Awesome, thanks Lindsay! I've been wondering about these. I like the pencils.
Thanks Steve!
I like the pencils too but not so much the pans. I also like the pencils better in Inktense as well. I know it's the reverse for many people but then again I haven't been known for following the trends, lol.
@@rayne6737 I haven't been known to follow trends either. I've been eyeing the pencils. I think I'll have to try them. I'm not a fan of the inktense pans either 🤔
Steve, I love the work you've done with the pencils and that charcoal stuff too. I mean your watercolor work is also amazing. I love when you do mixed media. I think that's my favorite because that's what I love doing for my art work haha. You and Lindsay are so amazing at what you do. You are both so honest and genuine. Very rare these days, or so it seems 😕
@@adriannabcustomfurniture Thanks!
I've had the graphitint pencils for a few years...I love the grunginess of the colors. They feel autumn-like to me, and super cozy. I've been drooling over the paints for a while now but I have so many watercolor palettes already. Seeing you use them and your swatches, though, I can see that they're quite different than what I already have...soooooo..well, it's like a whole new product! :D did I really need a reason lol?
Thanks for doing this tutorial.
I love, love derwent inktense pencils and blocks. I am an urban sketcher and love using the graphtint for shadows on buildings, trees and plants- also walkways in conjunction with the inktense pencils.
Fixative sprays fully seal Graphitint, both pencils and pans (as well as the XL blocks). Two coats of fixative and you can work on both sides of the sheet. Thats how I use Graphitints is sketchbooks.
I love that Derwent is offering open stock replacement pans. I just can't bring myself to buy art supplies without being able replace certain colours. Might get one or two pans to try them.
Thank you for your thorough review. Your reviews are always interesting (even if I am not interested in the product).
Thanks for reviewing these. I'm looking forward to your projects using both the paints and pencils. I recently purchased both specifically for their unique attributes. I love the muted palette and the granulation effects.
All the paintings that you did with the paints and pencils are terrific, and as usual the review was interesting! Thank you Lindsay.
Lovely video and a wonderful review of this unique product! I got my set from Scrawlrbox in a previous box sale I think it was $11.99 you do create some truly wonderful artworks that you use to show off the supplies in your videos! I believe that we all know how an accomplished artist can use any supply to create amazing artwork, I have found that the struggle is lessened by the use of quality supplies especially the better papers bring a foundation for creating stunning artwork. I do appreciate your attitude and mantra of getting your viewers to think before they buy! Please take care and enjoy the rest of your day!
Im a derwent geek. Love their products. Always fun to see you do a demo or a review of that brand. Makes my husband nervous though... LOL. It is Canson Montval. Indeed a canson paper. I love muted earth colors. Im dutch, imagine me using all brights for a futch landscape. Like placing the dutch in the south of europe, hehehe
I love derwent too! What other products do you have? I recently got the XL tinted charcoals, just love the colors
@@liliax9147 I have the artist studio colored pencels set 72, the inktense blocks set of 72, set of 24 inktense pencils and the set of 72 pastel pencils :P Like I said, Derwent Geek LOL
Thank you. Looking foward to the fossil graphitint tutorial.
See you tomorrow at noon!
Your videos stimulated my interest in watercolor. I am now enjoying your videos in other watersoluble art materials. Going to stay with watercolor for now but in time I may try some of these other art products. I love the line of all the colors mixed. That would make an awesome background and seeing it has me contemplating other ways to create something with them mixed together. You have a way of stimulating my imagination. You’re great.
I got a set of these and love them for subdued designs. I did a chickadee in winter as a sympathy card, and used a fixative on the card. It had a vintage look because of the subdued colors. I was pleased with the set. Thanks for the review. 👍🏻
I love the looks of these. I also really love being able to see these types of videos with discussion on what they do and/or don't do well and how the look was achieved (like putting it on wet paper or a mix of pans and pencils). The more I see the more I want them.
These just made it into my Amazon cart... so perfect for plein air landscapes for me! Thanks Lindsey!
I’ve been eyeing these so I appreciate the review. And your latest podcast was spot-on!
Thank you!
Lindsay, you always encourage me to get off my lazy bum and play with my art supplies. I have the pencils as well. I enjoy them. The only thing that bothers me is the transfer of graphite. I sprayed the artwork with a fixative and it worked. Thanks Lindsay for all the encouragement. 🥰🥰🥰
I've had the pencils for years, first just the 12, but I made it up to the full set. I've seen this pan set around for some time, but I wasn't & I'm still not convinced that it would be worthwhile buying them as well. Your granulating experiments look luscious though and the artwork is great too.
That swatch REALLY helps! I love Derwent everything.
Very useful information can't wait to try them. Thank you
Those look awesome! Thanks Lindsay!
Thank you so much for this one. You really drill down and get the facts for us. Didn't know about the lightfastness ratings. Will watch for the fossil tutorial because it does look perfect for the mood of these.
Oh! Love the fan and all your hints and tips! Can’t wait for the fossil tomorrow! Thanks, Lindsay!
I have the pencils, but don’t use them much. Would LOVE to have a tutorial for the dinosaur bones. It looks so cool. Big thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience! ❤️
Great review! Love these & Derwent in general. Just got the pen and wash pan set and looking forward to using it. I think the Graphitint pan paints are my favorite for landscapes.
Great info thank you! Pretty pictures!❤️❤️
Thank you so much for the review. I already HAVE this 12 half-pan set (so my "want monster" has no excuse to make an appearance! LOL) I have the pencils as well. Seeing your awesome drawings really are an inspiration. The fossil painting is wonderful! What a perfect medium for them! I look at the swatches that I made and my colors look more smooth than yours. But you said you used saltwater, so I may give it a try with them. It is funny, but it never occurred to me to consider these as 'watercolors'. Funny how my mind works. I am looking forward to seeing more tutorials and stuff that you make with them. Awesome! :)
Im doing a livestream with them at noon ET tomorrow
Thanks for another great review! I love the pencils - so many great applications and uses. 🙂
Would love to see demo with Graphitint pencils! These are such interesting colors.
I'll have one tomorrow!
I don’t know when I would want to paint a fossil, but I would definitely enjoy watching/learning how to do it. :)
See you tomorrow for the lesson!
I have the pencils but not the pans; I wonder if Derwent will eventually release a 24 set of Graphitints in a long skinny palette like they did with the Inktense ones. One can only hope!
Thank you Lindsay! I can't wait for the fossil painting tutorial.
See you tomorrow!
Derwent Graphitint pan paint looks fabulous, Lindsay! They're absolutely gorgeous! I can't wait to see the dinosaur painting. It gives me something to look forward to. Tfs.
How freaking cool are those??? So much fun....love your paintings
I have them both. Love them both. Think they reflect my personality-muted but gritty!
Heard you say salt water and thought “I wonder how much salt to how much water Lindsay uses when she mixes up the salt water to get granulation” 🤔 Inquiring minds would love to know 😉 (at least mine does lol) Love the metallic look you achieved on the fan. The fossil looks amazing 🤩 I have these, think I need to pull them out!
I have no idea lol
Thank you for sharing this! Beautiful artwork!❤️
I’ve been lusting after graphitint pencils for so long, but couldn’t find much online using them. Suddenly 2 of my favorite youtubers releasing videos about them in the same week! I’m so excited for the fossil video and hoping to get my pencils for Christmas!
Awesome! See You tomorrow for the live lesson!
I adore Derwent products for how interesting they can get, I have three Graphitint pencils I looove using while I’m outside doing some urban sketching, they’re great under watercolour, I might get some of the pans now, the colours are great for some places here in Eastern Europe :D
Like the picture of the fan. Very retro. The graphitint look fun. I got the mister some as part of his birthday present.
I have these in a pencil set! Love love love them! Watching from Tulsa OK this morning
Beautiful, Lindsay. I really enjoyed the more muted colors. I think I would enjoy these very much ...maybe a letter to Santa!😉
Got these paints in a scrawler box (I know best box ever!) love using them. To add in highlights I rub out the graphite gently but slowly goes I and presto highlight so much fun. Such a wonderful look at a fabulous paint.
Great tip!

Beautiful presentation Lindsay, awesome artwork.❤️❤️❤️❤️😀
Thank you!
The pencils are on my wishlist for ever.. I really want them because I gravitate towards muted colours and they are a nice addition to my intense.. now I am more convinced to buy the pencils..
Bought these pans 2 weeks ago. I love them. I like muted and granulated colors, though. It works with the desert scenes, too. Well, it is very sunny and bright here, but the desert itself doesn't have the bright colors in the landscapes that places with seasonal changes have. I do like the way this palette was made.
This video gave me an idea, I'll mix my watercolors with graphite powder to see how it looks, thanks for the video.
I’m sadly again in the market for watercolor and similar products. I lost my carefully for two years collected palette and paint tubes when moving . I’m so sad, the financial damage is not small and all the time it took creating those palettes…..
We’ll now I start from scratch, at least I had the New England Graham set left, it’s at least a start….
That thistle looks real enough to attract bumble bees. Nice work!
I always find it amusing when people who don’t live in Canada talk about how cold and bleak it is here. Trust some parts are like that but I live just outside of Vancouver BC and I don’t even own a coat. It RARELY goes to freezing here and most of the time it is very mild and gorgeous and sunny here.
Great job friend,nice😃keep sharing friend😃✌️
Thanks Lindsay. Lol. Just posted a painting with these and up pops the review. Good to know they have some transfer. I'll mat and hang that piece pronto. Looking forward to the fossil tutorial. Woohoo! 👍💜
I saw that beautiful painting!
@@thefrugalcrafter You've taught me so much. I could not have gotten to this stage without your generosity. I thank you from the depths of my soul.
Thanks Lindsay for interesting review. Pretty colors .
I use mine for a sketch and wash in my sketchbook I love the rustic look
These remind me of some of the Daniel Smith Watercolours. Just lovely colours.
I just got this set in the mail so I’m excited to see how they look on paper.
I love the colors in this set. Hoping to get a set of the pencils from Santa!
These look great. You mentioned that you can just get the graphite gray and mix it with your regular watercolors, will this do the same as the colors in this palette. If so, I would love to see a video on this. Otherwise, I'll have to wait for them to go on sale (more expensive on Amazon)
Or if you have a watersoluble graphite stick you can use that. Be creative:)
I'd love to see a video on that.
Oh, the fan! It’s beautiful!
I have the graphitint pencils, love them but rarely use them however I LOVE the inktense paints, have the big set and the box has a bit of space so i added some of my favourite watercolors & was able to fit 15 half pans with the 24 derwent pans. They remind me a bit of guache.
Lovely skeletal dinosaur. Seem like the kinds of drawings your kids would really love.
I love the graphitint colors! I have a set of 12 pencils. I'm trying to hold out on the pans till they have all 24. I may not be able to wait, lol!
Im not sure if they will do a 24 set.
I appreciate your videos. You encourage me to use what I have. I have a few different mediums now. So maybe a little mixing of them might be nice. Thank you so much.
Love my graphitint pans. I just knew you would too❤
I was wondering if you were going to break your no buy but Derwent sent them. They are a must with the pencils.
My no buy was September and most of August
So I wonder what Lindsey will be purchasing October and on... Especially with the holiday season upon us.
@@Horsewoman-pt2ku boring stuff. I need a new laptop 😆 although I usually treat myself to something after completing inktober but im not sure what 😆
Do live stream with these! Love to see!
Your art from these products are amazing fossil background looks like its a real Hyroglific. I hope I spelled that right .. lol Yes show us how for all!! :)
Love the look of these. Thanks. I love the watercolor journals but a bit pricy for my budget. I just have to go as inexpensive as possible.
How did you know?? 😱😛I have been wondering about them and been ‘stalking’ your playlist to see if you had done something like this. Mindreader Lindsey. :) Love the fact I can get them open stock.
Have you tried the Boku Undo e sumi watercolour set? The various shades of coloured blacks? Red black, blue black etc. I bought it two days back, love them! I live in the PNW , WA state and we are heading into greys lol.
Great news about your friend selling the sketchbooks! I have had sketchbook envy😆
I haven't but I am curious about them
I ordered it at a shop, still waiting for mine ❤️
Cool, I have the pencils and really enjoy them and even cheat by adding a Derwent ochre charcoal pencil. I had to have yellow. They look different or lighter than the pencils.
I love watercolour brushes
I just noticed they’re arranged in complementary pairs
Awesome review! I saw these when looking for the pencils and was wondering what they were like. Now they are in my Amazon cart lol! Looking forward to your cool looking painting with these. Thank you so much Lindsay! 🙂
This set, along with a small watercolor pad and Graphitint pencil, was in the November 2020 Scrawlrbox. You can still order it. 🤓
Very cool, congrats on your Papercraft society box
Thanks!
try painting with the Derwent Inktense blocks. They are wonderful.
I love these so much like both pencil and pans the are on my lottery bucket win list... thank you for letting us know where the product was manfacture.. would enjoy fossil video..lol mikelle art mom ✍🎨
Coming up tomorrow!
@@thefrugalcrafter thank you for letting me know about the fossil video I watched the video and sketched along....it was fun ...and made my art heart happy...mikelle art mom👩🎨✍🎨
Hi Lindsay, completed unrelated to this video but I am wondering if you go into detail about angel policies, some technicalities or nuisances with them, etc. for crafters that may want to sell their work in an upcoming Sat Chat? I'm trying to remember if you already have a dedicated video to this topic as I do recall you talking about it some in a video but honestly can't recall if it was recent or not.
It's in my copyright video: czcams.com/video/PUXbweP3nNk/video.html
@@thefrugalcrafter Thank you!
I have them. I love them!
They look fab.
I have been using the graphite y paints for a few months now and I love them. Where we live in New York is very gray too. I have had the pen vile on my Amazon wishlist for a long time and this past week I finally phrchased them. I am excited to get to use them more
Have you every reviewed the set went metallics? I saw you comparison metallics video but can’t remember if you did the Derwin’s too. I know I have been debating between the Paul Reuben’s and artsy for a while I will have to go back and rewatch that video again
I havent because I haven't found a good use for them as they are different than other sets i have. I think i might have a good use for them tho. Stay tuned!
Would love to purchase the sketchbook from your friends Etsy shop. Please let us know her name and shop name when it becomes available. Thank you for review. I have the inktense sets, not this set.
She just listed it! Link in description with a coupon code!
Great video! Thank you 💜
After watching a lot of these paint set reviews (I only have the pencils)... I really think they have accidentally mislabelled the 2nd one, Russet.... which is supposed to be more red and is in the pencils.... and to me that always looks like they’ve used the sage colour not Russet there? Everyone always said it doesn’t look like the swatch they’ve included....But doesn’t mention it’s actually a totally different colour? What do you think?
Could be
This set is on sale at my local art store for $20
I keep my Graphitint pencils in the roll with my Inktense. I particularly like the dark indigo color as a faded color for backgrounds and so on. I love my Derwent stuff, but they're like the anti-Faber Castell.
What do you mean "anti Faber Castell" ?
Faber has the same colors in every set, every line, and they match. Derwent has different colors in each line, many suited to what unique traits that line has. They work well together, but don't overlap.
@@davek12 oh yes, gotcha. I never thought of it that way (truth be told I rarely look at the color names as they printbthem so small on both brands and do t get me started on the gold foiling 😆
I like the look of the muted colors, and they all seem to work so well together. Thanks for sharing.
Love the fossil !!! what brand of deli paper do you use ? can I get at Walmart ? I see dry wax or grease proof, brown etc. . I don't know which will work on my artwork. Also will tracing paper work just as well? Which is cheaper ? I have seen freezer paper and butcher wrap . Could you make video explaining use and differences.
Tracing paper is fine. Whatever is easier for you to get
Hello Lindsay! I am writing you from Nice, South of France. Concerning the Derwent Graphitint Pan Paint, does it dry like watercolour? Or does it leave some little particulars ( or little slight dust) on the paper? Can we fold the paper after painting, or it might leave some dust? That means do we have to fix the painting as soon as possible, or protect the painting with another paper ? Thank you very much for your answer! I wish you a nice week-end! Meilleurs massages de Nice Côte d'Azur! Marianne
It can smear on the opposite page of a sketchbook so you may want to fix it.
Thank you very much for your answer !
My set came today. Regarding graphite transfer to another page: do you use any fixative? Does the transfer fade, or does one need to put paper between each page?
It depends ob how thick you apply the paint. Often the transfer happens when you are drawing on other pages and the pressure comes through the pages so I interleave tracing paper if I have art on the facing page.
How does these compare to the metallic set. I got one for christmas and i want muted colors as the metallic set is glittery and vibrant. I love the metallic set but i would like more dark colors
These are muted but richly colored.
I got some of these in a ScrawlrBox last year. It took me a while to get used to them, but now I use them all the time (I think I may have a different colour selection to you). 😊
Something I really like to do with them is to pop the pigment block out of the pan and rub them directly on the paper for a textured background. 😊
Do you have an inktense set too? I was wondering if the pans are the same size as the Graphitint ones so you can mix and match pans to customise a palette in one travel box.
The Derwent Valley, where the products are made is beautiful and lends itself to those muted colours and granulation. 😊
They are The same size! I think there are only 12 colors of the pan Graphitints.
@@thefrugalcrafter Thank you! I think I'll get a few Inktense ones as well. 😊
On the fence about these, do they really smudge onto the other page if using a sketchbook? 😊
They do unless you use fixative.
@@thefrugalcrafter thank you :)
Yes, Reindeer are real! They are a type of Caribou. J
Love playing with Graphitint paints, but they dry very quickly & lifting is about impossible.
Are the graphitint paints like inktense and dont rewet? Or more like watercolor
More like watercolor
QUESTION: Can you give me the color/# of the colors we will be using? I signed up for the Michaels and derwent class. I’ve been wanting to try the coloursoft. I normally like to collect my pencils over time. It gives me something to look forward to and let’s me see if I like them before buying the whole set.
Thanks!
I used a variety of colors from the 72 set. Im not at my desk right now to see them
@@thefrugalcrafter no problem, I went ahead and bought them.
The graphite can rub off when the paint is dry.
These have to be used with something that will provide a dark value since they will never build up to a dark value.
I think the phrase you might be looking for is “temperate climate.”
