- After covering the best cryomancers in fighting games some time ago, I think it’s time we warm up with the polar opposite element: fire. Pyromancers in fighting games are just as common as the ice users, if not more. Characters find all sorts of ways to fill the screen with fire and teach their opponents that they should have had a burn heal, if such an item existed in these games. Let’s see who the best pyromancers are in fighting games, with the one per series of origin rule in place.

So happy to see my favourite KOF, and by extension, fighting game character of all time make No.1 on the list.
Honestly, Kyo Kusanagi's '90s bad boy' and 'Shounen protag' aesthetics drew me into the character and made me admire him straight away. He has everything I love in a character: Stylish, badass, confident, boasting a fast yet powerful fighting style and of course, pyrokinetic abilities.

@@poweredbygarri1 Well, actually Ralf uses bombs to create those flame attacks, well, "explosive". Like the galactica phantom is basically a grenade exploding on his fist when it reaches the opponent.
Yukiko and the rest of the Investigation Team girls are known for not being able to cook well to the point the dish being called Mystery Food X in Persona 4.

Funny thing is, in the Fatal Fury continuity, Andy knows she is crazy for him, but he chooses to ignore that and focus on his martial arts training. Andy only sees Mai as a younger sister since they were both raised and trained by her grandfather who he has great respect towards. This is confirmed in Fatal Fury sources.
Say what you want about KOF14 and all but that is an alternate continuity and that was a retcon. Cuz Andy’s Fatal Fury status quo remained in the early KOF games until the timeline change in KOF13. But regardless, Andy never wanted to be with Mai cuz he just doesn’t see her as a lover but more as a sister. I mean Fatal Fury is Andy’s main story. Since that is where he originates from. Especially for Terry and Mai. In fact Garou: MOTW is more proof of that as Andy has been living in a cabin in the woods and then leaves and is no where to be seen. And the developer jokingly said Mai is probably still looking for him but is out of luck by this point. Meaning they never got together and it seems they never will in that series.
Mai is out of luck in the FF series and her crazy personality shows it. But in KOF: Destiny she got fed up with Andy and almost fell for Benimaru. No joke. Andy is more like Tien Shinhan from Dragon Ball. He is a devoted martial artist and wants to surpass his brother to this day. In Hokutomaru’s ending he says he will be his rival and even left to go on his own journey to fight again. Mostly to go find Terry and finally beat him (if he ever does).

Goro had an unspecified energy ball in the first game, so Kintaro was the first confirmed fire user of the Shokans in MK2. Goro eventually started using fire by MK4 when they combined his and Kintaro's movesets.

In Mortal Kombat 11, I gave Scorpion a green skin and the fireball, fire breath, and running move. I called it Dragon Reptile. A ball, run, and a vomit.
I forgot that Marvel vs. Capcom 3 did the character specific voice lines before Mortal Kombat. And I do mean voice lines, not quotes you read since Street Fighter 2.

As a guy I feel appalled that Mai is only number 8 :P
Seriously though I kinda think Dhalsim is too high up on the list; while I get why you put him there and I would probably agree his the best choice from "Street Fighter" games, the fact that his stretching limbs are what you first think hearing name kinda underlines his pyromancer attacks... I would imagine one of the criteria for the list would be how synonymus fire attacks where with the character and that's why Dhalsim just doesn't strike me as a high spot on such a list.

@@HeartAino193 oh yeah. The good captain has fire in nearly all of his moves. But he wasn't the only Smash pyromancer left behind.
So.. next is electricity? hmm Blanka, Benimaru, Raiden...
Scorpion is by far the most iconic on the list.
I first learned the term “pyromancer” from a very different kind of game: Bookworm Adventures. In that game, Dracula had an “army of darkitude” which consisted mostly of super cool armored undead skeletons with varying abilities - including a pyromancer. There was a skeletal necromancer earlier in the game and the Army had a cryomancer who could send drifting icy shards at you to make you bleed; but for reasons indiscernible, they called him/her a “frostmancer.”
You failed to mention Fire Emblem Roy from Super Smash Bros. His Up smash coats his sword in fire, his neutral special is a giant fireball, his side special has fire on it's neutral finishing hit, his up special is a flaming sword leap, his counter has fire incorporated into it, and his Final Smash is a giant fiery explosion in front of him. No shortage of fire here.

Here's an idea. What about a "top ten rivalries in fighting games" list?
I guess Tekken's characters who are closest to be on this list are True Ogre and Kunimitsu but both of them have like one fire move.
I thought about them, especially with how Ogre plays in Street Fighter X Tekken, but he didn't give me as much material to work with in terms of fire abilities compared to other potential entries. Still, good idea!
Tekken is more realistic we dont have characters in control of elements maybe except for mishima family they be going crazy with electrics but other tham that a more realistic fighters nd thats what i adore the most bout tekken

How about Phoenix from Marvel vs Capcom? She definitely uses fire in most of her attacks. When she turns into Dark Phoenix even her basic attacks turn into fiery projectiles
Top 10 2-in-1 character/tag team character/duo/trio/quintuple character in fighting game, excluding fighting game that uses tag team as their mechanic or (if you want) animal companion. You could have a honorable mention for character who their teammate that just show up in some of their move (i.e. R.Mika's partner, Peacock's gang, Robin's Chrom, etc)
It's like Kyo was designed to be the coolest character that's also hot.

Hard to beat a cosmic alien comprised of living flame but even with my Darkstalkers bias, I think Kyo deserves the top spot. Still, thanks for the Darkstalkers love!
I like this video!! Also Iori is pronounced Io-ri. The I is pronounced as an "e". Also I like how you put both K' and Iori in the honorable mentions. That's because Iori lost his flames in KOF XI and K' can only manipulate fire in his right hand but he can't control it so that's why he has a glove for it.

What? No mention of Phoenix from UMvC3? I saw the clip of her, and u mentioned Dormammu at one time, but no Pheonix? I see her as much fire-based as Dormammu and Ghost Rider.
The Honorable Mentions segment was getting very long, so I cut out a lot of series for the sake of time. Phoenix, Dorm and Firebrand were all going to get a sentence in it before I cut that part. Phoenix is actually my second favorite of the fire users in UMvC3, so I at least wanted to give her a silent shoutout in the intro. Dormammu mainly got a mention over the others for the joke about both their heads being on fire.

I've likely get to that one in the future. There are so many karate users, I would want to look into that one a lot to see if there are different styles that could make for different lists.

Yukiko is a name for a cryomancer because means snow girl, her name as a pyromancer should be Honoka or Homura, that means flame.
