  • here's two of the most important evening trains on the Port Jefferson Branch. 662 would have EMD DM30AC 519, which has the most crisp sounding Nathan K5LL on the railroad. the Nathan K5LL was made to cut down on decibel levels produced by the original K5LAs, which were 100% unrestricted and sounded at full power. it was created by the LIRR's Morris Park Shops in 1999/2000. it was fitted with a sand cast two piece 1L bell, the first application of this on any railroad, and requires cork gaskets since a normal O-Ring cannot fit in the feet. the bell comination, 1L 1 2 3 4, is identical to the K5HL, most commonly found on the GE Evolution ( GEVO ) Series Locomotives, but it uses a low pressure manifold instead of a high pressure manifold, making the designation "K5LL."
