For the first two seasons of The Walking Dead, it was just a show that my mom and I watched. Nobody talked about it, I was pretty sure we were the only two people watching it, but then season 3 rolled around, and it became something else entirely.

The fact we could've gotten Andrea beyond up to 4 more seasons feels like we've been robbed of having her grow into a similar character from the comics. Or a better character in general.
The truth is we traded Andrea for Carol, the reason we all love Carol in the show so much is because they gave her all of Andrea's personality and storylines from the comics
A mix of Carol and Michonne, I should say
@@benmcbride2590 Looking back, it's actually crazy how that turned out.
im gonna be so real with you, i think andrea in the show was written as conservative dick-wetting bait. she was a civil rights lawyer who decided to get with shane and the governor? she was kinda ruined from the start of the show.
I didn't like Andrea since she was introduced. Learning she was supposed to be a bigger character was nuts to me.
I think it was how useless she was when her sister died and then magically she was ok. 😂
The way rick looks michonne up and down before saying it must have been something else, i fully read that when it first aired as them being into eachother lol.
Thrifty dude, it's insane when you recount your personal experience watching Twd as I was a couple of years younger while it premiered. "Talking to the older kids on the bus about the common show of twd" is literally a life experience I had verbatim. Insane. I'd rate it higher than 8.5, it's exceptional and imo the peak of the show, before a different peak in season 5. Keep going man looking forwards to the season 5 Re:View.
8.5 might be a bit low, it might change on future watches but that was just how I felt during this rewatch cause it was truly the first time I watched it in its entirety since it was premiering. Seasons 4-6 are gonna have very high ratings so I have to balance it 😂
@@thethriftytypewriter 4-6 is dope, sure, but 3 just has this gritty realness to it. That's why it's so high for me. From 3.3 on, it feels like they're minutes away from falling apart, and truly - realistically- vulnerable. There's one scene where glenn is leading them on a warpath against the gov.... Glenn, bc he's the last man standing. Glenn, not Daryl Rick Merle tdog Maggie, but Glenn. Sure, in 4,5,6 They come close. Sure they're at risk, biting someone's neck or getting a bat, but the stakes are undeniably realer in 3 than anything else. Truly feels like the last time they could've all been wiped out.
God I miss these days, I used to have a really hard time in school but the best part of the day was talking to one teacher’s assistant who watched the show weekly as well good times.
That part about Michonne and Rick was too funny. You might be onto something there. 🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂
@@radiatedracoon3438i did that as well lol
You know, I don't think "crazy rick" was just a selfish asshole. He had just been through an extremely traumatizing event with his wife dying so horribly. He was lost. He may have also been dealing with schizophrenia too.
Just completed a rewatch, and Andrea wasn’t as unlikeable as I remember her being watching in real time. She straddled the fence and trivialized Michonne’s concerns about the Governor, but her belief that she held more sway & power than she actually did was her ultimate downfall.
it was a major mistake killing her off in my opinion - she should’ve lasted longer. ):
@@aiden-cz3ssAndrea was the beginning of them killing characters off for shock value unfortunately something they are still doing...even in the ones who live for some reason. (Why that show is getting praise I will never understand)
@@zgama6511 honestly I think wiping out t-dog and Merle was a shock as it was 😭😭😭 I think Lori was to an extent yet not really
@@zgama6511well written,well acted show
Did anyone else notice that the 3 questions they ask people in future seasons are the same 3 questions Rick was asked on the phone, caught that on my current rewatch. Love the videos and keen on the next one ❤
never knew that
I didint realise thats a near refrence
My name is Tomás, and every fictional character with my name is a piece of crap, this prisoner from TWD, that evil kid from Breaking Bad, etc. Just beautiful.
Edit: i remember someone else, Smoke from Mortal Kombat, also a (mostly) bad guy.
What abt tomas from skins? Cool guy
I hope you’re not a piece of crap, dude. 😊
@@JosephQPublic I also hope so
@@tracyxoxoo Didn't watched yet
and funnily they are both from AMC shows
Your observation about Andrea's story arc is spot on. At the end of season 2, where Andrea looked like she was about to be eaten by the forest walkers (before we saw her rescued by Michonne), I actually cried. By season 3 mid-point, I was ready to see her killed off, she had turned into such a pathetic character. And Rick's scene upon learning about Lori's death should have earned him an Emmy award. His pain was palpable, right through the TV.
Looking back this season does foreshadow Michonne eventually being apart of the Grimes family.
I’m rewatching right now and I love the scene where Beth hands Judith to a reluctant Michonne. She (Mic) starts to cry as Judith reminds her of her son Andre not knowing she’d eventually become Judith’s mother. Crazy
That's season 4 episode 2 but yeah it's a great scene
@@benmcbride2590 Ahhh you’re right!
I've been waiting for the whole of last month for season three.
Bang on with the season 11 vs season 3 "do we take the prison" approach
I was proud of that one
You are right, and I am sick of people pretending that the quality didn't drop@@thethriftytypewriter
This season and into the peak of the show (seasons 4-6) was the end of the “mono culture” and cable tv popularity in general. I genuinely miss this era. Unfortunately now we’re all stuck in our own “algorithm” world and can’t relate to each other anymore. It’s sad.
Oh yes, because everything was once so utopian
Season 3 really showed the environment that the world had in the early 2010’s. Really beautiful and now the world doesn’t deliver that same color and energy that it had.
I just rewatched season 3 and I wonder if they were planning for Rick and Michonne to eventually get together all the way from the beginning. There are a few small, personal moments between these two that I don’t think either character would have with any other character.
Yep! After seeing their moment in 3x16, Norman and Yvette started the Richonne ship. 😂
They were definitely flirting in 3x12 when Rick asked if Michonne wanted to drive because he sees things.
No sure at that time, it was a conscious writing decision. But 2 things are clear : they had killed Rick comic’s love interest (Andrea) and Andy was really motivated to have Michonne & Rick together. I believe the writers have started teasing a romance between from season 4
I think its said that gimple saw a connection when they were in the woods after they got Merle and daryl back and that's when gimple started making the plan for rick and michonne to get together
Lets not forget that in the comics even with Andrea around Michonne is Rick's best friend during the Alexandria era so they would always be close no matter what, so the fact that Andrea was no longer around it made sense that they gave that position to Michonne.
I truly think that "made to suffer", the mid season finale set the stage for BANGER mid season finales to be a thing. Like 4.8, 6.8 and 8.8. And hell yeah. What you said about it feeling "real" and the stakes being legitimate and grounded is never more true than in this season.
I enjoyed season 3 and I agree clear is also my favourite from the season mostly because of carl and michonne bonding and rick opening up, I think andreas character arc for the season was perfect honestly because shes always in the show atleast been the " I can fix him" type of girl like she even got with shane but I her trying help both sides than trying to switch when she can't fix the governor kinda annoyed me I felt bad for Milton dying though. When rick and michonne have there conversation I love it the sparks were in the air for rick anyways
Every episode of season 3 had dramatic new elements and payoffs. You'll see Woodbury wonder if it's legit, then see the governor slay the army in the next scene. It really was the birth of waiting excitedly to see the premiere the next week. The two communities were balanced perfectly, where in future seasons they had trouble with too many communities, scattered survivors, characters, etc. Season 3 best season
Me: having a bad day
Thrifty Typewriter: Walking dead video
Me: having a better day
Season 3 feels like the black sheep between season 1 to 6.
It totally does but I absolutely love it. I actually like it more than season six. I love the Merle story, I love Clear, I love the prison setting and the raw feel of the season. They were desperate and hardened from being on the road. The Governor is always fun to watch on screen.
Season 3 is one of those seasons that REALLY made me feel like nobody was safe, episodes like "The killer within" and "When the dead come knocking" were some of my favorites just because of how much anxiety those episodes gave me when I first watched them.
Your channel is criminally underrated. I just found you last night. I've got the crud right now so I've been binge watching a ton of your videos. It's great stuff man. Hoping for your continued success and happy to have found you. Great stuff!
Just found your channel while watching your vids on TOWL. This is such a great analysis, can’t wait for the season 4 one, and yes I caught that Michonne/Rick spark from season 3. Season 4 the writers just started moving them and Carl closer. Loved it.
2 things i love about season 3 it feels more brutal and the dumb flashlight sliencer it does work i tried it with a gun but pro tip u have to remove the springs or the gun wont work oh fun fact about season 3 the director wanted to kill baby judith cause in the comics she dies but the cast and proudcers kept her away from him
When Andrea uses ricks gun to shoot her self, You can hear a casing eject. But Rick’s gun is a revolver. It’s always made me laugh.
Brilliant video, I love season 3 so much, it took a rewatch for me to appreciate this season as much as I do, but I’m glad I did. And I’d love to see an episode analysis on ‘made to suffer’, I think it’s one of the most underrated episodes in TWD and not enough people talk about it.
You by far are one of my favorite content creators. I genuinely admire your format and perspective. I know you shared that you’d only make videos of media that you felt compelled to create. I’m hoping you’re going to make videos about the remaining episodes in TOWL as I noticed you haven’t created videos 3,4,5, &6. I’ve been waiting to see your thoughts.
he made 3 and 4, just not 5 and 6 yet
I miss these days back then waiting and anticipation for Sunday night was so fun and I took it for granted not ever thinking about the show ending and just sitting with the family watching our favorite show every Sunday was so amazing and the writing and popularity of this show then was just amazing. I’m blessed to have lived during the walking dead era and wish I could go back 😂😂😂 this show was just amazing season 1-6. Best time ever for this show imo. ❤❤
You nailed it! The first half of season 3 is one of my favorites and the mid-season finale is easily in my top 10 favorite episodes.

It's even funnier realizing that Andrea gets married to Rick in the comics and dies just as they are about to find out about the commonwealth. Her death really wrecked Rick. She was a sacrificial lamb in the show.
These season perspectives are really nice. I'm glad you are doing them. I love season 3 even though it has flaws but it because of the nostalgia I had. It was great to be a walking dead fan when this season 3 was airing. I thought it was cool that we got answers to both Merle and Morgan which were both loose ends from season one. I'm glad you are going to do Made to Suffer episode analysis. that is one of my favorite eps. I wish you would do one on 18 Miles Out too. Keep up the good work!!!
Keep doing these seasons video watched all of them so far and will continue love these there amazing
You nailed that first scene and how I felt about it. It set the whole tone. Perfectly executed in my opinion. They were no longer the scared group, they were a competent group of action and everyone was on the same page.
This is a great video!! I’ve been waiting for this. Also, could you do a review on Forget, from TWD? It’s one of my favorite episodes, and I love the ending of the episode.
It's funny that when I think about TWD I say season 3 was my favorite but actually, the only thing that stands out is the first half, especially the focus on how much they've grown since season 2
I love the weather and aesthetic to this season, also The Governor is definitely a standout villain for the show. I do, however, find this season to be a BIT overrated. The first half of this season, especially episodes 1-4 and 8, are so strong...but 3B is pretty mediocre to me.
Of course, Clear is a standout of the entire series, but the only other episodes of 3B that I really enjoy are eps10, 14, and 15 (13 is decent too). I think the finale to this season is probably one of the weakest, with the prison battle being kinda underwhelming, Andrea's death being...hard to watch, and the standout moments of the episode really being The Governor taking out his people and Carl taking out that kid in the woods. Andrea as a character was just written super wild in this season, just bad choice after bad choice 💀
Looking forward to season 4 though, while season 3 is where the show starting taking off in popularity, I do think season 4 is where the start started hitting its prime (both in terms of story and cast)!
We have very similar tastes I’ve found from your comments on the show 😂 the next vid is literally titled “Season 4: the beginning of the golden era” 😂😂😂
@@thethriftytypewriter Haha, great minds think alike! Looking forward to it!
To me, there's something special about the first three seasons of the show. Even though the governor got away at the end of season 3, I still feel like that ending could have been the end of the show, if they had wanted to end it. (Thank God they didn't) It's such a beautiful moment to see the group taking in the people from Woodbury, especially for Rick, fulfilling his character arc by looking up and finally not seeing the ghost of Lori tells him that he's finally on the right path. You said that you think season 3 is a bit overrated and season 4 is when the show hits its stride but I truly disagree. I love seasons 4-6, it's an incredible part of the show, but by season 4 so many of the og characters from the first three seasons are gone, Lori, Dale, Shane, Andrea, T Dog, Merle. Not that that's a bad thing necessarily, I love that you never know if characters are going to make it as it really shows how hard the group struggles to survive and remain hopeful, but by the end of season 3 we had the conclusions of so many storylines and character arcs that began in season 1 which makes the first three seasons feel more succinct. You said 3B lets the season down but you still said that 1-4, 8, 10, 13, 14 and 15 are all very strong, I would also argue that episodes 5, 6, 9 and 12 are very strong too. The worst episodes in my opinion are 13 and 14 but you said you really enjoy them. That only leaves episode 7 which is still good, and the finale which I feel is a little overlooked because it's hyped up to be the big confrontation between both groups, which would later be Too Far Gone. But thank God we didn't get that in ep 16 because we'd already be on 4B story at the beginning of s4 rather than picking up at the prison with the sickness arc. It also has that incredible scene with Carl as you mentioned. I love the scene between Rick and Herschel discussing what Carl did as well, and the governor's slaughter of his own people is one of the most horrific scenes in the walking dead. I do apologize for rambling on so long but I'm very passionate about season 3 because I do believe it to be the best season. It has 2 bad episodes, 4 decent episodes and 10 brilliant episodes. I think those numbers are unmatched because if we look at s4, it has 8 brilliant episodes (2, 4, 5, 8, 9, 11, 14, 16) 7 decent episodes (1, 3, 6, 7, 10, 13, 15) and 1 bad episode (12) and s5 has 9 brilliant episodes (1-3, 9, 10, 11, 14, 15 and 16) 5 decent episodes (5, 7, 8, 12 and 13) and 2 bad episodes (4, 6). Season 6 would be around the same, they're all very contentious but I think season 3 just about beats them, and I would take the worst of the season, 313 and 314 over 412 and 504 and 506 any day. That's probably not the best rating system tbf 😂 but I hope I got my ridiculously long point across
i rewatch the walking dead about every other year. this time, carol was by FAR my favorite character. her arc is unreal. so good
Thank you so much for releasing this video with out it I wouldn’t be able to tell what month it is. 🙏
I graduated high school when this season came out and I remember that summer when they revealed the trailer at comic con I was so hyped I think rewatched that trailer almost everyday until it released, I love the Fight The Dead Fear The Living tagline. But yea I definitely remember this was the season I got a lot of my friends to start watching the show with me.
The Governor story are was what got me absolutely OBSESSED with the show. He is still my favorite character to this day
this season is one of my favourite seasons but now that you mention the second half of this season i realized that my favourite memories were from the first half of the season and i wanted to do anything but watch the second half of the season but otheebthan that this season is amazing to me!
Insane Rick had some of the best writing in the entire franchise.
Watching this video is very funny since this is my favorite season and the only one where I adored all that was shown throughout the whole season.
Season 3 is when the budget for the show started to increase and you could tell. S2 and especially S1 had very strange sound effects for guns and walkers. The walkers in S1 and part of S2 had a very mechanical growl, best example of this is when theyre in the sewer at the bottom of the building they're stuck in looking to see if they can get out through there; there's a walker eating a rat and it's growl always stuck with me as very comically bad. The guns also sounded like they were recorded in a warehouse which I thought was funny. But S3 really stepped it up, and everything felt much more modern.
I WAS WAITING SO LONG FOR THID POOKIE
2:35-2:51 LMAO, you ain’t lying
You a cool dude, and this is a damn good video! Just curious have you read the comics at all? I havent but just curious
LOVE IT!!! CANT WAIT 4 SEASON 4
The Season 3 opening is just so good. Everyone entering an abandoned house, taking out walkers in it, everyone entering one by one, Lori’s baby bump growing, everyone not saying a word.
It’s just so good.
I loved the differences between the prisoners. You had a guy like tomas who clearly is a bad dude, but then you have someone like oscar whos first concern when hearing about the world going to hell is wanting to know if his family is alright, just shows deep down he isn't a bad man, he just made bad decisions
been waiting for this banger to drop! 🔥🧟♂️
This video on the walk home finna hit
I hate the character of Andrea, and Laurie Holden did too. Andy and Laurie were both very much aware of their character's future together and both looked forward to that storyline, but, 1 person stood in their way; Glenn Mazara.
He wrote the character of Andrea so badly he ended up getting fired for it. Andrea wasn't supposed to die at all and wasn't originally supposed to even side with the governor. Glenn wrote her character as a person who literally couldn't decide what side she's on and it literally annoyed Laurie so much she complained multiple times to Glenn. By the time AMC was aware of Andrea's death, it was too late. The entire thing had been paid for and AMC refused to scrap it because they didn't wanna waste money. Glenn was fired before the scene was ever filmed.
It actually makes me so mad. Wasted her character.
And don't forget that in her original death only Tyresee and Sasha were there making her death going from pointless to even more pointless.
I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on season 11 in 8 months
this was the last season i was super hype for until i returned in 2022
Very relatable start😂😂. As far as I knew I was the only one I knew who watched it, until season 3 where I found out other people in my grade at the time also watched it😂😂😂😂.
The main reason i think the show took off was this, it was the moment the characters stopped being victims of the world. For most of season 1 and 2, at least one person would be screaming and crying. In this season, the survivors understand the world, they're not afraid of taking the prison because they've learned to abuse the walkers slow and dumb nature. It's more entertaining to most people to see competent characters
Hey thrifty I suggest you should do a episode analysis on a season 10 or nine episode with the whispers, it would be really cool and please and thank you
Dang that felt like the shortest summary😭 but so resl tho. That's an interesting way of looking at it
Hi! I was thinking about your conflicted feelings on the TWD: TOWL finale and I come back to this idea. It was billed as a love story it was between Rick and Michonne but also love and faith in humanity, which both characters have displayed over the years. The CRM was the antithesis of that ethos. Cold, cynical, dark. This may be the end of their chapter but there are many “A”s that were influenced by Rick or the ripple effect of what happened, who still have journeys in this world. I’m optimistic to see what happens next.
Anytime i think about, or someone mentions The Walking Dead, my mind always goes to Season 3 straight away/ the prison era. Im not sure why, but it gives me the most nostalgia.
Didn’t even mention Tdog 😢
I was already out of school by the time season 3 premiered so I didn’t experience that part but there were plenty of people online that were happy to talk at length about everything twd so I was good there 😅
Richonne was definitely being developed in season 3.
are you making EP 5 & 6 review of TOWL?

This season was good!
We might be the same age. I think season 3 was when I started high school as well. It was always a topic of conversation come Monday.
Funny you said you just started high school when season 3 came out. I had just finished high school when it came out. Time really flew.

Way to early here but I can't wait to hear your opinion on season 8, everyone I know stopped watching after wither 6 or 7 but 8 has always been my favorite just above season 3
I get the hate for the second half… BUT Merles arc was so freakin good. He’s honestly my favourite character
Love the retrospective videos. Great content as always 👍🏽
They probably didn't bother with finding baby formula since Lori planned on breastfeeding, which is a good call in the apocalypse. This was something I didn't even think about until a few years ago when I had my first kid.
His wife just died I think insane Rick being hard to deal with is just how a person might grief fym man 😭
5:09 to be fair this was once again a show runner being edgy when no one wanted them to. There were tons of stories about how she got told she’d have so much more and then they kill her. Robert kirkman allegedly tried to fight it and then the show runner was fired and replaced with gimple. Then 5 years later he did the same thing
Woah yeah that was super short
My exact experience 😂
what did u think of towl finale? i thought it felt rushed and i really thought the crm would’ve been set up at the “thanos” of twd verse. but it was still a good ending and i liked it. what were ur thoughts on it?
S3-6 was the true peak of TWD. I have all 4 of those seasons at like a 10/10. The other seasons are still great, for the most part. But this era just gives me a certain nostalgia.
I like this season, especially the first half. But I hate how much it strays from the comic. I wish they included Thomas from the comic. Having a serial killer running around amongst them was so great in the comic.
It’s when the show truly got good to me
Again i say when you upload “What is that? What is T H A T ?”
I don’t know if i missed an announcement, but why isn’t their a video about the one who lived final? It was like the finally of the walking dead and I would love to hear an organised take on the episode because it left me both conflicted, underwhelmed, and at a loss on how it supposed to feel about it.
All this is to say I need someone to tell me how to feel about it. If anyone has any videos talking about the final and where the walking dead can go from here please recommend it. I need closure!
You were in HS during S3? Damn, i am old! haha
Andrea was the first time I'd ever rooted for a character's death in TWD. I VIVIDLY remember screaming at her the entire episode, and jumping up and down cheering when they revealed she was bit. By the end, I hatedddd Andrea. She was so annoying and like you said, made the wrong decision at every turn. But I loved it too. I thought it was great writing and we were meant to hate her. I hadnt read the comments and still thought TWD writers could do no wrong 🤦🏿♀️😂
Rick's "kill coat/jacket" was first worn by Andrea. Yall see that? Talk about opposites lol
Hey Thrifty! Season 3 is one of the best in my opinion. And I think episode 10 “Home” is the best episode on the 2nd half. But yeah, after the first 8 episodes were really explosive, the pace on the 2nd half really pampers down. I agree I felt nothing when Andrea died and I have noticed on countless tv shows that writers tend to make a character insufferable when they want to kill them off. That way when it eventually gets killed off people won’t be mad about it. That’s what happened with Andrea, she was a good character that just turned into a dumb blonde that didn’t know what to do once she had to make a decision every time.
I think the finale of season 3 is the worst finale in all of walking dead as they hyped up this epic final battle between the 2 throughout the whole season only to be a disappointment. That’s when they started milking the show for everything they could. Prolonging story arcs so they can make more seasons. Episode too far gone was supposed to be the season finale of season of season 3 and yet we got 8 more episodes of the group in the prison. The virus thing was really cool in my opinion and I liked it but definitely felt like that was the start of them making more filler episodes and prolonging story lines.
Was there a Season 1 retrospective, or was it too short to receive one?
my biggest annoyance with season 3 is killing off 4 significant characters who were present in season 1.
I hated how the writing treated Andrea in this season. I never disliked her in the previous. She stood up for what she believed in, stood up for others around her. She made some bad calls at times, but I felt she was normal in her circumstance. It felt like SUCH a 180 for her in S3, and it was really disappointing to watch her become someone who made every single bad decision. It was out of character for her, it felt.
10:00 YES Agreed! Also I think what could have made season 3 the best season was if S4 E8 was this season’s finale and Andrea was killed off and the very least redeemed
Anyone else notice when rick first sees loris ghost shes not pregnant but then when he sees her later on she is pregnant like bitch couldnt even be dead a few days before moving to a new guy
Damn; she found Ghost Shane in the cornfield....
When do we get to see your opinion about the last two episodes of towl??
