Had spacers on my F250. They lasted about 9 months. Then on a long ride home, the front passenger spacer caused 7 out of 8 lugs to break. They almost killed me. I was doing 70 mph when they all broke at once.
And yes I torqued them to specs, twice and used blue lock tight.
Sure looks great! But if you want a wider stance, ditch the spacers and invest in wider wheels.

However guys will have you believe your shit will break within a few miles. At 62,000 miles I see no issues developing that would cause me concern. I have no reason at this time to believe any wear is occurring whatsoever. I do not off-road. I have however gone over a few wagon trails.

  • @BIGBADWOOD
    @BIGBADWOOD Před 5 lety +8

Wheel spacers can cause accelerated wear on suspension and hub components because of the added stress that they place on parts that were designed to certain tolerances by the manufacturer. Because the wheels are further from the hub, more stress is placed on the wheel bearing, hubs and/or axles, potentially causing these parts to fail prematurely.
    Heavier Steering
Depending on the size of the wheel spacers, the steering will potentially become heavier. The wider track means that more effort is needed to turn the wheels, which can make it more difficult to turn the steering wheel. Again, this is dependent on the width of the spacer. A small, ¼-inch width spacer will not have as much effect as a 1- or 2-inch spacer.

It looks great, but the front hub assembly bearings and ball joints won't last long with those spacers on there. Maybe 10k miles before needing to be replaced. I know from experience. But it looks great while they last.. And I would have torqued them down at 120lbs. Maybe drive on them for about a week, and then re-torque them. They're aluminum so just like new aluminum wheels, they should be re-torqued after driving on them. I always do it at around 1000 miles.

Most aluminum wheels have steel inserts that the lugnuts tighten down on, but those spacers do not. And I have dealt with a lot of aluminum spacers and I have always torqued them to 120flbs. and I've never had any issues.
If it was below freezing and he torqued them to 120flbs. and it warms up, the aluminum may expand a little, but forged aluminum that is over 1/2 thick isn't going to fluctuate much at all.

There isn't anything inherently unsafe about spacers unless you get ones that are garbage quality. Hub centric is a great plus to wheels spacers. Also using wheels spacers to move the wheel out has the same effect as the aftermarket wheels he put on it. Sure both will cause more wear than stock and so do bigger tires. It doesn't mean you can't go a really long time without replacing front end components. Yes you'll kick more up on the body and this is why I personally don't like "Stance".

@DOOWORKPRODUCTIONS Thanks for the video, finally found a video with the same "stance" goal that I have. I recently bought a 2022 Dodge RAM 1500 Limited, and it has the AirRide suspension, which makes lifting it quite pricey. Did you do anything to the suspension, did you put any sort of lift kit on it? I'm sticking with my factory wheels, they're 20's, and I like the look of them, just don't like the stance, and I want a bit of an aggressive'ish tire. I love the look of yours with the spacer, and tire choice, just want to confirm if you've done anything to the suspension. I'd really appreciate any insight you can give.
    Respectfully,
    Nitro

Did you have any issues with your tires rubbing the fender? I just bought some 2" spacers but haven't installed them yet?

Good video. The 35's on my ram rub pretty bad, do you think wheel spacers would make them rub less? I have a leveling kit but they still rub :(

Dude your truck is clean af ... I’ve got a 2017 ram sport with a summer set up of Moto Metal 962 wheels -44 offset. Wrapped in 33 x 12.5s love it.
Pulled them for the winter and wanted to do the same as you stock sport 20s with some decent snow rated tires.
Clicked the link for the wheel spacers and it said that won’t fit my truck on the amazon site. Is this true? I just want the same sort of set up you have for winter with spacers? 🇨🇦 Calgary AB

I know this was forever ago, but do you recall how long the threads were? I'm trying to figure out if a 1" spacer with wheels with a 1" cut out in the back will be enough clearance so I don't have to cut threads. Thanks!

    • @DOOWORKPRODUCTIONS

That will not be enough. You need a 2" spacer if you don't want to cut your studs.

I have a 2019 Blackout with the 20 inch Five spokes. I ordered these and tried to install and they do not fit. They are very close but the lip is barely to big. I got one on but I had to use a rubber mallet to get the wheel back off.

@@DOOWORKPRODUCTIONS Yea, I was super excited to get these on but I noticed as I was pulling the nuts on it wasn't going on easy. Then I had a bad feeling I wouldn't be able to get the Rim off and I was completely right. I had to use a rubber mallet and about 30 minutes of banging the rim to get it off. You can see on the lip of the spacer where the rim grabs it. It is literally only a hair to big but it's enough not to work.
