- See the pinned comment about skipping from AirPods and CarPlay! Apparently this can be changed in the system Settings app. Can't believe I missed this đ€Šđ»ââïž

Hey Matt, goto Settings > Podcasts > External Controls to switch the skipping/next behaviour.

OMG this changed everything! Thank you, it must have been 10 years since I changed a setting in the Settings app, but this helped a lot. đ
They recently changed it and for the worse. It is a heaping pile of dung. Now you canât subscribe now. You have to download podcasts and there are three different places in the app with stuff unorganized everywhere. I still canât figure out the thought process in regards to the changes.
do you know how to delete podcast that have been listened to?
@@jesss9378 in Settings > Podcasts there is an option to Remove Played Downloads option. Otherwise, there are per subscription settings for each podcast you subscribe to. The Settings are found by pressing the three dot button in the top right corner of your podcast subscription page
Where do I find instructions on how the latest version works? Everything on CZcams seems to be for creators.
The reason I use Apple Podcast because it's THE default app, for listeners and most importantly, for podcast creators as well. Every time podcast creators ask for feedback, they ask for it in Apple Podcast. Spotify might be catching up, but the lack of a review system is what I believe a fundamental flaw.
I believe that review is a critical way for podcasters to find a new podcast. It lets people know what to expect from the show, and it shows what other think of the show. Reviews are great for creators as well. It helps them get exposure, and they can look for feedback from the review.
Overall, while some apps might be better for podcasting (overcast), I believe it's the community with podcaster and creator interaction that mark apple podcast as the most popular podcast app out there.
Wish there was a 1.2x speed instead of the huge jump from 1x to 1.5x
I love your down to earth reviews
Overcast is over-rated IMO. I have a paid subscription to Overcast but prefer the Apple Podcasts app due to Overcasts weird interface with non-standard ux. My favourite podcast app was Castro until they went and messed it up with a horrible update ages ago, it just stopped making sense. Three things I love with Apple Podcasts - design is consistent with other apps, a long press will reveal additional options which is nice, has an Apple TV app which I use all the time.
Apple podcasts was great until the latest 14.6 update. Itâs Horrible. Iâll definitely be searching out a new one this week.
I totally agree with you and I have many more issues⊠you mentioned others and now I will change to another podcast app. Thanks
Awesome video man, stumbled across your account! Definitely got a subscriber
I delayed upgrading my iMac OS for a long time because I didn't want to lose iTunes, but I finally got a new iMac 3 months ago and I still freaking hate the Podcasts app so much. I still don't understand basic things about the app that seem like they should be really obvious, which is why I'm looking at a video like this.
@CensorsRtheRealFascists Wow, that's extreme. My 2015 iMac can still run iTunes as long as you don't upgrade all the way to Catalina or Big Sur. So if your old one dies, you could always get a used one that's a little newer but not that new for a pretty low price.
I recently started using Spotify. It's pretty good and at least you can do some basic things like, I don't know, make a PLAYLIST, but I still prefer iTunes. I honestly wonder if Apple made the Podcasts app so basic and terrible that they are trying to get people to listen to podcasts less so they would sign up for Apple Music, which I have no plan of doing. You can't even play the podcasts from oldest to newest. No mini player. Seriously, if Steve Jobs was still alive, I doubt this crap would be happening.
Great commentary. I have Overkast and still use the Apple podcast app. Iâve found that syncing with my Apple Watch is clunky for both.
Until ios 14.5 FUCKED IT UP!
To me still my favorite than any other one out there. I have tried all of them including paid ones and always go back to apple podcast

I never understood the complaints about the podcast app. Iâve tried the other popular ones, but went back to the default Apple one since it is simple and gives me everything I need without any unnecessary clutter. And then its seamless integration with Siri and the rest of the Apple ecosystem like Apple Watch and Apple TV is its killer feature that no other podcast app can compete with.
You do really great overviews.
Problem is - most people just want to listen to a podcast they like, or a podcast a friend recommends. The product is not the app, it's the podcast. The extra features in many apps, like recommendations or 3x speed, no one actually cares about. Subscriptions for this type of product is just bizarre.I've been using the default Apple app for over ten years and have been happy. But the latest updates ruined it. So I looked into alternatives. Turns out, there is no simple podcast app where you subscribe, get notified on new episodes, download, and keep in your library until you delete. Doesn't exist. The bells and whistles of all this are not necessary. The product is the podcast, not the app.
Apple needs to reed this. Iâm so frustrated right now. đ€Ź
Subbed to your channel. Keep it up, you're great.
Iâve used the Apple podcast app daily for several years. Itâs always pissed me off that the default order of a podcast seems to be ânewest to oldestâ. I would like to change MY settings to ALWAYS reflect the natural evolution of âoldest to newestâ instead of manually customizing the play order and finding it revert to conform to some other shitty feature. And save my damn place. I LOATHE âListen Nowâ and the assholes who didnât think that one through. The recent updates destroyed the already frustrating UI. Junk. Garbage. In conjunction with CarPlay and Siri, I found myself road-raging the other day, determined to sell my POS car and replace my Apple Podcast app with ANYTHING else. Thatâs why Iâm here. Iâve never hated Apple so much.
I feel you. I despise this app every evening and still use it đ
Stay strong, brother. We'll get through this somehow.
The Siri / Homepod integration is the killer feature. The Apple Podcast app works well enough for me to have no need for an alternative. That skipping forward difference must be a bug or something. No one would intentionally want to skip to the end of a podcast, would they?
Iâve been using it for years it was fine until they totally fucked us with the last update it is complete garbage now
Yeah, overheating my phone and killing the battery.
Deleted it
@@JB-mn2gu Wow! Overheating your phone!! Thankfully, there is now an option to delete the app. I few years back when I was not pleased with an update, I donât think I had delete as an option.
Lot nicer than spotters for podcasts imo
Great video. I'm also really frustrated with how it is not easy to view all episodes of a podcast. Any help/tricks would be much appreciated.
Same
You can tap the icon of the podcast in question to see the list of episodes. Though personally, Iâd just recommend you go find an app that might suit more of your wants for a podcasting app
I used to have a bunch of issues with apple podcasts a while back (episodes wouldnât delete, podcasts wouldnât update, etc.) and I almost switched to Spotify , but they fixed most issues, and itâs great now.
So I have my own podcast now " A Time for Trent's thoughts", on Spotify am I able to post my stuff on apple podcast for free?
Newest update sucks balls so bad, I deleted it. Spotify only now.
The issue with this app for me is that it doesnât always sync when the sync option is on and some podcasts I listen to are late being added.
Re the late appearing shows, I think this is a bug that started 2-3 weeks ago, and which Apple just fixed in the last day or so.
I like the recommendations based on my listening on Apple Podcasts. There is no such thing in pocketcast or Airr. And I found some hidden gems in apple podcasts discovery . So yeah Iâll trade in convenience for quality ( hopefully ) recommendations
Not choosing Spotify cuz their data collection is aggressive and reminds me of Facebook and then intentionally promoting podcasts not related to me is very anti consumer
I feel all your pain in this. Also 1.5 speed so you focus more?
Will we get a video about your new email situation?
I absolutely hate the apple podcast app. For years I've been fighting with it but I'm not sure what is better. Is it so much to ask for podcasts to sync across devices? And Navigation is a nightmare it's become progressively more convoluted where I'm having to jump to numerous layers to find shit.
I thought I might find a better app on this video.
its a mess the app... literalaly makes no sense to me
Love the GB Packers shirt.
How can I edit the order of my Up Next playlist? Everything Iâm reading says to click on the 3 dots and slide the episodes up or down into the order you want⊠That doesnât work đ€·đ»ââïž
My best reason for using Apple Podcasts is that I can use it easily on apple car play. It just works.
The lack of RSS Feed for Patreon shows is the #1 reason why I use Apple Podcasts over Spotify
The podcast toggle keeps Turing off automatically when I try to use it on cellular data .. any help?
I started using Apple Podcasts for a cartoon VA podcast I like to watch but for some weird reason it doesnât work on the app so I switched over to watching that podcast on Spotify, and since I watch so many podcasts I decided to watch some on Spotify and some on the podcast app.
I miss one feauture
I canât automatically turn it off when the podcast is done :/
Iâll stay with spotify. But Iâm open to try new apps :)
that is annoying.. i can't deal with not seeing my lists ..
The Apple Podcast ios update 14.6 is a mess. Avoid
When I want to add a chapter for listening later, I do save it, and have it in the saved tab. Then , when I'm listening to this saved chapter, when it ends, it doesn't play the next saved chapter, but an other chapter I didn't even choose before.
What am I doing wrong?
This!!
Well, I don't use it now because I made the mistake of "updating" my Mac and of course the Podcast ap doesn't work correctly until I or a professional fix it. Talk about a love/hate relationship with this company!
Over 10 year using apples app podcast, deciding to move forward. Over 2 months now the awfuls BUGS without a fix. i dont fuc** care if the is revolutionary or whatever i want a podcast streamer that... wait for it.. that plays the fuc*** podcast. That is simple. and do not want a player that takes year of loading or consume the whole battery of the phone.
I am facing heavy battery drain using the apple podcast app. The phone is also heating up within two minutes of using the app. It should be a very optimised app but i am shocked to experience this. I am using iPhone 13.
The search engine from apple podcast is way way better then any podcast I have tried. Searching for a Specific topic is better on apple podcast
"Why do people use the Apple Podcasts app?" Because they haven't looked for something better, even though there are better options out there. đ I've tried to use it, but it sometimes doesn't load new content even though I know there is new content, it has sync issues, and the thing that bugs me the most: it gets heavy after some time when you go to iPhone storage. I've been using PocketCasts and it never starts getting heavier because it's more cloud-based than stored on the phone, which is good, imo.
I use Podcast Republic, it's reliable and compatible with Android Auto.
Another key feature of apple podcasts is localization.
After 10 years itâs been ruined with the latest update. Fk đ!!
informative
I'm a android user but is apple music same thing as apple podcast
I noticed that with the new update it shows a lot of my podcasts episodes as unplayed when I know I have played them. Extremely frustrating, Apple needs to get itâs s*** together with this app.
Same I noted that too.
Ihave the app on my iPhone not MacBook Air..
Tapping twice to get to a showâŠreal first world problem đ
Why do people use the Apple Podcast app? Some donât. Not anymore. And never again.
My old Mac died just before the pandemic, which meant that my best source of podcasts was directly through my iPhone 7. Listening to podcasts got me through the worst of lockdown isolation. Until iOS 14.6. I get the impression that the designers of this new version never listen to podcasts. All the convenient features I came to appreciate were excised and the app is full of glitches. I could list them - thereâs a lot - but the worst is that loading my library, which used to take 30 seconds, suddenly took 15-20 minutes. I tried working through it or around it but it was easier just to delete the sucker, which cleared up about 70 Gb, BTW. I was hoping this vlog would go into detail about better alternatives. Still appreciate my phone but when itâs time to retire it I wonât buy another one. Apple is dead to me.
It does seem like Apple is taking a LOT of inspiration of audibles ui/ux design choices, and both Iâm not a fan of for either audiobooks or podcasts. For a podcast app recommendation, I can say that overcast is kinda the easy go to given that itâs simple enough that you can just âplay and goâ while having enough customizability for those who want a lil bit more of a fine tuned experience
@@MrTrombonebandgeek Thanks, Disco. You're the second person to recommend Overcast, although Pxl Kid below is not a fan.
MS has a reputation of rushing out glitchy OS and fixing it later. Apple's rep used to be think it through before you release it and then make it even better. Not this time. It bugs me that any alternative podcaster I use I will have to dl through the Apple store. Apple will never get rich off my business but it doesn't deserve a dime.
cool dude
Apple needs to buy Spotify.
Somehow Apple charged međ„€
I feel that they need to migrate the podcast to Apple Music like Spotify does.
Gross. I use Apple Music to listen to *music*, not podcasts.
The iPhone podcast app is most certainly not good enough. In fact, itâs so bad that it discourages me from simply listening to music and radio on my iPhone.
