I am so glad I found this video, thank you! I will be doing this as a spring /summer project. What kind/brand of paint do you recommend? I have never done this before. And for the top of a dresser, would you recommend the same steps? Do you have any photos /videos of what the top looks like?

Hi Joy! I just added 3 pictures of the top of this piece to the post about it on my site. You can see them near the end of the post, here: www.abbottsathome.com/diy-gray-chalk-paint-furniture-makeover/
Most chalk paints or chalk-like acrylic paints work great. Occasionally I just need to add a little water to some so that they apply smoothly.
But, you can actually make your own chalk paint from normal wall paint. It's cheaper and easier to get the exact color you want when you make your own. Here's the recipe I use: www.abbottsathome.com/diy-chalk-paint-recipe-plaster-of-paris/

I want to do this but with black as the first layer and then teal, turquoise or even a more subtle blue or green for the second layer and then add a metallic glaze

I love, love, love this painting technique and the finished dresser. I'm going to try this on a dresser I'm painting this weekend. I was wondering about the sanding sponge. Is that a special item you can purchase or is it just a regular sponge with a scrubber on the other side for dishes/pot & pans? I've never heard of a sanding sponge. I'm pretty new to furniture painting. Thanks for your help & painting videos. So helpful :-)

Hi Jai!! You can buy sanding sponges next to sandpaper in the hardware store. Just buy one that’s 180 to 200 grit for this. And, good luck. 😊
