As a Brit your confusion amuses me. And yes, you caught me laughing. There are places like Bosham and Cosham where the 'sh' is pronounced like a 'z' near where I live. When they're in the news even the reporters get it wrong and the locals have stopped bothering to correct people.
Yesterday I thought that it's a pitty, that you haven't made a video for such a long time. And now there is one. It's like you've read my thoughts. Yay :D
I think it is common for people outside the UK to pronounce Leicester as "Lay-CHES-ter" and when they realised they were pronouncing it wrongly, they thought the spelling should have been "Lester"! Also, because of the 'h' in Manchester, it is pronounced differently obviously! Good video by the way :)
OMG da jubilee line goes through mi area!!! Same here when I went Norfolk for holiday my teacher who's from there had 2 keep helping me pronounce it properly :P
So funny! I never noticed that UL towns are spelt different from how they are pronnounced because...I don't know, I was just brought up saying them how everyone else says it. :)
The names are spelt and pronounced so weirdly because Britain has such a complicated linguistic history with all the times it's been invaded, and because Britain is an old country, so there's been plenty of time for names to become mangled
There's a town near me (I live in Massachusetts) named Norfolk that is pronounced like Norfuck.. And Worcester is pronounced Wister. Leicester is pronounced Lester.. And so on lol.
Damn you Justin. I'm back home in Suffolk (below Norfolk) right now, but you're performing there when I have to head back North to Leeds for uni D;< PS, where in Norfolk are you gonna be?
NOR= NORWAY/NORWEGIANS and FOLK means people in Norway :P Before there was many Norwegian people/Vikings in England and that was a place where there where many Norwegians/ Vikings thumbs up so he can see :)
Whenever someone says something about my accent or the way I say stuff I just say Shut up I'm Polish it's my excuse for everything xD I live in le U.K too btw :D
The name Norfolk has nothing to do with the Vikings. It's much older than that and means the land of the northern people (or folk) - same as neighbouring Suffolk was the land of the southern people. Incidentally, Norfolk is not a region but a county and once was the northern half of the Anglo-Saxon Kingdom of East Anglia.

The names are spelt and pronounced so weirdly because Britain has such a complicated linguistic history with all the times it's been invaded, and because Britain is an old country, so there's been plenty of time for names to become mangled
