Choctaw-Chickasaw Snake Dance

- This is taken from the album: Choctaw-Chickasaw Dance Songs Vol. I produced by Buster Ned and Sweetland Productions in the 1970s. Ned was a prolific leader in trying to maintain and restore many Choctaw and Chickasaw aspects of ceremonial life. The leader for this dance is Adam Sampson.
The following is information on the back of the album by Buster Ned:
"The songs and dances of the Choctaws and Chickasaws have been handed down from generation to generation since the beginning of these Indian Tribes. The Choctaws singing these ancient songs for the album are from the Sixtown Clan (Okla Honili). The Chickasaws are from the generation of I. Hunter Pickens. These songs were sung at stomp dances and stickball games in the Oklahoma Counties of Marshall, Carter, and Bryan from 1890 to 1937 after removal of the Choctaws and Chickasaws from east of the Mississippi River to Indian Territory. In those early days there were many leaders in both Tribes for the singing and dancing. To name a few: Logan Parker, M.L. Scott, Joe Pickens, C.S. Tubbee, Jack Williams, Charley Lewis, Flex Johnson, Johnny Gilmore, John Sampson, and Billy Washington. There were two famous dance grounds in those days: Twin Ponds for the Chickasaws, and Yellow Hill for the Choctaws; and today, on a still summer night, I can hear in the air the lingering songs of those dances long ago. The Choctaw-Chickasaw Heritage Committee is reviving the ancient songs and dances. Some of the songs are in this album."
Thanks for posting. Our people need to realize that many of these songs were almost lost and it was a small group of people that kept these songs alive. We need to relearn what was ALMOST lost and thank the traditional families and individuals that kept the culture alive. My Chahta family is from around Blue/Bokchito. Take care Nita Nokose. Yakoke!
My family hid our history to keep from other's when they were younger, I have been on a quest to learn more about my ancestors. Have zero shame knowing my ancestors were First Nation.

(I still don't. Lol.) But you made "The snake dance" my favorite. Because you guided me to understand my fears. And by being one with them. They have no power over me. Thank you my spirit guide. Does anyone know what the lyrics translate to in English? My son is making a presentation on it for school.
The lyrics aren't in any language on earth. Aba' Binni'li' (the creator) gave us the words to these songs to worship him and to honor the nature around us. Our Hopayyi' (spiritual leaders or prophets) may've once known what the songs meant, but that knowledge was only for them.
