      The OnePlus is all about performance, and having the latest hardware with much affordable price. Pixel on the other hand is all about the camera, software and AI, Google has never been a hardware focused company, and it's not going to change any time soon. If you want the top of the line spec sheet (minus some compromises here and there) with affordable price you go for OnePlus, if you want the all-in-one phone, hardware and software wise (albeit slightly pricier) you go for Samsung Galaxy series, if you want the best point-and-shoot camera with advanced AI, fast updates but lesser hardware you go for the Pixel. This is the beauty of android - choice.

I have a pixel 3 XL right now and it lags like crazy, I use the UI 90 percent of the time and the camera 10 percent of the time. I want the UI to work better then the camera. Also if I am tempted for the pixel camera I can just get the GCAM mod which will solve the problem. Amazing phone for great value. Buying it day one!

  • @raduser
    @raduser Před 5 lety

    The camera IS important, especially if you travel a lot, but for me it's the screen. I would say that the average consumer looks at their screen approximately 40 times a day, whereas they may only take 2-3 dozen photos a month. Of course that can vary greatly depending on the age/mindset of the user. Either way, I think that OnePlus has done an outstanding job here and they should get the award for the cell phone of the year. I currently use an iPhone, but when this sucker dies, I may have to seriously consider the OnePlus 7 Pro. Thanks for the superior review. You rock!

      If you're sitting at a desk or in bed it can charge and the extra time doesn't matter. If you want the phone to last over 5 years, the extra wear and tear on the charging port is no bueno. Plus, if you have mixed devices in your family, wireless charging is universal.
      Its just nice to have even if you don't use it often. Why glass back a phone if there's no wireless charging?

The regular OP7 is available in some markets now, but will come to others (like the USA) later, I think. That will most likely come in at a more palatable price tag, just as other OP models have. You know, that question at the end is something I'm not sure I can answer with any certainty. On one hand, my small sampling of the versatility a triple camera setup (specifically the increasingly popular ultra wide, wide angle, and telephoto combination) can provide to expanding your possibilities when taking shots is something I genuinely feel should be considered standard for anything calling itself a top end phone from here on out. Sure, Google makes a great attempt at refuting this with it's AI zoom feature and a fantastic "standard" lens with a set of post processing techniques that makes every shot I look at taken by their phone's look professionally edited but at the end of the day, no amount of AI enhancing will truly MATCH what a telephoto lens can offer in terms of detail nor can it increase the field of view like a dedicated ultra wide lens. These are features that can be considered gimmicky for sure and may not be used for anything more than 10-20% of your shots (maybe even less for many) but when you use them, you're likely to take notice of the difference they can make from a fidelity and creativity point of view.
    On the other hand however, I'm leaning towards the screen. This, objectively speaking, is tied with the processor components for the most important things on a phone. Both are things you interact with pretty much every time you use a phone. The difference comes when you compare a midrange screen to a high end one though. A flagship processor is certainly a selling point and as an enthusiast, I'm likely to "never settle" for anything short of the highest end silicon that's on offer but when you put them up against midrange offerings during true day to day scenarios, most people won't notice the difference unless they're looking at them side by side under the metaphorical microscope. Shift over to screens however and even casual smartphone users can notice the deep blacks offered by AMOLED screens, same goes with expanded color gamuts increasing the punchiness of colors and accurate calibration avoiding the oversaturated look of early Samsung and LG phones using AMOLED tech years ago. Resolution isn't nearly as noticeable with the difference being very difficult to see between 1080p and 2k resolutions in most cases. The big promotional point of this phone's screen however, is in the refresh rate. At 90hz, it's pushing out 50% more frames ALL THE TIME. This can certainly be an issue for battery life but the trade off is amazingly smooth visuals, transitions, and animations. This effect will be something you can appreciate all the time too, which is why I find it to be so groundbreaking personally. Even the most heavy camera user will be hard pressed to make use of the additional lenses enough to really say that's more important than a component they use nearly 100% of the time they are using their phone (even when they're using the cameras in fact). If there's anything I'd wish my Galaxy S10 had, it'd be a 90hz screen. That said, the s10's panel is so good, I don't think I'll miss this feature TOO much but it'll definitely be on the top of my list for features come time to upgrade in a couple years!

      Reread my response - I never mentioned the camera. I said (and will say, again) that until other markets get the more affordable OnePlus 7, the Pixel 3a will be one of the best value contenders.
      Markets like the United States are not getting the OnePlus 7 yet, we are only getting the OnePlus 7 Pro, which is significantly more expensive than the Pixel 3a and 3a XL, and the regular OnePlus 7 that is available for you in India.
      But I will argue that the Pixel camera is the absolute best in the industry, for most uses, and will be one of the highest selling points over all other value contenders that compromise too greatly on camera hardware. Performance is adequate enough, so it comes down to usability, and when you factor in a class-leading camera, excellent software and hardware support, and the widespread availability that the OnePlus 7 doesn’t have yet, it makes the 3a/3a XL very compelling buys outside of India.

    You made a mistake. The screen resolution is dynamic but the refresh rate is not. The only thing you can do to the refresh rate is lower it to 60hz in the settings and it will always stay at the set rate, even if the screen is not updating.

    IPhone mentioned 11 seconds into the video. It's an Android phone, so how about starting off the review talking about and comparing it to you know, Android phones! 🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️

      he compared the price to an iphone and a different android phone, and it's not like he's comparing the geekbench scores to exclusively different os devices smh

    Damn you OnePlus I'm very happy with my OnePlus 6t but now I want this one because it's everything my OnePlus 6t is only better. This is why I hate watching phone reviews because it makes you want to upgrade to early LOL

    People crying over - OP7Pro camera is not so good as competition or just average, wait until OP7Pro releases an OTA update and then sooner XDA will have Gcam port and boom, you are looking at way better camera in any phone segment!
