18:58 Fun Fact: Cryptoclidus was a real animal, a marine reptile belonging to the plesiosaur family! Note they are not dinosaurs, and are more closely related to modern sea turtles! Mosasaurus also is not a water dinosaur, it’s actually a squamate, in the same group with lizards and snakes!

So,to understand WHAT I am hearing Kai-which I heard means "Giant", And "Ju",is "Monster",Then IF WE must be strictly ACCURATE,Then a GIANT MONSTER,Which is the Orig Kaiju, Considering HIS OVERALL SIZE, Who IS Giant,Is "The Great Buddha",Considering HIS size...And the MOVIE debuted in 1934,THEN HE is the 1ST(And Original) Kaiju...Agreed,considering his Giant Size, and that he IS from 1934,About my Observation and Belief?

As a devout Catholic, it kind of blows my mind that anyone would turn the Buddha into a kaiju. Isn't that, well, blasphemous? Or at least really, really disrespectful? (There was a comic book in which Abe Lincoln got off his throne and walked around Washington saying howdy to the young'uns ...)

The probable reason that Jiraya doesn't have a lot of title cards is that Japanese silent films were accompanied by a "benshi" (narrator) who described the action and storyline. Skilled benshi could become very popular and the tradition of benshi actually set back the introduction of sound to Japanese films for several years.

So two little things i noticed in the show. So Mexico just has this extremely potent chemical weapon and no one bats an eye, in this show México has one of the most powerful anti mutation weapons and no one attempts to follow suit. And when they mentioned that Nuking Baghdad would cause WWIII, does this mean Iraq has nukes in the show?

The first movie points out all the significant ninja lords and gods .... or forms that ninjas Take. Naruto and The movie the Magic serpent. Most ninja narratives using animation forms are based off these gods. Manda from Atragon Is based off of serpant god. The head of the gods leading serpant style Ninjitsu. Kind off like the naga of Hindu lore.

To be honest yes god zilla is the first as though those movies existed before. The genre is defind by godzilla. Just like the final girl was defined by 80s slasher movies even though there were slashers and final girls in movies before.

I view kaiju as creatures that put humanity in their place. Creatures that are unique and strong in some capacities. They require out of the box thinking and armchair theories to be beaten or must be reasoned with to find a solution. Which is why i find the 2005 Kong a "Monster" and the Monsterverse Kong a "Kaiju". 2005's Kong doesn't challenge humanity in any meaningful way besides the initial danger of a large ape and is also killed by simple planes.

Part of the reason that Son of Kong did well in Asian territories is because Charlie was one of the first Asian characters in Hollywood to be portrayed in a decent light. He stands up to the bully, secures provisions, fights the styracosaurus, and even claims a share of the treasure at the end. It's a big step up from his role in the first film.

  • @natethefighter

Regarding the difficulty following the plot in the silent film, I'd bet that's because there's no *benshi* audio. In Japanese silent film, in addition to having musical accompaniment, there would also be a narrator called a "benshi" who would tell the story, speak for characters, etc. And because of that, there's a much reduced reliance on title cards to help explain the story.

Thank you for the dive and Japanese lessons. Why do you talk like a kindergarten teacher/game show host? Perhaps... (dramatic pause) you could walk in to the hills for a day and yell yer guts out and find your voice. It's there and it's a fine voice, kid. I used to teach didgeridoo before everybody went mental and many students would start crying due to deep-breathing affects - they literally had stopped deep breathing in childhood. Come to L.A., buy me a triple espresso and we could find your real voice in 3 hours or less. You'd be amazed however courage is required.

"...very few title cards" not "very little". Imma Virgo, you have to forgive me because many cleaners (Virgos) work anonymously and yes, many Cleaners do the shite work that you would never, ever approach. My mind is basically 3 years old, so narration is...appropriate? Kidding, I'm an elder. An elder is an older person, generally typified by cliches in the culture. I was born as the shoot (1953) was wrapping up. Me'n'G'.

My friend recommended me this video and it’s really well made and cool! As a kid I considered Kaiju to be monsters bigger than monsters, because in my heart I believed godzilla/Kong to be the biggest ones ive seen. I kinda still hold that up to this day, but now if and only there are a scarce few of the same species.
