  • This is the Hard Fish or Garfish Dance. This dance is the only one that is uniquely Chickasaw on both of the albums: Choctaw-Chickasaw Dance Songs Vol. I and II produced by Buster Ned and the Choctaw-Chickasaw Heritage Committee in the 1970s. Ned was a prolific leader in trying to maintain and restore many Choctaw and Chickasaw aspects of ceremonial life. The leader for this dance is Bienum Pickins. Unfortunately, I was only able to upload about half of this dance since scratches on the record have caused a lot of skipping.
The following is information on the back of the album by Buster Ned:
"The songs and dances of the Choctaws and Chickasaws have been handed down from generation to generation since the beginning of these Indian Tribes. The Choctaws singing these ancient songs for the album are from the Sixtown Clan (Okla Honili). The Chickasaws are from the generation of I. Hunter Pickens. These songs were sung at stomp dances and stickball games in the Oklahoma Counties of Marshall, Carter, and Bryan from 1890 to 1937 after removal of the Choctaws and Chickasaws from east of the Mississippi River to Indian Territory. In those early days there were many leaders in both Tribes for the singing and dancing. To name a few: Logan Parker, M.L. Scott, Joe Pickens, C.S. Tubbee, Jack Williams, Charley Lewis, Flex Johnson, Johnny Gilmore, John Sampson, and Billy Washington. There were two famous dance grounds in those days: Twin Ponds for the Chickasaws, and Yellow Hill for the Choctaws; and today, on a still summer night, I can hear in the air the lingering songs of those dances long ago. The Choctaw-Chickasaw Heritage Committee is reviving the ancient songs and dances. Some of the songs are in this album."

Halito! Although I am more than ecstatic to find this on CZcams, the singer of this song is Binum Pickens.... his name is spelled wrong. I am one of his granddaughters.

yakoke, we were good friends, we played football together and hunted together, I am so sad to hear this, Clayburn was a wise man beyond his years, he was one of the very few people I would have wished to see I dont get down there much, but the next time I do I will leave some tobacco for him, I bet the last time I saw him he was with you at a skating party years ago I hate to hear he has gone over, if I may ask did you burn a fire for him? His nickname in football was Rhino, because he put his head down and plowed through everything Is Jerome still alive?
