Olaplex - could you confirm this: I am imagining that the shampoo is at a higher pH in order to maximise the power of number 3? Disulphide bonds break under reducing conditions (low ph, lots of H+); and higher ph = more oxidising conditions and better chance of disulphides bonds forming and not breaking?

Stylist here, it has to be slightly above natural hair ph to pull all the crud and grime off in my opinion. A great use it to rotate I always use three diff lines and switch it up

For breakage around the face remember if you bleach you your hair and get a stronger ‘money piece’ that fragile hair is very bleached leading to more breakage. ALSO when you apply conditioning product to your ends its easy to miss your shorter face framing pieces. Make sure you apply conditioner, masks, and heat protecter to the pieces around the face

I have realized PH balanced haircare (among other things) is way more important than what’s labeled “cleanâ€. I would love to hear your take on it all! I have had more reactions (scalp, breakouts/hives, etc.) when I’ve used products labeled as “cleanâ€.

Yes I'm so confused by heat protection. Do I need a separate heat protection than what I use for blow drying. Meaning what if I blow dry and straighten same day is the blow dry spray still good on hair thats already dry? Also can I use the same spray for second day hair to straighten or curl. So yes please heat protection video. Also ingredients not look for that guarantee heat protection!

can you please do a video on how my hair gets piece-y on the bottom no matter if its dirty hair or freshly washed? like, it looks like dreads/see through ends and clumps together from bottom to middle of my hair. if i brush it, it becomes cohesive and separates but then it clumps up again after a few hours.

I try to wash my hair as little as possible (for me about 4 days) however by like day three it’s so greasy that I feel like I have to put it in French braids to hide the grossness. I put lots of oils etc in it first, is this still going to cause breakage? Should I find a better idea?

So, so pleased to have found you! I definitely have protein overload and have now started the process to fix this based on many of your recommendations.
QUESTION 1: I have the same hair situation as you, but not colour treated. Are there equivalent shampoo/conditioner sets for non-colour treated hair that match your faves (like the Redken, Purology, etc)?
QUESTION 2: I’d be interested in how a Mason Pearson boar hair brush helps redistribute the oils at your scalp to the rest of your hair. They’re expensive, but iconic for a reason (over 130 years in business) and it might mean you need less products to get through the week - plus they last like 50 years with proper care - yes that’s right, no new hairbrush every 4 months! 😲

I’d love some “quarantine bleach recovery advice†stuff!
I fell into the platinum blonde trap over quarantine and went from black to platinum at home and ended up with a short cut (think marilyn in gentlemen prefer blondes short) and it’s so cute but it’s still very porous - so I can’t properly glaze it yet + closed salons - and very damaged! I used olaplex no.3 on freshly shampoo’d hair and use the hair mask one as a conditioner (you recommended that one, thank you!) I still get tiny pieces of hair breaking off though 😂
There’s tonnes of people in my situation that did a at home bleach job and are looking for drastic hair recovery advice they can implement now instead of waiting 2 months for the salons to open!

Hey Abbey ! Thanks so much for such informative videos . I always learn a lot watching them.
After doing a lot of research specially with dermatologist they truly do not recommend washing once a week. I personally saw a huge change once i stop ✋ washing my hair everyday and you for sure can confirm the benefits . But … Abbey I’ve seen you hair doesn’t look clean in a few videos (like this one ) it looks opaque and just a bit dirty 🤔.

When using a mask before shampooing: to shampoo the mask out of the hair... do we only shampoo the scalp and just let the shampoo and water runs through where we had the mask in our hair or do we actually apply shampoo to the mid and ends of the hair to ensure that we shampoo that mask out of our hair?

    • @gracieinnes8252

I know, you know it, but it is so difficult to find the ph of shampoos!! Plus I tht I had high porosity hair, since it dries so fast, but in doing the ‘strand in the water’ test, my hair stays on the surface. So that’s low porosity, right? Plus I have slightly wavy, thinning hair that frizzes. Every day, is a bad hair day. Trying so hard to figure a good hair routine that works!

    • @teresasorrels3685

Contacted Aveda, to find out the ph on one of their shampoos. Their answer was, a no answer. They said that info was proprietary 😂, but rest assured, that all their products are ph balanced. So, to me, that means their product’s ph leans to the high end.

Best drugstore hair products??? I’ve recently learned about makeup, have a life long love of skincare knowledge, and now I want to learn about haircare and diet. My hair is in mediocre shape right now. It’s colored, “bleachedâ€, shoulder length, medium thickness, and I use hot tools. I am about to invest in the pH balanced shampoo and conditioner you recommended in a different video I watched but I’d still like to know about more drugstore options. It’s gonna cost me $40 for the shampoo and conditioner alone.

When you say you wash your hair once a week, does that mean that you only wet your hair once/week? Or do you wet and style without washing on non-wash days? My hair is styled in a chin length bob and I'd sure like to get away from the every other day wash program but there's no way I can do that with a once-a-week style!
