Thank you! My hair is always dry after swimming so Iâll definitely try this out! Do you find your skin is quite sensitive after swimming as mine always stings and feels sensitive and Iâve been swimming for a few months now?
@@PriyaS10 that sounds like dryness to me. I got similar stinging when I did swim team. Make sure youâre washing the chlorine off your body with a gentle body wash ASAP and throw on some lotion. If there are particular areas that are more prone to stinging, you could put on some petroleum jelly there. Hope this helps!! And good luck:)
@@natalieann thank you! Iâll definitely try that
Tip for applying spray to your part: Spray it on your pinky, and then dab that along your part. Minimizes the greasy look significantly.
I am a sunscreen fanatic, so UV protection for my hair is really intriguing. Would you consider doing a video about hair products that offer UV protection and your personal recommendations? Itâs hard to look at every single product and not only find the right language in their claims but also know where the UV protection is coming from. It would be a useful video if you havenât already done it.

Competitive lifelong swimmer here. Always wet your hair in the shower before swimming too. Hair can only hold but so much water. They do make chlorine remover shampoo but itâs drying so deep condition afterwards. Swim caps help as well with UV and chlorine damage if youâre swimming laps of course. đââïž
Swim caps helps a lot, not only in swimming laps. I wear in the beach too, and recommend to everybody.
As a swimmer, load up on leave in conditioner/oil on ur hair to protect it, and LOTS of sunscreen
Is there any products YOU recommend for that?
I have highlights, blond/red and went to the beach yesterday. Today my hair is fried because I didnât do anything to it at all đ today my hairstylist saw me on the way to drop of my children and she gasped lol SO here I am, Googling what to do đ because I did never cared that much about my hair up until recently, I donât really know many products and if they work or not.
Iâm also terrified of over spending, not liking the product or it not working!
I wanted to prepare before I go on holiday to Portugal which will be soon.
I just know itâs going to die over there with the heat đ
Love all things sun protection & hair caređ such great advice!! Appreciate your research & all you do!
Rocking my bubble ponytail as Iâm on my way to the beach now! With a hat and umbrella of course âïž Great tips, thanks Abbey!

I absolutely love the bumble & bumble UV Protectant spray, it smells so nice and has so many dual purposes. Great video Abbey, you are killing it with your research đđđœ

@abbeyyung I have been your subscriber for a few short months and I have been binge watching your videos. Wow thatâs all I can say thank you thank you thank you so much! I have implemented lots of your hair tips and products recommendations and my hair has never look or feel as good as it does now. I even use sunscreen inside my apartment to protect my face from the sun and the Uv light.

Super useful and comprehensive video on this topic⊠I hope this year I donât need to chop off 10cm from my hair. Love your channel â€ïž
Your hair looks great today! I like how you styled it.
I personally never leave me house without having some uv protection to the hair. It is kinda tricky to know how much each product actually protects since, in general, no SPF or anything is labeled. Iâve been loving the EVY UV/HEAT HAIR MOUSSE and the ELEVEN AUSTRALIA MIRACLE HAIR TREATMENT as a leave-in. The later protects against chlorine, heat, and make your hair silky soft too. Any oils is a hard pass.
Do you apply the leave in before you go out in the sun or when youâre styling your hair ?
@@parinazaz4044 after the shower or when Iâm styling my hair mainly buy I might add some product if I know imma be out in intense sun

Thank you for the coconut oil recommendation! As a natural blonde (who loves to swim) I have tried every other hack in the book to stop my hair from turning green. It's such a hassle! I have been avoiding swimming and getting my hair wet for a couple of years to skirt the issue. I will be swimming this afternoon loaded down with coconut oil.

Hi Abbey â€, Hope you're having a lovely weekend đ! Great video đč đ
Wow. This video was so informative and helpful. Iâve been struggling with chlorine hair since taking up weekly swimming! I feel like I need to shampoo with a chlorine removing shampoo and then my normal shampoo to really get it out. I like your comment about not being so afraid to wash your hair
Exactly what I needed, thank you!!!!! I was doing lots of wrong things, I had no idea how to protect my hair, and I was afraid of washing my hair every day (I have a pool at home). Thank you, thank you
Thx for the info, it was great â€
Abbey could you do a video on how to look after your hair when doing skin care - how to put hair up, what clips or hair bands to use? How to keep hair from nit getting skin care on it x
Thank you đ I am so happy to see this video!! On Sephora I'm seeing AQUIS Prime water defense pre wash. I'd love to know what you think đ€
Last summer I wanted to go to a chlorine pool and my hair stylist told me to drench my hair with water (not the pool water), then put in leave in conditioner. My hair was bleached at the time so there was the risk of my hair going green, but my hair was still the right color when I got out the pool that day, so I highly recommend doing this method!
extra points if you put an oil before!
Hello! I have a question- do we know what it means when a product says âUV protectionâ ? Is it a regulated claim? Or more of a marketing claim? With that last question, I wonder then if it is just a marketing claim if there is a huge difference between a product that says UV protection vs environmental protection. Iâm suspecting any product can say whatever they want if thereâs antioxidants in it- but I am cynic đ was wondering if you knew anything more about this. Thanks!
The hair oil from oliplex has UV protection in it!! Claims so on the bottle. Just giving an example of a product that specifiesâ uv protectionâ the rest of your question I couldnât answer to because I do not know đ
I cant answer fully but I know suncream is regulated for UV protection. But things like moisturiser or foundation isnt. They can say they have uv protection and say like 30+ but in reality if you used as much product as you needed to get that protection half the bottle would be gone. (I have seen someone try it and it was far more make up than anyone would use) so I would assume same goes for hair stuff it might say Uv protection on it. May even be regulated but youd probably find youd have to use so much to get that protection its not even fisable. Unless its actual suncream I wouldnt trust anything that said Uv protection on it (even shirts)
I was wondering the same thing! Like since there isnât any regulation couldnât any leave in with UV protection technically have like SPF 1 and still have that as a claim
I'm on the hunt for a product to protect my daughter's very easily damaged hair, and so far every product (between 5 and 10 products) with a "UV protection" claim that I've put in InciDecoder has had an actual UV filter in it. I do wish hair products had actual SPF labels, though. Y'all are probably right that the presence of UV filters is still not enough info to know how protective it is.
đ
Great video đđ»
Coola makes a sunscreen spray specifically for your scalp and hair! Itâs super easy to apply and doesnât leave the hair greasy.
Sunbum makes a sunscreen spray for your hair! I love it because it doesnt make my hair too greasy or gross.
Thank you for this video. Before I watched this video I bought the Klonane sun protective oil for hair and I would like your opinion on that product. Also, another tip for protecting your hair is to use a cap or those beautiful hats for the beach.
Would love to know your suggestions Abbey for a lip balm sun screen to help protect from the sun rays while out in the sun this summer
the sun bum lip balm has 30spf. itâs amazing, iâve been using it for years
Thank you so much!!
Abbey, what is the best lip SPF??? I have a feeling you have tried them all. đ
Love this video and all your tips for summer! Pool water is always a pain! I have colored blonde hair and I always soak my hair with water (shower, hose or even a water bottle at the beach) and spray with leave in conditioner before entering a pool or ocean so that my hair is already soaked so it doesnât soak up the pool water or ocean water. This has always helped my hair stay healthier and not turn green!

i agree with the dyed dark hair being less vulnerable. i had died my hair in 2019 to dark brown (almost black) and my hair was shiny, thick, and not that demaged even when i didnât take proper care of my hair. now, after bleaching my hair because i did want to have roots showing while growing my hair it gets demaged pretty easily. my hair is so thin now compared to when i had dark hair
Iâm excited to go to the river!
I found 2 visors and a huge sun hat on Amazon with (they claim) it has spf built in. I love them and my sunscreen. I set my sunscreen with powder sunscreen. đ„°
I was wondering if you could review shampoo and conditioner bars. Trying to be more eco friendly. Love your channel!
Coola has a spray sun screen for the scalp I like it for my part and my ears. I also think banana boat has one too, I am not 100% confident that's the brand because I have just used the coola one but there is one you can buy at target.
Yes banana boat, sun bum and supergoop have a version of hair / scalp sunscreen. I havenât tried it yet.
A good swim cap would be great for those who do laps daily. Any suggestions for anyone with lots of hair?
I never thought about UV protection for my hair although I have jet black poker straight hair, which is good I guess. But yeah beach and pools really dry out and damage your hair. I used to be a swimmer in uni and my hair was always parched
I'm going to Hawaii for three weeks this summer and I plan on being in the water A LOT! I'm SO nervous about my hair health while I'm there. I've just gotten into the habit of washing once per week and I don't want to mess that up by washing more frequently while I'm there. I'll be using lots of coconut oil and leave in conditioner for sure. I have super fine hair with breakage that I've been trying to repair. Any tips?
Aveda makes a really good sunscreen/ hair protectant in a spray form. It works really well.
When you apply a leave in spray like this (I shower at night) how long does the protection last?? Avedaâs webpage says â72 hoursâ which sounds too good to be true.
@@lozafam Iâm not sure. I only use it when I swim and then wash my hair after.
My blonde balayage turned yellow and bronze and orange just a few days all day in the sun lol
Thanks so much
My mom is a hairstylist and always made me rinse my hair and put conditioner in it before going in the pool. Always worked to keep my hair healthy, though I did not swim regularly.
Which conditioner you use?
Thanks for making this video. I have band camp during the summer and that means I will be out in the sun so I have to take care of meh hair
Awesome đ thanks
Can you do a video on breakage vs growth???
Your hair is very beautiful today. Please make a video showing how you style your hair.

I love geeking out especially on spf articles. I had written something on Facebook about sunscreen. A woman said that sunscreen is toxic. Oh man, I linked so many dermatologist on CZcams explaining that is a myth... I literally told her sunscreen is an anti cancer drug that we can use to prevent sun damage and skin cancer!. I linked Dr. Shereen Idriss, Dr. Dray and doctorly...
Some sunscreen brands are very toxic. Research it. AND those spray sunscreens are the worst culprit
@@krystademilio1256 according to the EWG? I only use what the dermatologist and Estiction suggest.... The EWG is BS.
Can you talk about how to reapply spf when you have makeup on?
As someone who has an XXL head because of my hair I always do at least half my hair up in a bun to make it possible to get an XL squeeze on my head. My husband says I am an ajumma because his whole family is burning out in the sun and I always come with sunblocks, hat, umbrella and chair. I'm actually upgrading to a cabana so I'm not chasing shade
My hair feels rough, itâs thinning and fine, gets tangled so quickly, and gets oily at the end of the day after being washed. Do you have any tips? I use clarifying shampoo once a week , a hydrating hair mask once a week, and a scalp brush when I wash it.
June 21 officially summer in Northern hemisphere â
Ok love your lipstick what brand/ color is it? Thanks again
Can you please talk about how you got rid off dark under eyes?
Very informative, thank you! I'm very curious about whether or not actives we use on our face like tretinoin, vitamin C, acids, etc. would have any benefit to the scalp and therefore the hair in the long term?
đđI really appreciate your feedback.you have been selected as a great winnerđ. Quick text me via the info âïžâïžabove to acknowledge your prizeđ.Thank you
How do I apply sunscreen to my scalp? Just regular sunscreen applied to your scalp and roots? Or spray the uv hair protectant?
I woke up with snow on the ground this morning đ
If you don't wash your hair after being in the water, does the coconut oil leave your hair greasy when it has dried?
I have dark hair, but it is very fine, so gets bleached by the sun easily. I'm embracing my silver hair, so I'm worried it will yellow in the sun, because my brown hair does! I have had trouble finding a protectant that isn't greasy. Love hearing your suggestions!
I have the same concern
Sun bum..says sea spay salt )..but it doesn't do that coarse hair crunchy beach thing! I am 100 gray/ silver and it bleaches terribly! In the sun.

Back in Nov I cut my hair supper short pixie due to damage. Itâs about chin length now, short bob. Weâre headed to Peanut Island I. A couple of weeks and Iâm looking for products and techniques that are both healthy for me and the environment.
You can also minimize the absorption of chlorine and salt by saturating the hair with clean water first. Then you can go in with coconut oil to protect the hair, but you've already cut its ability to absorb all the ick by saturating it first.
Can you use argon oil or any other oils instead?
Could you review Dae hair products. Like the prickly pear oil or the monsoon moisture mask?
I am curious to see if they are good or not
I find that, in addition to all of this that you have discussed here that damages hair, most of my damage comes from pony tails and hair clips. Iâm looking forward to spending a LOT of time on the beach (under an umbrella) with tons of sunscreen. The salt, the sun, the wind, the water, and the hair clips. YIKES. I always get so blonde in the summer. NOTE: copper II sulfate pentahydrate is BLUE RASPBERRY JOLLY RANCHER blue, not green, so Iâm not sure about the results of that experiment. I coat my hair coconut oil and heavy conditioner before I get in the ocean and that seems to help with the drying.
Ooo but maybe the blue copper and the yellow (blonde) hair mix to make green?
@@marzlydon846 Ooh. Good thought!Perhaps đ€the sodium hypochlorite bleach in chlorine water displaces the copper which makes copper II chloride, which is actually green? đ€·đ»ââïž Hard to know.
Yes, The blue copper and the yellow in the hair make it appear green.
Iâm confused, do you get your hair wet before applying the coconut oil and leave in conditioner, or do you just put in on dry hair and then go swim?
Curly girl here, I use the pool and hot tub daily. Is it safe to clarify daily? No way I'm putting oil on my hair and ruining my hot tub water. I wear my hair up but a bit always gets wet at the neck line.
How about a video on humidity and hair because I am a poof ball all summer long
Do you just use aloe and use the head scrubber on wet hair in shower for the scalp?
I've been getting my hair bleached for about 6 months. I'm really worried about the chlorine ruining it. My stylist told me to bring purple shampoo with me on my trip. I normally use that one once a week. Is it okay to use that everyday my hair is exposed to chlorine? I have a bunch of bandanas I plan to wear while at the pool.
im so excited to go to a resort đđ

Quick question, what do you recommend for Alopecia? Prevent more hair loss? Heard Genetics, diet, stress and lack of Vitamin D could've cause this hair problem.
If I end up getting sun block on the ends of my hair will it protect my hair on the ends
Hi! I have been meaning to try the ACV rinse from dp hue you have recommended in several of your videos;however, I was just at target and saw that Head & Shoulders has a ACV rinse and decided to try it since its more affordable and I did not have to wait for it to ship. I have been recently suffering from an itchy scalp even after just washing my hair. Could this be a dupe? Would be curios to see you do a comparison. I washed my hair with it today and so far my scalp feels great with zero itch

What lipgloss or combo are you wearing?
The bumble and bumble heat protector- can you use it on dry, blow dry hair?? It wonât mess up your style?

@@katelynroundell707 do you use it on dry styled hair to protect your air from sun damage?
Yippee, coffee in hand, and summer hair Help!

Oh, so protecting the scalp means protecting just the scalp that is exposed. So, if you style your hair with a part that is The Scalp that's exposed and needs sun protection applied to it. The rest of your scalp is, more or less, safe. Yeah, I definitely went in to that part of the video thinking a sunscreen or UV protect spray over the whole topmof your head.

Does the bumble and bumble weigh the hair down or get greasy?
No

Love this information. You always show the research to back up your suggestions. I have natural blonde hair. As a child my hair was so light it was white. I lived in the pool every single day as a child. My hair dresser told my mom to use baking soda(make a runny paste with water) to get the chlorine out and therefore the green my hair would turn. I always rinsed my hair after swimming and no longer had green hair.
This is a bad idea. Baking soda is very alkaline, so not good for your hair! It's like bleach, but the opposite way. It still blows your cuticles open and causes damage. Just use a clarifying ir chelating shampoo, or a swimmer's shampoo.
Well this makes sense since copper oxidizes green and iron oxides rust red.
Lol when your alarm went off I thought it was mineđ
I taught swimming in highschool and I built up so much chlorine in my hair, even after using a special shampoo, that when I got my hair cut, my hair would literally bend with the scissors instead of actually cutting. Hairdressers hated me.
