    In the UK foods containing wheat starch that are labelled gluten free are suitable for all people with coeliac disease. Wheat allergy is not the same as coeliac disease (which is not an allergy but rather an auto immune disease). I'm coeliac and always use flours with wheat starch in.

    • @SavorySaver
      @SavorySaver  Před rokem +3

      Thank you so much for taking a moment to comment on that Bev! I appreciate it. That is my understanding as well from what I have researched but I do see that some people with Celiac do not want to use wheat starch. I've used Caputo Gluten Free Flour before and really like it as well but it's hard to find in the states and now that King Arthur has released there's I'll most likely be getting it more often now. I always like to keep my gluten free flour options open lol.

      @@SavorySaver We have that issue here too, coeliacs see "wheat" and disregard that the product is marked gluten free. Saying that, being glutened is not a very pleasant thing to happen so I totally get the hesitancy. We're fortunate that we can get Caputo here, and although expensive, it's worth every penny.

      I also should have said that wheat is a separate allergy so understandably if you're coeliac with a wheat allergy then definitely avoid wheat starch

      @@BevR-UK Yes, you and I are definitely on the same wavelength with the wheat starch information😃 My wife has a huge intolerance to gluten but is not Celiac so while I/we are always super careful in regards to gluten she doesn't have the severe reactions that Celiacs have. I always try to make any notes about ingredients an other items in my videos when I use questionable ingredients......like Cheerios here in the states that she has no issues with but lots of people do.
      The Loopy Whisk is one of my new favorite sites. I made her recipe for pretzels a few weeks back that I posted. Here stuff is AMAZING and such great information in the way she explains it. I'm looking forward to making more of her recipes and using her info on items like psyllium husk and xanthan gum to develop more of my own recipes.

      It isn’t the same wheat in US as in UK. But we try, as some are okay, some aren’t. Also depends on whether you’re severe, or just normal. Severe can’t even deal with oats or rice. In my honest opinion, it shouldn’t even be in there at all.

    Thank you so much for this instructional video! I just made this recipe with the gluten free King Arthur bread flour baking it in a Dutch oven. It was crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside and very tasty. I need to work on the shape of it (but that may be due to using dairy free butter). Next time I'll use regular butter and see if that works better. I found this special flour on Amazon!

    Figuring the cost to make vs buying a loaf from the store, I would just about break even. For me, it is often an issue that I can’t get gluten free bread (especially a brand I like) anywhere near where I live. I have to travel between 1-3 hours one way to find a store that carries it, and has it in stock. Therefore, having a few bags of this in my pantry would save me time, gas, and frustration. In winter when I am less able to make the drive, having this available would be great. So, I am willing to give it a try. Thanks for reviewing and demonstrating this product!

    My issue is gluten sensitivity, not celiac. So I will probably be fine with this version of King Arthur gf flour. However, I’ve pretty much come to the conclusion that I no longer want to make my own bread. It can be SO fiddly to deal with, and I’d rather go to Costco and buy 2 loaves of Udi’s bread, which works out to about $4.50 per loaf. It’s the best deal I’ve found. My only complaint about the bread is the high calorie count per slice, which is 130…😱 So I generally only make half sandwiches and they are filling.
    Jamie, I do appreciate your tremendous efforts to bring a good quality product that we may not have been aware of. But I don’t see myself making this one. I’m sure Tara will love it though! She’s a lucky lady to have a husband so willing to cook such delicious food! ❤️

      I always appreciate your honest comments and conversation on the videos and recipes Brenda. It's always good to hear from you. I totally understand the baking vs buying bread. 4.50 per loaf is a great deal for gf bread. Has Udis bread improved? Tara used to buy Udis when she first went gluten free but it seemed like every time she got a loaf she'd find great big holes in the center of the bread. In regards to calories....I completely agree...gluten free does not equal low calorie at all!

      Hi Robby, It's about 12.95 for a bag of the KA GF flour blend and you'll get at least 2 loaves of bread out of each bag with this recipe. Ther e would be about 1.5 cups of flour left in the bag after 2 loaves of bread. The other ingredients should run under 1.00 per loaf. Let's round up and say you spend 15.00. That would be around 7.50 per loaf. GF store bought bread can run somewhere in that cost range as well. So it's kind of a wash. You would need to decied on factors such as time, enjoyment of baking, taste, etc. Thank you for watching.

In the visits she kept saying you don't have an "allergy" to gluten wheat whatever. I'm waiting on my biopsy results to find out if I have celiac's. allergy vs autoimmune. Although she by far was the best Dr as far as explaining, listening, and spending time etc I guess she could have made that more clear. Going to try this recipe with Caputo flour... you think it will work? I'll let ya know how it turns out if i don't hear back before I make it lol Thanks for your videos. It took about 2.5 hours in the oven on proof setting to rise which then it rose to much and became a volcano over the sides lol and continued as it baked thankfully onto the cookie sheet I had put it on. I reached 210 in about 45 min. I gave it the full hour to rest. It's kind of a flat loaf only 4 or 5 inch thick but moist soft and very tasty. There is only a third of the loaf left. I paid 12.95 for the bag of flour which has 7.5 cups of gluten free flour in the bag. The remainder of the ingredients are pretty basic and probably what most people keep on hand. Those ingredients probably cost $1-2. The recipe uses 3 Cups of Gluten Free Flour so you'll get a couple loaves per bag and have 1.5 cups of flour left in the bag.
