    You are amazing but the only thing this video taught me is to pay someone like you to do my heads. God bless you because we need folks like you to keep us going. I was out when you said “ ok we are gonna lift the engine”. Yeah, no we are not. Thanks for an excellent video

      As other less difficult parts continue to fail on my 6.0 I keep getting more and more skills/experience. I’m hoping by the time my head gaskets actually fail that I’ll be up to the task and no longer have the outlook as you lol. “Lift the engine by…” yep I’m signing off on this one for time being

    There's a way to do this without lifting the engine assuming you are replacing the head bolts. Pull the far right head bolt upwards(drivers side) until it hits the firewall. Ziptie the base of the bolt so it stays in place. Cut the bolt off with a multitool(metal blade). Leave yourself enough bolt to grab, pull it up again, ziptie the base again, cut it again. The bolt and head come right out. To put the head back in, separate the rocker carrier from the head, put the head on the block without the rocker carrier. The rocker carrier is light enough you can take a single head stud and hold it in the far right position as you put the rocker carrier back onto the head. Also, if your truck doesn't have AC like mine, just remove the heater box on the passenger side. It's worth the 30-60 minutes to remove it and makes working on that side a million times easier.
    This guy really knows his stuff and this video helped tremendously. Thought I'd add a tip so you don't have to mess with the engine mounts.

    Thank you for this video. I noticed my coolant is pumping out of the degas bottle only while under a load pulling my boat (I've replaced the degas bottle and cap, truck already has BPD egr and oil cooler) I was just quoted about $8200 to have this job done with ARP studs and new heads. Think I am going to end up doing it myself at that price. They were pretty adamant on replacing the heads while they are in there too, said its like a 50% chance that they would have to do the job again if I didn't just get new ones...

    Good video, working on doing my first cab on heads off. I'm curious if anyone knows whether or not it is any different or harder to do this on a 4wd? The reason I'm curious is, bc when he lowers the driver of the engine it's just twisting at the trans mount, but with the transfer case I'm curious if it will cause any binding. I'm also curious what would happen if you took out both motor mounts and lowered the engine down that the pan was just touching the engine cradle.

    would it be ok or not ok to replace just one head? i recently replaced a broken rocker arm and it ran fine the night we finished so i parked it and went to sleep. the next day i started it up and the noise from having a broken rocker arm is back. so pretty likely i have a broken or bent valve. so i am looking at loaded heads 1600 for a pair or 800 for just one. so would it be bad to replace just one head?

    The video has helped a ton, I have diesel fuel in my oil and was curious if that’s a sign for a cracked head or if it could be the recently replaced injectors were installed incorrectly?

    • @powerstrokecustomsllc1942
      @powerstrokecustomsllc1942  Před 5 lety +1

      Brock Hale injectors could cause it. But I would say bad injectors

    • @brockhale5221

      Brock Hale what brand of injectors were installed

    • @btwbrand
      @btwbrand Před 4 lety

      @@brockhale5221 The injectors use two Rubber/Buna-N O-rings per injector to seal the diesel fuel away from the oil in the engine. A damaged or rolled or pinched injector O-ring will cause a leak of fuel into the oil. "Bad injector" isn't a good term to describe the problem. Injector reseal kits for all 8 injectors would cost around 80$ and they can be removed and installed with common hand tools.

      Watch EGR replacement video on youtube on powerstrokehelp.com channel. You can order an EGR cooler that is welded shut on both ends on ebay, unless you are a decent welder, for about 80 bucks. The pucks are shit. Stay away from the pucks

    can you remove heads like this in a 2006 6.0 that already has the upgraded studs I started removing mine today and only the nuts came off

    • @powerstrokecustomsllc1942
      @powerstrokecustomsllc1942  Před 8 lety +8

      yes. remove both valve covers and oil rails. then remove 4 nuts on the driver side engine mount, jack up engine using a big wood block and make sure its not in the center of the oil pan jack up the engine just enough to remove the back bottom stud. do not remove rocker carrier assemblies on either side until its on the bench. then remove engine mount on driver side when head is out then lower jack all the way down. on the passenger side remove all studs except the bottom 3 on the back.. pull them out about 1" and put zip ties around them .. remove the rest of the studs and pull the head.

      Hood was not removed. Chains pulled directly above. Head gaskets were blown. This video was specifically made to show backyard garage, do it yourself mechanics how to replace head gaskets on 6.0 Powerstrokes that do not have the capability to pull cabs.
