    As a Brit your confusion amuses me. And yes, you caught me laughing.
    There are places like Bosham and Cosham where the 'sh' is pronounced like a 'z' near where I live. When they're in the news even the reporters get it wrong and the locals have stopped bothering to correct people.

    I think it is common for people outside the UK to pronounce Leicester as "Lay-CHES-ter" and when they realised they were pronouncing it wrongly, they thought the spelling should have been "Lester"! Also, because of the 'h' in Manchester, it is pronounced differently obviously! Good video by the way :)

    The names are spelt and pronounced so weirdly because Britain has such a complicated linguistic history with all the times it's been invaded, and because Britain is an old country, so there's been plenty of time for names to become mangled

    There's a town near me (I live in Massachusetts) named Norfolk that is pronounced like Norfuck.. And Worcester is pronounced Wister. Leicester is pronounced Lester.. And so on lol.

    NOR= NORWAY/NORWEGIANS and FOLK means people in Norway :P
    Before there was many Norwegian people/Vikings in England and that was a place where there where many Norwegians/ Vikings

    Well there's a Norfolk, VA and I always pronounce it "Nor-Folk" not "Nor-F**k". I think it's their pronunciation, but then again I don't live there.

    The name Norfolk has nothing to do with the Vikings. It's much older than that and means the land of the northern people (or folk) - same as neighbouring Suffolk was the land of the southern people. Incidentally, Norfolk is not a region but a county and once was the northern half of the Anglo-Saxon Kingdom of East Anglia.
