Genesis is here with the ultimate grandpa EV -- the G80! Alex took it for a test drive to see if this no-nonsense EV is the ideal future of electric cars or if straight converting ICE vehicles to electric doesn't make sense.

The amount of times grammerly has saved my ass 😅
KURACCCCCC
The example texts in the ad are great

Why are you guys reviewing crappy kitchen appliances now?
Can we just appreciate the quality of those golden hour rolling shots? Absolutely incredible, looks better than most real car ads.
Seriously, sometimes I feel like I'm watching Top Gear
True! They add to the quality of the video and enjoyment a lot!
It was honestly a bit dark for my preference...
big thumbs down for the lame "Can we just..." post. They're so tired.
@@mavfan1 AND WHO DO WE HAVE HERE? MR GROUCH - THE SPOILER OF FUN AND CHIDREN'S SMILES
When Alex was saying, "Super easy" I was waiting for him to say, "Barely an inconvenience!"
He made up for it by saying "Fantastic" a good few times 😁
Same 🤣
Right? It's like it's etched into your mind
They could get Ryan George since he's in the area.
wow wow wow.... wow
Love how it doesn't matter how check or expensive a car is, its all getting the crab rave treatement
Please keep doing these. I love them.
Yes. I really appreciate Alex's takes. They feel super genuine, practical, and down to earth. He covers basically everything I would look for including tradeoffs.
@@jajssblue For the most part I have no interest in car reviews yet somehow Alex makes them worth watching. If he keeps making them I'll keep watching.
As a Genesis G90 owner, I’m a bit offended by the term “grandpa car” 😂. And yes, I love the turn signals from Genesis.
Embrace the "grandpa"!
I’m excited to see car manufacturers pay attention to where turn signals are on the outside so more than just the person directly in front ,or behind you, can see them. Kudos Hyundai!
Now if they could just get ppl to actually use them lol
@@chadhowell1328 , it's so important for people turning right/left on side streets on to the main street, too. Often you can't see what they're trying to do until you're right on them, which isn't great. As a cyclist, that's a big issue for me.
@@emma70707a lot of manufacturers actually put the turn signal on the side too, but it usually just stuck on the side mirrors and not as well as Genesis implement as part of their design
Something I wish you guys (and everyone else, frankly) would talk about when they talk about self-driving/adaptive-cruise is how well it does with detecting things that aren't cars. Context being I ride a motorcycle and I hate when Teslas are behind me because they are notorious for not always detecting motorcycles. The systems are usually great at detecting cars and trucks but anything smaller and they just get confused.
fortnine recently did a video on just how bad teslas are at that
Yeah, current autopilot on teslas isn't great for that. Luckily they're rolling out FSD beta on highways for everyone with the next update, which is pretty excellent at detecting things other than cars
@@madflyer1093 interesting. my tesla picked them up a mile away. and then proceeded to tailgate them with the same precision as every other car on the road. Do you guys also drive tesla's? or just motorcycles? Its going to be so nice when the roads aren't all fumy!
@@eric23walsh There have been multiple accidents where teslas have run over motorcyclists while in self driving mode. Most roads aren't fumy and even for the ones that are, it's definitely not because of motorcycles.
@@eric23walsh I just ride motorcycles but I live in SF so I see a LOT of Teslas.
I have driven a 2014 Sonata and a 2017 Sonata previously and I now have a 2020 Sonata. I know that Hyundais don’t always have the best reputation (ex. Hyundai/Kia carjacking challenge) but I have never been disappointed by the thoughtfulness and ease of use of their interiors. Things just make sense. The buttons work and are convenient, and the infotainment system isn’t absolute trash like a lot of other brands. It’s nice to see that the thoughtfulness of the interior tech extends to other models and brands under the Hyundai umbrella.
We can see the work of Dennis on the Business team already. The Grammarly adspot was fun. The car review was top notch as usual!
i love alex doing ev reviews. so much promising tech coming in 2023 and beyond - i hope you guys get access to a lot more cars!
Love the tactile buttons and controls! Please automakers bring them back!
This. So much. Stop making us look away from the road so much to find basic functions!
Bring back normal buttons, and get rid of piano black.
@@9PlatinumGamer9 then the cars dash looks like a PS3
You stepped up the filming for this review, the follow shots are a nice addition
MORE ALEX CAR REVIEWS!
When Alex says this is a grandpa car and I'm considering a 2021 G80 3.5T Sport Prestige as my next car at 26 years old 😂
I agree though, i’d rather have a sweet looking luxury car than a “typical” golf gti with a popping exhaust that can do 0-100 in 5 sec whereas 100km/h is the max speed here
Have a 2021 g90 and am 25. Can say that it is an unbelievable car and genesis as a brand is incredible.
@@coreyfranco8217 🔥🔥🔥 I would consider the G90 as well, but I really want HDA II, if I'm going to buy a Genesis!
@@coreyfranco8217 A G90 at 25, that's some dough you're making :'D
Weird flex.
Man, using the labs to do additional testing on cars is some next level review energy. I'm all for it. Nice work guys!
Sat in the G90 this weekend… Mercedes has a long way to go to match them. Not a single creak or crack or rattle, and it actually looks like it costs what it does. I don’t think there’s a bad looking genesis
someone appreciate the B roll, its gorgeous, would love to see more of it, especially in the intro
I had a 2015 G80 and it was absolutely fantastic. I say that as a former BMW 7 series and Mercedes E class owner. Hands down one of the best cars I have ever owned. Too bad the 8 speed trans goes belly up after 65-80k. Thank god for 10 year 100k warranties :) Past that - every single thing on the car was awesome. AWD, all possible features and I loved the smart cruise while commuting in and out of chitown. Had a great stereo, plenty of power when you wanted it, and handled just a shade less confidently than a 5 series. The G90 is even larger and more luxurious and will likely be my next ride.
wait, whats gonna happen to the trans? i own 2016 hyundai gen sedan. under 90k KM now
@@clawtoris Those might be miles, and 100k miles is about 160k km. Anyways, problems can vary from model to model (and between years), so I suggest you look into car forums for issues with your specific model if you're concerned. Just because the G80 2015's transmition is wonky doesn't mean that your car's is (or that it doesn't have issues not seen in the G80).
@@clawtoris yes that's in miles sorry. Hyundai uses the same 8 speed trans in almost all their Rwd or awd vehicles. It will start to surge or slip when going from 2 to 3 and 4 to 5. It's all over the Genesis forums and the Hyundai forums.
It’s nice and refreshing to see an EV with actual buttons these days.
GIVE HIM HIS OWN CAR CHANNEL!
Lmao having seat adjustments for the front passenger seat that’s accessible from the back seat is every parents’ nightmare.
My G70 3.3T has the same feature, my kids have never messed with it. However, it was complete mayhem when my 40+ year old buddies discovered the buttons.
@@Vermie22that’s more of who I would be worried about myself lol
Would like to see Hyundai Ioniq 5 EV, chepest model regarding packet from dilership. It's not premium, but i want to see Alex review it 😁
They already did the Ioniq 5 and EV6.
Thats high praise coming for you to recommend a car
Having Alex cover vehicles has made me realize he's quite an educated car guy as well... Dude keeps adding to his chill meter every video 😂 I'd love to see him do a car channel tbh
Such a good reviewer. Very entertaining on cars and tech
I absolutely adore and love Alex car vids, more Alex on LTT channels!
Linus and team really do a great job hiring employees. I love everyone at LMG. Most channels have at least one person whose energy bothers me in their videos, but not LMG. I wish I could work there.
It is rare for reviews to include decibel levels, thank you!! Really hard to compare vehicles for quietness when judging against simple descriptors like "great", "best ever", "very quiet" etc. So much helpful detail in this review.
Gorgeous car, and great review! Love Alex's car reviews.
It is crazy seeing you drove right by my work, CN RAIL REPERSENT!
Love the car reviews. Alex is a great presenter. More please
Alex rockin the Pica marker in the shirt pocket, good stuff
great review! you really should make a video on the aptera, if it releases at some point.
Love the Alex on Autos reference!
Can we just get a LTT t-shirt with Alex saying 'Fantastic !' ? 😄
Love these Alex, keep it up!
great video loved it !
His head was very dark in all the shots but other than that no complaints keep up these videos !
280m range at $80k? GTFO with that nonsense. This video is awesome. Keep doing them. Better than 99% of the other car people on youtube.
the birth of a new channel,, alex drive reviews
Love love that Genesis is doing their cars with real buttons. We just got a GV60 primarily for that reason. Their cars are awesome.
I have a 2022 G70 3.3t AWD Sport Prestige and I absolutely love it. It's super quick, handles amazingly and the lexicon sound system in it sounds great. Definitely a car for younger people vs the G80.
I had the same car and absolutely love it. The G70 is definitely a younger person's car. I could see myself getting the g80 for my next car.
thinking about trading my Golf R in for one. What made you choose AWD over RWD? I don't live near snow so not sure I wanna spend the extra
@@wolf0491 Even though it's awd, it is still rear biased and handles like a rear wheel drive car when you push it hard. If you mash the gas while making a hard turn, you'll absolutely kick the rear tires out on it. I live in an area where it does snow up to a foot in the winter, so awd has already saved me from getting stuck on more than one occasion.
@@chrisg8339 gotcha yeah I'd prolly go RWD then. Might have go give one a test drive
I've had a 22 GV70 3.5 AWD sport prestige for 18 months and love it. It's one of the matte colors (grey) which people told me was a pain to maintain but it hasn't been bad, though I've avoided scratches and dings so far.
Love these EV reviews from Alex
Appreciate that the unit of measure hrsprs is being used. That way you know if you have powah or mo powah, baby.
i did not realise this was a shortcircut until alex announced the sponsor in the midlle of the video.....lol
Hope you guys get a chance to test the Genesis GV60 as well, it’s another E-GMP car (just like the Kia EV6 or Hyundai Ioniq 5).
Sharing the same platform with ICE really cripples this thing. Something that large should easily clear 300 miles and have tons of storage.
Love car content that is done by Tech people. You have good day Alex :D
Your voice has come a long way. Good for you my dude
Just traded in my Tesla Model 3 for a Genesis G80 3.5T Sport Plus - didn't have the ability to charge my EV anymore after I moved from BC to Ontario. I was really sad to lose my beloved Tesla, but Genesis really killed it.
Thought you were doing a laptop style grill/chassis flex test when you opened the charging port lol
I mean, the lack of a grill is a pretty big tell. But that’s not necessarily a bad thing.
The lack of a grill is the main reason I don’t want to own one. They look horrible.
He says it has a ICE version, how different is the grill in that?
@@gregs1999 What a weird opinion. I never though of the grill of anything other than practicality... :D
Same thing as "NO I WANT THE SOUND OF AN ENGINE" wtf r these people 10 years old?
@@ilaripori6148 You wouldn’t want to drive a car you’ find ugly now would you? You’d want an aesthetically pleasing car that you have to look at and be happy to own. A grill is aesthetically pleasing. With the sound of an engine, it’s also safer. You can’t hear an electric car coming round the corner.
@@gregs1999 "A grill is aesthetically pleasing." just.. no :DDDD
Love that Maritimer accent...never lose it! I'm getting major Nova Scotian with a hint of PEI.
Is there gonna be a video on the IONIQ6? Id love to see your guys’s opinion on it!
I drive a 2009 genesis sedan and love it. I'm no grandpa though haha lots of room for 3 car seats in the back as well as 3 car seat connector spots
Ooooh, I'd be very interested to see what your sound engineer thinks the settings in my Mach-E should be! :-) Maybe to a sound system episode on the EVs you've reviewed so far :-)
I'd drive mine to you, but a trip from Cleveland, OH is . . . . long.
I love how the first thing you said was grandpa Carr and then I laughed and then remembered that my friends grandpa has one
Yes car reviews are back !
good car review, great improvement from the first set.
Man Alex really didnt like the EQS which is a shame
Crab Rave in the car reviews... Alex has brought us to a new level!
I think the EQS looks beautiful, at least from the front. But that rear...
If I had one, I'd always park it backwards, so that I could avoid looking at the rear.
can you review some dualtron or kaabo scooters? i wanna know what you think about them. 🙂
Nice scenery guyz!
I love your car reviews Alex... Good as the pro car reviewers... x
Isn't Jake a petrolhead too..? Would love to see you both do a 2 car head to head... xxx
6:18 Us Americans doing 130mph on back roads after 2 beers and the guy on the other end of the garage says he'll gap you: 🥸
So you can't have rear seat heating if there is someone in the middle seat? Weird oversight...
I missed Alex reviewing a car. Need more of that
There's a second one already on floatplane (these two have been live for a few days :) before coming here to YT)
That sound tuning must be by request. The Bose system in my Kia Sorento PHEV is the same.
Still, when it comes to EV and PHEV, Kia and Hyundai are knocking it out the park. The cars are comfortable and feel great to drive.
I love the unit of measurement for HP 😅👌
you're getting quite good at these car reviews, needs a quirks and features section as a nod to Doug i think :P
I can just imagine Alex cruising everywhere listening to Crab Rave with the bass cranked
"Communicative effectively" is the best subversive Grammarly ad!
Could you review the mazda CX-60?
hearing how tall you are really helps im 6'2 so it isnt easy finding a vehicle which fits without getting into it myself
Yeah...Lexicon is a Harman brand (who also does the Bowers&Wilkins systems for Volvo), so it's probably more down to the Lexicon and Genesis tuning targets more than anything.
0:25 lack of a visible radiator from the grill or tail pipe didnt give it away prior?
I've been dreaming of getting one
regen breaking is less efficeint than coasting to a stop, but it is not time efficient, most people arent going to free-wheel coast to a stop so using one pedal driving is more efficient for most people.
1:50 at least they let you open it lol
I'm not much of a car guy but damn I love watching these
can't wait for you guys to review the BMW i4
Love the car episodes
I really enjoy the car content!
This car knows how to maximize things it can control and minimize things it can't control
heated seat controls on the middle armrest seems like a bad idea...if you have a 3rd person back there, you can't control your heated seats?
This car looks amazing, ship one to the Netherlands please
"Alex reviews cars" has somehow become one of my favorite video format
Can't wait to see an Aptera make it on Short Circuit!
thumbs up for the HRSPS ayeeee
im ok with "mostly sensical instead of bells & whistle toys" design ideology & i want more of that in all sorts of tech
oh i did miss how many two fours you can cram in the frunk tho
can we get a video for the polestar 2?
is 280 miles considered rly good? seems Kina low to me for a car that essentially requires a best scenario 45 min fuel up if you are going any decent distance.
would love to hear something about your favorite EVs under 50k or something among those lines.
I can only think of the Kia Niro EV and Chevy Bolt EV/EUV that are under 50k MSRP
Batteries cost loads to make so you're not going to find many EVs at that price range. Maybe once the new batteries come out then we will see cheaper cars again as they are supposed to hold more charge and cost a bit less to make. I can't wait to get rid of lithium all together such a bad resource to use.🤭
@@Bigdog1787 Well our Peugeot e-208 was what, 30k? there's lots of them, they're not SUVs and they probably don't have all the bells and whistles, but it would be really cool to have a trustworthy resource about that price range. Like, the peugeot we have is nice, but man does the stereo suck, I mean, some music hurts your ears. And oh god the android app. Would've been cool to know that beforehand.
I have a 2018 Genesis g80, it's a total grandpa car. It's the best and smoothest riding car I have ever owned. I love it.
does they have it with a gasoline range extender :3 ?
Similar infotainment dial/scroll wheel setup as the newer Mazdas, but everybody bashes them for no touchscreen 🤔
I think a Dyno that you can use to standardise the road noise test would be great. But I am sure it will not be cheap to implement
Fantastic!
whats with the green headlights?
