft spot for an old all metal gun. Great video. Man keep em coming.
Love it! I've had my P85 for 30+ years now. Not going anywhere!
I have the P89 and P95 in my collection. Both blued. I carried a P89 in both my armored car work in the late 90's, and when I worked for the Federal Bureau of Prisons in the early 2000's...DAO (before they switched to Beretta). Awesome guns!
My dad had one of these and I inherited it. Heavy and bulky but very accurate. I also own a P94 in .40 S&W and its magazines are compatible with the Police Carbine.
I have had this 45 for 6 years and love it.
I have owned several P89 9mm handguns over the year and I have always gone back to them because they don't care what ammo you put through it and they shoot well. The trigger takes getting used to but I love it and will always have at least one around the house.
Have had mine since the early 1990's. Still the one that I rely on the most to never fail.
Bought the P85 when it came out and love it. They are bulletproof and never fail.
A P-89 DC was one of my favorites, Its still in the family, my sister has it now. Terrible double action trigger, but like any gun if you train enough with it, you will get the hang of it. I don't remember it ever malfunctioning.
I had that exact gun with hogue slip on grip..it was my first large caliber pistol and I never had one malfunction ever...I never cleaned it properly and it made a great truck gun! Shot a few deer with 230gr Hydra shocks and it made me a believer in 45acp for sure!! They are tough as nails and work when ya need it..
My first handgun was a KP90 in .45ACP and I do dearly miss it. It felt like a brick in the hand until I found Hogue rubber grips, which fit me perfectly. The thing was so big and heavy that even with hot, +P ammo, to me it felt like it had less recoil than most 9mms. Damnit, now I'm going to have to find another one! Never, ever sell a good gun! It took me way too much time and money to learn that lesson.
The P85 is the first reliable pistol I ever owned, I got it new when it was first introduced and have taken it as a sidearm every time I go to the range. Love it. In all of these years I only remember one malfunction and it was due to bad ammo.
Love these old handguns my first one was a p85 I inherited from my uncle still have it runs like a top
Bought a p89 a year ago after watching this review originally absolutely my favorite gun I have even concealed carried it I love taking it to the range to other than the fat grip I've had no problems
I love my P90DC had it for years and still shoots great 👍
My first auto loader, P89 DC, still have it, and still love it! thing is built like a tank!
Definately one of Rugers best .45 autos. It pisses me off that they actually stopped making them. I had a P97 at one time but traded it though. It was reliable and tough as well. Thanks for showing this great pistol some attention even though I am a die hard 1911 guy. I was actually thinking of getting one of these sometime but I guess not now since they stopped making them.
P94 owner here! Bought it new over 15 years ago. It has less than 200 rounds through it!
I bought my Ruger P90 new in 1992. At that time, I had a subscription to Guns & Ammo who did a 10,000 round torture test with a SW, Glock & the Ruger P90. Due to their results I bought the Ruger. It has been flawless. It will eat anything you feed it without failure. It is a rock-solid gun. It is big and is cumbersome to CCW in the summer but I love it.
P90 was my first gun ever 20 years ago. I still have it and never plan to get rid of it. Never jammed with thousands of rounds through it. It's a beast throwing 230 grain lead accurately at things. I would hate to be on the wrong end of one.
30 years my son has had one and it's never not fired. Hogue grips and tritium sights. Nice
Ran across this video and it brings back memories. Ruger P90 was first .45 ACP. For me it was sweet.
I have a Ruger P90DC that is about 40 years old. Still looks brand new. Nothing but steel for the bolt/slide and the handle is ballistic ceramic. So solid i may say i would rather use it as a club than a gun... and the sights would still be great after i did so...
Your Ruger p90 video was awesome. Cut my teeth on one way back in the day. Keep up the good work
The first gun I ever bought was a Ruger P91DC. I picked it up for a great deal (for a college student) and in really good shape. It's definitely bulky, but it's a really stable shooting platform and very reliable. Great video!
Thanks, I still have my P90. I put a 13 pounds Wolff spring in mine recently because I carry +P in mine. Bought mine as soon as they hit the shelf.
I absolutely love seeing y'all having fun. Shooting sports are supposed to be fun. I know that we all get caught up with getting the best accuracy and consistency from time to time but jst going out n hosing it is just as fun.
The first gun I ever bought was a Ruger series p 93 DC which I still own and carry from time to time and love it
I carried the Ruger P97 DC when I was a Bail Enforcement Agent. I loved it and I want another one. I started carrying a 1911 before I got deployed to F.O.B. Kalsu with the 155th Brigade combat team formally known as the 155th SAB Heavy (separate armor brigade). I was a T.O.C. (Tactical Operation Center) RAT.
Those Ruger P series are worth Twice as much as they costs.
Love learning about some of these less prominent but great pistols! Thanks!
I've got a P89, 9mm version of this gun. It's probably had about 3 or 4k rounds thru it (maybe 300-350 from me), but aside from some outside wear the thing looks and works like it's brand new. Came with two 15rd mags. These pistols were designed for military use and it shows, and so far it's been unstoppable. Either the factory or the previous owner got the sights dialed in tight, she's a sharpshooter and just fun to shoot.
ive had one of these and they shoot fantastic i miss it all the time
I've got a P-89 that has never given any problems. I know alot of folks who turn their noses up at them but you can't argue with something that works. Great vid guys!!
Favorite of my collection. Thankyou! Love, Johnpaul. ❤
I've got a P85 MkII 9mm and a P90 .45ACP, love them both. True shooters guns, you can feed them anything and they'll shoot all day. My P90 is my EDC pistol. I did have to change the grips on both though, but a set of Hogue grips was all of $19 and made them entirely new guns to shoot.
WonderNines! and 45's I guess, lol. My dad's first auto pistol, Ruger p85 mk1. Still have it. Still works like a champ. Old guns have character.
Never shot a p90 but the p95 was my first pistol ever and I still have it to this day! Love my Rugers!
Holy crap a review of the Ruger P90, which are almost non existent on CZcams. I've had my P90 for years and it is a solid pistol. I will never sell it.
I have a P89 and a P90 Love both guns. Purchased both around 15 years ago used, they have never failed me.
Love this channel. This dood is the real deal.
I still have my P90 9mm. over 20k rounds and I haven't replaced any parts yet.
Bought it new in the 90s. It never jams, same 15 round mags that came with it. lol
I haven't fired it in years, bed side is a Ruger GP100 and lots of Hounds....well the Hounds are outside. :-)
I have a P89, P90, and a P95. I'd take these over most DA/SA pistols. I don't think that they're any less of a gun than Sig, Beretta, etc. They're not not as slick, but they're accurate, super reliable, and can really take a beating. Their polymer on the P95 is so tough that they didn't even use metal rails on its frame! That's Ruger! Great video!
249 new at gun show years ago fir my p95. Used it for my first chp test
I bought one in 1994 as my first law enforcement gun. In the twelve years I used it it never failed or malfunctioned. I only stopped carrying it because my new department made me carry a Glock 20. I always joked if I ran out of ammo I could always hit them with it.
You are right, the P series are great guns. I've got a KP89, dual-stack 9mm with stainless slide and barrel, and a P345 with stainless slide and barrel. No rust problem with stainless.
Mine still runs perfect. Bought in 91!!
My of my first BB-gun replecas i ever had as a kid. Thought about this since years, still a beauty of a pistol.
First semi auto I ever purchased. Called it my 'Cadillac' because it was such a pleasure to shoot. Wishing I still had it!
Thanx for the video. I recently got a P85 MKII for next to nothing ($200 OTD) and I really like it. My cousin's hubby got a P90 for home defense back in '92 due to the L.A. riots spilling over into Pasadena. He hasn't shot the thing in about 25 years, and I've been trying for almost that long to get it from him. The gun was an impulse buy and he later told me that the .45 round was too uncomfortable for him and his wife. I almost have him convinced turn his P90 over to me and get a 9mm, so wish me luck.
The P series guns also found their way into a lot of LEO and private security holsters so guys just starting out who had to purchase pistols privately
