I have a Kindle and an Ipad so couldnt really justify buying the Kobo Libra Colour. So anyway I bought one :) absolutely love it !
lol same and I do not regret it one bit.
😂😂❤
Thank you for an adult review of the Libra Colour. Concise and to the practical points on how most of us will use the ereader instead of how to "decorate" and "annotate" favored by the TikTok crowd. Mine arrives tomorrow so putting finishing mods on the Kindle books I have moved to Calibre.
Hope you enjoy it!
You made a mistake as I did when buying this crap. Once you get your kobe please tell me if I'm right. This ereader sucks I will keep my kindle and gonna ask my money back.
@@marioa.hernandezcatin4036hi...can you explain why you hate it?
Great review! This Ereader sounds like a winner. I think I will be moving away from Kindle as you did, so I found this video particularly helpful.
Thanks Michael! Hope you like it if you do choose to get one
Awesome review! I have one too with the same case and the pen and I love it. It is just a very satisfying device to use, and I’m a big fan of Kobo’s software.
Thank you! Technically I think this was the most ambitious video I’ve done to date.
I'm still clinging to my first gen Oasis (7 years old and counting!), I love how light it is and am not at all bothered by having to plop it into the charging cover between reading sessions.
I am coming to accept the reality that it's not going to last forever, and the newer Oasis revisions apparently have larger batteries and have lost their weight advantage so there seems to be no point in going for one of those.
To the point, thanks for the review, I'm watching tons of them these days trying to make a decision, and the Libra Colour is currently at the top of the list.
One thing I love about Kobos is that the screen does NOT sit flush with the bezels. I can't quite put my finger on why it's appealing, but the design gives less of a tablet vibe.
I hadn’t really thought about that but I see what you mean
Great review. Ordered mine because of your review. Thanks ^^
Hope you enjoy it!
Love your review. You are good at it! I just got mine last week after years in Kindles and i am loving it.
Thank you!
Regarding the Pocket integration: I use Pocket on both my Kobo Clara 2E and Kobo Elipsa 2E, and mostly love it. Had no issues with onboarding but can only get immediate sync with English-written articles. For some reason, syncing Hebrew articles takes a few days and often fails altogether (meaning, can't see then on my Kobo devices). Still awaiting my new Kobo Libra Colour delivery, though. Great review, thank you 💥
FYI, the Barnes and Noble Glowlight Plus also has page turn buttons as does the Onyx Boox Page device.
Thank you!
I love my new Kobo Libra Colour as well. I ended up with the same cover, and it works great with the stylus. I like to annotate and make notes - this was the selling feature for me more than the colour but the ability to see the book covers in colour is a bonus. I use a Kindle as well so I’m juggling two ecosystems at the moment but may look to do as you have and move them via Caliber over to Kobo. Thanks for your review.
Glad your enjoying it!
This e-reader looks amazing! This may end up being my next ereader. Thanks for the review!
Thanks Johanna, it's pretty great!
Great review!! Im loving mine too
Thank you!
Run Calibre Portable version with the programs folders and files inside Google Drive or Dropbox and.... You have your Calibre library and application in the cloud. That's what I do. 😊
Thank you! I’ll have to try that
Unboxolly is back! Yes 👏🏽
:D
😂🤣
I've been wanting to see a review of the Kobo Libra Color. I had opted for the more expensive (way more) Boox Tab Mini C a few weeks ago because I loved my Palma so much. I'm loving its color, battery life, and the metal casing that gives a premium feel. It's totally made me ignore my Kindle paperwhite. But as I mentioned on the "cons" the pricing is high on the Boox tab mini c, and I do question if it's worth it compared to the Kobo Libra color, plus I wish Boox tab mini c had the page turn buttons like Kobo Libra. Yours really looks nice and the color looks great. I love all your e-reader reviews!
I can’t justify buying one since my kobo forma is still in good working order, perhaps a christmas present to myself 😊.
Thank you for the review!
when i first heard they were coming out with a color version my mind went to the case was going to be colored, haha. i don't imagine the color ink will become a default feature, but it will be interesting to see how this unfolds. i love the option of having the buttons on my b&w libra
I think it will in the end.
See, to sell a book you want a nice cover, so COLOR. And it sells well if a cover is well done, has nice flashy fonts and so on. The problem is when you put it on an BW ebook reader... and colors get smashes and you might end up with a really ugly cover.
Just take a cover of a book and turn it dumb mode into grayscale... yeah houston we have problems. It is ugly.
Even though Color Screens always will be less SHARP then BW. The fact you have color, images in books have colors, if you can make notes... they can have a few colors. It is a change worth it long term.
Thank you for the review! I love my Kindle scribe, I need the bigger screen. I love the way it feels, the way it looks and performs. But, the big screen is the dealbreaker for me
The Scribe screen is wonderful
Been humming and hahing over switching from Kindle to a colour ereader. Chose this model after seeing your videos and I have to say I am very happy with it. Would like a Bigme for comics bt it's still too pricey right now.
I've had one for a few days, my last ereader was a kindle voyage which i loved but i broke ages ago and this is so much nicer to use. I love the colour book covers and ive got some books with coloured pictures like the lord of the rings illustrated version which looks amazing but for my normal usage, the colour is useless since I'm reading fanfiction so no covers or pictures. Its so nice just being able to place html files onto google drive and download them to the Kobo, so easy. It treats the html files just like a regular ebook so I don't have to go through the effort of converting it like I did with the Kindle. In bright sunlight, there is no need for the backlight at all which is great for me as I like reading while walking.
Ah didn’t know that about html files. Very cool
thank you !
You're welcome!
Good review. I am seriously considering this e-reader to replace my Kindle Oasis.
Cheers!
Next savings goal after my medical procedure in October
Hope it goes well!
I covet! I have a four year old Kobo though and it works just fine. My wife would veto a refresh. Heh.
I have a 13 year old Kindle Keyboard and a 4 year old Kindle, because i needed one with a light, that both still work fine, so I figure I'll need a refresh between 2035 and 2040.
I've been watching quite a few reviews on e-readers recently because I want to replace my kindle eventually (mainly due to its limits and since I can't access libraries in my country of origin through it, understandbly so), and this seemed like a good insight. I'm not set on an alternative yet, but think the kobo might not be for me.
Hi there. I’ve bought one of these today, and as you said I’ve had to leave the light on. But I notice a colour gradient with the light. It’s cooler on the side of the buttons, and gets gradually warmer. Sometimes it’s quite subtle, but in the night it’s fairly noticeable. Have you noticed the same?
Cheers.
I don't have one yet, but I'm pretty sure I've heard/read that there is a setting for this. Something to do with "rainbow?"
Quick question regarding the colour highlights - for me as someone who has to process books for work (I teach English at 2ndary level), being able to colour-code highlights is actually essential as it basically lets me sort my notes by category = colour. Does this Kobo allow you to say only see a list of all your red highlights like the kindle android app does?
No, it doesn’t ok afraid, you can filter to show markups, notes or highlights, but not to show specific highlight colours
Thanks ,I like kobo very much , and I bought an ink pad 4 which have turn button , audio , book, text to speech, and a 7,8 good screen ( unfortunately, not so good battery , and some little bugs, but still a very good device ). But I am interested by a new kobo sage 8’ screen with a good battery !
I do think the most interesting e-ink devices are the ones coming out of the smaller Chinese companies at the moment
@@CriminOllyBlog as tab mini C ?
Thanks for the review! In Canada the new version of the Clara is available in colour AND in black & white, but not the Libra, which is disappointing. I don’t really need the colour, tbh, but I kind of like the idea of the buttons and a slightly bigger screen. I cannot remember how I got Pocket to work on my old Clara, but it does work, so keep trying, if that is something you want. Btw, Rakuten owns Overdrive, which is why they are able to integrate it into the Kobo so well. We can’t borrow library books on Kindle in Canada, either, so Kobo is very popular here.
I take it back. Pocket is not currently working on my Kobo. Tried logging in using the Firefox browser and something just wasn’t working.
I think I read the other day that Rakuten no longer owns Overdrive?
@@cindyn628You’re right. It’s now owned by KKR, an American investment firm. Maybe they sold it with the agreement that Overdrive continue to be on the Kobo devices.
Fabulous that OverDrive is built in. I hate the way books have to be borrowed on Kindle. Thanks for a great review.
Thank you!
How does it compare to the Clara colour? Because it's quite a bit more expensive.
I also wonder, which e-reader is best for PDF files?
Not sure about your experience with the Oasis battery life, but I have one, I read daily for at least an hour at bedtime, and I charge it about once every two weeks. I suppose that qualifies as terrible compared to the Paperwhite which only needed to be charged about once every five weeks. But can't really say the battery life on any e-reader I've ever owned was ever a concern.
Cool review.
I'm interested in what kindle come up with
Ps new subscriber
Thanks for the sub!
@@CriminOllyBlog no worries 😁👍
I was really looking forward to your review, have been interested in this since it was announced, I am also looking to make the switch over from Kindle, and Kobo is the company I was mainly considering! Great review that covered everything I needed to know.
Side note: I recently started my own book related channel and wanted to take part in "June on the Range", what book would you recommend to someone brand new to the western genre?
Glad the review was useful! As for JOTR I would wholeheartedly recommend True Grit by Charles Portis - it’s wonderful
@@CriminOllyBlog Thanks for taking the time to reply, True Grit it is then!
Would you recommend for a non comic book reader? Would it be worth it to have the latest greatest?
If you're not going to be reading colour content I'm not sure it really justifies itself
I’m sorry but I can’t seem to understand the name of the app you use to remove the DRM. Can you please write its name?
Calibre 😊
🖤💚
The AIReader app I have on my phone does a lot of those things. Button page turning, finger brightening etc.
But, the Kobo looks fantastic. I bought my wife the first gen, and she uses that as much as her Kindle. May look into this one for her
Was able to sync my Pocket account easily in Canada. I’m not sure why you’re unable to.
I'll have to try again - thank you!
If you have one then I want one 🤭
😂 sorry
Most of the "available" books on unlimited are books you can download on your device but hardly ever do actually read
OMG, get back Satan! Kidding. Great review, time to do some serious maths. 😂😂😂
😂😂😂
The other sleep covers are lacking in design and functionality. Quite disappointing.
I really like this one
A brilliant, level headed review. I am deeply ingrained into the Kindle ecosystem, currently using an Oasis as my default device. I am hesitant to get a new device right now and I think colour e-ink is a technology that is very much in it's infancy, but is one that I know I will eventually own. I would, however, like to break free from Amazon, or any other ecosystem if possible. My reason being that I am uncomfortable with all this Political correctness nonsense going on at the moment. I don't like the thought that any of the books I have could be "censored" or edited without my permission. One of the reasons I still buy real, dead tree books is that the version I own will be the version I will always own, unless I choose to buy a revised edition. With e-readers, they can force an update on me without my permission, or even my knowledge.
The easiest way to avoid that (whatever device you’re using) is to download your books and get them into Calibre.
Glad you enjoyed the review!
@@CriminOllyBlog I think I’m going to take a look at calibre. Does it run on a Mac (I have a MacBook Air)?
@andrewbedford1713 yep, that’s what I am running it on
storage
32gb
7” comics are unreadable. I think you need at least 9
This reader is crap. I get mine yesterday and want my money back. It look so generic and cheap. The screen is garbage compare to kindle.
