  • Atlas does parkour. The control software uses the whole body including legs, arms and torso, to marshal the energy and strength for jumping over the log and leaping up the steps without breaking its pace. (Step height 40 cm.) Atlas uses computer vision to locate itself with respect to visible markers on the approach to hit the terrain accurately. For more information visit www.BostonDynamics.com.

To be fair to mr. Halle, Boston Dynamics has done many government funded projects. However, they've also usually shown these projects off. Even ones intended for use in combat, such as bigdog, have been shown off before they were ever deployed. Humanoid robots haven't seen widespread combat use, because sending meatbags in to die is cheaper. They've only really been used in fields that are already expensive, such as America's drone program or Russia's new automated tanks. However, humanoid robots will only enter combat if they're either substantially better than human soldiers in almost every regard, or they're very cheap.

@Samurai Jack The ultimate main issue of Robots are it is the program(A.I) it is not the easiest part put the hardest as it requires a lot of computing power to achieve simple tasks and atlas to this moment is not semi-autonomous or autonomous. You can build the best robot body but for it to function autonomous a lot of computing power is required that reduce it to very simple tasks only(Unless a fully quantum computing is possible please do not say it is already here focus on the keyword "fully").

Here’s the thing that disturbs me about Boston dynamics. We get 30 second videos, with no context, every six to eight months and every time is this massive break through in robot technology and you literally hear about it nowhere. 2 years from now they’re gonna unveil the T-800 doing summersaults into world domination and I’m gonna be the only one standing here with my ray gun saying “they been warning us 30 seconds at a time since 2010, so don’t call me lookin for help”

I think the main obstacle of that at the moment is the interface, nerve->chip. The worlds first cyborg (2002) had an interface connected to his wrist, he then ran different tests with it and it seemed the brain was very capable at picking up and sorting out the new information.
But it's been very slow progress since then sadly. Think doctors who have to perform the surgery are unwilling to risk being sued and the other scientists are having a hard time getting much further without more information and testing.
But hopefully things will look up in the near future, tbh the best you can do is look for programs like this newatlas.com/darpa-neural-interface/41434/ and either try to get involved or to bring attention to it.
