    I came back to this review because as you might remember from a comments section I started racing a CRF450 Supermoto at Crail. And honestly I don't want any other style of bike anymore. I'm getting in contact with Saltire motorcycles to get a 701 for the road and hopefully at the end of July. Absolutely love this bike. Thank you for the great content Chops!

    • @spammachine
      @spammachine Před 7 lety

      It's fantastic. Nice and thin for filtering, and can blip away from traffic when needed. I mainly commute around Birmingham, and even there, there's lots of nice corners to have fun with... sensibly of course ;). I ACF50'd it over winter, but the downpipe is a looking a bit rusty at the front where most of the road grid hits it - everything else looks great though.

    Loads of 701s at Loomies on sunday. I think people are getting the message that they are more fun than sports bikes... at least on the road. Glad you are promoting the lanes. Our group ride the lanes all the time and never see another bike... they are all stuck in traffic on the A272!

      I do the same but I see so many people that dont seem to care, Its normally those same people who are the first to moan if something goes wrong. A few years ago I brought a brand new Ducati and on the way home it rained , I spent from 7 pm till 1 in the morning stripping it down and cleaning it

    • @airdoctor1251
      @airdoctor1251 Před 7 lety

      Unlike my nuda900R , my 701 I ride all season with it. Rain or no rain. Every week I take it for major cleaning. The nuda900r hates any rainy weather , steer bearing rusts up and many things are exposed to the elements of the street if it rains. I'm glad the 701 can take a beating tho :)

    • @wippy748s
      @wippy748s Před 7 lety

      fair play to you fella , Thats a sign of a good bike then , I have never had a Husky but I Just thought they would be a bit fragile when it came to use like that, I have always had bikes just for fun and always bought them new (until now) so I hated them being dirty. Ive now bought an old xf650 which for once I am not worried about getting dirty and plan to do some touring on.

    I'm so envious about anyone that can wheelie, I couldn't even do it on my bmx in the 80s and my mountain bike in the 90s, or even when I tried when taking my bike test in 94, though that was only a 125cg 🤪 great video, they all are that I've watched 👀 😊

  • @cribs4551
    @cribs4551 Před 7 lety

    Mine - Wobbly instrument lights: check, leaking oil from same place as you, check. A few others; stickers fell off wheels (don't care), drinks more oil than fuel (over exaggeration), sometimes won't start (F1 fault - throttle position sensor) seems to have fixed itself. Done 5500 miles, squeezing the life out of original tyres (agreed they are awesome!). All in all, I love this bike sooo much. Considering these things get thrown around I'm surprised that they don't fall apart. Testament to very good build quality. Anything else feels heavy and slow turning. I'd love to get my hands on a Husky FS 450 Supermoto for the weekend. But the 701 is the perfect blend for me!!!

    Just ordered fork seals and that counter shaft sprocket seal and o-ring myself for my 17 with just under 3k on. Seal looked fine when put on 15T but weeps still and no groove yet in spacer from the seal lip. Was leaking a lot, enough to drip on garage floor but washed and cleaned chain lube gunk and was better when changed the sprocket this weekend. Fork leaking pretty good, slower after using seal buddy but didn't stop. Fork seals are a expensive kit, double what they are on any bike I have replaced on yet. Fuel screen plugged up once and kept shutting off, cleaned and fine since but yeah its a fun bike but not Honda reliable IMO for a road machine. Do like the tires, they grip and soft tires that grip wear out faster so expected. Wish they made the throttle tube with less slop, feels like a child engineered it.

    • @LambChopRides

I haven’t ridden the 701 yet but I heard it’s a bit gutless stock, and you NEED to change the rear sprocket and maybe do an ECU tune .. which doesn’t help the higher price in any way. Any tips ? brilliant review.
    been thinking of getting the 2017, supermoto but not sure how it would handle motorways, day in day out.
    In the past, I've owned a Honda FMX650 and I know it's not a proper supermoto but I loved it. But wasn't the best bike for motorways. A head on wind would zap all the power.
    Can you tell, what yours is like for distance rides. I ask because my commute is about 40 minutes but once a month, I do a 2 hour journey to visit relatives. I've not found a bike yet. That can do the journal in one hit. Even breaking the journey half way. Still leaves a sore bum.
    I don't really want the expense and weight of an adventure bike.
    So when are you buying the Tuono or SDR1290? lol

      Clarence Cohen Google "trailtech" they make universal tacometers with a single wire pickup that simply wraps around the plug lead to detect spark. Nothing invasive just cable ties (zip ties) and a handlebar clamp. They do make full feature units for enduro with speed, time, clock, laptimer, tacho, temperature etc. Their temp pickups are either coolant hose inline, or a schweet k-type that attaches to a copper washer that your spark plug screws down on, between the plug and the head.

    • @airdoctor1251
      @airdoctor1251 Před 7 lety

      The 701 sm/E 2017 model has the updated better engine than the ktm690 smcr/E. The bike's stock rear suspension sucks for anyone above 80 kgs. If you plan to get it you will have to upgrade the rear shock spring from 69nm to 90 nm or more depending on what is available on rally-raidproducts. Basically the bike doesn't come full ready to ride for anyone.

    • @LambChopRides
      @LambChopRides  Před 7 lety

      +Air Doctor I disagree, I'm 110 KG and bike handles fine. Yes ideally I want a stiffer rear spring but still quick on track in stock form. I've not even increased the preload on the spring yet as you have to remove it. I would say go for it Mr Partridge 👍

    • @airdoctor1251
      @airdoctor1251 Před 7 lety

      Check the term "setting the sag". The stock rear spring is too soft for my 90 kgs weight(100 kgs with full gear) to be set correctly. If you already haven't set the sag on your bike then unfortunately you don't know exactly how much better your bike would feel in terms of handling. 69nm spring rate is made for standard weight riders which is between 70kg and 80 kgs.
      I have already dissected the rear end of my bike and was forced to over preload the spring to get a decent riding sag. Over pre loading is a sign that the spring is too soft. Which would end up making your rear end of the bike static sag way too much.
      Hope this clarification , helps you understand my point of view. Same thing with many* of the mods you have made , gear indicator etc. The spring has to be on your list also add to it the hydraulic preload adjuster to avoid dissecting the rear end of the bike every time you want to increase the preload ;)

    • @LambChopRides
      @LambChopRides  Před 7 lety

      +Air Doctor I get what your saying exactly and your right I do want to upgrade the shock. @bobbobbinson1841 Před 5 lety

      I don't have that bike but.... Just ask any chopper rider with no windscreen. It sucks balls... Your neck gets tired from being pushed from the wind. and the helmet buffeting is felt much more. Its totally do-able but it just sucks for longer rides. depending on your height/weight and what jacket you are wearing, you might feel like a parachute at high speeds too. I bought a taller windscreen for my hayabusa because my neck would actually be sore for a day or two.On short rides, who cares right?

      Have you ridden any one of them, if not do so because they are two completely different bikes. I have ridden the 701sm+Enduro and I have own a KTM 660smc and I can say that an supermoto is not anything that you want to have on a long journey. Maby you can compare the Enduro with the TE700 but my opinion is that the TE will work much better for longer adventures. Everything depends on what you want to do with the bike. My feeling of the 701E is that it feels very much on the road as a enduro bike. I had a exc300 anf they felt similar on tarmac
