Chevy HD is a good idea too. Go for it. Buying a new truck is what you do when you get a channel to the successful level. Do your thang bro.
When my third child was born I got an Expedition EL XLT 4x4. Plenty of room for the kids, dogs, and all of our stuff. The truck we have is used to get us to and from work and get firewood.
"It's starting to weigh on me" fuck if I don't know exactly that feeling
My dad had an old f250 diesel, they’re bulletproof and run forever. Easy to work on and modify. Good luck to you and yours
A man needs a good truck. Period. That is a life essential.
Truely is. I've been without for almost 6 years.
Forget a truck, you need a panel van.
naa gotta have the bed. Trust me... I want one...
“Overland” Windex
Best of luck to you my man! We want the best for you and we do look forward to your content 👌 I hope you are able to get to where you need to my guy! I see you are doing the most
Toyota tundra crewmax with the 5.7 v8 is the best truck I’ve ever owned. Owned GMC’s, Rams, gas and diesel. Toyota is my favorite by far. Plenty of space for the family and unbelievable reliability. Snug top canopy and a decked drawer system is amazing and incredibly efficient.
To bad Toyota realy blew it with the new Tundra.
I think your on the right track. "not that what I think matters" but we have a 2013 chevy silverado 2500hd ltz, crew cab long bed with the 6.0 gasser. turning radius is shitty but its been a great rig so far. you put out great content, please keep it up.
A larger aftermarket/OEM fuel tank is a must! Cuts down on hauling extra Jerry cans.
Now I'm determined to make a comment you do not expect...
Dude you wear 20 year old mechanics gloves. Buy a dam truck and don't feel guilty about it.
I have a '91 3/4 ton 4x4 Suburban. I'll do a diesel swap at some point, but it's the last year of the solid axles, and has the TBI 350 (no carbs).
I live in the Sierras in Nor Cal at 5400', and am regularly going up to over 8k or down below 1k. Takes all the kids (five) plus gear and a couple extra scouts when we go camp (generally tent) or whatever. We cut and haul wood with it using a trailer out in the bush, etc.
Comparatively cheap to keep up and quite reliable. I've driven it in the snow in the woods, on all our family road trips and to my youngest's appointments in San Fran (she's severely epileptic).
It's not perfect, there are some things I'd like to add for safety and electronics, but it's great. Base model so actually pretty light weight. But the best thing about it... no car payment, no debt!
Your truck is gonna be awesome, dude. Can't wait to see it!
1985 3/4 ton 4wd suburban is what your looking for.
Nothing gets wet ,No codes , no smog , pull out tray for all equipment with battery charging station from 280 watt rooftop solar panel .
Your bike is light enough to fit on front or rear hitch carrier. Way safer than ramp loading truck.
Plus your family can fit in it with seats with dogs too as back up and bug out.
Just some blunt skull smooth brain thoughts that came to my mind while watching.
Wont quite cut it. Safety... For long road trips (Every year for my heart shit) is also a top priority. Has to be a truck with a bed as well, Those hitch carriers are all garbage, a SUPER pain.. especially with a hatch or barn doors... Do the math there... and it's not secure enough for the exciting roads out here.
This, simple HEI and a carburetor. New stuff is the suck.
@@OvertonWindexunderstood. Especially with little ones and side airbags and frame safety.
Appreciate your info , livestreams , candor , finely tuned sarcasm .
@@ghostpunkkilla Guy... I change more than 8k feet in elevation daily. Carbs suck here.
@@OvertonWindexnah that “guy” was personal 🤣
Long bed , bedslide with second upper stationary tier , contractor rack, personally I have a service bed which can be pretty handy also.
Good plan. Get the truck you want. Eventually the family vehicle could be a suburban. Fond memories of traveling west in my grandpa's suburban pulling an airstream.
Hey man, sounds like I got what you need. I gotta 2013 Silverado 2500hd, lifted on 35s. It’s got the 6.0 gas motor, and the 6l80 transmission. It’s got all the elctronics I could ask for and nothing stupid, like the stupid DOD that GM likes to put in the 1500s. And the newer 2500s
Sounds like a solid plan
We got a 2003 Suburban for our family of 5 plus 2 dogs. Best decision.
good for you man sounds like a good plan. as for the bike save your back and get a solid hitch carrier.
Im onboard, joined the subscription. Honestly hope it helps, even if only a little. I enjoy your direct, in your face content. Stay true to your ideals.
Never underestimate the utility of an 8' utility bed! Buy any configuration steel/aluminum, just make damn sure it's a Knapheide and only a Knapheide! Preferably with the flip top box storage, unless you want expanded metal baskets mounted on the tops for storage... No need to worry about cosmetic bed damage, 4' or 6' long middle boxes for rifles, rear steel bumper included, and a conpletly empty 4x8 interior bed with everything organized and locked in the outer boxes via keyed locks, rod/padlock combination, or even remote locks (waste of money)... Also endless options for hard lockable open bed storage from walk in cabins to rolling/folding hard covers, plus racks if you need to haul even more stuff or need baskets above the cab for pelican cases/tires/etc. Buying a used one saves a few g's and they can be swapped in a couple hours then keep or sell the factory bed... Only problem with used is the choice between white or white 🤔 But they have amazing electroplating on the base steel primers, so changing color is only slightly more than getting a regular pickup bed painted... I've had all the popular brands and Knapheide reigns supreme... Full length piano style hinges, recessed latches, door designs that remain waterproof even with missing gaskets, etc, etc... If you ever try one you will gladly pay the small fuel burn increase considering the starting MPG of 3/4 ton trucks... I wish I had one on every truck I've ever owned, currently just have one, but still see the one I got new in 2004 and regret letting it go 😂 (really didn't need a 9' dually extended cab, but I would've kept it had it been a 2500 duramax/Knapheide combo even without the true double cab) Utility beds are ready slept on for non-work purposes in the US where they are very common, even in aluminum construction, but Aussies have realized the benefits for decades, although setup cross ways for extended camping/off road storage... Just go look at a flip top Knapheide box on a work truck at your nearest stealership and you'll quickly see the limitless options for semi-permanent storage that is truly securable, not 30 Guage steel foil used to stamp out modern beds that literally have nothing but wasted space between the inner bed and fenders to meet EPA size requirements while gaining zero storage... Hell the weight over the rear axle also makes 3/4 ton trucks ride smoother and get traction off-road, especially if you have a diesel weighing down the front... 👍
I recently wrapped my car, if I didn’t misunderstand what you were talking about… If you are able to get the wrap for your new truck and what you want on it etc, I would happily fly out from the UK and do what is necessary to make it look awesome for CZcams vinyl wrap wise.. and maybe a few other ways.. 😉 HMU, It’s great hearing your straight talking videos and I’d love to help you out my man
Totally agree on the Straight talking vids. And you are awesome for offering up the help.. I would fly out and help too!!! :)
Well I’m a Duramax guy so…. I recommend a Duramax !

Mutht Be Nithe to have friends and neighbors wiling to help out. 😉
Looking forward to how this rig ends up... it's likely going to look pretty bitchin'!
unsolicited two cents. From this video I get that you want two things. 1. A two car set up 2. A hobby truck. The plan as i see it, is save up or the delux truck while using the trail blazer as it has been. I wouldn't use this approach for the following reasons. First during the entire duration of the time it takes to save up for the dream truck you are encountering all the gripes you have with the current set up ( size, availability, reliability). Secondly trucks have an expected life, during normal wear and tear they are expected to get 100k-200k miles. If you push the car harder than "normal" it will most definitely shorten this. I assume that you do and i will assume that it will. This means that a future family car purchase is already quickly approaching and the fund for the dream truck could be cannibalized for the family. Best case scenario you have already allocated funds for its replacement but you will still run into the issue of having to spec out a truck thats both good for the family and good for the channel having a "good" truck in both instead of a 'great" truck in either. This also has the draw back that an emergency truck purchase will not be done as level headily as one that is done will an abundance of forethought, in terms of sales/options. So what would be my advise... get a used reliable family van first this gets the added perks of better mileage, better safety features, quicker deployment of a two car system. Use the trail blazer for Overton Windex purposes and as a reliable beater that you can set up more to you liking. Daily wear and tear will also be reduced potentially widening the fund raising window as well.
You worked hard it’s your money you earned it do as you wish
2012-2019 Sequoia v8 4x4.
That's what I want, anyway...probably end up with a 4Runner, though.
Why not a Land Cruiser?
@nicholasaustin2717
Not quite as reliable, and parts aren't as plentiful.
As someone who has a 92 JDM Mitsubishi GTO, parts availability is king, in any future vehicle.
@@FoxFireUnlimited 100%
I don’t disagree with you at all. I don’t know enough about Sequoias to speak on their reliability, but it’s easy to imagine a catastrophic failure occurring every 200k miles instead of every 190k.
I would say that for almost every part that makes a Land Cruiser move its wheels can be found on the other “Trucks” with similar drive trains. The suspension may be unique, but you can drive on a wonky suspension until the UPS guy gets your package to you. Oddly the fact Lexus badges up the LX has saved me money. The same exact model# starter purchased for a LX 470 was cheaper at a Lexus dealership than buying it for a Tundra from Toyota.
Where I likely agree with you is interior trim. If you want to be able to replace interior trim, stay away from the Land Cruiser/LX. The AC vents, control panel, cup holders…seem to have no cross compatibility with other Toyota vehicles. As soon as someone in Portland posts that they totaled their LX, a guy in the other Portland is asking about the drivers side dash vent.
I 2nd this. Bought one brand new in 2013. Can't bear to get rid of it. 227k . Brakes and oil changes. It's become our backup vehicle/ dump trips/overland adventures.
Mountains . Cross country. City. Home depot to hunting trips. Comfy and spacious.
At 160k we did timing belt just incase and at 128 we did a control arm from running over something large that fell out of a truck.
If you need a bed it would be the same to just get the tundra
@nicholasaustin2717
The Sequoia is just an SUV version of the Tundra...all the same stuff on both. It's been the most reliable vehicle on the road for almost 20 years straight and average 330k miles per unit before being retired, last I knew.
Yeah I’m trying to get a truck too. Just too expensive for me now, and I don’t want to be in debt to any banks
One unique problem with these things is the fuel filler neck cracking where it meets the tank. Check for leaks there if ever you get emissions related codes. Also, keeping a spare TCC computer for the 4x4 actuator and corresponding solenoid is prudent. The most important of all modifications on these is of course an auxiliary transmission cooler, the factory tranny coolers on these are very weak and the main cause of burnt cluthes and broken sun shells.
Everyone hates on a crew cab long bed 2500. It's the most versatile truck you can get. Glad your going that route! Also a flat bed might help if you wana hang your plates on the side. Should get them a good bit lower.
Yep, totally an option that i'm considering. Much more versatility for lock box storage as well.
I've got a 2500. it's a love hate thing. Great truck, use it all the time but hate driving it.
@johnsheridan6452 explain please.
@@sawyerwallace9631it's a 3/4 ton so it's heavy and gets really bad mpg. 8-15 depends on what I'm dragging behind it. I've got a 35' toy hauler and kids so that's lots of "stuff" to haul. Main reason I bought it was to tow. Tows great and thats the love part. The hate part is the seating position and the bounce when empty. For some reason the seating angle really bothers my sciatica nerve and left ass cheek. It's the only vehicle I've ever owned that does this. The other is that darn gas mileage, 36 gallon tank and when has its over 3.50 gal, it's $100 bucks to fill.
Jeep Gladiator with a rack. Built for the trail.
lol.
Get a lada niva, it's like Santa's shop, small on the outside, but huge inside 😂
I love your channel and yeah you definitely do need a nice truck and that’s a great choice keep it up
Well you don't want any of my advice on trucks. Hope this process goes smoothly for ya!
Custom Flat bed Crew Cab with all the Accessories. Custom side racks, Custom made camper that bolts on in the future. Im following you Windex >you're< content is great!
How new-ish? Depending on what trim package you go with, Chevy trucks from 01-16 are basically the same. Other than interior design and later models have AC evap behind the dash.. A chevy is a chevy. My 2016 Silverado 2500HD Crewcab Long bed has the 6.0, 6L90E and floor shift transfercase. Almost everything is identical to my 05 3500 I once had. Really just depends on what creature comforts you want. I always opt for the least amount of electronics, hence the floor shift transfercase.

Grab a 2nd gen Prius. No joke. Slap a lift kit on, bigger tires and an inverter (HV batt can run a 12v inverter a long time). Problems solved and you'll save money on fuel with 40mpg.
*Edit: I see you mentioned laying down in the bed, you can do that in a Prius too. The PriusDwellers subreddit has tons of info. Mount a hitch and you can have a cargo carrier with a toolbox.

I can tell you’re a Chevy guy but I’ve seen a lot of 90s fords for under 5k. I got a 90 f150 with the 300 and 4x4 been my daily for a year now with minimal fuss. Blah blah

Nice boots.
100 bucks from Murdochs... they have zero tread left.. and they're falling apart. I do not recommend.
@@OvertonWindex Bad* boots.
I love your channel, and I have absolutely zero skin in the truck brand game.
Please please please, dont pick a ford F series, unless you buy one newer than 2017.
They were successfully sued because all ford F series trucks made between 2000 and 2017 had a roof that could not withstand the weight of the truck in a rollover. And discovery showed that they KNEW about the flaw for over a decade. Ford lost the lawsuit. The lawsuit hit them for 1.7 BILLION dollars bc of how aggregious the flaw was, as well as how long they knew about it.
If you buy a new truck and decide on chevy, great. If you decide on toyota, great. But if you decide on ford... stay as far as you can from 2000 to 2017. Your kids need their father. Rollovers arent super common, but they happen often enough that your truck should keep you alive through one.
ANYTHING but a 2000 to 2017 ford f series truck.
I personally actually avoid the trailblazer.. soo many weird issues..
You must be… retarded?
Where is the F- Body? Lol
I have personally had no luck with a single chevy besides one Pontiac Grand Prix. But hey if thats your style go for it man.
I dont recommend BRAND new, i recommend something close to new. Something lightly used maybe. Then have a good mechanic install the features youre looking for if you dont feel capable.
I've been a mechanic my whole life. I will be going with chevy. Lightly used is totally an option.
@@OvertonWindex thats great man i hope you find a solid one that meets all your requirements.
Trucks are just too expensive. Get a minivan for the family, then get a big suv or a older truck for yourself (1st gen toyota sequoia). But I also hear ya, you're a youtuber, helps to have something showey and memorable that gets clicks. I won't take a loan for anything that's depreciating so buying a nice truck is not in the cards. Best of luck, love your videos!
it's just as disgusting to me, to buy a new truck. But it is the only direction to go... for many reasons.
I want a FJ cruiser
Not a small boosted motor! NA V6, V8 or diesel.

for me brother, i am really excited to watch you get into finding a good truck, just dont get a fucking smoked out raptor 2022 lol, get like a 2012 ford or chevy
Get a truck man. We donated for a chair. We can donate for a truck! A nice Toyota. Ditch the chevys man
Never mind. If you’re buying new they’re all the same. Get what you want. A used Toyota tundra with a 5.7 would be a solid truck though
used is totally an option. Just for multiple reasons... not a great one.
No way, get a Chevy Avalanche and make it match your favorite gloves
I don’t like your videos but I’m glad ur doing well.
Dad? Dad, is that you?
Im aware this will not change mr overtons mind, he doesnt change his mind much. hes made that abundantly clear. BUT, to any up an coming checy/gmc truck buyers, SERIOUSLY consider what your needs are. Ive owned a couple 1500s,2500s,and 3500 silverados (used obviously but all about the same mileage/torture) and one thing ive learned is i dont like the 2500s (broadly speaking). The......"umph" upgrade from a 1500 isnt quite enough, to make up for the less mpg, while not being as beatsly as a 3500. Is itll suit your needs perfectly, then most definitely go for it, and i cant speak to the new gen ones, im too broke for that shit, so makybe the differences arent as extreme and its actually a viable option now adays. Im excited to see the rig someday windex. Not sure how you area handles ice mitigation in the winter but if they salt/sand id HIGHLY suggest starting an oily type maintenance a couple times a year when u get it. Hell, even a POR or eastwood preservative coat if u hit the goal......just stay away from any undercoat thats rubbery or the like. Trash. Good luck!
2500 and 3500 have the much skookumfied chassis and suspention. 1500 is a light duty (fragile) chassis. The only thing missing from a 25 to 35 is moving suspension components, their stiffness, and obviously rating. I will be replacing that stuff anyway. I also don't want a super stiff suspension for obvious reasons on mountain roads.
I don't change my mind much, Because I have more information than you. (viewers/ Commenters)
@OvertonWindex fair point. I wasn't sitting on em by no means. I'm a bit of a wrencher so I've always upgraded certain components myself, especially on halftons. But I get wanting the "out of the box" option to start with as a base. My comment was more directed towards someone reading and not having an idea what they're actually wanting/needing to actually look into it for a change. Not someone like yourself. we know you've made up your mind already when you post something. It's refreshing.
@@ishnifusmeadle Yeah unfortunately... Or fortunately? i dunno.... but I only have time for fairly "out the box" kind of things now. Except for rare exceptions. This will definitely be one of them, accessories alone.
