Here he not only shows off drawing from the roughest concept sketch to exquisitely detailed finished illustrations, but the array of costumes he dons for photo reference. #KokouNoHito

My respect for Shinichi Sakamoto just went off the chart after this answer.
As an art student, I realized you are actually never taught about the art itself. They basically just brush-up your skill by teaching you tips and trick and drill you until you become better than your first year (which means you already had the basic drawing skills). So, in a way, there is no artist that doesn't self-taught to begin with. It begins from yourself. The progress itself comes from you.

I've been a fan of Urasawa since monster and 20th century boys and I've been reading innocent by Sakamato so this is like heaven for me thank you for putting this up with subtitles ♡

I saw DRCL announced and looked up s preview and was blown away. Pre-ordered immediately. Showed it to my so who also immediately pre-ordered. First book came in couple of weeks ago. Amazing stuff.
This is a great video, so fascinating, I love his work and I think that he is truly an important artist that will touch and inspire many lives!

@@rasheikbeal9367 Yes, typically Japan is going to digest and interpret classic Western literature much differently. Plus they are making a conscious effort to tailor it to Japanese readers. So where Western artists might be overly respectful and loyal to the source material, mangaka may use it solely as a springboard but then do something that is almost unrecognizable from the source.
Dracula in the thumbnail is certainly emanating "Thriller" vibes.

I'm not that worried about it. I'll be dead, and before then we can still always make organic art for ourselves. But only last year I read that AI was not even close to being able to create poetry or paintings that approached human art. But already in 2024 just a few months later the first AI novel was released and The New York Times reluctantly wrote that is was competent. I believe a Japanese writer also fully illustrated his manga using AI. The famous art tablet Wacom actually used a badly drawn dragon made by AI in a new ad campaign which is a terrible idea for a product that sells itself to human artists. In the American presidential race, Trump's party has already used AI voice impersonations of the current president to discourage voters. I'm not being pessimistic, only realistic. AI can learn and advance infinitely faster than any human mind and it is progressing rapidly. If it uses composites of the imaginings of a million or a billion human beings, how can that not be something original? Or something we cannot differentiate from an actual human imagination. I think we are being very shortsighted in not understanding how rapidly this is advancing. I think the implications are beyond what we can even imagine. Because after all, we are only human.

Thanks for the advice. The fact of the matter is that the Copyright holder allows the video to be shown, otherwise it wouldn't even be visible. Secondly, my channel is not monetized and as you can see from the few other comments people have found it helpful and inspirational. Thirdly my goal was just to put hard-to-find videos of artists at the drawing board so comics and manga fans wouldn't have to search a thousand different channels in many different languages to see the process of great artists. Fourth, I credit the original source in the title "Urosawa's Manben S5E8." And finally, I am as we speak, writing a full commentary track for this video to discuss the content and add context and critique. At 49 minutes it requires a lot of commentary, but at that point I will mute the original audio (as much as I prefer it to my own), and add a full audio commentary, which I would say is much more substantial than "Reaction" videos where it's mostly just people laughing a long at films or just interjecting a few words throughout.

Unfortunately YT's new stricter policies regarding "Reused Content" were recently implemented to crack down on the multitude of parasite channels that create zero original content and profit by uploading the most popular TikTok vids and such. So I may have to delete this and reupload with an original audio commentary (losing ALL my views and watch time in the process). Either way, I appreciate your comment ;)
