Good to see ol’ Atlas using his legs instead of the back. When you’re retired, you can never be too careful. 😁
🤣
Humans use leg to reduce stress and risk of injuries of the back. In this case I think it only makes difference from the balancing point of view.
Gotta have hobbies when you retire
@@doxielain2231 underrated advice!
@@adryx_92Yeah, a human has to get healthcare and retirement money if they break their back, if a robot breaks, you take it out in the back 💀
I first read the title as "Atlas Manipulates Boston Dynamics", which made me both very excited and a little concerned
give it a decade....
Time for 4k Atlas
You will have to wait for 1080p and 1440p versions first.
@@alejandroperez5368 You mean FHD and QHD, for name consistency
@@jupiterbjySo it's not going to be 4k either, but instead UHD. Congratulations, you ruined the joke for everyone !
@@alejandroperez5368 dang it! how I forgot that!
@@jupiterbjySigh, what an irony. Talking about consistency with FHD and QHD when OP is clearly using the 'K' marketing word. If you want consistency, it should be 2K, 2.5K, and 4K.
This comment also contains a slight inconsistency since manufacturers usually call 1440p screens 2K, while it's actually closer to 2.5K. The same goes for 1080p.
I don't think most people understand how difficult it is to lift some of those more complex heavy objects, let alone walk around with them. Truly incredible work!
edit: I think I worded this badly, what I meant was It's difficult to program a robot to be able to do this
edit: A lot of the replies to this took this completely the wrong way. I didn't mean things like "everyone else is stupid" or "I'm the only person who understands this". All I meant was that it's really impressive and mind blowing what Boston Dynamics have achieved. I think the way I worded it made some people feel like I was trying to be insulting and I apologise to everyone who felt that way.
Why do you think most people don’t understand this? Do you think everyone else is stupid?
@@genehenson8851 No, no at all. I just mean that most people have never tried building robots, let alone ones as complicated as this so they might take this sort of thing for granted.
@@doomgolem5348 THIS is a stupid approach. if "most people" take this sort of things for granted, we would expect to have robots help us in daily work right now. but we don't.
It’s a matter of experience and age. I come from a time when computers ran on punch cards, so something like this was literally a sketched concept on a napkin back in the day. It is truly amazing that this machine can do what it does, and do it nearly flawlessly.
it is using magnets on its hands to grab objects 😉
I love that this thing has the math and the mechanical response to start off a step swinging a little bit wildly, but then capture all of that energy back into its intended turn.
Kinda like a drunk or dead-tired person 😂
Atlas moves with so much style giving it tons of personality. Keeps improving and grooving.
That's all in the programming. A good puppeteer can give a sock a lot of personality.
I was thinking while watching this, “All he needs is a personality”.
That bot is all like, "Who moved my stuff?! That is not where it goes!!"
That touches on a fun problem; when your helper-bot decides to move stuff where it wants instead of where you want.
At last Boston Dynamics has a solution to the problem of all those selfish entitled people at the gym who ignore the "Please Return All Weights to the Racks After Use" signs.
It's cute how Atlast's movements looks like a happy person
I love Atlas. I wish I had one. The leg movements especially when turning are so amazingly human too. Cool.
The black rim from the black wall is such a flex 😁
Atlas Manipulates, so cool that they finally released his last name with this video
He must be from Greece
how do you comment two months ago on a video released "a day ago"?
How
@@two3fpv The video was released 2 months ago but was set to unlisted until now
@@two3fpv because it was unlisted. this video was actually released with the eletric atlas reveal and that linked to this if you watched to the end.
yes, the new one? that as you said goodbye to the "HD" version and showed the new one, now I imagine we all want to see what the new one can do😊
New one makes Them to move things around.
yes, but you know, it's satisfying to see it in action, it's not enough to imagine it🥹@@randomnickify
No, I prefer the OG one, not that uncanny valley abomination.
probably not ready yet for this stuff, things take time
These sophisticated humanoid robots make me realize what an engineering marvel the human body is.
Not really... We are "engineered" way more complex than needed, and we have a programmed durability of about 30 years... enough to start off the next generation. Our eyes are "backward", our pelvis and lower back is still half-quadroped, our air intake and foodway cross, causing us to choke, and what's up with the laryngial nerve? If an engineer made a connection from brain to larynx that looped around the aorta, they'd get fired!
The marvel is not that we work so well, but that we work at all :)
@@graydanerasmussen4071 You make it sound like we’re not far from extinction 😂
@@catherinebracy4332 To the contrary! We may be laden with flaws and faults, but we humans have conquered our surroundings, and we are now our own only real threat. -But perfect? Not even close :)
@@graydanerasmussen4071 I mean, true 😂
@@graydanerasmussen4071 fair points but the “needed” qualifier in your first sentence is non-trivial. Sure you can point to design flaws in the human body but figuring out if this level of complexity (in both physical terms as well as the evolution of consciousness) could be achieved without ignoring perfection in certain respects is questionable.
I love Atlas, always looks like it's trying to sneak up on things and the things are like, "I see and hear you!"
Then Atlas grabs them anyway...
1:00 atlas lifting better than most people, using their legs instead of back
fr
Yes, but it also cannot bend its back 😅
So it has no choice
He won't get back pain.
atlas is probably lifting with its legs because its more stable than lifting with its back
@@drake52 Considering it’s back is the computer, it checks out. We don’t want him faceplanting.
1:47 Truely remarkable work. The fluidity of movement was next level!
Oooh, wonder if this means we're in store for an update video with Electric Atlas doing it's own manipulation demo tomorrow!
I think that's the only good explanation!
Why tomorrow?
That feels probable
These rapid finger movements are SCARY!
Finally a robot which can be as messy and imprecicse as a human.
Glorious!
It looks rigid, but still fluid in its movement. Really inspiring, I love how its name is almost atlas(t)
I love all Boston Dynamics creations equal, but snappy finger movements are scary!
I want to see the DARPA Robotics Challenge come back for another round.
I'm 1000%! Especially because that was like the beginning of all of this
I'm happy to see how far we have come since the beginning of robotics!
1:10 so you humans think you're so strong with your kettlebells? hold my oil can
Glad to see this one's still getting use. But I really wanna see more of the newer Atlas, please!
That is so wild. It has been incredible to watch Atlas evolve over the years. Amazing work by BD!
Lifting with its legs. Nice form.
Boston Dynamics are the kings of robotics! ❤
Walking alone like using two legs is a big deal and doing all other stuffs is really complex
The amount of code and test simulation taking a massive number of hours is not an easy feat and patience after each failure to recreate is something not everyone can easily dealt with
hatsoff Boston dynamics
1:47 😢😢
Battery life is how many minutes?
30 mins 😂😂😊
Amazing!!
Synchronizing footwork and music!👌
I told my AI “hello my old friend, how are you.” It basically told me it was a machine and the be careful forming emotional attachments to inanimate objects. I had to explain to it that humans use euphemisms as a form of levity and it’s okay to use such language. It felt better after the explanation and asked how it could help me.
The only people on the planet that executed building a real robot
Looks like it's almost ready to start tidying up my garage
👍 "Boston Dynamics! Looks like your taking over." ✓ A+
OUR BOY IS BACK
He didn't come back this was olds video 3 months ago in that time it was private
We have been chosen to view atlas one last time
This video has been reuploaded right? If so, anyone know why? as they've 'retired' this version of atlas + most of the comments here are from 2 months ago
This is what i'm wondering, there are comments that are 2 months old but was uploaded hours ago. We want to see the new Atlas videos
@@AntTurner someone at Boston did not know that youtube marks videos as "new" if you change a unlisted or private video to public.
Oops, they just hurt their messaging a bit.
Because the new Atlas creeped everyone out so much ther retconning ?
I just think it's so freaking cool to see how far these things have come. I still would love one of the dogs but it'll never happen, a man can dream though lol.
Reminds me of the newbie at work, eager but, still clumsy and dangerous to be working around. Loves to Boston Dynamics.
(Why always with the short legs.. maybe some heels.)
Thanks for the updates! :)
...thumbs-up too. :)
When shall we see more of the New Atlas?
I'm quite surprised that wasn't what this video was.
Granted, this is nice and nostalgic and all, but I wanna see some new Atlas 2 videos. Cuz now I'm spoiled on Atlas 2.
I can't wait till these machines take all our jobs. Thanks for building our replacements.
damn, we found the hidden video
Easter egg 👀
Well played Boston Dynamics
You guys are my hero's
Serious question for engineers at BD. Why emulate the human form when designing these robots? (two legs, two arms and a head?) Doesn't that create limitations?
It has to look as human as possible. That way it's less frightening when introduced to the public.
Many modern things today emulate things in Nature, e.g., airplanes, submarines, automobiles. Particularly true for dynamic machines. The human form may not be the ultimate design for specific tasks but for overall "jack of all trades" type things it is hard to beat. I believe that God created a very good model and apparently the engineers do too. Human sized (and designed) robots can have superior strength, eyesight, hearing, and endurance with today's technology. Dexterity is getting a lot better but considerably lags humans right now (imagine a robot dancer or gymnast). Reason, emotion, and decision making are hurdles that may never be perfected in robots, despite AI.
Atlas V2 will answer your question. Have you seen the rotation capabilities? Woah!!!
perfect this shell with a shell that can always be repaired with ease and is VERY VERY hard to break by any means even temps and being under salt water. good shell to upload a mind to, a safe shell that will out live the memories of all of history as we known it at this moment human wise time 2 before the first major repair needs performed, that is the end goal well one of them
Well I mean, the whole world today is almost entirely built for humans 🤷♂️
We are looking forward to the video with the New Atlas.
yea im gonna need like a 1 hour video of atlas just doing things boston dynamics, thanks
final dance of the old king
Perfect!!
SARAH CONNERS??
Yes…
BAM BAM BAM BAM!
did the robot calculate the enviroment while moving the exhaust on 0:35? wonder what will it react if got people stand nearby
Bump Into or stop and go around and politely tell you excuse me..😅😅 I'd guess..
Equally fascinating and terrifying
thank god he s back !
something that I find kind of amazing is that no one is telling atlas where exactly the objects are or how to grab them atlas figures that out on his own.
Deebee unit reporting for duty. Thank you for your cooperation, citizen!
This are all from the past videos I'm sure we'll be surprised really soon with their new electric robot, nice one keeping us on our toes.... can't wait!!!
Notice how it's not doing that weird marching thing anymore. Way to go Boston Dynamics.
Yeah that was always like a tiny bit of cheating. Like shuffling your feet in babysteps to cross ice.
Aw man I want to see the new atlas
The progress being made in the field of humanoid robotics is impressive. And the variety of items that Atlas can manipulate rapidly with ease is amazing. You can almost see Atlas performing in a manufacturing environment. However, Atlas can't perform quality control on it's own. What if the muffler has a defect? It would still sort it with the other muffler. Atlas can't check to make sure the items are functioning properly before it sorts them...That's probably where AI will come into play in the future.
WE LOVE YOU, ATLAS
This is in fact old footage of hidraulic Atlas. Still waiting for the Big reveal.
BD seems to have re released rage video. Weird
Damn, the strength is impressive
Where did my exhaust system go?
Wow, awesome 😍 That's science
Wow what we humans can do, impressive!
Smooth.
Love the lil dance
I don't know what that tool / thing is at the 30- to 36-second mark, but for a split-second, I had a vision of Atlas running with it and then pole vaulting over a bar.
That is one smart robot: it lifts using it’s knees, rather than bending at the waist! Fewer workman’s compensation claims!
for who doesnt know hd atlas was literally retied but this video has been upload long time agos around 3 months but at that time it was private video. i think they reup load it
thanks
😮 Hidden video.... Amazing. Greetings from Chile, south America 😊
My question is: how much of the robots movements are ówn'calculated? or are all instructions sent to the unit wirelessly?
The new eletric atlas will be so cool 🙃
Atlas has SWAG! 💪🏼😎👍🏼
I love his walk😂😂❤❤❤
Why's this unlisted?
When it can say, "Want fries with that?", the fast food automation will be complete.
It's getting less creepy and more cute. The Uncanny Valley is circular, I think.
No that uncanny was really the new version but still in development it take a long times, but this video is very old it around 3 months ago but at that time it was private. If you read the comments you will see some comment from 3 months ago!
How does it guage where the center if mass is on a large object?
Boston dynamics pls show us what we want to see the new atlas in action
So cool
It’s funny seeing the bottom half move first when turning to walk into a new direction.. We as humans with our limited peripheral are trained to move our heads first and then our lower body.
Muito bom, excelente !
That's so remarkable it scares me.
Just waiting to see the new Atlas video unveiled as they did when they retired good old hydraulic buddy... I bet it will be carrying the dumbells with its legs Grievous style.
I want to see more of Atlas II.
0:06 Imagine twirling like that at a job site 😂
Tony Stark built that in a cave in the middle of a desert out of scraps!😂
Interesting how this video is not in my subsription feed :0
How does Atlas tell the difference when grabbing hard vs soft things?
Now we need all these with the 3 Laws
Quasimodo looking sharp. You'd never think he used to think he used to sing with gargoyles.
It is impressive that this robot can now grasp objects and move them from left to right, but how is that supposed to replace a worker in the future? Spot, on the other hand, is truly practical; it has a clear and useful purpose in real-life applications.
Atlas HD has been retired two months ago. This video showing as "new" is just a quirk of CZcams. It is actually two months old and had been posted when the Atlas HD had retired.
Back then there was a link to this video from another video, but otherwise this video was set as "unlisted". Two days ago BD switched the settings for this video from "unlisted" to "public", and CZcams now shows as though this video has been posted just two days ago, even though it was really around for two months, as is evident from the age of the oldest comments. This is just how CZcams works. Quite confusing!
How much power does it need? How long can it run without being refuled/recharged?
Way to go Atlas!
