Hey everyone, sorry I completely fucking disappeared for almost a year, shit got really busy finishing my degree and I just didn't have the time or energy to do any channel stuff. But I'm back now, and I'm going to be uploading some more shit over the coming weeks/months (for real this time), so stay tuned. Also welcome to the ~9000 new subs who got on board since the last upload, hope it was worth the wait.
I played with WRE.I abandoned every city except those in Britain.Moved all my armies on the island.Fortified it like it is ww2.Conquered the Caledonians,Picts and elbadanians.I waited ,my enemies started to wage war to each other.Eventually they died out.I survived.I rebuilt rome at late game.Victory.
@@acrylic1176 There is one city on the coast that is vulnerable to attacks from the sea by vikings and others. It has to be fortified.I forgot the name ,it isn't Londinium.
That is smart move. I need to hold out key fortified positions like crazy, raze cities, and subjugate tribes in advantages area just to survive. Damn, your smart.
You must recover stability before attila becomes the king, an then, hunt Attila, focus on Attila to defeat them 4 to 5 times in different turns. And defending against the other huns armies.
It's possible to retain most of your territory on this difficulty. What I did is this: I abandoned Briton after seeing a new full stack Viking invasion force every turn- didn't lose much income (except the lead I think). Then, and this was important, I slowly upgraded the garrison in every border settlement. I haven't played in a while, but I think there's a few buildings like garrison quarters or something that cost like 800 per turn, but you get 6 or 8 soldiers in the settlement- you can defend against 2x2000 soldiers easily enough, and it makes the 1x1000 stacks a breeze to fight through; just hold them at the choke point, hammer them with missiles, and slam into their behind with the light cav. But, you do need to fight every single city battle to make this work- losing cities will start chain reactions of disorder, and it becomes very hard to fight back once that happens. It is also very important to have a legion in each region- I had one in africa to quell the desert lords, one in spain to police all the rebellions, and pretty much the other 4 were split along the eastern border. I slowly improved public order by way of constructing all the various improvement buildings- this is really important as investment in the early game, while a nightmare militarily, will set you up for the long term. What ended up happening is Attila pillaged about for 50 years, too scared of my now veteran forces to comit to war. The entire world hated me, and I got the big diplomatic pentalty, but after 100 years of watching me cut down any rebellion, the war notifications stopped coming and I ushered in an age of peace. WRE was a societal marvel- public sanitation, ample food supply and good career opportunities for young men in my ruthless rebellion police machine :P
That assassination plot made me cackle deep into the night. Keep being amazing Yrridian. Pleeease make a memelicious Attila vid that calls for CA to give us the update we deserve. Attila needs to rise again. If there's anyone who can do it and spew forth belly laughs and gain attention, it is you.
>Retreat all you forces to Italy asap >Destroy every building for profit and them raze every city except in Italy, Sicily, Corsica and maybe Carthage. >Turtle up in your forces in Italy, only defending the Alps. >Eventually start to do small raids in enemy territory. Try to pick off german enemies one by one. Destroy their cities and eliminate their faction. No need to expand your border now, just raze their province. >When you fell strong and rich enough, start a slow process of colonization. >Late game, prepare for the Huns In my game I even managed to ally myself with a TON of german factions. I started by liberating one of them, which made them my friend ofc, and them made easier to become friends with their own friends. From that, I started buying gifts for one faction, while attacking and destroying it's enemies. In the end I had a network of german allies between me and eastern europe, and when the Huns started to invade I barely fought a single battle in my own territory, always fighting with my allies stacks in their cities. It was a easy win, on my very first Attila Campaign, and on Very Hard
No the good technic is to hold all teritory and begun with make the britain and irish tribes pupets states/ or destroy it , but the britain is really important she was a shield for the gaule against nordic nations ( geats jutes danois ) and of course you have to defend pannonia and belgica , i dont know with but the ia prefer attack thoses city than maxima sequanorum and rethia and noricum But maybe they have différent way to win ( of course they have because all games of total war is différent ) Sorry for my english im french
If you raze SOME provinces it is a bad strategy. If you raze EVERY province, while ready to defend what is left, you will have some turns of civil war but then what will be left is a stable well protected core, with the seas in your sides and alps in the north, and the money of all the destroyed buildings will be more than enough to initially develop this core. While everyone was complaining how difficult WRE campaign was in the forum, I was enjoying one of the most intriguing and yet easiest Total War campaign on Very Hard I ever had.
My experience as West Rome was on hard difficulty, so I don't know how well it translates to higher difficulties, but I'd like to offer my piece on what's being discussed. In any case, I demolished my buildings to avoid public order penalties, and built theaters and libraries to boost income and research speed (since early-game income sucks for Romans, and I like researching tech as quickly as possible). Oh, and because I wanted to convert to Graeco-Roman polytheism out of interest, though the public order penalties from religious strife may not have been worth the mitigated maintenance costs. As for territories, I withdrew to the Italian peninsula, Insulae Occidentalis, Africa, and Tripolitana (the last one more to see if I could actually hold it; my plan was to hold only Africa so I would have a forward base from which to reconquer the North African coast). I built up my economy with the aforementioned theaters and libraries so I could make a sizable income per turn as soon as possible, as I wanted that income to develop both my remaining territories and enough of a military to repel invasions. On that note, build guardhouses at Segusio and Aquitania, then station a legion at Mediolanum, Verona, and Genua, so that all paths into the Italian peninsula are secured (I learned to station a legion at Mediolanum the hard way, when the Huns launched a surprise attack and razed it without delay). Then, once I was able to hold the Italian peninsula without much trouble, I reconquered Mauritania and swept through Upper Iberia, and from there the rest of Western Europe. I didn't have much luck with Germanic allies; I gifted the Suebians a region in Lusitania in the hopes of improving relations, but they declared war on me soon afterwards anyway. I did have the good fortune to have Eastern Roman as a firm ally - even if they didn't do much to help with wars - and in any case I was able to manage on my own. But yeah, to get back to the main topic, don't raze your provinces - or if you do, raze one province at a time - since the public order and integrity penalties will put you in a really nasty situation. Even if the abandoned settlements are occupied, the AI won't do much with them, as I found out when I reconquered the lower half of Iberia from Hispania.
Oh, abandoning your settlements rather than razing them also gives you time to develop your core, since the AI will thoughtlessly occupy/raze those settlements that have one or two buildings to their name and do little else with them. Seriously, I was running into settlements held by AI factions (like Hispania above) who had held Western Roman settlements for decades and only built some basic structures.
Haha, thanks for things like this. Make more of this, i love how the music fits (very dramatical misgiving) and how you choreographed the events with the music :D
Me too. Waiting to survive and killing the huns to expand the empire. At the end of the campaign: Attila dead, Sassanids destroyed, sassanids puppet states destroyed... And invincible economy of 200k per turn.
I had a very good legendary western rome save, it was about turn 150 and I had subjugated every tribe on my borders and the eastern roman empire had agreed to be my vassal giving me loads of money each turn. Then, all my dozen or so vassals got together and decided to declare war on me. At the same time. There's nothing like sitting through dozens and dozens of rebellions only to have it all turn to ash in a moment.
