Matt, a couple of refinements to offer once students get the grace notes straight: you want to allow for some separation between the two basic movements (the B to B, C to C grips, and the open Dre, and the D throw and the open Dre). We want to hear that second note after the grip before performing the open Dre, if that makes sense. Also, as a matter of personal taste, there are two ways the variation can be expressed ... on the beat (as you would have done when performing the Crun dbling variation); or, when you have consecutive a-mach notes, you let them flow together, thereby adding to the power of the variation and contrasting with the doubling. The tune at the start is the Crunluath variation of "The Company's Lament" from a 2004 contest I played at in Houston.
