Those passenger cars are Kawasaki MU units, destined for the New Haven Line of the Metro-North Commuter Railroad. Formerly used only between New Haven and Grand Central, with branch service to New Canaan, but recently they've begun providing service to New London as well. They have capability to use the overhead catenary of the former NHRR in CT to Woodlawn Junction, where they switch over to third rail power in the former NYC territory.
I've heard that the State of CT bought new Kawasaki's for the Shoreline East between New Haven and New London. The cars in this video are marked for Metro North which is everything west of New Haven. I also heard that Metro North was acquiring some new stock for the Waterbury and Danbury lines. I doubt that cars east of New Haven would be marked as Metro North where there are two totally different union groups involved; everything north and east of New Haven is part of the Amtrak unions and they also own the rails. This has been a contention for years where the Metro North unions are paid more. There are some cross union agreements where Amtrak Northeast Corridor service runs on the Metro North rails from New York to New Haven. There is some direct service from New London to Stamford on Shoreline East but it is pretty minimal.
Thank you appreciate it
Those are Kawasaki M-8s. They replace the [venerable] M-2s, as well as the -4s and -6s. Some sets (or cars) are owned by the MTA, but some are actually owned by ConnDOT. I've heard the Shoreline East sets had their third rail shoes removed. The changeover to catenary is now at [just short of] Pelham. The reason being, they had problems with the changeover and the Woodlawn interlocking; where trains were getting gapped. As such, the catenary grantries are still extant. I'm from NYC.
@@tgmct Some Metro North M8's have been running east of New Haven. Here's an example train at Branford. czcams.com/video/1FEPQbKjtt0/video.html
Not only is it for the New Haven line it’s also rarely used on All lines and Shoreline east but CT rail owns shore line east so ct rail also has them
Can’t believe how bent those rails are when viewed by your tele lens…
Train Cars, Transit Cars and Locomotives Do Have A End Date: Looks Like A New Replacement To Me
Really neat that you caught the Metro-North Kawasaki power cars being hauled by CSX. I've noticed before that while light rail cars (trams) are usually hauled by truck, heavy-rail cars (like the Metro in Washington D.C., Metro-North around NYC, and pretty much any diesel-driven commuter train) are usually hauled by freight carriers, then the commuter railroad's own switchers complete the journey. IIRC these powered cars have to have their brake systems disengaged to be hauled like this, so they go to the end of the train.
Great catch there!
My Grandfather was a station master but died before I was born, else I probably would have spent my life in trains. I live in a tourist town that has antique steam trains constantly during the spring, summer, and fall, so we hear the steam whistle about every 3 minutes from sun up to sun down.
Not every day that we get to see new rail cars, before they are put into actual service. Great job on catching the train meet.
Thank you! Cheers!
I never get tired of the old blue caboose on the end. 😁👍
So cool seeing the Metro-North cars attached to that first train. Also the transit cars are most likely for the New Haven line
Really appreciate the episodes. Nice to see for a long time rail fan and nice to know people still out there filming.
11:08 Track ahead of approaching train looked like it needed more ballast.
Another great train meet with the transit cars attached. Man that CSX I009 was flyin' and cool NS & CSX Lash up in chase mode. Cheers Mike! 👍
Thank you very much!
Love how smooth this is especially from a moving vehicle. Thankyou!
Thanks
CSX has decided to use these as their new caboose. LOL great catch Mike!
Can't wait for this one!
Them transit cars looked good and were a neat surprise! As always, loved the YN2s!
Love the sound of those diesels working hard in the distance and then suddenly they're upon you and rushing past.
Very cool train meet with the surprise of the new transit coaches. I remember seeing retired transit coaches being shipped on flat cars heading for scrap on one of your earlier videos.
My first and Second favorite train companies!
Those are Metro North cars for the METRO NORTH railroad. It runs from NYC-NEW HAVEN.
*Transit Cars! Awesome!*
The best!
@@WideWorldofTrains *Yes Indeed*
Awesome Catches With CSX on NS 28B and New Transit Cars on M368
Great premiere WWOT
Great Premiere as always :). I really liked the Geometry train at the end :).
Glad you enjoyed it
Great catches of CSX and NS trains WWOT! Those INTERMODAL trains really put those Diesels to work but that's what draws railfans! Seeing those UPS trailers brings back a lot of memories when I drove for them to Richmond every night for 29years! Thanks again for sharing this awesome video along with your PRICELESS time and effort! Cheers from Delmar, Delaware.
Thank you very much!
I’ve never seen transit cars on a fright train that’s so cool
Very impressive shots of large locomotives and freight trains in the USA.
Its crazy how when you pan back out you get the jist of how fast these trains really travel and vise versa how slow they appear to be while approaching and how bent up the tracks are.
Thanks for this. New transit cars and all…Wow!
Awesome NS CSX train chase wwot and cool catch of those Transit cars and wow another Awesome train meet another fun and entertaining video with a bunch of awesome trains DPU Alright Roll it
Hey, Awesome train meet and cool transit cars at the end, awesome DPU Alright
Thanks for coming
Basically the same reaction I have when I see a NS locomotive sitting in UP's Eugene, OR yard. "Oh boy, you're a ways away from home"
Awesome new transit cars and meet!! That’s definitely an awesome thing to see!!
It sure is!
Thank you for the videos my man! Don’t know how many other NYCT/MTA railfans we have here but it’s hella interesting to see M8s off Metro North trackage let along a freight consist. Last time I saw something like this it was R32s being transported for scrap on a BNSF consist
Glad you like them!
W,W,O,T I just love the side by side videos and you keeping up with the lead engine and to hear that baby humming the power that engine possessed just blows my mind rail on my friend.
The CSX M368 with the new transit cars was excellent. Love the red trim they had...
Awesome catches great meets great video thanks Mike
Glad you enjoyed it
those are new CT Transit cars. I have seen them, but I have never been onthem. they are cool to look at. Thanks for getting them on you tube. Jonathan
Thanks for watching!
Awesome train 🚂 meet with the New Jersey train n🚂 cars
You sound like my dad after he retired from CB&Q R.R. He would chase trains and take trips all the time after retiring. But what was terrible was he Retired and in less than a year he was dead , Choked on a piece of Beef. He was to be 70 years old in just 21 days. He had plans for a Tour of the United States for his 70 th. year.
Chameleon GA use to have this kind of traffic. I would go to watch trains there as a kid
This was interesting to see. The Trains are so short!!! In the heartland we have trains that are regularly 250 to 300 cars long with 8 + engines on them. A crossing near my house can hold you for a LONG time.
I have never seen a KLM trailer and the transit trains were a fantastic catch! Love it! ❤❤❤
*OMG* those look like *Metro north* train cars! That’s SUPER AWESOME! nice job wwot, also, that’s pretty rare! Or *New transit*
Thanks!
@@WideWorldofTrains *No* Problem
Wonderful catch wwot Metro-North M8 on CSX train
Love the opening and seeing the transit cars, we don't see those in my area.Nice catches as usual!
Every year we would take a trip to my grandmother's house. New Orleans La to Birmingham Al. Every year until I was at least 10. Because of that I've always had a love for trains. 🚆
Cool 😎
A freight train with a few passenger cars at the end of it, wow I don't see that everyday.
Awesome cars I’m sad I missed the premiere but still cool seeing passenger cars on a freight train
No worries
Always loved trains … something about them, very cool 👍
Love hearing the quiet rolling of those new wheels on the m8's, lol!
You and me both!
I can’t believe how quickly all that snow is gone!
Metro North Railroad. They operate on the former New Haven RR from New Haven, Connecticut to Grand Central Terminal, New York City, NY. They have what I think they call pin and cup couplers, so there was some sort of adapter and installed train air hose. These cars normally have train air thru the couplers. They run on dual electrical modes. Over head wire at 11,000 +/- volts ac and 750 +/- volts DC third rail.
Another cool train meet.
1:32 - what a wonderful stabilization...
Transit cars and train meet was sooooo awesome always enjoy the videos.👍👍🚂🚂
Thanks 👍
2 greys today! you know trains i'd love to your reaction to something like the transit cars and then you realize there's a hudson or pacific coming at you on the other track!!
Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good. 😉 Excellent luck in catching the transit cars and topping that with the train meeting.
Very true!
Love the chase footage Mike! Awesome video sir.
You were right! New Haven line for sure. You can also see the Connecticut Seal on them.
ChainsawN&W1218, I always enjoy the chases on NS, CSX in lash up Alright and Transit cars on the end of CSX and a great meet, cool 😎!👍🚂🛤
Thanks, you too!
Very nice! Thank you for your posting!
Glad you enjoyed it!
oh..! of all the train footage, paralleling that head end was indeed mightily charming, and its whistling alongside us here even sounded elvish, elf-like...I could watch more like that, I could 🍺
Those are some long freight trains. Very interesting adding the electric units on the end here in Britain we just get a loco and drag them to the specific depot.
I recognize a lot of the shipping container/trailer logos but went OMG at 12:06 to recognize one from my home state of WI. Had to replay it a few times. Marten Transport from Mondovi, WI.
That's cool 😎
All kinds of "goodies" to choose from in this show WWOT...awesome chase as always (look at that "fist-full" of horn bells atop CSX 386!! SP boxcar still retains its original reporting marks @6:13. Nice "open-top" BN hopper @6:40. Those transit cars were "somethin' else...first three were for CDOT (Connecticut, ex-NH, with pantographs down)...carrying the markers was a solo car for Metro-North. Really unique Triple Crown @13:12...extra-large lettering along with a ConRail herald "midships"!! You said it WWOT..."You ain't seen nothin' yet!!!" BTW...morning of Dec 7, I saw the CDEX "Happy Halloween" car rolling thru Nassau Interlocking (Mineola, Long Island) on an eastbound NY & Atlantic freight. Keeping an "eye-out" for the "WWOT" car down here... 👍 👍👍
Your stars most be lining up just right. I enjoy your video's. I like when you show us the country side and towns.
Glad you like them!
Superb compilation , great chase
CSX engine on NS
Train meet i017 + m368
Bonus: MTA Metro North M8 car for New Haven line
Ha! I saw those a couple days ago in Proviso, Illinois!
Another awesome train meet
Yes it was
Wow that is amazing to see And another train coming ❤
Yes, thanks
Вау, 8:12 в составе этого грузового поезда были новые пассажирские вагоны, вот это сюрприз😲😲😲😃
Также ему навстречу шёл поезд с контейнерами.
Спасибо за видео!👍😊
He caught some EMUs on their way to be delivered for a commuter rail service and there was a hitchhiking CSX locomotive pulling a freight train with the train cars behind them. Chasing a delivery train and more at the local railroad tracks. He didnt expect to see a delivery train. Kawasaki multiple units being delivered to new York for Metro-North. Plus railfanning along multiple railroad crossings. Cheers to Mike and all the other railfans. A CSX train delivering Kawasaki multiple unit EMUs bound for electrified commuter service on Metro-North Railroad. Those are some nice catches you got Mike. EMU delivery train and another train meet. Those are some awesome catches Mike.
Thank you! Cheers!
Awesome video keep up with a great work and be safe out there. 👍 😀
Thanks, you too!
@@WideWorldofTrains Your very welcome sir. 🙏 😊
I like the color scheme on those transit cars , now that was a great train meet. I have been seeing a lot of southern pacific box cars latley too. and triple crown allright.
Thank you very much!
A Triple Crown trailer...haven't seen one of them in awhile. I had a buddy who went into business with a couple of Canadian folk. They thought they were going to revolutionize the rail/truck transportation system. They tried an ''Elephant Walk'' sort of system, hooking trailer into trailer. It didn't catch on.
Great videos.
Enjoyed viewing all train this video but especially first train with transit cars..
Looked New Haven.
Enjoy at times leaving camera running and be able to see area as seasons change, weather,
Good shots of sun rise set, tress, cars, trucks, bridges, places,
Thank you for information on the trains where start and finish the deliver run.
Like personal touches statements and special shots as birds.
Notice the train line is so clean orderly.
Those are the M8’s from Metro-North Railroad. They run on the New Haven Line to Connecticut. Awesome catch brother!😊
Thanks for the info
Those new transit car are for the metro north railroad that I see every day.
I use to live in New Haven, CT those are the New Haven line cars. They are probably ten years old now. I haven't had the chance to use them, but they are cool to look at.
I hrd New Haven Pizza is really good
@@WideWorldofTrains Yes it is. Either Sallys or Pepe's Is the best
Awesome train meets!🚅
That's one hell of a looooong train
I don’t know why, but the train videos are so entertaining. Great content man
Technically the CW44 is a rebuilt AC4400CW, the AC44C6M is a rebuilt D9-44CW.
There are one or two CSX ET44AHs that have been going back and forth on the Southern Tier lately, haven't managed to get them on video yet but hopefully I will be able to before they disappear.
And while I was watching an NS came through heading your way.
Nice! Brand new Metro North Kawasaki M8 MU cars! Can’t wait to go to Grand Central and ride them to Connecticut!
Wow new transit cars
That's hilarious 😂 😃! Def something you don't see every day
I enjoyed this awesome video 👏👏
Great train video, very cool
This is going to be so good
Awesome new transit cars
Those four cars were delivered to MTA MetroNorth and were on a siding in the remains of the old Croton Yard last week 12/6/22. Two days later I saw them moved by a MetroNorth yard engine a mile south to the old NYC Harmon Shoppes to be put into MetroNorth’s New Haven line. They have both third rail and pantagraph connections.
Cool 😎
Awesome train compilation!!
👋 hey 👋 from Dexter,Missouri
Super awesome video.
I was surprised to see a Southern Pacific box car on that first train you filmed, I thought they were gone decades ago.
Awesome video with a train meet 😎👍🇺🇸🚂❄️
Glad you enjoyed it
See the pantographs on them last 4 we have them in the UK the front end also reminds me of the old British Rail class 411. Nice captures.
Thanks
Awesome images. Excellent camerawork.
Great fire at the end
