It's awesome that you pulled this off. I will say though that when I watch a magic show I always feel like it is cheating if someone is helping off stage. Same thing if the host of the show is secretly helping the magician.
Not only am I not disappointed, but I'm even more impressed after learning the secret. A simple idea can turn out to be amazing and magical is what magic is all about!
Thank you for this reveal. So someone wrote the answers, placed the paper on top of the sole in the prop brought in to hold the briefcase. You then stepped on the sole and therefore placed it in your shoe as you yelled for the audience to applaud Teller coming up - hiding the sound of the sole’s magnets clicking onto the shoe. Wow very tricky. The key is the helper who was off stage to load the answers onto the sole. No one expected an offstage helper - least of all Penn and Teller in this trick. Great job.
@@JacaboBlanco i get the sentiment - but P&T know the rules to the show so they know it’s fair game - and plus they know he couldn’t have written it himself having been watching him the whole time. But maybe I’m missing something
Holy _balls,_ dude! I *adore* how simple this is! The best trick methods are ones that are dead-ass simple, but that no one else would have had the creativity to try. Bravo!!
Your first attempt on the show was an off the shelf trick, but your winning one was something you put your own SOUL into. Pun intended:) What a generous video you have given us here! I honestly don't think anyone could figure this out. Yes it's simple when you know. Disappointing? How many methods and sold tricks out there are disappointing but only cuz often the devilish secret is so simple. Great job mate! Thank you so much for sharing.
Such a great trick! Letting the children and adults know that just about anyone can fool some of the best in magic by simply thinking outside the box. Thank you for revealing this. You never had to but to be able to see the simplicity behind it makes me smile and chuckle.
Awesome video, very interesting. I don't have any experience with props/gimmicks so this sort of creative process is very eye opening. Keep up the good work!
Some people complain when tricks are revealed but I always find it interesting and sometimes more amazing how simple and how creative the real answer is. Good job Mr Bellars.
I remember watching your trick years ago, completely befuddled. Glad I've managed to stumble upon it again now, that there is a proper explanation for it. Thanks for making it public, it won't keep me awake at night anymore. :D Good job on the trick and really, thanks for letting us know about how it was done!
Richard, you are generous to share this Exclusive and Brilliant process!! In no way would I have figured it out. And I LOVE how creatively simple you made an answer to this question of getting it into the shoe. You are a Master of your Craft! Much Respect.
It's not disappointing at all. Magic tricks take creativity, and thinking up how to do it is the real amazing part. Something so simple, and to fool them all you have to do is use a different method than they try to guess. Well done!
I love the fact that everyone is focused on the suitcase to contain the prediction, and that allows for the table to be brought on stage without anyone noticing it wasn't there in the first place. That's great misdirection!
Thanks for sharing your trick. I love magic, but it's pretty hard to beat the look on the faces of Penn and Tellar when they are actually fooled. They are like kids again just as we all are when someone manages to pull that wool so effectively. Cheers mate.

Thanks so much for this, the insight into the thought process, and the info about how it works behind the scenes was very entertaining. Regarding the magnets, having the pole orientation of the front magnet on the shoe be the opposite of the magnets on the back of the part you are picking up would prevent it from attaching early. Probably not a trick you are going to be doing again after this video though, heh. Again, great job!

Seven years after you posted FU and 5 years after the Reveal and watching P&T say they were fooled, and it was still exciting to watch you react to fooling them. Thank you for posting both these videos. I wish you well.
Truly a lesson in crafting the perfect magic trick, using all the tools at the disposal of the illusionist. The magnetic sole is a unique and brilliant innovation that produces a seemingly normal shoe that Jonathan can hold in his hand. Plus, changing the focus from the suitcase to the shoe was an excellent use of misdirection, causing Penn & Teller to overlook the simple possibility that the written answer was transported on stage with the table. On both counts you truly fooled them on the night, as part of an entertaining performance full of humour and surprises. Thanks for posting the solution after all these years, and for your graciousness in answering people's questions along the way. I'm interested to know if Penn & Teller have now learned the solution - I'm guessing they'd be doubly impressed.
I'm surprised that this fooled them -- the table coming from back stage should have been a big red flag -- but maybe they didn't realize/remember that the table wasn't initially on stage.
Im still confused about how the paper got from the assistant writing it down, to a location where you can step on it? EDIT: OH I see, they had an assistant bring a table on stage with it hidden somewhere at the bottom. They totally edited it out so that was not shown during the act, made it much harder to guess thats for sure.
Saw both performances on P & T and was in tears when Richard 'won' on second attempt. Trick is fantastic, and when you find out how it is done it is very much hmmmmmm now why didn't I think of that! Brilliant
Richard, your preparation is great! Thanks for giving us this perspective. When you came up with the concept, did you come up with the shoe mechanics first? Or did you have the illusion in mind first?
during the whole part where Penn and Teller play darts, pick words, and play rock paper scissors someone wrote the results down on what looks like the ticket to the show, and then was placed in the table that was brought on.
Thanks for making this video! It's quite funny that so many people (including Penn and Teller) could be fooled by this, so simple but I couldn't have guessed it in years either - nice one mate
just watched your winning video and seeing this video. very wise line you said here that all the years practice and doing magic for years and all you had to do is one move to step on the block - made a big difference. I liked your thinking and approach.
Its so real how looks changes over the years but the skills of magic is still there and growing in you. Nice one mate.. Would love your DVD ... Nice hair mate.. :)
Don't worry about not having a script or lines on the fool us performance. The ad libs were fine and jonathan ross really made up for that. Hilarious and entertaining. Keep it up
It proves that an idea, no matter how simple it seems once explained, is absolutely brilliant at it's time of conception. Simple technology and great showmanship fooled two of the best magicians going and that's the part I enjoyed. You got em.
Very nice of you to reveal this amazing routine, you surely fooled me RB ;-) PS:so there was someone under the table writing the outcome on the piece of paper who placed it in the cut out piece of shoe??
+Richard Bellars ok thank you for your response Richard ,i just watched your performance now for the third time .So there was someone else who wrote the prediction backstage who then placed the piece of paper in the cut out of the shoe?
Yep, you got it Frederic, that is how understand what Richard said. Richard also said the cut out piece of shoe was hidden in the leg of the table and when the table was brought out he stepped on the cut out piece piece of shoe. But how he got the cut out piece of shoe out of the leg of the table in order to then step on it, I am unsure of.
susp1 there was a hole at the bottom of the table at floor level. So he just slipped his foot in and stepped on it. At least that is how I understood it.

Richard Bellars Richard Bellars that ending trick that you did was the best one by far! The magic is really in your hands!! I'll have to try that next time I see a heckler
Nice video. Thanks for sharing. I didn't remember the table being brought on after the contests were complete. I don't think it spoils the entertainment. I'm glad things have changed from when I was a kid, and the secrets were never revealed, because back then, watching magic shows only frustrated me.
One question how long did they Penn and Teller deliberate for? Seems like 30 seconds but I'm sure it's longer? And how long were you actually on stage for?
Oh wow! They make it seem like 30 seconds! Congrats and I can't wait for more of your videos! And Wow Im surprised you actually responded I'm used to not getting replies so thank you!
As a follow-up to that question, , do they get access to any resources while they deliberate? if they're mostly sure they know where an effect is from but can't remember the name or creator for them to communicate it, can they research or ask someone or is it all in their heads? Also, thanks for this vid. Blows my mind to see how some gimmicks are made.

Way too late for the giveaway, but had to leave a comment about this video. Absolutely fantastic to see you following up on this! The simple methods can be the hardest to figure out. Wonderfully done, great prop and thanks for sharing the explanation!
I think your 1st attempt and being chastise by Penn was your motivation for not getting even as much as it was respect for you not only as a magician but a person. I think sometimes in life we need things like this to awaken our creative juices. We never know where inspiration might come from so we should always be ready to be inspired. Great vid and thanks for sharing!
Is it fair if my mental powers tell me that I have already won the DVD in the most possible future? (I will use only one account to comment, I don't really need the three of them, but thanks for making it possible!) Wonderful video by the way, GREAT attitude on making it, really GREAT.
I love that the method is something I could have knocked up on the kitchen table if I was clever enough to think of it, rather than something made from Russian rocket parts and silicon chips, purchased from a magic trick inventor for thousands of pounds.
I usually avoid looking in the comments in magic trick videos, or clicking on any of the unofficial "TRICK REVEALED!" videos that youtube likes to suggest. But hey, if the magician himself wants to reveal it, awesome. I never would have guessed that. Simple and brilliant.
Mine was the comment suggesting a small person with nice handwriting secreted in the plinth on the original video. I should very much like to be selected at random to win one of the DVDs. Let's let fate decide.
Richard Bellars haha, i take it they know how it is done now? I was thinking this is a trick that you could only perform with a stage, but im sure there is a way of adapting it to more of a street scene?
TBH i think alot of people could have guessed all night, everyone is so acustomed to thinking it goes down in the shoe, i dont think many could have guessed it, honestly its a stoke of brilliance where you think out of the box... in the way this is executed it kind of reminds me of the chris angel levitation(which i asume you are familiar with), i dont think many would have guessed that either.. i have loved and studied magic for 30 years now, but i would never have guessed magnetic sole :p
Richard Bellars: pls I still dont know how you wrote the prediction on the paper... or when. Can you explain it for me please? You wrote it after the Teller won right? How did you do that?
I still don't understand it. You say it's been written off stage and brought in, but how? There's no one bringing anything to the stage between the time they play rock, paper, scissors and You take the paper out of the shoe, otherwise Penn & Teller could easily notice it
Right after the rock, paper, scissors bit, there is a podium which has been brought out by stage hands. The people viewing at home did not see them bring it out (That part confused me as well since it was done off camera). The podium consists of the bottom of the guy's shoe and the paper with the answers already placed inside. It's the same one that Teller sticks that briefcase on. All Richard Bellars had to do was place his foot inside the bottom of the podium in order to snap his shoe back together. It took me a few viewings to understand how this was done, since they do a lot of things off camera that viewers at home do not see.
Magic and illusion are something that I love to understand more of how these are done, and while it does "spoil" the fun to some extent, I love the educational part of it. Thank you for sharing.

What's, good peeps!
One thing I know about Penn and Teller is if you are going to fool them, you need to create your own tricks because they know all of the old ones.
And that's why they hound the people who fool them backstage for how they did it, and invite them to perform with them. 🤣
It's interesting to acknowledge these genius tricks after they've been performed on stage and they left you breathless. Thank you for this video!

That is awesome magic about the illusion not how simple the method you nailed it!! Again awesome brilliant!!!
Owen Lee thanks dude!!
Thank you for this explanation. This one fooled me and nothing I came up with could explain it. Brilliant creation.
Absolutely brilliant! You're a true genius Richard!! Hope you are well!!
Brilliant!
Bloody brilliant!
You nailed it, I had assumed some sort of shoot into ya foot but still thought how though! Never thought there was a gapping whole in ya foot! Lol!
That's just great, to really see behind the curtains. TY RB
He's such a good magician, he's made his hair disappear
How did you put the other info on the paper?
S1 of stage
Very creative and well executed. Thank you so much for sharing! Congratulations on fooling them and winning the show.
I usually avoid looking in the comments in magic trick videos, or clicking on any of the unofficial "TRICK REVEALED!" videos that youtube likes to suggest. But hey, if the magician himself wants to reveal it, awesome. I never would have guessed that. Simple and brilliant.
Great video, great method, thought the method was a lot more complicated
Ben Brady My dad would be very happy with your avatar! #Eagles
Mine was the comment suggesting a small person with nice handwriting secreted in the plinth on the original video. I should very much like to be selected at random to win one of the DVDs. Let's let fate decide.
+Sir Magic John AMAZING!!!
So simple and beautiful. Magnificent work!
I'm honestly impressed to see that such a great trick only needs a "little" secret to have that epic effect on us. Well done!!
Nice, very clever. I wonder if given say 3 chances, would Penn & Teller have figured it out?
Alex hobbs Teller genuinely said he could have guessed all night. He had another guess backstage... lol
Richard Bellars haha, i take it they know how it is done now?
I was thinking this is a trick that you could only perform with a stage, but im sure there is a way of adapting it to more of a street scene?
Alex hobbs I wrote it for stage but street could be easy too. Someone writing and placing the sole just out of sight behind a bin etc. Could work..
Was seamlessly put together! Really enjoyed it and thanks for the reveal!
You know when he reveals his trick that he's come up with something even more brilliant.
Really cool geting the chance to see how it was done. Thanks for the experience.
You are so awesome for this reveal. Clever and cool you got those guys good! Thanks!
Richard Bellars: pls I still dont know how you wrote the prediction on the paper... or when. Can you explain it for me please? You wrote it after the Teller won right? How did you do that?
+Dominik Žilka it was written off stage and came on with the table. It's in the video old bean :)
thank you very much :)
I missed that part as well. Thanks for explaining it :)
The dislikes are from Penn and Teller
+MeltSnowMan 😂😂
Brilliantly performed and brilliantly simple! Well done!
Magic and illusion are something that I love to understand more of how these are done, and while it does "spoil" the fun to some extent, I love the educational part of it. Thank you for sharing.
