The grey textured background actually looks awesome as it reminds me so much of the real printed papers which makes me less miss the physical books and enjoy e-reading even more. That actually turns out to be a strength for me! 😂🎉
That’s a cope
hmmm... cast doubt
@@rashed434 Cope? After using Kindles for a decade I just sold my 2 Kindles Scribe and Paperwhite for Boox Note Air 3C and Kobo Libra Color. Apart from the joy of color book covers, it helps me read technical books and pdfs with charts and graphs. Can Kindle do that? Not a chance! Amazon needs to move their lazy ass quickly!
@@rashed434sounds like it hahah
Same thoughts here🎉
I love your communication style in this video! It feels even more sincere and authentic. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much for this. I was really hoping for a comparison video on exactly these 3 devices,, and I was so happy to see this because I knew you would be honest as you always are.
Honestly, I expected it to be a bigger difference. Also the colour seems less muted than I expected!
Thank you for this review. When it comes to ereaders your reviews are the ones I trust the most.
the pages on the colour look more like pages from a real book
Short and sweet comparison, thank you very much for this! Crispy video, indeed!
Just a note if it is only noticeable when compared, then it is not a major difference.
Thank you for review! I just got mine in colour and unfortunately had to return it :( I love the idea of coloured ereader so much, but this haze/grain really hurts my eyes while reading, so I won't recommend it to anyone with sensitive eyes or bad eyesight 🥹🙏 planning on ordering BW instead and hoping they will improve the technology in the future!!
Unfortunately they've discontinued the Libra 2, can only buy used or Colour version now
Very clear comparison. That's useful.
An excellent comparison between the competitors. Thx
i'm so glad i did not pre-ordered. I like the clarity of libra 2. hopefully the next generation would carry over the B&W clarity
Thanks - this was really helpful! I’ve been tempted by the colour option, but seeing is believing. I prefer having crisp text for reading.
same here
Is the "loss" of sharpness only noticeable if there is something highlighted in color on the page? Or is it also noticeable when comparing black and white? Thank you
Thank you so much for this! It's what I wanted to see.
Thanks for this informative video! Dealbreaker. For me nothing compares to the feeling when you bring Paperwhite out to be blasted with direct morning sunlight. This haze would surely ruin it. Let's wait and see what Amazon comes up with next year.
I’m glad I waited for your review. I’m just gonna stick with my bw clara. Hopefully the colour improves with future releases
Not sure how it works but the Kobo colour switch to a lower resolution when there are colours in the page. May you should try with BW text only for comparaison.
Nice, clean comparison. No sugar coating things, you lose some crispyness when going to colour with Kaleido 3.
Thank you for this! I’ve been de influenced from getting the Libra colour. I’ll stick with my Libra 2. I prefer the crispyness over the colour filter
Good comparison. Nice to see a real life example of the screens performance. thank you
This is SO helpful, thanks for posting this!
I bought the Libra Colour and returned it after a day, because of the gray haze that was too visible in my opinion. I didn’t have any other e-reader to compare it to, it was just immediately visible to me. Bought the Clara BW, after watching one of your videos and you are right, that one has a beautiful crisp screen. It is a joy reading on the Clara BW, it so pocketable
How did you return your library colour? Did you email customer support? I can’t find the link to it.
@@larissadanek6646 Brought it back to the store where I bought it. (I live in the Netherlands).
Still happy with my Clara BW. Wish they would come up with a solution to sync reading progress for sideloaded books, because I also read in my iPad mini and my iPhone.
Thanks for the video. Theres so very few side by side comparisom videos in good quality anywhere for the new kobos in general. Definitely gonna wait for color e ink to get better though and Im still very happy with my libra 2 purchase from a while back. I just love how much noticeably crisper it is than not only the libra color but also the kindle paperwhite.
Thanks for the comparison. I have the Libra 2 and PW and use them with the backlight off as much as possible. Looks like the Colour will be a skip for now, short of a catastrophic loss of the Libra.
İs screen on kobo more crysp than on kindle display? İs kobo better in usage than kindle? Wich one do you love more (i’ll mention that i won’t buy books from amazon on kindle, cause I live in other country, and read books in other language)
looks fine to me
apparently when in full color mode its 150ppi and when black and white its 300ppi just like the others 300 ppi
There is no "color mode". My understanding is that B&W will always be 300 ppi and any colors being shown will be at 150ppi. Like you said, it looks fine and isn't really an issue unless you look very closely.
Thanks for showing the differences between models. I'm torn, the 'crispiness' of the text on other e-readers is nice, but in my experience it can actually feel a bit strange to my eyes since it's so close to paper and I'm used to there being some sort of texture on the page. The filter would either be dealbreakingly annoying, or pleasantly reminiscent of actually reading a book, and I wish I could see the product in person to evaluate which way I lean.
When you upped the light to get the Libra Color to look similar to the others, you upped the light level too much. 50% is too bright. Can you please show us a video where you have the light on the Libra Color as accurate as possible to make the Libra 2/Kindle? I'd like to know what that light level is. Thanks.
Typically, it's about 20% to 30% more.
Great comparison of screen quality and text clarity. How do these 3 compare from a speed and navigation perspective. I have both the Kindle PW 6.8 and Libra 2 and the Kindle PW 6.8 is much faster in page turns and navigation compared to the Libra 2 from my experience. How would you compare the Libra Color page turn and general navigation speed compared to Libra 2 and Kindle PW 6.8?
Thank you so much for this! I will definitely wait for the libra 2 to get back in stock.
Huge difference in screen quality. I immediately noticed the same thing and returned my Libra colour. Color is nice but not at the expense of deep blacks and crispness of text. Such a shame.
Maybe you could try a top-down shot next time! Stable shots give us better clarity. Great video Maneet!
I filmed this on my iPhone! All of my other videos are much more professional lol
@@Maneetpaul I do know all your videos are really well shot! Even shooting on your iPhone, keeping it stable, especially when the audience is trying to see which screen is better (trying to notice tiny details) stable shots are better!
Brother please can your review the Clara BW vs Kindle Paperwhite and vs Clara 2E. This colour version is not for us book readers, we dont need colour we need brightness and a crispy font that is snappy and fast.
I bought the Libra Colour but returned it today. Very disappointing, as the display was so dark. I had to turn the light up to 80% min to get the same brightness as my Libra 2.
I exchanged it for the Clara BW and am extremely happy with it. Very crisp text and the display is awesome. Don’t even need the light on.
My advice is to get the Clara BW and if you want the bigger screen, go for the Libra 2. You won’t be disappointed!
I’m going to keep both Clara BW and Libra 2. The Clara is great because it fits in my small purse and would be great for traveling. I’ll keep the older Libra 2 for reading at night because I love the buttons and it’s more comfortable to hold while reading in bed. Best of both worlds! 😂
Actually, I don’t read coloring books. But I do want to buy a new e-reader. My primary choice would be a used e-reader, but people are selling the Libra 2 for almost the same price as a new one. (A new one is €199. A used one is at least €150.) So it makes sense to me to buy a Libra Color with pre-orders now. Maybe the price will change after April 30.
It actual use, as I have the Kobo Libra Colour, the text is sharp and clear. My old eyes are happy with the text quality. I think zooming in is pointless, my eyes can’t do that they just see clear text. I had a Kobo Libra 2 and never read it with brightness at zero, it was just too dark. I can read the text quite well at night with no lights on, in dark mode at 2%.
Have you gotten the new 1300 carta? Maybe I missed the video. Was curious if was a big difference.
Hi, I am looking for an e-reader. My issue is, I want to read Turkish books. I am checking the Amazon site but no Turkish options. I do live in the Dominican Republic and it is way to difficult to find Turkish books. My option is an e-reader that I can upload pdf files from the internet or I might check if I can register myself from the DR to a Turkish site. Probanly because of the region I will not be able to buy E-books that way so my option is to find it as a pdf file and send it to the E-reader. I used to read books long time ago and I would like to do it again. My budget is 150.00usd.
Thank you.
Thank you for this comparison, it’s very helpful! Just want to ask if you can still annotate on pdfs or any files that you uploaded yourself?😊
I thought you could run the Libra color in BW mode for more resolution. Was that a misunderstanding on my part? If not, what does that look like?
As far as i understand black is always in 300 ppi resolution while the color is in 150 so the only difference is the added layer for color which in turn makes it darker and a bit dusty looking
What is being shown here isn't a change in resolution, but in how the black and white text is filtered. The color layer is on top of it, and not completely invisible, hence the slight haze over the screen and it being darker.
I have my paperwhite unless there's something drastically changed I'll stick to it. If I need color I look at app on my phone
Same with my oasis. Seeing this black and white comparison convinced me even more. Even if amazon releases a color kindle, if that's the difference in brightness I don't think it's for me.
I'm pretty much sticking with my libra 2, which has better contrast than any ereader out there currently including the kindle until color e ink improves
This is mostly where I'm leaning. It's neat, but not enough of a gamechanger to be worth it. Only thing that gives me some doubt is that I could really use a warm front light since I'm sensitive to blue lights, and it's tough to justify shelling out $150 on a new BW device when color e-readers are out and no doubt more are coming. So the temptation to just upgrade to this is there.
Hey just a heads up, you use the term “crispy”/“crispiness” in your videos but the correct word is crisp or crispness.
Can you make a video comparing the carta 1200 to the new carta 1300 in terms of contrast and clarity?
I don't have the new Clara BW yet, but I definitely will show those side by side when I have it.
Is the haze still there on a fully black and white screen on the Color though? Ik it halves the resolution when there's color on screen, but that's not the case when it's just black and white.
It’s there all the time whether the page is in colour or black and white … I have the kindle paper white and kobo libra colour .. the paper white looks as if it’s a real solid page compared to the libra colour that looks less solid .. a bit more like an lcd screen showing print .. but still nearer an ebook than a lcd screen of course… but the libra colour still looks good enough to me .. I like it .. but the light is a bit less even than the paper white…
Guys, I am lost and need your help!
I have an old Kobo Aura 2 I bought about 8 (?) years ago, and I love it! It still works fine, and I enjoy reading with it. However, I mainly read at night because my brain has decided that reading is a night-time activity, so I'd like to have a new e-reader that comes with a night light.
I would like to have an e-reader with the shape of the Libra Color, but here comes the dilemma. I seldom read any color content. I might read some manga if I had a bigger screen (and most of them are B/W anyway), and I'm a bit concerned that the Libra Color may not offer a great B/W experience. Unfortunately, they discontinued the Libra 2.
I really do not want to get involved with anything Amazon sells since I like to have freedom with the repositories and libraries I can get books from, and I love the Kobo OS and general experience.
What should I do? Wait for Kobo to release a new device, hoping they will make a B/W version?
So what did you do? I'm in the same problem
@@chibii-chan047 At the moment I'm still keeping my Aura 2. I visited the only shop that sells Kobos, but unfortunately, I couldn't test one to compare the screen. So for the moment, I'm not going to buy anything
@@duKamzyy yeah That's what I'm going to do too. I hope a New libra b/w is gonna be released soon
Thanks for comparison! Anyway I'll wait until I see with my eyes.
Out of curiosity, does your case for the Libra 2 work for your Libra Color?
I don't have a Libra 2 case, but I can say that the Libra 2 does not fit in the Libra Color case.
no it does not
the power plug is a bit off
@@Maneetpaul Thank you! I appreciate the info!
Thank you for the review! I had heard online that the microsoft surface pen may work with the kobo, have you tried with that pen? If so, does it magnetize to the kobo?
Hey friend. I saw in a Libra Color review that it's apparently faster and smoother than other Kobos. I'm considering Libra 2 because I don't care about the color, but I could be swayed by the extra processing power, if it's noticeable.
The Libra 2 isn’t as fast as the new color model, but it’s certainly not that slow. If color isn’t important to you, then I think you’d prefer an extra crispy screen over a slightly faster device with a less crispy screen.
@@Maneetpaul Thank you!
Sat sri akal Maneet paaji, a weird thing happened on the Indian amazon website. All the kindles (except oasis) have been removed. It says "currently unavailable" for all other kindles. does this mean anything? are they withdrawing their kindles from the Indian market to replace them with a new kindle?
using colour decreases ppi to 150 , if you use black and white ppi is 300
Is there anyone that can tell me if cover for kobo libra 2 are compatible with the kobo libra colour? Cause i wanna buy a kobo libra colour but on amazon i can't find any cover for it, and i don't want to buy the original one
If you view a page where there are no colours [no highlights] and its just black on white, is the haze still there? And does the resolution ups from 150ppi to 300ppi?
It's the same. The haze is part of the physical layer in the hardware. It doesn't matter what you have on the screen.
that is 150dpi color vs 300dpi black and white, is it the same on pages without color?
Anyone knows if Fintie cover with hand grip would work for the Kobo Libra 2 color ? TIA ...
Can I ask what fonts are used on the devices in the video? Thanks
can you compare boox tab mini c and kobo libra color? Please🙏
Super info :) Would you be able to turn off colour to get to full resolution if you just wanted more contrast from reading?
No because the color is an actual physical filter layer (a sheet) that is added on top
@@rebecca4254 Ok, thanks for answer. I asked since looking at the technical-specifications on their sales site, it stated "300 PPI-black-and-white content, 150 PPI-colour content". I will receive it tomorrow and really looking forward to it. Thank you so much again :)
I can’t find the Libra 2 at all. It’s either almost $300 or not available
Unfortunately, It seems to be discontinued. I have same issue here. I really like the screen size of libra 2 but the only alternative now is Clara BW but you will lose the page turn button and get a smaller screen
Is it true they discontinued the kobo libra 2 to make room for the colored version?
Kobo officially didn't announce it will be discontinued. But it's out of stock everywhere so basically it discontinued. I believe libra 2 is the best kobo ereader so far in 7" category
what about battery?
Thank you for this!!!
Can you set the Kobo Libra Color to Black and white in settings?
Not that I saw (unless they add some sort of accessibility setting). It's meant to be color all the time.
I think with Nickelmenu you can "invert" the colors so then its looks like "black and white". Im not quite sure if this helps.
It could be fun to compare the screen of the Libra Color to the original Kindle. Just to show how far Eink screens have come.
waiting for libra bw with carta 1300, like clara bw
Libra 2 looks crisp compared to the color.
CRISP! Potato chips are crispy. Text and images are crisp :)
I like my text crispy, too ;-)
a BIT darker? Are you kidding me ?
Also does it look as fuzzy irl? Theres some fusiness and blur on thr livra color which makes text look ...idk . Is this a video effect?
Hi, thank you for review. What is your opinion on bigme e-reader?
I plan on making a video about that in the coming weeks!
Libra 2 and and libra color are the same size ?
No
@@Rondine-xs6gd not?
@@andyn6053 Libra 2: 144,6 x 161,6 x 9 mm weight 215 gr
Libra Colour: 144,6 x 161 x 8,3 mm weight 199gr
mhhh damn, not as crisp as i thought... Dont know if i should cancel my libra colour order now lol :(
You’ll only notice it if you put it side by side with the other e-readers. It’s a great device, especially if you read books with color. It totally depends on your preferences and needs!
I returned mine, it’s nowhere near as crisp as the Libra 2. This video is spot on. Once you compare them side-by-side, the differences very noticeable. I’m getting the Clara BW instead for 6 inch option.
The libras should not be compared to the kindle pw... it should be the oasis
Libra 2 looks better than Libra color.
Great review. I prefer carta 1300
So the Libra Color is more like reading a book 😂 . Other two are fakes.
Paperwhite vs the new kobo bw
My kindle is my ride or die 😂
I see you've blown up enough to get freebies haha! Mind sending your boy your used goods?
Absolutely does not make sense to get the kobo colour when all youre basically doing is reading books. If youre going to read a comic get an ipad mini which has way better colour.
It makes a lot of sense for me just reading books. The multiple colored highlighters is something I could really use. And I prefer an ereader over a tablet because it's easier on the eyes, distraction free, and has a much longer battery life
