I absolutely love the Beta Beasts design. One of the best aspects of this comic run is that they really take advantage of the medium in their story telling
The most that can be said why this Godzilla has an inconsistent size is the same method used in animation: dramatic effect. They knew at most that Godzilla is an enormous creature, so use that to an advantage and make him look as dramatic as possible. Yes, it does come at the expense of consistency, but if it looks cool then it gets a pass.
In other words: they did this on purpose.
Godzilla vs Red Ronin is definitely one of the best giant monster battles in this comic series. I love my kaju battles but I admit things get really interesting in this series when Goji meets some of Marvel's super heroes. Keep up the great work man
Yeah! A Big Grey Lizard vs a Samurai Red Robot 🦖🤖
I wonder if Super 7 Ultimates will ever make an Red Ronin action figure with the collaboration of Hasbro's Marvel Legends.
@@kaiju-odanny9778 That would be pretty cool. I'd love to see a figure of Marvel comics Godzilla as well
@@ShinGoji1987Official Me too, as well! Especially the Hanna Barbera's Godzilla too.
With all due respect I feel like you HEAVILY glossed over why Rob killed Yetrigar. It wasn't a "Ah nuts to this, this is getting too much for me" kind of thing. He came to the realization that whatever had made Yetrigar big had also changed him to make him cruel and full of rage. If I recall correctly the Japanese ones that he referenced were supposed to be gentle or something. At any rate, once he realized this he kind of viewed it as a mercy kill. But as you said, he still felt a ton of guilt over it.
I really like the Godzilla marvel comics! I think they're really fun.
Speaking on Marvel Godzilla´s height though I always Imagined hes a little bit shorter then HB Godzilla so a little less than 400 feet/ 122 meters
600 or 500 feet tall
That gambling guy Winslow's story did indeed stick out: He had clearly gone off the deep end. Seriously, the casino staffer's telling you to stop with the gambling after trying to bet it all? Is that even a thing that happens or is that Casino policy rather than make sure to suck every penny? He deserved to lose it all at that point one way or another, especially when his noble cause turns out to have been for nothing~
these comics are how i got to know Dum Dum Dugan. he was always yelling and the Helicarrier was careening
To be fair as far as Red Ronin, the idea of a kid character being the only one to be able to control a giant robot because of some technological imprinting had been around for a while as an excuse to have a kid as the main protagonist. The original Giant Robo 1960s series, as well as the 1990's series, did this, as well.
Couple of little trivia fun-facts: 1) If you pay close attention to John Carpenter's Halloween during the scene when Tommy is showing Laurie his comics, you briefly see the cover of Marvel's Godzilla issue 12 on the floor in front of the sofa (there's also an issue of Howard The Duck). 2) Apparently at some point in maybe the late '00s Red Ronin was reimagined as a super-powered teenage girl who goes by "Namie" and is unaware she's actually a robot. I ran across that doing a character search on the Comicvine site a few years ago, that's all the info it mentions other than the character "dies" in Dark Reign: Zodiac #3 published in 2009, and I never delved into it any further, so no idea if it was ever explained in the comics.
Thanks for the trivia. I just looked up that scene in Halloween with the comics and saw the Godzilla issue there. That just blew my mind. I never knew Godzilla was in Halloween. I guess it makes somewhat sense since John Carpenter is a Godzilla fan. Thanks for the info!
Hey, appreciate the credit on the corrections, man! If you ever want to read Jimmy Woo being interesting and doing cool things, check out Jeff Parker's Agents of Atlas (2006-2010) where he forms a team with Marvel's forgotten 1950's heroes.
I just realized Jimmy Woo is in the MCU in the Ant-Man series and WandaVision. Name only, but still cool!
For me, this is when the series took off and went into gloriously insane and exciting directions!
As for the ads, back then comics had to sell ad space in order to get books published, just like television shows had to have commercial sponsors. The amount of ads in Godzilla was no more or less than any Marvel comic. Speaking of page count, writers and artists were able to pack more entertainment at a higher quality with 18 pages than 99% of the garbage published today with 24+ pages with no ads.
This is the first comic book series I collected. I was not happy when it stopped at issue 24. It's funny to think that my intro to most Marvel Characters was from this series.
Keep up the great work👍👍👍
3:40 Eyyy Goron City!
Keep up the great work👍
Love your vids man! Great job!
Loved that Mega Man 8 music 👀
Dum dum doogan had some character development
much like the Hanna Barbara show it sucks they weren't allowed to use any other toho monsters. hell even the 1998 cartoon just used original monsters. was King of the Monsters the first american made godzilla media to ever use monsters from the Toho films? i feel like godzilla is the Batman of giant monsters his supporting caste and villains are almost equally as important to the mythos as the main characters themselves. its like if they made batman movies and comics but weren't allowed to use robin, batgirl, joker, catwoman etc
If you have a problem with that, blame Toho. It's no one else's fault Toho can get greedy with their price tags for each individual monster, you can't even talk them into giving you a discount deal or an all-in-one package deal. You wanna use more Toho monsters? You gotta cough up the dough and spare no expense.
Because of that, creating original monsters ends up being an economic alternative since all they need is the titular star.
Also, you make feel as if original monsters are a bad thing when they're not. But, again, if that's an issue -- blame Toho.
IDW's Godzilla comics, starting with Godzilla: Kingdom of Monsters, have been using the other Toho monsters since the beginning, and they started in 2011.
Great video. Can't wait for part III.
IMO, it should've been three against three. The Beta-Beast shouldn't have been killed, but should've at least been revived and should've been teamed up with Godzilla and Red Ronin against the Mega-Monsters.
Unfortunately, we're not playing "should've"es here.
Now that i think about, i kinda agree
Since he was assimilated into the Marvel universe I'm surprised they didn't have him take on either It, the Living Colossus or Fin Fang Foom.
5:16 I could definitely see myself as a kid being annoyed by so many ads when all i wanted was more Godzilla ☹️ You’d think a throw-away backup story, even a reprinted one from one of Marvel’s _many_ anthology titles like “Where Monsters Dwell” or something would have been a better idea for taking up space… unless they REALLY needed the ad revenue to cover Toho’s licensing fees 😅 That said, as an adult, i really miss those 70s/80s comic ads, just looking at the collage you assembled is like nostalgia overload 😳 You just don’t see things like hunchbacks shilling Slim Jims or Thor eating Hostess Fruit Pies anymore 😆
Back then, the ads were just as much part of the comic book reading experience as the story (especially the Hostess ads and the yearly Saturday morning preview ads) . There weren't any more or less ads in Godzilla than any other Marvel comic at the time.
@@OllieByGolly I still have fond memories of reading the advert adventures of Twinkie the Kid, Captain Cupcake, and Fruitpie the Magician 😁
@@Gappasaurus I watched many premiere episodes of REALLY bad Saturday morning shows based strictly on the comic book ads! :D

Ok
Hey Paper Finz when are you going to do a comparison between the American and Japanese version of Godzilla 2000?
I thought you were jokingly calling the character "Dum-Dum Doogan" at first, I didn't realize that was ACTUALLY his name until I saw panels towards the end that confirmed it. Wow. Earth's mightiest heroes, world's worst hero names.
I hope hasbro issued marvel legend red ronin, the shogun warriors, and leopardon
do a review on short youtube kaiju films like Porter Studios Monstrum God Of The Earth or Daikaiju1997 Films Fan Film: DOGORA II ect. This is just an idea. Hope you do though. Thanks
red Ronin remind me of shogun megazord
The ads are to pay for Godzilla's license.I think Red ronin is a bootleg design of Reideen.
Godzilla was on the Moon in issue #12.
Kind of like Godzilla vs Monster Zero
The Betans and Megans are so dumb to be included in the story. Godzilla defeats all their creatures and I support the Batons and seem to lose... So no one won... it's kind of stupid. 👽👾
