Pencil test starts at about 8 minutes
These are a staple in my pencil collection,I love the dark richness of the colours and the pigment conttent is surpriingly high in relation to the graphinte content. These are great on toned papers too. I use them in mixed media pieces and over watercolours. They can be layred up really well. I have the pan set as well and use both together.
They also make a range of tinted charcol pencils which work well with these pencils. I like that the Graphitint pencils are a good mix of warm and cool colours. How well they layer depends on the paper you use. I use them for life drawing as well.
I just started using the water soluble graphite and I love it so I'm so happy they make them with colors. Thanks for this video. I'm going to buy them.
These are so much fun! I'm sure you will love them!!
Thank you very much for the demo, I have these but as yet haven’t used much, you have definitely given me inspiration!
I'm glad I could inspire you, thanks for watching!
I just bought a few, I also dreamed about these pencils for a long time. In Polish online stores we can find the following information:
Derwent Graphitint pencils are based on the Derwent Watersoluble Sketching watercolor pencil with a softness of 4B with an appropriately selected pigment. Thank you for your video!
Oh cool, thanks for in information! I hope you have lots of fun with the ones you bought! Thanks for watching!
Best review on Graphitint I have seen thank you! Would enjoy any other drawing you would do.
Thank you so much! I'm so glad to hear that, you made my day! 💖
Really happy you got to check out these pencils. I've avoided them forever, as I just don't see myself using them, but you definitely make them look fun and I enjoyed your thorough tour of each one and the ways to apply external techniques. Well done! Loved the final demo to really show how to use a product like this! Cheers! ~ Mark
Thank you! I had a lot of fun with them, I'm surprised it took me so long to try them. I like water-soluble graphite in general. However, I may end up having the same issue with not using them much, not because I don't like them, but just from lack of time since I work in so many other mediums. Lol. I will definitely have to make a conscious effort to use them often now that I have them.
Mesmerizing what you can do with these pencils. One of my favorite video on the topic. You told that you worked a day on this painting. Did you do it as comissioned work, for fun or for a portfolio? You are an artist for a living, what have you done or are you doing with this gorgeous piece of art? In a couple of years the number of viewers go up to 100 thousand or so, and this painting is going to be famous, a kind of well-known.
Thank you! I do sell my originals and prints of my work. I do commissions sometimes, but rarely at this point as I'd rather focus on my personal work. This one was just for fun to try out the pencils and get a feel for them.
I spent the whole time stressing out about your pretty white sweater getting smudges all
over your sleeve, which is funny because I treat my own clothes with so little regard when I’m painting. This came out so great! Thank you
Haha, it's an old sweater that I have had since High School! That being said, the sleeves are smudge free, so all is well! 😁
I got the pan set in an art subscription box and really liked it, but haven’t used it that much. I remember using Meadow a lot because it was the only colour that gave light to the painting. They did lift when layering so it will be interesting to see how they behave when you use the pans and pencils together.
Yeah, I'm really curious to try them! I will definitely keep the lifting in mind. Meadow is a great color and I agree about it bringing light to the rest. I used a lot of it here and will probably do the same with the pans!
I got the pan set in an art subscription box and I absolutely love them!!!!! They’re magical 🤍🪄........also the pans when you put them on a palette they do separate and it looks like pigment but if you mix them up they’re fine
Awesome, I can't wait for them to get here! Thanks for the tip about them separating, I will keep that in mind so I don't freak out when it happens to me lol.
This was so much fun to watch!! Your art came out beautiful, too😊
Thank you Kathy! I'm glad you enjoyed it!! 💖
9:14 Do patterns and mini doodles with your swatches or I also have seen mandalas for swatching. It makes swatching not only more interesting while doing it. It also makes it more fun to revisit.
That's a fun idea! Thanks for the suggestion!
I love them so much.
My first comment on CZcams! I thoroughly enjoyed your video. You combine useful information throughout the segment and demonstrate the subtle characteristics of the product expertly. As a neophyte, I love videos that inspire and instruct, and yours did both with exceptional skill. Looking forward to following you.
Thank you so much K Y, your comment just made my day!! 💗
Remember, these are English, so maybe Merlin put his magic into them! Great video. This piece looks familiar! I've finished my little piece with the Graphitints, and I will be putting it on my Facebook page and on my new Instagram page. I agree that the pencil grade seems to be in the mid B range somewhere. I like these pencils a lot. Thanks again for the review!
You're right, maybe it was Merlin himself! Yeah, I usually post on Instagram before here, so I'm sure that's where you saw it 😉! I will keep my eyes open so I can see your Graphitint piece! Thanks for watching!!
Gorgeous!
Thank you so much Lindsay!! 🥰
Hi! I bought myself this set plus the pan set to. I’m looking forward to using these with either water soluble graphite or normal graphite for tree studies. 👍🏻
They will be great for that! The pans are a ton of fun too, I ended up buying them later on, and I love them! They work great together.
Beautiful! I just hot this set recently. Thank you for your demo.
Thank you!! I hope you have fun with them! They are a lot of fun to work with!
Absolutely love the finished result! 😍 Your voiceover was excellent as well! I still don't quite understand the need for these, instead of the watercolor pencils...I guess it's more like for people who love to draw, and this just embellishes the drawing?
Thank you! 💖 Yeah, they definitely aren't an ultra necessary supply, lol. They just give a fun, different effect. They feel good to work with and give a neat antique look to the piece. They aren't as vibrant as regular watercolor pencils, and I could definitely feel the graphite in them. I like playing around with supplies, so for me, it was about trying something different than the same old pencils on the market. It just adds a bit of variety to the supply stash, lol. Thank you for watching!
@@CautionArtistatPlay I laughed when you said you were addicted to art supplies, lol. I keep telling my husband - it's cheaper than traveling the world, right? 😁
@myrnalanders7291 😂😂😂 it truly is an addiction, but we could be addicted to far worse, that's for sure!
Awesome ! Thank you for your beautiful art.
Thank you!! 🥰
Wanting these and some soluble grafiti, as long as some dry and soluble pencils for my work. Can't wait to complete my personal pencil, pen and paint selection...
These are a ton of fun!! I really enjoy working with them!
I used the pans in my most recent artwork, I love them!
Yes! Since this video, I have done another where I tried the pans! They are so much fun!
17:27 Dang, the trees looks so real, like a photograph!
Thank you!!
Wow, I had a tough day, and when you said "Witchcraft," it made me LOL so hard. TY for that!!
So glad I could make your day a little bit better! Thank you for watching! 😊
8:51 It’s funny cos that’s the only part I love and/or do with my art supplies... swatch them... then I put them away in nice tidy colourful storage and then turn to obsess about researching and buying the next art thing I absolutely NEED ... but will never use ... just like these pencils which I watched every video on for 4 solid weeks before buying last week... swatching.... cooing over them.... and now they’re in a drawer... and I want my next shopping hit/fix 😂
Hahaha yup! Buying art supplies is addictive! There are so many cool things out there, it's hard to resist! Then there is so little time to possibly use them all, it's a vicious cycle!
You described me completely!
You said everything I wanted to hear, thanks.
You're welcome, thank you for watching!
The Derwent company lists these as being 100% lightfast. Thanks for sharing! I just ordered some. The painting is beautiful!
Thank you! I hope you enjoy them when you receive them!!
@@CautionArtistatPlay Came today! WOW!
Awesome!! I hope you have a blast with them!!!
Beautiful. I'm thinking of getting them. Now I'll get them seeing your view and Lindsay Weirich view. Thank you
You're welcome! I'm glad I could help you decide, I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!
Much appreciated and thorough review. ❤
Thank you for watching, I'm glad you enjoyed it! 😊
Great review of materials! Derwent is just great!
Yes, they are, I love Derwent!!
Aubergine means eggplant.in Spanish. I’m suddenly obsessed with these muted colors. I think I NEED these!
I have since learned this, thank you! Lol. It's such a fantastic color! This whole set is really beautiful!
Thanks for your information.👍👍👍
You're welcome! Thanks for watching!
Nice piece, you are very talented
Thank you!
I think I've finally caught up on your videos. And remembered to follow you on Instagram.
Thank you Maria!!
Really nice drawing!
Thank you!
Just found your channel. That picture is gorgeous
Thank you so much!
Gosh, that work is absolutely gorgeous 🤩
I was really curious about these pencils. I’d like to draw portraits with graphite. Are the colours in these set suitable for portraits?
Thank you!!
Personally, I don't know that I would like them for portraits unless I was going for a non-traditional color scheme or some dramatic effects. I think they would be neat for experimental or surrealistic kinds of portraits, but I'm not sure as far as typical portaits go. They could be fun for a neat kind of antique look. All of the colors are going to have a bit of a darkness to them because of the graphite, so it might be tough to draw someone with fair skin with these. I have not tried a portrait with them, though, so I can't say for certain.
@@CautionArtistatPlay thanks for your advice. I have only been drawing for two years now and I draw meanly photorealism: humans and there emotions. I think it’s good to focus on one thing at a time. At the moment I am trying to make the same portraits with colour, but it’s really hard or at least I think it is. I thought ‘I’m good with graphite and these pencils are graphite with colours, maybe a win-win?’ 😅 maybe I am making it to hard for myself, but I just don’t get the realisme on paper with colored pencil like I do with graphite and it’s kinda frustrating 🥴
@grasspriet-84 It can be frustrating to learn a new medium for sure! I do think regular colored pencil is probably what you are looking for when it comes to photo realism, though. I'm not sure if you learn well through reading, but if you do, I highly recommend the book "Colored Pencil Painting Bible" by Alyona Nickelsen. It's fantastic and can really help with doing realism with colored pencils!
@@CautionArtistatPlay thank you! I’ll look for that book
You're welcome!!
Beautiful
Thank you!!
Do these feel like a normal graphite grey pencil??
I think they feel similar to regular graphite. To me, they feel just like any other water-soluble graphite. I don't feel like they smudge as easily as regular graphite, but they do have a nice glide to them on the paper.
You can kind of combine them with Inktense, but they don't act like Inktense, I think more like watercolor.
Yeah, I don't think I would want to combine them with Inktense, though the white pencil does feel similar to the white inktense pencil. The rest feel just like regular water-soluble graphite to me.
Beautiful 😍
Thank you!! 💖
i wish i knew there was a 14 set i bought the 12 colors wahhhhhhh
Lol same, I hate swatching 😂
Glad I'm not alone! 😂
I was wondering if these would be good for outlines?
I like to use fine liners or colored pencils for outlines, but it depends on the look you are going for. They would probably work but I haven't tried these for that myself, so I'm really not sure.
Aubergine is eggplant in French.
Awesome! Good to know!
😍👍
🥰🥰🥰
Does anyone know if the finished artwork will smudge or is dusty? I use sketchbooks and worried it might come off onto the other page...
They aren't as dusty and don't smudge as easily as regular graphite pencils once they are washed out with water. But they do still smudge a little.
@@CautionArtistatPlay thank you :)
@lizcharalambous9150 you're welcome!
What sharpener do you use?
I use the Derwent Super Point Manual Pencil Sharpener.
There's always something on my list to lol
😂
@@CautionArtistatPlay my poor husband lol
Haha, same! Mine is pretty understanding most of the time, but I definitely test his patience, I'm sure!
@@CautionArtistatPlay lol my birthday was yesterday I'm waiting on inktense blocks I'm going to try and figure those out
Oh, they are a blast! I use the blocks like watercolor pans and apply the color with a wet brush! They are super versatile, you will love them, I'm sure!
Me too...I want so many water colors pencils...but honestly I have limited space and economic limits...but theres always the possibility of a lottery win... win ...lol
We can hope right? Lol
If you see this question, do you need a special sharper for these pencils? I'm looking to purchase soon
Oh and what sharpener do you use for all your regular pencils?
I use the Derwent Super Point manual pencil sharpener for all of my pencils, including these ones! I love it!
Awesome thanks
You're welcome!
Once you put water on them the colour fades badly..........okay if you take photos of your work straight away❤❤❤
Yeah, I haven't noticed any fading in this piece yet, but that's because I have it kept in a portfolio away from light. I offer prints of it but won't offer the original for fear of it fading. It's definitely a fun medium to work with though!
You can research on the interntet, and there is a lightfast rating for each pencil, if I am not mistaken, but most colors are very higth rated... But you must be careful even with very lightfast soluble pencil when you water it down. Just avoid excessive water and it should be good to go
Wow
💥👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🏅
Very cool pencils, but very expensive!
I haven't looked at the prices in a while. I wouldn't be surprised if they have gone up since I bought them.
7:45 and the FIRST mark is made. Prior to that, we looked at a box of pencils. Sigh.
Some people like to see the specs of a product. If I don't include that information, I get a ton of questions about it in the comments. If you don't like my style of review, that's perfectly fine. But a lot of people come here for that kind of information.
I am having a hard time finding these
Are you in the United States? If so, I have links in the description to where you can find them.
