  • On this episode, I will show you how to make a custom sized Concrete Shower curb and save time vs traditional methods. Unlike other methods, with concrete you can make any width or height curb you design. Shower curbs are made of many materials, typically wood framing and then covered by a cement board backer followed by a water proofing membrane. Other systems such as Schulter shower curbs and quite expensive. Using Concrete saves money and is much more durable than other methods. Plus it is easy to use and lasts forever. Excellent choice for the DIYer and budget conscious people.

    Couple things. Need pre slope. Pebbles around the drain. Also never run hardie into your mortar. Hardie is known for wicking moisture.
    Pre slope first. Then pan liner and do your curb pour at that point. It’s a fight to get pan liner to fold at curb. But you get a concrete curb with a pan liner and zero punctures in the liner

      Watch my redgard video. I also did the preslope and then add 6" synthetic fabric at all edges and corners and then 6 coats of redgard. No pan liner needed. Also watch the oatey drain video to see how I did it.

    Great idea.I would have covered the floor entirely with cement board, poured the curb and waterproofed the whole thing with Red Guard.

      I did actually do that but installed cement board after and then waterproofed with redguard (plus mesh at seams)

    Was taught 30 yrs ago to use Portland and sand mix And if you ever had to bust one up you'll understand why.

    • @TheLastNinjaBuilder
      @TheLastNinjaBuilder  Před 9 měsíci +1

      But why would you have to bust one up? This will last forever. Concrete is stronger with rocks in it.

    "This is one of a kind, I don't think I've seen anybody doing this"
    Yeah, there's a reason why you've never seen anybody doing this...

      And why is that? No explanation. Its because they want to sell you an expensive prefab curb or do it the old school outdated way using (2) 2x4's stack up then hotmopped or rubber membrane. This is new revolutionary technology. Nothing bad about it

    Actually this method is being used in many parts of the world without issue.

    Why not pour the concrete before the backer board? what size studs did you use? it looks like 2x4 which are 3.5 inches wide so how did you end up with a 3.5 inch high curb AFTER tile? how long did you wait before you removed 2x4's? did you spray with water? did you let it cure before tiling? did the wood support on top leave lines? did you smooth it out? you left every single thing I wanted to see out of the video lol....

      @TheLastNinjaBuilder  Před měsícem

      Good question. I put tile on both the bathroom floor and on top of the curb. It makes it 3.5" tall still

    How long do you need to wait to tile over concrete curb?

  • @markcofer8162
    @markcofer8162 Před 2 měsíci

    why do you need to screw sliding door bottom?

    • @TheLastNinjaBuilder
      @TheLastNinjaBuilder  Před 2 měsíci

      That is correct you don't need a screw for the sliding door typically. The screws in the concrete keep it from moving around ever.

    Preslope? Liner? Weep protection?

    • @TheLastNinjaBuilder
      @TheLastNinjaBuilder  Před 9 měsíci

      Yes in the next video I show that part as I install the drain. Preslope is after the curb, redguard for liner and weep pretection in the drain using gravel.
