My deck has a brick/block border that is about 12 inches wide (previous owner was planning to build an addition on the house). Inside that I have a regular 2x6 framing. But I still need to attach the decking to the 12 inch area. The boards run laterally so will need to be attached their entire length versus just the ends like in this example. So the first three boards will be attached to the brick/block area. I like you idea, but I am concerned the anchors will work loose over time, especially since the boards are right at where the steps to the yard meet the deck. I was thinking of using Tapcons instead. Main problem is their color, but I figure i can paint them to match. So my question is how well to the plastic anchors hold up and have you ever trued Tapcon screws for this purpose ?

    • @TheLastNinjaBuilder

No wobbling at all. Be sure to use 5/8" anchor bolts but you may need to drill out the hole in bottom of post base bigger. 1/2" hole is standard but not as sturdy.

Why not pour the concrete before the backer board? what size studs did you use? it looks like 2x4 which are 3.5 inches wide so how did you end up with a 3.5 inch high curb AFTER tile? how long did you wait before you removed 2x4's? did you spray with water? did you let it cure before tiling? did the wood support on top leave lines? did you smooth it out? you left every single thing I wanted to see out of the video lol....

Couple things. Need pre slope. Pebbles around the drain. Also never run hardie into your mortar. Hardie is known for wicking moisture. Pre slope first. Then pan liner and do your curb pour at that point. It’s a fight to get pan liner to fold at curb. But you get a concrete curb with a pan liner and zero punctures in the liner

When I removed the cast iron tub at my rental property, I found the biggest rat nest I've ever seen! It was an ideal condition for the rats. The house was built in 1950 and when they plumbed the drain line they cut a huge opening that led to the crawlspace under the house. It's an old nest and I made sure every vent and open around the house was properly covered, and I patched the opening around the drain.

True story... I did a bathroom remodel a few months ago. We got a bid from a company to remove the tube, the surround (that was laminateed), and the vanity. We were supplying a new tub, a new surround, and a new vanity. They gave us a bid of 8K for demoing a 5'X9' bathroom. He estimated 8 hours on that bid at $85.00 an hour to remove the cast iron tub and surround. That didn't include the $175.00 dump fee he was charging to dispose of, just the tub. I'm good with tools I do maintenance work and am well-versed with plumbing, electrical, and HVAC. I was totally surprised and dumbfounded by the bid. I never removed a cast iron tub, found this video and it took me a little over an hour to remove the tub. Double-check every proposal you get from all contractors.
