    It's quite funny to me that a lot of people just go to a city to visit places that you can do basically in any big city, like the cat cafe, neon golf and whatever.
    I think it's so easy to put together a program in Budapest that is basically for free.
    - Castle district (Bazar, Halaszbastya, Mathias church, Royal Palace) and if you pay the entrance fees its basically already 2 days of program. (I really recommend the cave hospital)
    - Gellert hill can easily fill out a morning, you can even combine it with one of the baths (Rudas or Gellert), Citadella is closed but you can still have the beautiful views.
    - From Nehru to the Parlament you can have a 1.5 hour walk next to the Danube which is especially nice around sunset with beautiful views that cannot be replicated elsewhere.
    - I would highly recommend to walk along Andrassy avenue until Varosliget. Beautiful buildings with a really nice park at the end. Also there is Vajdahunyad castle with its interesting history at the park and you can come back with one of Europe's first metro line.
    -House of terror is a really nice one if you want to learn about Communism and the Nazi occupation of Hungary, which also kinda explains the shoes and the state of the Jewis district.
    -District 5 in general, well maintained beautiful buildings and museums.
    - Ruin bars are interesting, but the popular ones are a big ripoff with sometimes double the prices compared to less popular ones. If you want authentic ruin bars than you should avoid the big ones.

    The shoes on the Danube embankment for me stand for all victims of oppressive regimes, like Remembrance Day, the day before yesterday here in The Netherlands. I always have a candle with me when I go there, light it and reflect on all the atrocities people have inflicted on their peers (and they still keep on doing that) in remembrance of all the people who suffered from oppression. It is a very emotional place for me, also Kossuth tér which is very close by, also with a very dark history. A nap, amikor a Duna vörösre változott. My father was there, he saw his fellow students and citizens shot down. He never wanted to talk about all the things he went through, it was just too much of a trauma for him. So yes, this is a very emotional place for me ...

      I went to Budapest a month ago and it was rubbish. When i land i got stopped by nothing to declare officers and my small ryanir holdall was searched by officer 03497. I believe this was a racial targetted search because i was the only asian ethnicity at that point in the hall. He asked where in UK i flew from and when i replied he did not believe me, i gave him my both inbound and outbound ticket. Made a complaint to HU government and the airport, no response.
      I went to a bar and spoke to this estonian man who lived in budapest, he advised that part of the world hate colored ethnicity, unless you are caucasian you will be look down on even though you are wealthier than them.
      If you are going to Budapest and you are non caucasian please reconsider because internet saying Budapest is great is a lie. Spent your hard earned money elsewhere

    I watch those types of tiktoks a lot because it gives me a little feeling of being there. Honestly though, I can understand why you haven't done a river cruise. I took my first one in September because my daughter had never been. We did a 1 hour night cruise and it was the perfect way to see all of the buildings lit up at night. I had planned for us to do the ferry as I had done in previous visits but sadly that is no longer running.

  • @philstansfield

    In regards to the first short and using the Trams. I think its more the fact that everywhere has buses. Everywhere has walking routes. A lot of places have subways (or at the very least a train system). Most places do not still have an active tram system. So whilst the whole of the public transport system is very good....people look at the trams a little differently and place them higher on their lost of what to take.

    • @StuffedCabbageAdventures
      @StuffedCabbageAdventures  Před 3 měsíci +1

      That actually raises an interesting point, while I've seen trams in many European cities there are indeed places where they don't exist, so you are right it can be something new and unusual for some people. For them the tram line 2 running along the river with the older vehicles can be a very special treat 😊

      Hey there! Glad to hear you enjoy what we do 😊 in general I believe spring and autumn are perhaps the most ideal. Risk of occasional rain is slightly higher but summer can become super hot and winter with the Christmas markets is probably the most popular times for tourists. Luckily we don't have the same over tourism like Prague, so basically any time of the year can be enjoyed, but in my opinion middle of spring or middle of autumn is the most ideal times for a visit 😊

Your videos helped me to calculate what should I focus on this time, so many thanks. think, I am going to be unpleasantly surprised by the rise in prices. gosh, in 2015 Budapest really was a nice budget option, that gave you much for fair and reasonable price. in 2020, just before Covid, it was alredy very pricy. • @StuffedCabbageAdventures
      @StuffedCabbageAdventures  Před 3 měsíci +1

      That's actually a nice question because there are actually 3 different ways to experience the caves under Buda Castle: There is the Hospital in the Rock which is a guided museum where you learn the history of some interesting parts of those caves and how they were turned into a bunker/hospital and what that place went through during WW2. There is also the Labyrinth which is a bit of a campy/wacky experience, you'll explore parts of the caves sometimes in pitch black darkness, with some smoke and lights and some weird statues, I found it kinda fun :) Then there is the one that's for Nature enthusiasts where you are guided through some of the caves and cellars that were created from the caves. For this last one however you cannot just turn up, you'll need to pre-book the tour via GetYourGuide.com, just search for Buda Castle Cave Walking Tour, its provided by Duna-Ipoly Nemzeti Park Igazgatóság.

      That tower is called the Huszártorony or Hussar Tower and it is made out of wood. I couldn't find any reasoning on the color but I would assume the reason for the distinct color compared to the rest of the building is because of the material it's made of :) Up until now I didnt know much about it, but thanks to your question I looked it up and it is called Hussar tower because it sits on the back of the church like a hussar on a horse. Because of this placement it needs to be light in weight, which is why its made of wood. I have also learned something today :)

      I just love the slow stroll on the banks of the river at my own pace. Granted, its easier and saves time to go for a river cruise. In all honesty, most the cruises that offer drinks and other services just add more cost to the price of the ticket, but the real star is Budapest itself, so going for a simple barebones cruise experience can still be very nice in my opinion and you can learn a lot about what you see on the way. Then again, a lot of people praise the unlimited drink cruises, so there is certainly an audiance for that as well :)

      @@misa4165 yes, because Good Friday is one part of the festivity and Easter Sunday and Easter Monday are the next, there are a few stores that let their employees off to rest for Saturday too but not many 😊

    I really really REALLY don't recommend Széchenyi Baths. I don't care how historical it is, but my problem is that they have these huge parties there, and once when I went during the day at the weekend, I actually stepped in a condom wrapper in the water, sooo... yeah, that was it for me. Never going back again. Maybe it was an isolated incident, but for me that was enough..

      Yeah, to be fair I really don't appreciate those SPArty-s happening there, it just takes away from the historical prestige of the place.

      @@StuffedCabbageAdventures I like Rudas much more. I know this video is mostly about what to do when you come to Budapest to visit, but for a bit longer term, if someone likes baths, I would highly recommend Zsigmondy card. basically it's 5000 HUF for a year, and you can get into Rudas for 4 hours for 3500 HUF, and honestly, personally I never spend more than that, so I think it's quite a good deal. Even if someone is here for 1-2 months, if they would go 2 times, it already is cheaper :D

    Your local perspective videos are the best. Except for one or two other non local videos made the rest are lacking, not inspiring and poor music selections in the edit removing the historic vibe of what Budapest really seems to illustrate in your videos. I am coming in the fall for two weeks solo slow travel of this stunning city!

    For me , the Hungarian people I met in Budapest, were very intolerant of anyone who didnt speak their language. I was even screamed at in a supermarket because I didnt understand. How ignorant .

      I'm sorry to hear you had a bad experience like this. I know there are people who should change their attitude as such behaviour doesn't do good for business, but trust me there are many nice and helpful Hungarians who welcome foreigners and are grateful for your visit.

      Those were just bad people in general, every country has them unfortunately. We may be from the same country but I do not claim them.

    Bolt taxi drivers are aholes. I don't recommend them. Never rode with them since I don't take taxis but whenever I come across them the drivers are awful.
