- How to replace the Fuel Return Lines/Caps/O-Rings on a 1988 F350 7.3 IDI Non-Turbo.
Kit was purchased from Russ @ www. RussRepair.com - Auta a dopravní prostředky
These videos are fantastic. I just bought an 84' idi. Sounds like the school bus I grew up riding.
Thanks for these videos. I appreciate your "Ounce of prevention" way of doing things.
Thank you for taking the time to make this video. Saved the day.
Glad it helped!
Thanks for the tutorial. This will help, as I am going to replace mine.
EXCELLENT audio & video presentation ..!!!...I was preparing to take this old oil burner to a mechanic...but ..gonna save a BUNCH OF BUCKS and do this myself ...!!!
Glad to help!
Great video budd.
Leaky injectors get diesel into the oil pan. Got a 94 IDI Turbo 7.3 that is filling the oil pan with diesel. Drain off the diesel from the oil and repeat cause it keeps doing it. Over filling the oil pan. So this kit will be a handy one to have on hand cause you have to remove all that to access the injectors for removal and diagnosis.
I like the Caterpillar yellow
What is the wrench size and torque on the injectors themselves? AND same for the fuel line connections at top of injectors. I so hope this massive leak is what it looks like- about 4 injectors (2 on each side) pissing fuel all of a sudden... replaced the old Orings with #111s ... that’s resolved half of my leak... so I suppose it’s gotta be the ‘return caps’ not sealing against the o rings well enough.
I had no idea about the Lube... that may be my issue...
I noticed the holes on the return caps as I’m calling them (the fittings that slide over the injectors and connect to return lines with red clamps) ... aren’t oriented in the same direction as the injector holes... but it’s never leaked before!!!
So for some reason my truck doesn't have the barb on the return line off of the high pressure fuel pump, so can I just connect 7 to 8 and let any fuel just go back to the filter? Or should I put a barb on the high pressure return line
Can you make some more videos, I have this engine. I need to get more in debt so I can maybe one day get my truck running.
What are you wanting to see?
What are the small plastic rings that look like tall orings that were sitting out when you were assembling new lines? They look like really small return caps with no nipples
Where did you purchase the kit
Great video! But I'm curious what are the fuel olives used for?
The hard line from filter head to IP
Great video question where did you get that radiator? Looks like it's aluminum
Came in the truck, but it looks to be about $250 online
My engine doesn't have something on any of the injectors for timing how exactly do u time it from that
Much thanks for the video, after replacing these, do you need to bleed the system of air or is it not needed?
Leave the #1 and #2 injector lines slightly cracked open, then crank the truck.
Once it either catches and starts, or has fuel out of both cracked Injector Lines, you're done.
Tighten the lines and voila
@@TheFSeries thankyou!
@@TheFSeries one more quick question, in the back where it connects to the return rail, the barb that the fuel line slips on has the old style barb....did you still use the pinch style spring clamp there or did you use a regular hose clamp?
@@justme3853 I used the spring clamps.
The worm/band clamps don't compress all the way around and potentially lead to a leak
@@TheFSeries perfect....last question, I promise, the #1 that has the timing fitting on it, does that slip off after I undo the fuel line but or is that separately unscrewed after. I have completed the drivers side, getting ready to do the other side....again, very much, thankyou. You really helped me with this video.
The factory original fuel hose were braided.
And what is it called
Thank you in advance!
Is this the "early kit" on Russ Repair website?
Yes, the Early NA kit
@@TheFSeries thank you!
What do you do with the copper washers
They're for the Injectors in case you have to remove them.
Very handy to have extras on hand.
I can’t get the clamps on to hold the metal fuel lines together what’s the trick? All my fuel lines touch each other and I put them on right
Maybe try moving them in each direction and then they’ll fit better?
@@TheFSeries I don’t think I got them on 100% correctly but I made sure the lines weren’t touching each other… better than nothing
Does the main fuel line from the filter always go to the first cylinder mine goes across to the first on the other side don’t know if it was done wrong by the guy I bought it from he had a couple of things I’ve had to fix
All the setups I've seen it goes to the #1 cylinder.
Hello, I'm wondering IF ANYBODY can tell me What size the Rubber Return Line is that is going off of the Engine and down to the Tank's? I'm guessing 1/4", 5/16", 3/8"???? I have to go and get a truck and the line is bad right off the Engine and down to the line going back to the tank(s). PLEASE HELP THIS OL' MAN ON THIS. THANKS in advance.
I know the ones from the water fuel separator are 3/8
@@TheDeafMechanic Thanks for Helping me on this. when I went to get the truck, I did take along 3/8" & 5/16" for that "Just in Case" moment and it was indeed 3/8" line and then it went down to 1/4" on the frame rail back to the Fuel Switching Unit for the 2 tank's. Thanks Again for the Help here....👍🏽👌
Well, did it fix the problems. Too many videos that waste a persons time without a Conclusion or Hypothesis. Dog Gone It another one. Or did I miss the statement that all is good now?. (I did like the video though.)
It did; and it didn't.
It DID fix the fuel leaking issue and what I'm assuming was some Air Intrusion at those points
However I had other issues, so it wasn't a magic cure all.
Your mileage may vary; but I highly recommend RussRepair.com for the kit.
0 issues since.
@@TheFSeries Thanks, replaced mine and found it was the fuel lines themselves leaking where the line meets the injectors. Looks like someone put just a bit too much Torq on them and damaged the tips of the lines. Thanks much for the vid. I'm in the process of either buying new lines or undamaged used lines.
