- The Lucid Air is an all-new electric vehicle and the first car from American EV startup Lucid Motors. In this video, Alistair Weaver from Edmunds reviews the 2022 Lucid Air Dream Edition Range and talks about what to expect from the newest luxury electric cars to hit the market. Alistair goes into detail about the Lucid Air's range, how we tested it, and how our range test numbers compare to the EPA's numbers. Alistair then puts the luxury EV through a rigorous track test and reviews the Lucid Air's 0-60 time, how it handles on the road, how it brakes, and much more. Can the Air Dream Edition match the eye-popping range and performance numbers that Lucid has been boasting about? Watch our track test of the 2022 Lucid Air Dream Edition Range to find out.

Plaid baby! ⚡🔥
Rivian R1T
Lucid Air Dream Edition, definitely. Plaid is just a marketing gimmick--stick more acceleration into a "luxury" car that isn't all that and the quality is lacking as well.
Lucid. I have a Tesla and it is lacking in normal luxury options.
Lucid for the build quality over the Tesla. I can give up 1 second in quarter mile top speed, but give me the beauty over the beast any day.
I've had my Lucid Air GT for 3 months now and can say this video is an very honest assessment of the vehicle. There are some shortcomings in fit and finish along with software issues which usually exist in first run vehicles. Personally I'm satisfied with the teething pains of my Lucid, since the support has been great and once I get behind the wheel, it's all grins.
LUCID in 2022 cant even build a BETTER car than a 2012 Tesla model S.
@@markplott4820 Fanboys suck
@@markplott4820 im a fan of both cars, but look at the quality issues Tesla has. Not even better especially for there time in the market
@@marcel6234 - this no longer true in 2022, look at the reviews by out of Spec, model X PLAID, and 2022 model Y. Fremont factory 🏭 got updated in 2020. and AUSTIN model Y is even better.
@@markplott4820 of course its true! Tesla is known for there poor panel gaps and its still issue no1
A car with all season tires doesn't handle very well on a road course. Who would have thought.
Doesn't Taycan come with all season tyres?
And yet that’s what an extremely expensive car comes with from the factory…strangeness from Lucid 😜
Have to nitpick the statements of "starting at $171k" the Lucid Air Dream edition (what is reviewed) was $169k.
The other Lucid Airs range from $77k-$139k.
If you're going to quote prices make sure you're specifying the model.
What a gorgeous car, love the Lucid Air 😍
I liked the very detailed initial review. The biggest feature in this brand is the highest battery range. As with every new product, I personally would wait the first year after the mfg works out all the quality/kinks issues before I would consider a purchase. I commend Edmund for this initial report and look forward to seeing futures ones as Edmunds puts this Lucid through its paces.
Thank you so much. I’ve been waiting for a proper vetting.
A fantastic review. I greatly appreciate the arm rest test. And the door handle debacle. This stuff MATTERS !
I had to pick so I ordered the Lucid Air GT Range. Test drive was amazing. Can't wait for that first road trip this summer!
The battery pack shown at 3:14 is the smaller pack for the pure model, not the dream edition. The pack for the dream edition and grand touring models have 4 more modules.
This is great. Lucid nailed the important things: efficiency, range and design. You can fix software with updates ( as they've done), you can fit larger tires for better grip (as is an option you choose as a customer), and panel gaps are a matter of QA.
Cant fix the LUCID OS , its ANDROID 4.0 w/ Lucid skin.
@@markplott4820 what made them choose version 4???
@@umamifan - cost. not even Lucid own OS.
@@markplott4820 wow lmao
Quality is very important, and the ability to service the vehicle in a timely fashion is also very important. SA great example of not buying a car in the first model year. In about 2 more years, this will be worthy of its six-figure price tag. I'm not into being a guinea pig.
Thank you for telling us how to think
Congratulations on the purchase of the Lucid Grand Touring looking forward to seeing some videos on your ownership experience.
LUCID Grand Fraud.
that was awesome, thanks!
Before watching- I've been waiting for this one. I hope it's as good as I think.

Waiting for the 'cheaper' ones.
100 % agree on the 'responsibility ' of these cars...so many people jump out in front of my BMW i3 thinking I can't catch up to them.... had some really close calls. I'm worried when the EV trucks get out on the road, we'll see more & more big crashes.
The other way. Many Tesla owners are using FSD. There are many users who are eager to get FSD beta. To get it they need to get very high safety score. The safety score is obtained by monitoring how they drive. This is clever move by Tesla.
I always see ev drivers driving safe people with bmw are nut cases

I'm confused by what you mean. You are trying to catch up and crash into them? How'd they get in front of you in the first place?
Very interesting video. It is so great to see all the advancements and new technologies that are created in the EV industry making the Lucid air what is it today. 🚗 ⚡️
Highly appreciate your test setup! Maybe you could add a charging category with 0-80% SOC or charging time to add 100/200 real world 'Edmunds' miles.
That 500-mile range is compelling. For someone who lives in the NYC metro area, it means that one can do a round-trip anywhere between Boston and Washington without worrying about charging. Don't think of it as a 500-mile one-way voyage, but a weekend away where charging doesn't need to be considered.
Remember, that’s the brand new battery range. Just like your phone, the battery declines charge after charge. You’ll get 300 miles in year 3 and have 50% resale value for the car.
@@devodar2579 A P85 Model S lost 12% of its capacity after 8 years & 164,000 miles. So if the Lucid Air loses 40% of its capacity in just 3 years like you're predicting, that would be Lucid's fault. Not the fault of current battery tech
@@devodar2579 "Remember, that’s the brand new battery range. Just like your phone, the battery declines charge after charge. You’ll get 300 miles in year 3"
You're making stuff up.
@@devodar2579 If you're losing 40% battery capacity in three years then something is wrong with the battery

I am absolutely convinced 99% of the people who review cars simply do it for the 0-60 blast and to have fun with the car in a closed circuit.
I prefer the Lucid. I like the model S….Tesla’s are seen everywhere now (which is good), I just prefer to have things others don’t (I prefer more range also 😄)
The front and rear light cluster treatment reminded me of the Mitsubishi HSR 1 and the c pillar Renault Vel Satis.
I prefer to have something I know will function properly years from now…there is 0 reliability data on this EV 😯
Lucid only has DUMB range, as the Air is heavier than the PLAID.
RANGE is meningless , when you have Superchagers every 30 miles , sometimes less.
You prefer a car that hasn't been properly tested by consumers, has no known reliability, and God knows how Lucid will treat their customers and not to mention inferior technology?
Also how often do you drive 500miles in one go? Curious. At 60mphthatwould be about 8hours of driving without stopping for bathroom or food or stretch brakes. Theresonly so much range that makes sense. It makes more sense to have a better, faster, and more reliable charging network.
Elon himself has said he could increase the range more and more but what's the point? It'll make a heavier car and no one drives for thatlong
Damn really impressed with the drivetrain tech, having that kind of power and efficacy with the first vehicle Lucid made is quite the achievement.
they've only had a few years to try to approach manufacturers with decades of experience, obviously some issues remain, especially software ones, but i'd say they've done a great job so far
Reminds me of the Renault 25. Looks nice.
18:04 The acceleration pick up speaks Jaguar. The ride quality must be beautiful! If you've driven a classic Jag, you know.
I choose Lucid. Built in Arizona and I'm an Arizona native. Also, the interior and exterior design is far better than the Model S. More mature and aerocraft influenced. The white paint isn't my favorite, needs a more saturated color, the dark Grey is stunning.
2.30 Where is this road and what's name of this sand dunes
LUCID is a FRAUD , just like its Neighbor NIKOLA in AZ.
While I am not an engineer....I have to wonder, it seems they have 'discounted' the roof...why not cover it with a solar panel?...you vou even bring it back to the trunck by placing bigger rear view mirrors.....(most states don't yet recognize back cameras instead of mirrors).
I have a question. How high is the ride height?
I was quite relieved to discover it was a bona fide vehicle, and not from the same place as the Nikola.
I wish them every success and hope the cars become affordable for the average person.
Lucid is the King of EV cars!!!!!!!!!
Great review as usual. Appreciate the honesty and transparency.
I love how people say "honesty, unbiased, etc." You have to realize every show has its agenda. Edmunds for instance is owned by Carmax. You can think for yourself how they would favor certain makes or technologies vs another.
Everyone is going to be biased, but from my perspective Edmunds is one of the least biased out there. They also refuse to sell out for more access.
@@aussie2uGA my point is, too many other reviewers out there want to do nothing but gush over every new car.
@@theMLBfan I agree with you. This is one of the things I like Edmunds most for. The are straight shooters in the world of fakes.
Thank you so much for the fair review. I'm a lucid shareholder so of course I have a bias but I hate seeing reviews where not a single negative is pointed out. But our review stands out as genuine. Thank you !
Did not expect the rear seating floor to be so high in the big battery version. Looks very uncomfortable.
I am interested in that sweater. What is the brand please?
Good review. Can’t wait for your take on the GT version.
Finally a pleasant, informative, fun, correct test. Loved (also) the wheel vs yoke comparison Who knew? :))
Every yoke in every car ever throughout history has always been shit. They are the worse invention ever. They work only for computer games where you're racing along and never encounter real world situations like car parks and cities.
Why the sprint mode and plaid modes...i just want go mode.
I have one reserved. Can’t wait.
you will love it.... i love mine
the door opening and closing issue is a seal load issue. The door is most likely is not properly aligned. Hence the popping sound on opening and the rear door not being able to close and requiring a good ole english shove.
Sure
The soft close seems unnecessary to me. Particularly if it is going to cause problems.
@@bob8606 Agreed. It takes longer to get in and drive away then it is a wastes.
15:54 Braking isn't only about distance. Talk about the feel. Is it controllable? The modulation frequency is apparently well above most other competitors but no official figure
Didn't the Rivian also used a 5 cycle test. However, that one met the EPA numbers... 🤔
28.3kw/100 miles works out to about 143kwh battery pack. How is this possible, since lucid says it only has 118kwh?
Is it just me... I've replaced too many windshields to like these large ones.
Even with those glitches I think anyone would live this car and the range is incredible!!
I would buy if I had the money!!
your car is amazing model great sharing friend all is awesome
The OG mini's bonnet tends to raise up as you take off
Can u dim the screens for night driving...otherwise theryre gonna be a big bright distraction. Goes for all new evs.
Your observation about the microphone that it probably resembles the flux capacitor is not true because I have seen this kind of microphone in some other cars as well here in Canada. The only difference is that this tripod microphone in other cars is located above the diver and passenger seat instead of the middle of the roof like lucid. Now, I don't remember the brand names of those cars but my point is that this kind of microphone is pretty common here. It is not something new that the Lucid has installed in their car.
2023, i am literally finding out that this manufacturer existed today. Just saw one in my neighborhood and went "wtf?! That's no Kia Sonata!"
Great review. Larger diameter rims make every objective driving metric worse is pretty much a hard and fast rule
Except acceleration. And handling. And braking.
@@jghall00 yes, that's why dragsters have low profile tires
I've placed an order for the Lucid Grand Touring, perhaps I should go back and request the 20 inch wheels
Lucid GRAND FRAUD.
Im surprising no one sayed about this beautiful design. One of the best design i ever seen. Interior is little boring but basic so its okay. I love shic Lucid and letro Ioniq. American evs are amazing. i hope to see lucid coope, opencar, suv, truck and fisker nicola ford sedan.
I really appreciate the thoroughness of this non-fanboy review. I believe the small quirks that were observed can be easily resolved. I feel the panel gap on the door you pointed out is subjective. It can only be reduced so much before grazing the frame upon closing. It could also be design.
Edmunds do some of the best reviews out there. They own Tesla's and the drive them but also are not afraid to criticise them, which is very fair. Edmunds tests are some of the best in the industry.
Geesh the efficiency and the powertrain is what makes me gravitate to Lucid. They are well ahead of everybody
My 385 hp BMW also has 225/40 19 AS RFT. Manufacturers always do that. Proper tires will cost less than 1.5 K
Tesla is headquartered in Texas.
Dope!
That rear seat seating position looks like a lower back nightmare.
That's funny - looking at the video I thought I was looking at sometime sitting in the rear quarters of a modern limousine; there's just all that room in there!
Are arabs used to sitting low to the floor?
@@abraxastulammo9940 omg...really?
The backs seats can be adjusted btw.
The fact that you decline the wheel change is legit! Most people just buy the car and don't have an extra set of wheels to change to whilly nilly. Great review!
If you spend $170K that won't be an issues, but it was a legit move. Edmunds don't mess around.
Did they not have enough leather for the back seats
F=Great video! :)
Lucid is epic
The quality issues are understandable, given that the test car is a prototype that has been subject to abuse by just about every other automobile journalist before Edmunds was handed the keys. Edmunds, is there any reason to think that the actual production run won't be 100% perfect, especially since the bugs highlighted in the video would have been worked out by then? I ask, because Doug Dimuro has ranked this car as his highest rated car, ever. He didn't mention the bugs you noted. He received an actual production model, perhaps?
Is Doug an Investor?
How many of us went to the dealers to shop for a new car. And how many times I discovered something was broken -- do you then say, the car was "bad" so I won't buy it.
@@peterkim1999 i bought one and seems pretty flawless so far...19 inch wheels allow for useful AWD in winter conditions. why have AWD with summer tires unless you are recing, actually dangerous on snow and ice. 19in are real world, range focused rubber for a year round useable car.
Great job as always on this review, however Tesla’s headquarters has moved to Austin, Texas.
This car looks great in person. Also unlike the tesla s, its a refreshing design. Just placed an order for a white lucid last week. Once they start working on their entry level lucid towards the end of the year, this will take a big bite out of tesla
Enjoy!! LOL czcams.com/video/1fRYv-5svvI/video.html
Lol No it really not going to. Tesla advantage is far far from just the car the have better control of the supply chain, Great data usage do you know Tesla insurance is 40% less from drivers using actually driving data rather than arbitrary numbers their grip on software and Automonous driving is far from any other company both car and hardware companies Nvidia included
@@oxide9717 just wait and see. Tesla build quality is one of the worst in the business. Also keeping on crashing during summon feature for example shows the flaws of the software design
Pls can we see an Edmunds range test for the Tesla model s long range
Lucid is the future of EVs
If the consumption was 28kWh to go 100 miles, and you went 500 miles, you would need a 141kWh battery pack (28 x 5). The Lucid has a 118kWh battery pack. What am I missing?
This car is a heck of an art. It is very carefully crafted, and the material inside it is out of the world!
0-60 Times are for children. Don't understand why people think they are relevant. The quarter-mile time and speed is far more useful. Of course once an electric car starts to go quite fast range drops precipitously
Wow so critical of minor issues which will be resolved eventually. Important thing to remember is that cosmetics and SW glitches will improve over time. Nit picking on trivial items are like saying Gen 1 iPhone was a terrible product.
So u are gonna look down on the touch screen when they can put it slightly upper for eye level or something
nearly all of the data is also on the eye level screen....no need to use console except perhaps when setting up your route
Slightly annoyed that you constantly complain about tires being too poor for performance track testing portion. Lucid recommended the wider/stickier tires for that very reason. Most people can afford such a car can also have two set of wheels. I do appreciate the other transparency in the video such as glitches and door handles not opening. As a Tesla Model S Performance owner, I do share the pains of door handles.
Nobody is taking their Lucids to a track. While owners can afford two sets of wheels, realistically they will only run one depending if they want the range (as tested) or performance. Edmunds wanted to give its best chance hitting the 500+ mile mark and owners that do as well should know how much dynamic performance will be degraded.
Well why don't they provide those tires themselves then if you claim something and then you say buuut you need to buy this and that to achieve it then it's a lie .
My idea for car companies that want flush door handles that are not annoying should design a mechanism whereby you push the button in and upon release the door pops out. That way there's no silly handle to grab and the mechanism remains physical. Could be a 3" circle pad. Just press it in. Done.
For me, the charger is situated inappropriately, and the wheels should be replaced by the manufacturer. By the way, this is an excellent review. Well done
Great review! Cant wait to see the test on the performance edition later😃 also love that your calling it like it is with the yoke thing; the stupidest invention in the automotive industry not only in the last 20 years but ever!😅
Lucid Motors has a $15K price increase on June 1st. Get your reservation in before then to secure the current pricing.
I couldn’t watch past the claim that smaller wheels offer “less rolling resistance”… I thought you were a car company? I think you meant “less aerodynamic drag”, as smaller wheels vortex less air into the wheel well, thus creating less of a high air pressure “pocket” that adds drag.
I have to admit in comparison to my Model Y, the lucid is quite nicer inside, like more to the panel/dash but Tesla is all about minimalism and speed and distance.
8:31it could also be reference to a y connection. which is a connection type for AC leads to an electric motor.
although Delta is more common (I think), so if the Lucid uses that, never mind.
18:52 "he's ex-tesla, ex-jag, and ex-lotus" somehow after hearing that sentence the quality issues make a lot more sense. lol
You said Lucid had the car before you tested it, did Tesla have the Plaid before you tested it? I recon Lucid tried to tidy up the car since they had it before your review?
I saw 2 on the road now I'd like to have one 🤑😅
But which one would I take, the Tesla Plaid or Lucid Air Dream Edition? I don't know, but I'll tell you which car I wouldn't take: the 0 to 60 in 15 minutes Mercedes Benz EQS...
I will take it and good luck to you with the other two axaxaxaxa.... clearly you don't know anything about cars
No Hyperscreen, no buy! 😁
I know enough about cars to know that the Hyundai generates more power to the rear wheels than the Mercedes. Embarrassing! For $120,000 I should expect my EV to do better than 5 seconds to 60mph!
I do like these reality tests.👍
Comparisons/ deviations noted and contextually appreciated.
After taking so much heat from thin-skinned tesla fanboys Alistair has thrown caution to the wind and is now goading them. Good for him.

Why do they even allow different tests (5 cycle...)?
