Not me getting emotional at the music swell when the pencils were perfectly lined up going into their little boxes. @ 9:30 🥲 I guess, as an American, I feel like I’ve been robbed of quality craftsmanship and a human touch in everyday products outside of mass chains. I dunno, maybe it’s dum. I know they’re just little pencils and stuff, but I really enjoy the idea of the things I use, especially art supplies and stuff I use to create my own things that have been crafted by people who care. The Japanese are just bada$$es at craftsmanship♥️ thanks for the video!

Also, a person's identity is not exclusively defined by his or her job.
Someone's absence of "professional ambition" doesn't correlate to their ambition in other aspects of their lives like hobbies, crafts, sports, charity, family, travel, education ...
Don't reduce "ambition" to something that can exist only at work. Ambition is also not necessarily synonymous to "climbing the ladder".

We take a pencil to make a note without ever thinking of the processes, the years of evolution of ideas to improve the machines, the workers, etc.
I guess this all started with people drawing with burned sticks, then somebody thinking "I could just collect the charcoal off the end of the stick and ... maybe ... compress it? Eventually, he saw a market for his crude, artisinal pencils, and thought "I could automate this process", and the first simple machine was made. And gradually, over hundreds of years and millions of improved ideas, the modern pencil took shape. But it's not only pencils - almost everything we use has been mass-produced, and has gone through the same process of invention and improvement. I just watched a video of several hundreds of thousands of screws of different sizes, threads, etc, being made *per day* in a small workshop full of machines, by one man.
It gives a new appreciation for the things we use every day.
