In this video, Matt Willis Bagpiper restrings the joints on his middle tenor with real hemp string after a suggestion Ted Anderson, supplier of natural hemp and cobbler's wax. Also, Matt re-strings his other drone bottoms with yellow linen (waxed and unwaxed) and polyester to compare over time how each performs in real life!

Hey I'm a pipers well at learning and you're helping me how to sort things out on my bagpipes I'm just gonna new airbag today
great video. lot of usefull info. 6 months a respectable time line. im betting on the hemp !
Hemp and Whiskey, no wonder it's called the highlands.😜
Thank you for the contents keep making videos
Glad you are finding it useful! And 12 is a great age to start learning the pipes! Feel free to ask questions or even schedule a lesson if you can. Cheers!
Im curious if slightly warming cobbler wax over a candle or something of sorts would eliminate it crumbling
Also I tie a knot on it when I first begin to him in processBlack waxed him or yellow either one works great with tiff on tape for second seal
It would be great to link the products you review and use in the description, love the video thanks for the knowledge 👍
The problem with leaving links to external sites in the description (where you can buy stuff) is the CPM (the amount I make in ad revenue for the video) get cut quite a lot, and there ain't that much money to be made on CZcams. You can always Google the products I'm reviewing to find them.
I had no idea, thx Matt
I used to use the 1 waxed 1 unwaxed yellow hemp method but was finding I had to add or remove a wind of hemp a lot. A year or so ago I redid every joint with real hemp and haven't had to touch them since.
Good to hear! I'll be curious how my experiment works out. I've had to add real hemp to those joints once. I've added linen three times now, and still haven't had to modify the polyester threaded one...
Good morning sir I use black wax hemp and Teflon tape
What should I do if I have yellow normal hemp and black waxed hemp. How would I put hemp on my pipes?
Hi Matt,
What do you recommend on for this on delrin pipes? Thanks.
WM.
That’s a great question! It’s hard to imagine why a natural material like hemp or linen would work better than polyester thread on a poly set. I also have a poly set for poor weather, and put polyester thread on on 2 years ago and haven’t adjusted it since...
Hi Matt, thanks for that. Have a set of GHB like yourself for bad weather in delrin and a set of border pipes in delrin also. Always have trouble with waxed hemped joints eventually failing like yours. Will try your suggestion. Regards. WM.
Was there a follow video to this? I was wondering the difference between the hemp and polyester thread. Ill also look for the video if there is one.
