- X-Wing has had quickbuilds for a long time, but it looks like they may be coming back in a new way!

I am just back to X wings, a game I left 5 years ago... Your channel really helped me to get back to the game and catch up. Keep the great job, your channel is awesome!
I love x-wing and one of the reasons I enjoys it so much is the vast customisation for each ship. I would not be interested in quick builds in any format.
As always thanks Crabbok for the great content 👍
I feel like AMG made enough changes that it would warrant a full version name change… I guess the idea is that it is only 2.5 is that we’re using a lot of the same physical components? Looking forward to what they do with the idea of quickbuilds in the future
I really liked the idea of quick builds at the start to make life easier, but having so many cards to search through was a pain. I tried having pre collected card packs but quickly ran out of some cards! A single card with all the upgrades on would have been really nice at the start, just to ger used to everything
I really want a deck of quick-builds with all the upgrade text on it for playing with family and friends when they come over. I usually use listfortress and print and play lists with ships they want to play as, but it's alot easier to hand them a stack of cards and ask them to pick which ones they want from there. I feel like I'd get X-Wing to the table much more than I do now for casual play.
Ive used quick build a lot at the beginning when playing with my son. That was a perfect way to get started
This is the first time I’ve heard quick builds talked about in a way that I might actually be ok with. Could see it happening in the future. Also, if you organized your cards in binders or something it would probably be somewhat easier to get your cards and play…
I do have binders and while that certainly does speed up the process, it still takes longer than I'd like.
@@Crabbok yeah I just remember a previous video where you talked about this. I think it was the cardboard base pieces you didn’t have in a binder that annoyed you. It was probably that and not the cards
So quickbuilds are now actually ... quick. Brilliant!
All they had to do was assign the quickbuilds a point value & allow them in tournament. It would have been a great way to get thematic, otherwise illegal or sub-optimal builds on the table. For example, quickbuilds that contain Juke on a ship that doesn't get free evades.
That being said, you are absolutely right: if they had made the quickbuilds so that you don't have to find cards, they would have worked in the niche they were meant to.
I personally really like the quick builds. It's nice to chose the pilot I like and just know what to grab with them and then have a good time.
I really like quick builds and would welcome more variety. I don't play often, and so many times I've been to my squad app and found the points had changed and I was over the limit.
The x-wing art on that card is awsome, not sure if x-wings have ever looked so good
Hi all,
A few thoughts where I feel things are positive, neutral, or negative:
1) X-Wing with hundreds of pilots and hundreds of upgrades, none with point costs on them is intimidating. Definitely a barrier to new players. POSITIVE.
2) I can count to twenty easy. Pick 3 to 5 ships that add to 20 is no sweat. Once I have the ships, I have (say) 30 points to spend on upgrades per ship. Realistically, this is more complicated than having 200 points for everything, but this system breaks the problem down into smaller steps. NEUTRAL.
3) The quick build card showing above, is great. No need to dig thru a collection and find 3 to 6 cards. POSITIVE.
4) FFG was trying really hard to find the correct price of each upgrade. If in tournaments, an upgrade was never used, that told them something. If an upgrade was used all the time, (or THIS upgrade was used all the time with THAT upgrade), it told them something. But if AMG heavily emphasizes pre-built ships, there will be a lot less beta testing and polishing of these upgrades. I think that this is a hidden flaw in the new direction. NEGATIVE.
5) AMG is going about this is a way that is alienating their core players. HUGE NEGATIVE.
6) I can see that losing the initiative and going first with your aces the whole game is a crippling disadvantage, which a designer logically might want to change. So randomizing the order each turn, before doing dials seems to me a good thing. But having to select dials without knowing who wins ties is too big a change, I feel. NEGATIVE.
7) If AMG is clever, they can have two tiers of players. The new players use an ever expanding collection of pre-builds like the one above, and the expert players that beta test new stuff, and make these clever new builds. But by alienating the expert players, they will lose a giant resource, which has done a giant amount to promote the game. NEGATIVE.
Warm regards, Rick.
I've not played X wing before but i looked in to it recently. The thing that put me off a little bit was trying to figure out all the upgrades so I wouldn't mind quickbuilds as an option
First time posting but have been following your channel for a while. Looking forward to your tips on 2.5 / 3.0. Thanks for the info.
For those who want everything in one spot. Build your list on YASB and then print it with all text.
QB was perfect for beginners. I've taught a lot of people through it. It teaches new players a lot of basic synergy loadouts. This helps them learn how to build.
QB should stick around but they shouldn't take the spot light.
2.5 has taken a lot of list building out of X-Wing. I really hope they don't go farther down this path. QB has always been meant for beginners.
Definitely agree on putting the numbers and slots on the cards. I'm a new player just getting into the game, and it's crazy to me that the game maker's provided way to build squads is a massive PDF spreadsheet online. The lack of new player support right now really makes X-Wing feel like a dead game. I think *Netrunner* currently has a better new player experience, and that game's being run as a fan made passion project. : \
Quick builds that have all the text would be awesome. It would make set up so easy. I play with my dad but we don't use upgrades because he doesn't speak English. If they came out with quick builds with the text in Spanish on it, life would be so good!
X-Wing V1 for life lol
Thanks for doing these videos
QB could be fun if supported by OP kits regularly by AMG as a alternate option to standard and extended. Could work for standard as long as they dont include banned upgrades on the cards
Totally agree, the Quick Build cards should have all the text of each improvement in addition to the ship and the pilot. That way it is not necessary to have to take out all the cards and so on.
I felt that this was perhaps the way they are moving towards. They can use tournament builds to see what people want to run. The fact that the new version is 2.5 days that big changes are still coming.
I can see them going the MCP route with set characters/load outs.
I would highly get the game to the table more if quick builds like this became the norm. But whilst it is great for players like us, that's not what X Wing was built on, so I can see the current player not being as excited as we would be. I understand that. AMG will need to move forward cautiously or lose their original player base.
I liked the expansions quickbuilds. With those was it quite easy to start a game and I got a quick overview of the ship and it's traits. But I also have to complain, that some quickbuilds need cards, which weren't included in the expansion. The quickbuilds new design seems toberase this lack. so I'm looking forward to them.
I am happy to play quick builds as an optional side game mode. As long as it doesn't replace regular ship building I am ok with it being a thing
Great vid sir
Tried doing a search. Where can we find some quick build cards?
We have held local tournaments with quick builds and Aces High with quick builds. But we, all of the players here locally, absolutely do not want quick builds to be the standard, just an option.
Quick-builds has been the best solution and direction for new players-then after some play they would have the mental tools for 200. They should have just stuck with that instead of this crazy new loadout system. The only thing I liked about it was that it motivated toward the requirement of upgrades, but this could have been better implemented with a 200 point builds with, say, 34 points that can only be used for upgrades. A 100:16 point ratio so people can easily scale up for 350 or 500 Huge formats. With all due respect, AMG, I’m sincerely sorry how much work you put into this new loadout system. I’m not saying it didn’t have merit for discussion, but it really should have been left on the ‘cutting-room floor’ in lieu of a simpler more elegant solution. I won’t even go over part 2 of my solution again-the one that addresses the effect missions have had on the point cost of low initiative generic pilots. Instead, I implore fans struggling with ‘2.5/3/Ugh’ to head down to ‘BGG x-Wing 2nd Edition’ and read up on the 2 options I suggested for that. I’m not saying my solution is the only solution-I sincerely hope others chime in with ideas of their own, but it seems someone needs to help fans unite to spearhead a collaborative and respectful fix to big mistake AMG is currently making in X-Wing.
I, humbly, say all this with with all due respect for your work and time AMG.
And, as usual, thank you for the update Crabbok.
I like the card with everything on it, this idea is ideal for doing quick events.
I don't mind standard loadouts as an option. There was a community made 1.0 changes I came across once where each ship had different chassis, and was required to take a chassis, which in turn determined point cost and different upgrades you could take (or I think even required to take on some of them, like proton torpedoes)
Xwing crisis protocol coming soon.
Maybe a points bonus for quick builds.
This helps with my understanding of my the game
When I took the jump into x-wing 2.0, I was actually disappointed at its list complexity. I play lots of miniature games and thought it was a little more open and play. Discovered the quick build cards and never looked back. I’m all for quickbuilds as a option to play this game. But would definitely prefer MCP style cards.
If standard loadouts or quick play builds means more product that is a stack of pilots with new skills and such to add on to existing ships, I'm all for it.
I’m 50/50 on this. I really like being able to customize my own squadrons, but wouldn’t be opposed to efficient quick builds.
I think that quick builds are fine for new players and helps them get into games quick. But I think that upgrades and list building shouldn’t go away.
What is the best squad builder app that is currently up to date?
for me personally, i do not like the idea of quick picks. personally i think it would make the game boring and mundane for a few reasons.
#1: if all ships are the same build from quick picks, the game quickly becomes to standard and the thrill of flying against ships with different load outs would cease.
#2: strategies to defeat certain squads would be monotonous and mundane because you know the exact loadout of the squads
#3: I myself love building different squads with the same ships with different loadouts thus changing what the squad strengths and weaknesses are, I'm new to the game but it seems like that's what people enjoy the most; building their own squads and testing it out against others
#4: I like to fly a certain way and I i like to optomize my fleets for the playstyle i play, having prebuilt squads would force me to fly a different style, that would be fine if it was my choice but now it would not be
this is not a full bad mouth review of quickbuilds. i think quickbuilds are good for players who are new to the game and don't understand how to build their own squads yet. when a friend and i bought the game, we used the quickpick cards to get started, it was fun for a little while but that quickly got boring and very soon I wanted to diversify and build my own layouts as did my friend. but having quickbuilds for the future of X-wing? I don't think this would be a good idea and really turn alot of the fanbase away from playing. I think that it would making watching official X-wing tournaments boring too because it takes away from the spontaneity of unique builds. players would know exactly how to defend and fly against quickpick squadrons because they would all be the same builds. But this is just my opinion.
Great feedback! Yeah I think quickbuilds could be a great side option at best. I don't think they'd ever fully replace the idea of building your own list from scratch. Very fun option for newcomers or returning players who might easily get overwhelmed though.
There would probably be more than one quick build card per ship though.
I quite like the idea. I love X-Wing but it’s always the same, I want to play but can I be bothered to set it up? I recon this could speed things up with standard loadouts. Great video Thanks 👍
I would like to see a points shake up once the meta gets stale, but so far its pretty neat seeing all the different ships.
I really wish they kept a play option which kept upgrades as part of your list build as well as a separate load out option. Quick builds can provide a quick & easy "beer and pretzels" type of casual fun but I think they can kill serious play and list creativity. I think what you are predicting where each pilot will pretty much boil down to 1 load out that everyone uses will come to pass and ceative list building will be dead. There's a difference between making a game accessible and dumbing it down. I'm not confident AMG acknowledges that difference. I've little confidence in the viability of this game in the future.
As a casual player I'm a fan of quick builds
I love X wing
The only way quick-builds enhance the game is if they're giving away something you couldn't afford/build yourself.
Still not interested in playing 2.5 AMG-Wing. But very interested in the Amazong gift card.
Honestly, standard loadouts as how the game should be played, would actually get me to play X Wing again.
I put all my quickbuild cards into a storage box, because I'm a packrat. Never used them.
Like quick builds.
Otherwise takes nearly as long to make squadrons as to play games. Or seems so... 😄
This would make it a very strange, hope they don't take away normal builds, fingers crossed
I thought the x-wing was flying inside an asteroid and shooing out a hole in the asteroid till I notices the bottom silhouette of the star destroyer.
X-Wing
Never liked quick. I never even played one. Too restrictive, too narrow, obviously all unoptimized. I'm out of third edition though. Played three games to give it a chance, won two, hated them all.
Hi, there is a X-wing 2.0 legacy project to keep the ruleset and adapt new releases to 2.0, send me a PM and I'll give you the Discord link.
Be even cooler if it made X-wing cheaper again!
i really like quick builds so you dont have to search through so many cards.
I like the idea of quick build tournaments especially to get new players into tournament play kinda an entry level tournament play.
I dont like the idea of "Quick Builds" becoming the norm. Using Vader as an example too, if there are 1-3 Vader lists that are the only thing that wins, then if you go to a 20 player tourney, and 7 of the players have the exact same list, it becomes stagnant. Meta lists are bad enough, but if you have setlists for all the ships it takes away from individuality, which is what makes or made this game fun. I loved being able to run my "Old Man" lists ( 3 Bounty Hunter Firespays, 4 B-wings, and such ), its how I have fun. These new changes are forcing me to play in a way I don't like.
They aren't forcing you to do anything. If you want to use quick builds, for fast fun games, then you can. If you have your own builds then use them. No one is stopping you lol I don't see what the problem is xD. It makes the game easier for new players, and easier to just make quick squads to have a fun game.
It's a new game.
My league is using threat level cards for our next session ... first night is TL4 and the last night of league will be probably TL16 ... we are not going to be playing 2.5 .. amg can fx off with what they have done
This is not the game I signed up for (and spent many hundreds of dollars to play). Unfortunately, given how much I'm hating 3.0 and how much other players are telling me they like the simplification of list building, this is a direction I can see it going.
Wow people may Love this change but I do not, why fix it if it's not broken .
Wait so the app is dead now?!
YASB was/is so much better.
Yes, they discontinued the app. 3rd Party sites like YASB and others keep it going.
I'm more ok with quick build than the load out system
Well, for me the future is X-Wing 2.0 from FFG. A balanced fun strategic game of dog fight with Star Ships. I have all material necessary to continue play it. I don't give a fuck for any new rules, scenarios, range 0 or any other bullshit like Quick Build for noobs or lazy players.
Why can’t they just leave it alone? XD Get it right and stop messing with the game. LOL
Still holding hope for 2.5. I don't like the squad building at all. Too easily to make certain builds completely substandard.
I'm all about the quick builds. Ever since playing MCP I've really enjoyed the simplicity of not dealing with upgrades anymore. Even in Legion it feels like every unit has one or two that you might as well staple to it. I feel like FFG always did a bad job at balancing upgrades to make true customization really viable. Probably an unpopular opinion, but I'm hoping AMG slowly phases them out of both games in favor of MCP-style unit sheets.
This sucks and flys in the face of why I loved x wing originally. If it had been like this when it came out at first I’d have never played the game.
I honestly don’t mind the new system but I do feel like it’s five and take. We will still dog fight bc that’s what made the game. I don’t care that they restricted a lot of it. This is the way.
i like these quick build cards. the original quickbuild cards--just text--are so boring looking. and not functional.
